5-0 out of 5 stars The Whistleblower - Confessions of a Healthcare Hitman
Wow !!!
5-0 out of 5 stars "IN-COMING!!!!"
Peter Rost drops a bomb on the pharmaceutical industry in this fast-paced expose.I wish I had kept as detailed notes and records of my pharma career - my own book would have been a lot better.Dr. Rost doesn't just crack open the door to the drug industry; he kicks the damn thing down like The Terminator. The author, however, doesn't limit his criticism to only the drug companies; he is amazingly candid with his own mistakes, a refreshing and welcome addition that serves to increase his credibility.Readers will appreciate Rost's keen eye, as well as his ability to explain potentially tedious material in an interesting way. It's hard to believe post-Enron that companies can still be dumb enough to ignore the concerns of well-intentioned employees, concerns that have huge moral, legal and financial implications. This book will be eye opening for the uninitiated and sobering for industry veterans. For all, it should be required reading before your next trip to the doctor's office!

5-0 out of 5 stars very helpful
I found this book to be very helpful to give to my son's teachers before each school year.It answers many important questions, and is a great starting point for newer teachers or those who aren't very familiar with autistic spectrum disorders. It's very readable, and since teachers are so busy, they appreciate that it is short and to the point. This book has been helpful to my son's teachers, and therefore has helped my son. I am buying my third copy today to donate to the school.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy one for all your favorite teachers
This book is wonderfully practical with easy to implement ideas. It never gets bogged down in medical terms or psychology. A must buy gift for your child's teacher and school.

