4-0 out of 5 stars Not Too Bad
I have a basic statistics background before I read this book. For me, the book is useful for my basic quantitative research. Last few chapters apply the statistics rules in earlier chapters to the real business environment, which I think it's really practical and interesting. The most I like in this book is the practice questions at the end of each chapter, which apply to everyone's daily life. However, first four chapters cover too many unnecessary topics.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book requires outside help!
This book tends to jump off topic (most aren't explained well). For example, they talk about one thing but the exercises are a bit different than the chapter's topic. Most of the information isn't fully explained. If you are in a class where the instructor assigns the exercise questions for homework, you are screwed. You may not know what to do unless you seek outside help (study guide, tutor etc.) or read beyond the chapter.

2-0 out of 5 stars A very interesting book... for those who understand statistics
The book has a lot of examples and is a must have for those majoring in Finance. Some Universities use this for Intro to Statistics and this book is very didactic. The way it's written out in a form that takes you a another level of reading which makes you feel you're in a rainbow... a reading rainbow... Anway... The book has answers in the back so it's good enough for whenever the professor assigns Homework. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Marketing Reference
This book is part of Executive MBA courses, I have to admit that, this book covers different areas and considered as one of the important Marketing references.
1-0 out of 5 stars Rip off, no new material since edition 2
Kotler tries to sell college students new books every year, hence the 12th edition he is now marketing. There is no new information, and the information contained is no different from any $12 marketing book.Students, buy an old edition and save, teachers stop using books like this, more and better information is available for free over the net anyway. Just because they are expensive and shiny doesn't mean they are worthwhile.BTW this is also available in an international edition with the exact same content for 1/4 of the cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marketing Bible
This book by Marketing Guru Philip Kotler is a Bible you must read before starting your career in Marketing. 'Marketing Management' mainly focuses on strategic decisions of a marketer, such as positioning, segmentation, startegies at different stages of product life cycle, brand building strategies, etc. It is better to finish 'Principles of Marketing' first to understand the strategies in marketing management.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nuts and Bolts of Lean, Six Sigma and more
This book is a ready reference for the practitioner and well deserves its description as a toolbook. It includes top level tips and tools for idea generation, process mapping and data collection. Also provided are more advanced and specialized tools for statistical process control and six sigma, lean tools for reducing lead time and non-value added costs, and the less well known tools for managing operational and portfolio complexity.
3-0 out of 5 stars For reference only
There are good tools, but there is no good detail about them so I could thing as tool box

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Lean Six Sigma Pocket Book
This book was a GREAT reference book for understanding Lean Six Sigma tools on Transactional / Service projects. I just completed my Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training through my company. I was one of three individuals (total of 35) within the class that was focused on transactional / service projects. This being the case, the training was geared more towards manufacturing floor Lean Six Sigma tools. Trying to convert these tools from manufacturing to office was VERY difficult. This is were the book came in handy. Not only was a able to make the transaction, but I was able to use these tools to successfully complete my first Black Belt project in the transaction world.

2-0 out of 5 stars Simplistic but True
This book is simplistic in its approach, but it illustrates very well our society's tendency to overcomplicate processes to the point the original objective becomes almost unattainable.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good basic book - best when re-read
The book is a short novel that contrasts the batch and queue production system with the lean one, by means of the "socratic" discussion that the main two characters have working a week-end in the Joe's garage. By the way, the Joe in the title is the batch and queue old fashioned foreman, not one of the main characters.
2-0 out of 5 stars BASIC....
This book is a situational review of a back yard application of manufacturting. If you know NOTHING about manufacturing, this book is a great intro. If you are looking for a more detailed introduction to Scheduling, Work Centers, Routing, Materials Management, Bills of Material, Inventory, and Demand Planning, this book is a complete waste of your time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Identifying talent
This ia a worthwile read about people management. The author's take a non-traditional approach to people management and their points are usually sensible and logical. The fundamental point of this book is to identify the talent within the employee and how to harness that talent for the good of both the company & employee.

