I especially like the section on Assertiveness which teaches assertiveness without fear and the section on Working with Difficult peers in the workplace. Very appropriate and hard hitting.

5-0 out of 5 stars An indispensible and seminal text!!
Kolb's "Experiential Learning" is a masterpiece. In it, he deftly synthesizes the strands of learning theory and psychological research that inform his 4 stage learning cycle. All committed "experiential educators" should consult this book in order more deeply to understand the deep and rich conceptual foundation(s) of our potent pedagogical practice. In his "Foreword" to the volume, Leadership guru Warren Bennis positively hyperventilates in applauding Kolb's achievement in this work. And for good reason! From thence comes Kolb's elegant & powerful "Learning Styles Inventory" (or LSI), among other things. Even if you're a cynic or skeptic re: the merit of experiential education, you would do well to peruse this tour-de-force in order better to appreciate what you may be missing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Please pass the molasses
When one encounters the word " dialectic" while reading academic texts it should be as a clear signal as a fire to forest ranger that trouble is on the horizon. This statement may be a bit of an exaggeration but it woulddefinitely be accurate to say that Kolb's Experiential Learning is no easyread. Of course, this does not diminish the value of the book, in spite ofdifficult passages. Ironically, this is the essence of the concept of"dialectic". Liberal doses of psychology are ladled throughout thebook as the masters (Piaget, Jung, et. al) are consistently consulted toback up theory. Although not professing to have knowledge about psychology,it is clear that their work is essential to establish the interrelationshipbetween cognition and experiential learning. Theory of learning and theopposing learning styles of apprehension and comprehension are explored. This book is clearly the cure for a stubborn case of insomnia. I can't saythat the book is without merit, however, because it held some greatinformation that will be useful now and in future applications when I havethe chance to practice my current endeavors. Some passages even caused asense of anticipation for the succeeding ones because there was aconsiderable amount of interesting information that I had not yet pondered.I would compare this book to putting molasses on pancakes on a winter day.It is thick and doesn't go down easily but great once you warm up to it ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!!
Brussee's Statistics for Six Sigma Made Easy is a wonderful "how to" text for six sigma stat tools that is very readable, and usable, by anyone with at least a high school level background in mathematics. He has done a great job of simplifying much of what a Green Belt would use from the Six Sigma toolkit, and he presents the material in a format highly conducive to application. The result is a valuable statistics manual for the Six Sigma implementer.

I am a Black Belt and program manager at a Fortune 100 company.I use and teach Six Sigma regularly, and I strongly believe in the power of this methodology. However, Six Sigma can be complex, bureaucratic, and confusing. This sometimes makes it difficult to get buy-in from others.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Framework for Leadership in Todays World
During a time of rapid change and so-called leadership gurus, Michael Fullan draws from a wealth of research, case study scenarios, and theory to present an interconnected framework of five capacities for leadership which are relevant in today's world. These five components include moral purpose, understanding change, relationship building, knowledge creation and sharing, and coherence making. When effective leaders possess characteristics of energy-enthusiasm-hopefulness and practice the five components, one can expect the outcome that "more good things happen" and "fewer bad things happen."5-0 out of 5 stars Leading with Clarity
In this book, Fullan integrates theory, research, case studies, and anecdotes to flesh out the dynamics of effective leadership in this post-modern era of complexity, interconnectedness, and rapid (often transformational) technological and social change. He identifies and elaborates on the five components of leadership, which can affect sustainable change: Moral purpose, understanding change, relationship building, knowledge creation and sharing, and coherence making.Fullan sees leadership as a process that all organizational stakeholders, who strive for survival and improvement in a competitive and complex world, need to embrace.Drawing from Heifetz (Leadership Without Easy Answers, 1994), Fullan stakes out new territory for change agents: "Leadership, then, is not mobilizing others to solve problems we already know how to solve, but to help them confront problems that have never yet been successfully addressed." (p.3)5-0 out of 5 stars No recipe, but a new mind-set
In an increasingly complex and fast-changing world, we cannot just rely on charismatic leaders to solve our problems. We need to cultivate leadership at all levels of any organization, business or education, "to face problems for which there are no simple, painless solutions" (p.3). Instead of prescribing recipes of set steps for leaders, Fullan gives a framework or new mind-set of 5 themes or capacities. Figure 1.1 (p.4) gives a clear image of the non-linear interacting components: the inner pie of moral purpose (acting with the intention of making a positive difference), understanding change, relationship building, knowledge creation and sharing, and coherence making. It is surrounded by an outer rim of the personal characteristics of leaders: "energy-enthusiasm-hopefulness". Effective leaders thus mobilize commitment, both external (based on management policies) and internal (getting a job done is intrinsically rewarding). The aim or outcome of leadership is to make sure that "more good things happen" and "fewer bad things happen" defined according to different contexts. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Well written book.
This is a well-written book, which provides a generalist approach to dealing with cross-cultural issues with many excellent examples. The core idea of the book is based on the Hofstede model. One of the central criticisms of this model has been that nation state and culture are always presumed to be the same. Local culture does not follow political boundaries. The authors seem to be unable to avoid this trap. Cultural Intelligence gives good insights on how to notice "Cultural Cruise-Control" and change own way of thinking. Providing some practical tools would have added to the value of this book, but this is a good book for international managers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cultural Intelligence
Author presented interesting views and provide readers clear concept of issues in working with people of cultural diversity.

