2-0 out of 5 stars Good read, but too rudimentary
One thing is for sure - if you really intend to start your own retail business, Retail Business Kit for Dummies will not take you far. It is very rudimentary, to say the least. My real disappointment is because of the CD that came with the book, supposedly full of useful forms, reports etc. They looked as if they were written with a typewriter.Anyway, regardless of your profile, I do not think that this book will help you open or run a successful retail business, nor significantly compliment your existing knowledge.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for the beginner
I could hardly put this book down after receiving it.I especially liked the section on writing a business plan.Lots of detail in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for basics, too general for experienced marketers
I should preface this review by saying that I am probably not the typical reader the author had in mind when writing this book.As a marketing consultant, I was recently was engaged to develop retail feasibility study and project plan for an Internet retailer planning their first bricks and mortar store.Although I have retail marketing experience, I bought this book to make sure that I had all bases covered and to get some fresh ideas on visual merchandising, retail POS systems and operations for small retailers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good ideas, examples and results.
I bought this book being a newbie to bloging. Results after I've read it? I would call my self a bloging enthusiast now.
3-0 out of 5 stars A bit too much in the typical management book mode
Blogging is all the rage these days and authors Scoble and Israel proclaim that "blogs are changing the way businesses talk with customers." The claim is vastly overblown in the sense that most businesses do not and will not talk "with" their customers, but rather talk "to" them.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Insider's View
Fascinating book.Scoble practically invented blogging, and both authors are totally immersed in it. They know the bloggers, the technology, the history, and the culture. They don't know the future, but they make some pretty good predictions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great read
I loved this book. Fun & entertaining while providing meaningful, salient and actionable suggestions in (re)focusing one's activities and priorities in business development and management. I'm a recovering business executive just starting my own entrepreneurial business and this work has been enormously helpful. I can't recommend this enough. Get this book.
3-0 out of 5 stars This orange looked good but was flavorless inside
I was thrilled to get this book and was looking forward to getting real step by step insights on how to create better advertising or move audiences. Instead what I got was a cursory overview of watered down ideas and then an agency review of their big name campaigns. The good ideas in this book would have made a good magazine article.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well written!
The problem with most books dealing with Economics is that they are poorly presented and not enjoyable to read, being stuffed with incomprehensible graphs and technical jargon. This book avoids those pitfalls and is both entertaining and informative. Alfred Marshall would be proud.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cogent rundown on why the economy matters to you personally
In this brief, cogent book, author Tim Harford provides an accessible, entertaining introduction to economic thinking. This deftly written report belongs on the shelf of anyone with an interest in economic matters - and as the author makes clear, everyone has an interest in economic matters. He deftly punctures the balloons of those who advocate fair trade coffee, protectionism, government-underwritten medical care and other such policies. These tactics may seem humane on the surface, but he contends that they often merely advance the selfish goals of the few at the expense of the many. If the book has a weakness, it is Harford's tendency to take certain points of political opinion for granted and to state them as moral choices without qualification or proof. For instance, he puts forth the admirable - though some would say questionable - notion that governments are obliged to cushion the shock of unemployment. That, however, is a quibble. We highly recommend this concise, comprehensive book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating discovery of the interconnectiveness of everything
It is entirely possibly if I had had access to book like this when I was growing up, I would have become an economist. Harford takes apart many of the conundrums in our modern world and shows how trends, political and corporate decisions have all shaped the world in which we live in.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
The Chapters are really good and easily understandable. Point to be highlighted here is that the author has explained examples with SAP GUI Screen Shots. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great SD book for experienced consultants, too
I've been an SD functional consultant since 1993 and have recently started working on a very small project as the only SD consultant. Even though I've configured most aspects of SD, I haven't done it all, nor have I done it alone. Since I'm an independent consultant, this book has helped me to get a grasp of all that I need to do and what questions I need to pose to the client. This is the best SD book that I've seen - a definite keeper in my library.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my first book on selling, one of the classics
When I started as a sales engineer, out of university at 27 yo (ok, so I was kind of slow) and lured into a company by my boss who saw a great potential in selling for me, eventhough I told him i never sold even a needle in my life, I bought this book a year later in a fleamarket, the cover was worn down, the edition older than me.. its true what they say, you cannot judge a book by its cover..