5-0 out of 5 stars If You're a Manager ... You Need To Read This

5-0 out of 5 stars Good OB text.
I Used this book for the Organizational Theory and Behavior class at Columbia Southern University. Easy to read through, and more valuable information in this book than in my last 6 management texts put together. I haven't read any other OB texts though, so I don't know how this one compares with others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Overall great book covering all the concepts.....
This book is a very easy read.Used it for a CTUonline.edu master's class on organizational behavior.I think almost all organizational behavior-related books cover mostly the same topics.I mean you either know your people or you don't.It's applied psychology. What made this book somewhat unique is that it often cited real life case studies of companies. It also offered various arguments and counterarguments of the different topics that the book covered, such as "does flextime lead to increased productivity?" and "can you teach leadership?"

2-0 out of 5 stars Good content, but unprofessional publishing
I can disagree about the ease of understanding and the knowledge of Stephen Robbins, but Prentice Hall, the publisher of this book, has blown it. This book is filled with typos and misspellings.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth your time.
Basically I had to purchase this for a class. The book is full of acronyms and buzz words with no application. The end of chapter review is great if you just wanted to add new words to your vocabulary and be able to repeat their definitions with little understanding. This is a classic example of a text book gone wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for its purpose
If you need a management information systems book, this is the book you should be looking for!Its not useful for much else, however, maybe kindling...

1-0 out of 5 stars deluxe RIP OFF
I 'was forced' to buy this book for an MIS course. We all know how textbooks are scams anyway, but this one takes the cake. My college even had the balls to 'bundle' this with an MS Access book so we were stuck with a $170 bundle. All the info I needed to take the course was available on the website webct. If you can find a way to access that site, you don't even need this outrageously expensive book.I got an A in the course and never cracked the book.I just used the info on the website. You should try that route if you can, and forgo purchasing this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Aid to Help You in Finding Your Ideal Career
In my humble opinion, Dan Miller has written a valuable tool to help you better understand yourself and transition into a better career. Some reviewers see the book as just another "cut and paste" title.Yes, there is some of that in the book, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded of things we have previously heard but forgot. Also, there is some new interesting information included in the book, particulary the ample number of websites you can access to help you along in your transition.

4-0 out of 5 stars To the point
Much of it you already know but sometimes you need some reminding. This book is easy to read, to the point and not inflated with boring repetition like others of it's kind.

3-0 out of 5 stars Only Decent, Entire Information contained in last 3 Pages!
I was very excited from the creative title, but was overall disappointed with the end result. His advice is valid, but it is stretched out very thin in order to get enough pages for a book. In general he says write your goals down, start immediately, and to do the most important task first. I doubt his readers in particular really need to pay $14 to be reminded of this. Either way, if you want the advice he condenses it to a list of all 21 steps in the last 3 pages! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More of a reference book.
This book does not have a lot of depth to it - and it is somewhat dated (each year a bit more), but there are some handy examples that make it a worthwhile read... especially for the price.

3-0 out of 5 stars An O-K text, with a few gems.
For your basic introductory business class, this book is good.It offers a lot of vocabulary, and I can see why a lot of people would say the book has no depth since most of the information can be drawn from simply living the real world. (Unless of course you life in a refrigerator.)So why bother grabbing the text if I can get the same exact knowledge from life?