5-0 out of 5 stars A thorough and very useful guide
This is a detailed survival manual for those who are new to working across cultures. Its aim is to help such people to raise their 'cultural intelligence' - their understanding of cultural diffrences and their impact and their skill with tools to recognize and overcome misunderstanding and failures of communication based on differing cultural expectations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Warwick is a skillful writer
Warwick's writing style is extremely straightforward and clear. It was a pleasure to learn these tips on writing equally straightforward solicitation letters. What differentiates this book from other ones is that it is up-to-date and remains relevant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Non-Profit Should Have This Book
Fundraising is a very specialized area of copywriting and marketing. Unlike the more common direct mail letter wherein you are selling a product or service, fundraising often offers nothing more to the receipient than a chance to feel good about doing good.5-0 out of 5 stars The best book of its kind ...
There are many many books and courses on how to write a funding proposal but few out there on how to write and develop your organization's annual campaign. Fortunately Mal Warwick's is the only book you'll ever need. Thorough, loaded with examples, not only of solicitation letters but follow up and thank you letters as well -- if you're a development professional this is one book you must have on your shelf. Using Mal Warwick's books and website, along with a great deal of marketing reading, I successfully redesigned my organization's membership campaign - raising our overall donations by 33% the first year and an additional 25% the second year.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Consumer Resource
This book does a great job of covering several areas of debt that all consumers will find helpful. It is written in an easy to understand language, yet rich with detail and a variety areas covered. The chapter on debt collections touched on the topic of statute of limitations, which is very important to many consumers, including me.I found that two other books that I read on consumer debt did not deal at all with this important topic.I thank Garrett Sutton (and contributor Gerri Detweiler) for a very valuable book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book with lots of different information.
I read this book to get a little more famaliar with budgets, and was very impressed with how many things this book touched on.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Consumer Credit/Debt Resource!
The ABC's of Getting Out of Debt:Trade Your Bad Debt for Good Debt and Your Bad Credit for Good Credit really stands out among the many credit and debt related books available to consumers for many reasons. For starters, the book covers the topic of credit and debt in a very thorough and objective manner. Such critical, but often overlooked, topics as the health effects of debt are addressed. In addition, the book provides very simple and practical steps to help consumers that are struggling with credit and/or debt problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Packed With Powerful Information About Selling Books Online!
I knew I was going to like this book when after a short treatise on "Why Online Bookselling?" the author immediately launched into the nitty gritting of what every aspiring book seller wants to know: "Where to Find Books,"beginning on page 13, followed by "What Books to Buy." One by one he not only lists his most successful sources for finding valuable books for resale, he goes into depth to explain how to extract the maximum benefit from each source.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Business Idea!!
I recently purchased the book, "The Home-Based Bookstore" by Steve Weber and found it to be an amazing business opportunity idea.I have loved books all my life and have even considered opening a bookstore or comic shop. While this book does not mention anything about opening a comic shop, the model could be applied with ease. This book tells you how to find books to sell, grade them, organize your inventory, and shipping. It also goes into customer service and feedback which is very important. If you have always wanted your own business and be your own boss, then I highly recommend giving this book a try.

5-0 out of 5 stars All serious book sellers need this book!
I have been looking on-line for a good, recently written, book about bookselling and more importantly, selling books on amazon. And I found it!Steve Weber's book has a wealth of information in it for booksellers.I particularly liked the section on where and how to find good books, because I feel exhausted at times, trying to find good books. However, there are many sections that provide a wealth of information in Steve's book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on the Subject (... and I read a lot)
I read a lot of books about MBA admissions.Your MBA Game Plan was the shortest, simplest ... and by far, the best!
2-0 out of 5 stars Too basic, Montauk is much better
This book is simply too short and generic to be of use. As an applicant, I can confidently say that the Montauk book ("How to get into the top MBA Programs") is much more comprehensive and overall better. If you want more specific info on the top programs (i.e. so you can tailor your essays or prepare for interviews), complement Montauk with "ABC of Getting the MBA Admissions Edge". Although at first blush "Your MBA Game Plan" aims to cover both the fundamentals, like Montauk, and the specifics like "ABC", it falls short on both counts. The only good thing about this book (compared to the other two) is that it is small and light, so easy to carry anywhere :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Most valuable read of my MBA
Gareth Morgan's book provides an antidote to the finance, marketing and HR texts that are required reading for an MBA student. My fellow students, colleagues and even my parents had to listen ...5-0 out of 5 stars This book can profoundly change your thinking about orgs

