1-0 out of 5 stars Errors Galore
After purchasing the instructor's manual to check my answers, I found errors in every chapter!!From spelling to incorrect percentage amounts.I found myself editing the entire time to find their errors which contradict their text. When I got answers that were not an option in the multiple choice exercises, I would reference the book and the textbook would say I was correct, and the workbook did not.Not worth the money or the time.Extremely exhausting.

1-0 out of 5 stars find something better to learn from
I took a night course which used this textbook. The instructor who is a certified coder and is an instructor at other institutions found MANY misleading instructions. You can be told to do something one way in the book but in real life at a billing job, you would have to do it another way. Also, we found many contradicting statements. They say one thing but do something totally different in their examples. It's really not worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quickly settles disputes, answers questions, a "MUST" for all home care nurses & their management teams !!!!
I have the 4th edition (at this time is the most recent edition in print) and as a psych home care nurse, this little, portable wealth of knowledge has helped me validate to management, as well as to public health and other surveyors, the range in situations that qualify "homebound status" for psychiatric patients.Throughout the book there are samples provided to support a variety of situations that help the nurse better understand, and therefore more accurately report, on each sector of the OASIS forms.Medicare regulations are explained in detail, and I learned information that I had not known in the 14 years I have been doing mental health home care nursing. The manual provides a history and background of homecare, its evolution, provides an overview of documentaion, including the importance of coding, and its significance in home care. Also, valuable tips on improving the nursing visit, setting achievable goals, managing the case, and the guidelines for care for all the home care disciplines, are provided, so the nurse can be knowledgable regarding the roles of the other disciplines. There is a great resource section at the end of the book, and home care definitions, roles, and abbreviations are delineated in this manual as well. All home care codes are listed.

4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good book for what it is...
As with all economics textbooks and the subject of economics in general, this book is a bit dry. That said however, it's quite thorough in its coverage of how consumers, producers, and insurers make decisions about health and health care.It gives explanations that are rather simple to understand and goes in depth as far as would be considered normal for a 300 level elective course.I should probably note that my instructor is one of the book's authors, so take my review how you will. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Financial Management of Healthcare Organizations
This text proved an invaluable guide to the subject of hospital finances. This was a subject I was not particularly interested in, and the book surprised me. It is readable and clear. The logic flows smoothly. There are plenty of examples, illustrating assorted principles. After reading several books on the topic of hospital finances, this one stands out for its clarity. ... I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book

In regard to "Exam Cram, Life and Health" I would recommend this book to my adult children if they want to pass the California exam.In addition to being a great test preparation book, I was able to get my computer to read the book to me, by using Adobe and Microsoft text-to-speech programming, which is free to the general public. This book was much better than the text provided by the school. It even includes information needed to open my own business.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not so hot for those with chronic illness
I found the book mostly informative and was excited to get the chapter for those with chronic illness, until I read the first paragraph... in which the author basically says have a job with some big corporation is his best advice for health insurance with a chronic illness. I am a Type 1 diabetic, young and healthy other than that. As a nonprofit director and consultant I thought I would get some helpful advice... However, the constant jabs at those with chronic illness and unhealthy lifestyles being the cause of such high healthcare were a little unbearable. The author used the words drug addicted, unhealthy, and chronic illnesses such as diabetes in conjunction with each other constantly. As someone who is is diabetic by no "fault" of my own... Diagnosed at age 4, not because I was overweight or ate the wrong foods, I found this lumping together insensitive and offensive. This book is a great resource if you are healthy, well-educated, and have a lot of time to do your own research... It's good to get educated about how best to use the system as is, but does little to look at or address the inequities and injustice of our current healthcare system in the U.S. It's a mess that deserves our creative attention! In the meantime, I'll keep paying over $580 a month for my health insurance plan without much hope of relief for something more affordable...

5-0 out of 5 stars The must have health insurance guide
This book fills in all the wholes in the health insurance market that allows you to make informative decission on the direction for your health insurance needs for the family and being self employed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Practical Advice
The author tries to resolve many common problems revolving around the high costs of health insurance. His ideas are practical and, in fact, they will work for the majority of people who are trying to lower health insurance costs.Unfortunately, there will always be those who are uninsurable in the individual and family market and who cannot afford risk pool coverage, and this is not a problem that can be solved immediately. However, the author is urging people to obtain individual coverage at a young age when they can qualify, and while it is still affordable. If most people did this, and if people did not depend soley on employer sponsored plans in their younger years, the author asserts that it would not be as difficult to have and keep good coverage in the older years. That is the concept behind this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars insurance handbook for the medical office
I was very disappointed in the 9th revision. Although the HIPAA compliance and e-commerce sections have been updated, the material in the workbook is exactly the same. That includes all the same editing errors from the last edition. I spend hours of my time "re-writing" these editions when they should be correct at publication. The same ICD-9 and CPT errors are still there. I am seriously thinking of changing books for my school. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars VERY BASIC.... VERY DISAPPOINTED!
As a government employee, I bought this book hoping it would provide some good tips on the federal retirement system. This book may help the new or very unimformed employee, but that's it.Some of the information on government benefits was just plain wrong, which is why it only gets two stars from me.As an example, it states a FERS employee can contribute a maximum of 10% to the Thrift Savings Plan each year.Wrong! An employee has been able to contribute 15% for years and I believe there is no limit in 2006.This is not good information for a book that was updated in February 2006!