A particularly easy, menorable read -- I still refer to it in my engineering discussions in the business place.A must read whose applicability goes beyond manufacturing engineering.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic!!!
I was required to read this book as apart of my MBA program.Boy am I glad I was!!!This is an excellent book that uses the favorable fable approach to get points across. There are excellent principles that are presented in a way that seems more like reading a NY times best seller.Very easy read!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Still effective after all these years.
Even though the first edition of this book was 1984, the message is still applicable. The Goal of the business is to make money, and Goldratt tells us how in a very entertaining read.Subsequent books by several authors still mimic his theme of continual process improvement through the reduction of bottlenecks which uncovers still more areas for improvement. This is one book I always buy for new managers when they start their corporate journey.I bought this one for a new CEO friend of mine.He thought it was great! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Professional Coaching
Our company recently hosted a presentation from David Peterson, one of the authors of Leader as Coach. His audience was a small group of HR managers and Training consultants. He provided us with a no nonsense, credible approach to coaching managers and leaders. The title of his presentation was quite true to that title, providing us with a clear vision of the state of the art and insights into the state of the practice.5-0 out of 5 stars This book has been my guide for my active research project.
This book has been both inspirational and motivational for me.I love the quotes and have used them when sending memos to people involved in my Masters active research project. The few colorful pictures are beautifuland representative of reaching high for the stars. The texture of the paperused is similar to a magazine's. I almost felt I was reading one, whichfelt more like leisure reading. The book is short, easy to read, and to thepoint. I've taken much of the advise while I've engaged as a leader in myproject.I've made efforts to become a better listener, give positivefeedback, inspire people to take risks, and built a bond of trust. Ilearned that I have to model the good habits I'd like others to practice. The strategies suggested are a must for people in the business world andadminstrators or leaders in education. The book is practical for anyonewho assumes a leadership role and does not know how to begin the process.Thumbs up! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Works
Been studying this book with my Network Marketing team. Was so good I had to read ahead! In my current job I've been applying this and the results have been absolutely noticable even by my boss!
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent tool for leadership development
As a university student, I initially purchased this book to review for an assignment in a Leadership Theory course, but the value I received from this text was greater than expected. Maxwell's reputation as a leadership expert is one of the reasons I chose this book, but another reason was that this book focuses not only on the concepts of leadership in general but mainly on personal leadership development. Overall, I enjoyed this book, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the study of leadership or developing their own leadership abilities. I found John C. Maxwell's work to be very inspirational and very applicable to real-world applications. After having contemplated what leadership truly means and how it affects us on a daily basis, it is easier to see that its impact is all around us in some form or to some degree. As Maxwell puts it, "everything rises and falls on leadership," and anyone with the desire to do so can become a better leader. This book explains how to do it effectively.

I have studied the subject of leadership for several years and continue to return to this book as the best short-read on the subject ever written. I read it at least once a year just to refresh myself. The stories are well chosen and the principals are sound. It is not an in-depth treatise but provides an excellent foundation for understanding the difference between leadership and management - which is greatly lacking today. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Should be from bad to worse
Despite trying very hard to deny that this is just another fad management book - there is nothing new in this title.Clueless managers will recite the core principals of this book and treat them as gospel as they try to improve their bottom line.It is also worth noting that at least one of the "great" organizations in the book, Fannie May, has imploded in an accounting scandal. Not the worst fad management book ever written, but that isn't saying much.

4-0 out of 5 stars A huge business hit of the early 90s that has aged pretty well
This is one of the business classics in the past twenty years. It has sold a huge number of copies and I am sure many of those purchased copies were actually read!As impressive as its sales numbers have been, the way it has affected the approach to the way business was discussed and talked about for the past dozen years has been even more impressive.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good 'nuff
Used this book for a class. It is well organized and has plenty of thought-provoking exercizes. It presented ethics and morals as fluctuating things, based on the times and location - I don't agree with that stand. However, the book was good. The online material is awsome - good chapter notes, practice tests, and glossary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth It!
Outlines the things that waste time and the things that make money. Always a good motivator.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most complete sales books of all time.
The "Sales Bible" is a masterpiece. This is one of the most complete books on sales that I have ever read. When I became a sales leader four years ago this was the first sales book our team read together. The practical sales tips and techniques Jeffrey Gitomer discloses in this book are priceless.I have a sales rep that tells everyone that will listen that "The Sales Bible" is the reason he tripled his income in less than three years!David Otis Author of "Walk Fast, Talk Loud and Smile.

4-0 out of 5 stars covers important techniques, buta bit unorganized and long
A very long book of over 300 pages.Very useful information in this book, but I found it to be too wordy and long, too much nonsense. It's hard to go back and find the usefull information. He tries to be too entertaining and all I want is the facts/techniques. Ironic, he advises to not sound like a salesman and to listen more then you speak, but then he goes and does just that. ... Read more