5-0 out of 5 stars A cogent survival guide for the evolution of business
In a competitive, capitalist economy, nothing is more prized than the whiz-bang invention, the why-didn't-I-think-of-that product or service that defines a market, delights consumers and gushes profits. Yet for all the ink spilled over innovation, remarkably few businesspeople understand exactly how to mint revolutionary new products. Innovation expert Geoffrey A. Moore delves under the hood of the new economy to create this roadmap to creative thinking. Although the text at times bogs down in jargon and a dizzying degree of detail, he cites plenty of sharp real-world examples, including an inside view of Cisco Systems. We recommend this user's manual to innovation to anyone who thinks that survival is not an end goal, but just a place to get started.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for technology companies
I have been an avid consumer of Geoffrey's books for many years and Dealing with Darwin provides a framework to organize an enterprise portfolio planning process. It takes the concepts in the "Discpline of Market Leaders" to a whole new level that can be used in planning and strategy execution. We use Geoff's ideas in many ways in the Stanford University Advanced Project Managment program. He is a gifted writer and thinker!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded My Expectations
This book provides a very useful model for evaluating a portfolio, identifying what's core and recommending strategies for how to balance resources between core and non-core projects and activities.Once you have identified your core projects and activities, the book also provides a framework for determining the best innovation strategy for maximum differentiation. These are extremely useful concepts and frameworks, especially for more established businesses that have diverse portfolios, are facing increased competitive headwinds and are looking for ways to compete more effectively. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great companies must give great service
I read this book for a graduate marketing class, but it is a good read for any business professional out there. Why do companies succeed in the long-term? They find a way to put the customer first, time after time. And not just customers, but employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I work in a school and this book has already helped me plan several fun activities for teachers, directors, and students. I highly recommend it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Well written and has good variety.
While many of the activities might suit a business, I was able to find quite a few for small groups in our church. The instructions are thorough and handouts are well done. My only suggestion for the publisher would be to make the book so the pages could be torn out and put in a three ring binder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Residence Life staff
There are few books on icebreakers/teambuilders that I've found to be useful with college students ( I work in Student Affairs). This book, however, offered many activities that were useful not only for just'breaking the ice' but also for applying them to the many educationalworkshops we do in this field. There was also a very helpful section called"Icebreakers for the Non-Icebreaker types" that was bothinteresting and practical. Because I work with such a diverse range ofstudents, I struggle to find icebreakers that are not geared solely to theextroverted-types. This collection gives a number of activities that arebeneficial to teambuilding while respecting the differentlearning/interaction styles we see in our students. Out of the 201 offeredin the book, I have found at least 180 of them that I will use as integralparts of the next staff training. This book also offers activities forgroups ranging from 8 participants (good for small staffs) to 400participants (good for all-hall activities)! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible
I work in finance as a software developer. I had done some work with risk management and had read Jorion's book and Butler's. When Ihad to do my own VaR implementation, a colleague recommended Holton's book. It is amazing. The level of domain expertise is above anything else out there. It is sophisticated and well written. I thought I knew about VaR before reading Holton, but I didn't really. Now I know about VaR.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not helpful
This book looks good only at first sight. However, try and solve the exercises and you see there is more to VaR than the author wants us to believe. This book is too incoherent to be of any use. Just take a look at the index: A lot of things are introduced but are never used again later in the book. This makes me wonder why they were introduced at all. Some examples from the index: Hessian, GARCH, Markov process, etc.
2-0 out of 5 stars A good book on VaR
A good book on VaR, but finally lost its charming. Incomplete and solved cases in a pathetic manner. Theory: 80%, Practice: 10%, pathetic exercises 10%. This book doesn?treflect its complete main purpose: theory and practice.I would choose mastering Value at Riskby Cormac Butler and Value At Risk by Jorion. My rate is 2 stars. Do it again. Don?t forget solved cases in spreadsheets. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on teams
This is the best book on teams! If I could have given it more stars I would. A definite MUST read. This will be your reference bible on teams from now onward.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, Practical
Teams are everywhere-in all kinds of organizations. Some work beautifully to produce wonderful successes; others are miserable failures. Why? The authors conducted research with over 6,000 team members and discovered five factors that determine a team's success: collaboration, relationships, group processes, leadership, and the organizational environment. This book is a report of what they learned, loaded with plenty of advice for increasing team effectiveness. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Creative Curriculium
We use this book for Head Start Program.. A very good reference book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Book Explains Details On Renowned Program
Dodge, Colker, and Heroman present this updated version of the well-known program that focuses all aspects of the early childhood classroom around the environment, what the child learns, the family, the teacher's role, and developmental theory in its famed interlocking pentagon.
5-0 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive book about best ECE practice!
Although I already had the Creative Curriculum 3rd edition, I was compelled to buy this newer version, the 4th edition, when I heard there was new information. I was not disappointed. The Creative Curriculum is a guide for early childhood classrooms which addresses the environment and learning centers, as well as the role of the teacher. It is compatible with other known practices in early childhood, including the project approach, Reggio Emilia, and emergent curriculum. The book describes the setup and rationale for learning centers from Blocks to Library to outdoors. There are letters and information for parents, assessment and documentation sections. I can't say enough good things about this book!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sales
I have the audio cassette version, and i must admit this is one of Zigs best audio programs. The first part of the tape or cd talks about Self Image, then it goes on the Prospecting, and then other areas of sales. Dont waste your money on any of Ziglars other tapes, if you want an audio program which will benefit all areas of your life, this is the one. We are all in sales, you sell yourself in an interview when trying to land that job you want, you sell yourself to that guy or girl that you want to ask out on a date. We are all in sales. Just a little note, these audio programs where done quiet a few years ago, and now they have been put onto Cd's, if only it were made available on cd in the first place, because i ended up buying the cd version and giving the cassette version to my friend. Another way to generate sales. I hope you enjoy this program, its the only one you need to succeed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ways to Profit from the Seeming Contradictions in Chinese Society
Confucius, Daoism, Communism, Industrialization, Urbanization, One-Child Families, Great Leap Forward, Education and Profit Is Good:What do these themes mean for those who wish to sell in China? They are all important influences which you need to understand. Each Chinese consumer is uniquely influenced by the combination. The result includes some pretty interesting apparent contradictions such as prudishness about sex in advertising in a country where sexual trade is wide open at the street level.
4-0 out of 5 stars Hire this guy for your ad campaign!
Love this book.Focus group, quantitative analysis, qualitative research, or any else you learned in the Marketing Research course at the MBA curriculum, may not work in China. WIth 1.3 billion customers, this is the dream market for any multinational corporations: Unilever, Ford, Nokia, Motorola, Sony, Samsung, Protor Gamble, DeBeers(DTC), VW, Shell, Pepsi, Coke, Nestle, Avon, Nike, Siemens, IBM, Dell.... While they are compeitng, the locals are copying quickly: Haier, TCL, Konda, China Mobile, China Unicom, Lenovo, CNOOC, Yili Diary, Sedrin beer, 999 Pharmaceutical..... hundreds of them doing shampoo, shoes, ....every thing under the sun.How can you win? That is the beauty of this book. It got many strategies laid out in the step-by-step fashion. It is a must read for any one who is doing business in China. The book will be better if more comparison can made on the effectiveness of the ad such as Motoroal vs a Chinese brand.