5-0 out of 5 stars I am a believer
Alright...alright. Admittedly I tried to find flaws in this book because 5 stars from every reader is just unheard of. Well, I see why now. This is a great book. I like Joe Girard's book on selling but this book is better because it's not very manipulitive. It's not really deceiving like a car salesman tactics. It's borderline teaching you proper manners. It's funny, I have read many sales books recently and all of the author's write about these same principles. This book is great to read over and over again to get inspired. If you are in to any type of sales, even MLM this book should be studied. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Complete but completely dull
Half the time reading this book is like reading a dictionary. I think I must have read 100 sentences that begin with "XXX can be defined as .... ". The authors do a complete coverage of the topics but in such a dull and routine way it is hard to keep your attention on the reading. On a plus side, there are about 40 case analyses that are pretty good, but of course they weren't written by the authors. Of course if you're like most people, your professor has chosen this book and you have to get it whether you like it or not. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
If the title of the book suggests you something you are looking for, don't hesitate and buy it. It is excellent. It displays a completely actionable model of the selling -or buying- cycle. It describes the phases of the cycle and it gives the strategic principles to follow in each one of them. Mr. Rackham is a true expert in this field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Top 5 all time best sales books
This book is in my top 5 all time best written sales books ever. Neils approach is unique, it stands the test of time. He talks about the buyers cycle as it relates to the sellers process. They need to be in alignment...if not, you will not get the sale. This book is a must read for anyone selling. A good compliment to SPIN and really any value based selling methodology including ROI Selling.

2-0 out of 5 stars An okay book but not worth the current second hand prices!
DBI gives a pleasant overlook of the branding process illustrated with various examples. It is however not a guidline to creating/building/maintaining a brand, so in this the title is misleading.

5-0 out of 5 stars The P&G Approach to Value Generalized
Delivering Profitable Value is an excellent look at ways to identify opportunities for making your products and services more valuable to customers.Unlike most books related to value which have little structureor focus to them, this one understands the importance of the ecosystem youuse and in which your customer exists for delivering and using yourofferings. One thing I liked was the series of steps the author proposesfor comparing offerings available to customers.5-0 out of 5 stars DELIVERS A WEALTH OF PROFITABLE VALUE!
The author, originator of the "value proposition" concept, presents a new approach to strategy and performance. This system links the organization's capabilities and goal with the real needs of its customers. It replaces the conventional view of developing, producing and marketingproduct with choosing a complete value proposition, providing eachexperience in the chosen proposition, and communicating these experiences.4-0 out of 5 stars This is a superb guide to defining a company strategy
The DPV process, and the text itself, are excellent tools. They guide a company away from excessive internal or customer compelled thinking. 5-0 out of 5 stars From the basic to the inspired
Never been on eBay before but looking for a place to sell some treasures that you found at the second-hand shop?Put up a couple of auctions and wondering why they never sold?Trying to figure out how to maximize your profit in such a variable environment?Look no further!Russell's book covers everything from setting up a seller's account (and the different types thereof) to writing a business plan, marketing strategies, and success stories. The main point of the book is that, like any business, running an online eBay business required professionalism in all areas. What separates the eBay hobbyist from the profitable business owner is the willingness to plan ahead, account for income and expenses responsibly and legally, and to sell yourself at every opportunity. This book will show you how. After the first chapter (an introduction to eBay's mission and history), the book moves through the information you'll need to know through the process, and each chapter ends with a checklist of steps to complete before you move on to the next chapter. The book is clearly and entertainingly written, with lots of fun anecdotes showing you other eBay sellers and how they learned the hard way (so you don't have to).Although you may not be able to find exactly what you're looking for using just the chapter titles or section headings, I really would recommend that you read the entire book and complete the worksheets before moving on, anyway.I've recommended this book to a number of my personal friends and clients, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking to increase profits and reduce hassles. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Though not groundbreaking, a comprehensive and current reference on marketing your site through Google
Harold Davis has not necessarily broken new ground with his "Google Advertising Tools" book. Yet, he's managed to put together a volume that summarizes effectively the basics of SEO and how to structure your site to maximize return on investment as a lead into Google Advertising at large. Starting with Google AdSense (placing Google Ads in your site), he works his way into AdWords (buying pay-per-click keyword-based ads) to wrap the book up with a detail discussion about the APIs offered by Google if developing tools to maximize your overall use of Google's interface and options is up your alley.

3-0 out of 5 stars Half the Battelle's book zips! Then journalism settles in
"The Search" by John Battelle is a casual and mostly entertaining walk through the last 10 or so years of digital search, mostly but not entirely centered around the phenomenon of Google.