I am a graduate student in organizational development.Although this book has some good underlying concepts, I found most of the book hard to follow and not very engaging. It was often difficult to see how many of the concepts actually apply to organizations. There may be good ideas, but they often get lost in the rambling chapters. ... I passed the PMP test on my first try on September 25th 2006. My preparation material:
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best PMP Prep
Thanks in large part to this book and other Rita Mulcahy products, I passed the PMP certification test yesterday. I purchased the PMP Exam Prep Book, PMP FASTrack, as well as Test Tactics Numbers 1 and 2 (1 is better than 2). They were all very, very helpful, and the best of all the study aids I used. Questions at the end of each chapter in the book are similar to the actual test questions. Of course you will need to read, read, read the PMBOK as well as other material. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking for Help with Assessment
This book is an excellent resource for someone trying to understand how good assessment works. It is very easy to understand, provides lots of examples and doesn't try to confuse the reader by using excessive education jargon.A very good buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners
If your college is just beginning institutional assessment, then this is the book for you. It has several talking points that will allow faculty and the administration to join together in the task. Overall, I enjoyed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very practical, highly usable
This is a great introduction to the assessment process with chapters specifically for departments and general education. The appendices include sample forms and processes for all types of assessment. A great practical resource for anyone responsible for creating an institutional or departmental assessment program. I know at my institution, faculty and administrators have been looking for something like this that can give them a concrete process for doing assessment. If you have only one book on assessment, this should be it.Other books fill in more about the theory and why, but the theory and why are nothing without implementation. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for someone in business or already in business
Found that this book covered all the bases of writting a great business plan.As some one who has taken a couple of business courses, this was one of the best sources of information on writting a business plan.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular book
Wonderfully helpful book. I love this series and can't wait to read them all. While writing my business plan, this book as been by my side, every second, for reference. I don't know what I would have done without it!

4-0 out of 5 stars A must read!
This is a must-read book for anyone thinking about starting or expanding a business. Rather than simply another book about writing a business plan, Sutton makes the case early and often about why such a plan is needed - and it isn't always to raise money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shifting the Focus
These days the trend in education has been to shift the focus of classes from the teachers to the students. The idea is that by taking responsibility for their own education and by learning by doing and working with others, students will be able to learn skills that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. On the other hand, teacher-centered lectures will only cause the students to cram for exams and quickly forget what they learned as soon as the exams are finished. This book offers an easy to read guideline for shifting your class to a learner-centered environment. The author has done a good job in writing a practical text. It's not weighed down with too many discussions of research and theory.Instead, the author presents her ideas through her own experiences and the experiences of other teachers. This makes it very easy to follow her recommendations as they have been tested and tried in a classroom setting rather than in an academic journal.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Overview
This book not only makes the very strong case for a shift from teacher-centered to learner-centered instruction, it provides a road map for how to achieve that shift in both the classroom and the entire academic institution. It is an excellent book for both faculty and administrators in higher education.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very useful and well-researched approach
Expertly written by Maryellen Weimer (Associate Professor of Teaching and Learning, Berks-Lehigh Valley College, Pennsylvania State University), Learner-Centered Teaching: Five Key Changes To Practice is an invaluable resource for college and university educators concerning the learner-centered teaching approach that takes into account what, how, where, and what conditions under which students are learning. Individual chapters convincingly address implementation and fine-tuning adjustments to adopting the learner-centered teaching style, and the appendices include a syllabus, sample learning log, and more. A very useful and well-researched approach, Learner-Centered Teaching is an important and strongly recommended addition to Educational Reference collections and Classroom Instruction reading lists. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars All the legal tips, tricks and traps explained
Plenty of books impart the basics of how to work independently - but too few include all the legal tips, tricks and traps involved. WORKING FOR YOURSELF: LAW & TAXES FOR INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS, FREELANCERS & CONSULTANTS covers everything from setting appropriate fees and understanding how and when taxes are paid to limiting liability and getting paid. Record-keeping processes are simplified with sample logs and entry advice, chapters on how the IRS defines an independent contractor versus a paid employee are essential keys to keeping independent status, and advice on pricing and insurance offer key strategy-oriented tips and approaches. A 'must' for any who would work independently.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great straghtforward information and advice
I recently a started an S corp for my software contracting. The book is helpful and worth the price. It won't answer EVERY question you will have, but you probably should talk to a CPA for those anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Nolo Press Winner
My husband is an independent photographer, so the Nolo Press books are great for him, geared as they are to all those wishing to handle all the paperwork for themselves, instead of the usual array of lawyers, accountants, etc.He keeps it as a reference book and can easily turn to whatever subject he needs more information on.Well-written and easy to understand, as are all Nolo books, these books are wonderful to review periodically. ...