5-0 out of 5 stars For companies who would enter the Chinese market
BILLIONS: SELLING TO THE NEW CHINESE CONSUMER comes from a CEO with direct experience selling into the Chinese market, and discusses the code of marketing as it relates to modern China. Many companies come to China with ideas on how to apply Western thinking to their very different marketplace: thus BILLIONS' tips are a necessary set of instructions for any who would break into the Chinese marketplace. From cultural influences in buying patterns to investment challenges and multinational lessons on winning and losing in China, BILLIONS is a recommended pick for any company who would consider entering this new, large market.

1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading
Some parts of this book are quite good. The general problem solving strategies laid out in chapters 1 through 4 are effective and simple. However, the authors appear to display a lack of understanding of statistical inference and its limitations which can easily result in mistaken decisions by the unwary. There is a significant difference between the concept of P as the probability of getting particular data given that the null hypothesis is true, and the concept of the probability that the null hypothesis is true given that you have got the data, which these authors confuse. I bought this book and wish I hadn't wasted my money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful book
Used this book in a 400 level business statistics class, great book overall. Is quite a bit different from most statistics books that I have encountered, however I think that difference is what makes it so effective, this book has been a big eye-opener in viewing everything as a process. The book focuses on principals and the different tools that are available rather than focusing on drilling students with problems.I figure the authors understand that these days computers and statistics software is widely available, so the mathematics behind the techniques is only lightly touched upon.Book finishes up with some theory and a few useful appendixes that go more indepth into certain topics (such as surveying, probability distributions and process reengineering). This is also the book that introduced me to the wonders and excitement of experimental design, which it does a nice job introducing you and preparing you for more advanced texts such as Montgomery's Design of Experiments text.

5-0 out of 5 stars teaching business statistics through ideas and strategy
Roger Hoerl is a famous industrial statistician who is currently the head of corporate research and development in statistics at a well known company where he took over recently when Gerry Hahn retired. In addition to his contributions to ridge regression Hoerl has written a number of fine statistical texts and has been very influential in emphasizing the growing need and demand for statistical methods in industry (work that may be done by non-statisticians). With the widespread availability of statistical software, the layperson is gaining the ability to do fairly sophisticated statistical analyses. For these people to be successful it is important that they understand the fundamentals and not just how to turn the crank on a particular procedure. Users of statistical methods must understand the concepts of variability and randomness and be able to know when statistical methodology can be helpful and when it cannot. This also means being able to question the underlying assumptions in a statistical model.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking for Cost Reduction, Increased Productivity, and Loyal Costumers - This is the practical implementation guide
Six sigma is a quality system that has helped world class companies save millions and gain costumer. It was brought into fame by the legendary Jack Welch during his years at General Electric.
4-0 out of 5 stars Classroom training for Six Sigma costs what!
I began my journey to learn about Six Sigma around a year ago. At that time I investigated classroom training on Six Sigma. The cost for Six Sigma training was far too expensive for my management team to seriously consider. My most viable option was to train myself. I bought seven, yes seven, books on the topic of Six Sigma. This book was the best of the seven resources I purchased. This book is an inexpensive resource for training. I would also recommend an introduction to Six Sigma to supplement this book. My recommendation would be, "What is Six Sigma?" (another book by Pande). I have several years of quality experience so not every newcomer can just read a book. For most business process improvement efforts this book can give you the education to be dangerous against company waste and inefficiencies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent way to start your green belts!
This book is a great intro book for new green belts.I am using this in our corporate office for training.
