5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable for the novice
When searching for a good teaching tool/reference for first time home buying, the list of publications can be endless and confusing. This one book will lead you step by step through each of the processes involved.Having NO PRIOR HOME BUYING KNOWLEDGE, I eagerly opened this book with highlighter in hand, reading cover to cover on all topics from finding an honest agent to buying fixer-uppers, researching mortgages, neighborhoods, etc., even whether you should consider renting vs. buyng, and all the little details in between. You will learn things you never knew before, and I found myself constantly referring to many chapters throughout our experience in searching for a home. I recommend this book to anyone seeking stratightforward and easy to understand info, no fancy jargon to cut through, just plain language writing on a very in depth subject. The book's lay out is reader-friendly as well, making it very simple to locate exactly the subject you need. Don't pass this one up!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good For First Time Home Buyer with No Resources
I am trying to buy my first condo and I bought this to try and help me since I didn't really have anyone to ask questions. The book is very generic since home buying varies quite a bit from state to state and sometimes within states.
5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book!
I bought this book and "A Complete Idiot's Guide..." If you want in depth details on buying a home, then this is the book for you. The other one was too fluffy and general and didn't really explain anything. I knew NOTHING about buying a home and this book takes you step by step and teaches what you need to know. Should buy or rent? Are your finances in order? What can you afford? They answer all your questions before you even leave chapter 1!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK
This is a great book to have lying around. It is very useful in writing great reviews of others and for using to write appraisals about yourself. This is money well spent and will be a book that will last years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful Reference for Frequent Reviewers
My boss bought this for me as a gag gift when I was dragging behind in submitting my own performance review. While an amuisng gift for that situation, I think the book is a great reference for anyone who has to write reviews frequently. It's not easy to find the right words, and natural to feel "in a rut" about the words we do use so often.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ludicrous
I didn't read the passage that the other reviewer did, who stated:"Did you know that if you start a business from your home, everything you currently own and use for the corporation (tables, computers, chairs, etc.) can be considered a donation to the corporation, resulting in a write off on your individual tax return? You can even write off your rent if you operate from there!"But assuming his citation of the book is accurate the book is flat wrong.A contribution by a shareholder to a corporation in a 26 USC 351 transaction is NOT A CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION and IS NOT DEDUCTIBLE by the contributing shareholder. Moreover, one cannot contribute assets to a corporation in exchange for stock, and then cause the corporation to make a 26 USC 179 election with respect to the contributed assets.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for a new Entrepreneur
I found this book to be an excellent resource for how a small business owner can significantly reduce their tax burdon and personal legal liability.

4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good book for what it is...
As with all economics textbooks and the subject of economics in general, this book is a bit dry. That said however, it's quite thorough in its coverage of how consumers, producers, and insurers make decisions about health and health care.It gives explanations that are rather simple to understand and goes in depth as far as would be considered normal for a 300 level elective course.I should probably note that my instructor is one of the book's authors, so take my review how you will. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Power and ample information and graphics
I found this book to be one of the best out on the topic, of which there are too few at present for such an important topic. The depth and breadth of place-making topics and their coverage makes this a very excellent easy-to-read-and-understand as well as a long-term reference tool. The graphics are very well done. Having recently attended a Harvard program on retail for cities and new towns and urban center given by Bob Gibbs and Terry Shook, I especially found the book right on target. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great source for managers
This is one of those few books that is simple yet not simplistic. Book is written for corporate managers whose job responsibility is outside the decipline of finance, however who can benefit from knowing the finance at the fundamental level. Book does not go into "mechanics" of finance and focuses more on the "essense" of finance. Written with the simplicity of small business yet with questions to be asked in large corporations. I would strongly recommend this book to all my managers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and on an understandable level.
Helpful to managers to give them insight into where accountants are projecting and where hard numbers are coming from. You are able to see sources of manipulation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strongly recommended to all business managers, both the novice and the experienced
Financial Intelligence: A Manager's Guide To Knowing What The Numbers Really Mean by Karen Berman and Joe Knight (owners of the Los Angeles-based Business Literacy institute) with management expert John Case is an innovative and "user friendly" instructional guide to proper and intelligible management of finances and business oriented decision making. Financial Intelligence is an impressive compendium of guidelines and information including the basics of financial measurement, reading income statements, balancing sheets, cash flow statements, separating hard data from the assumptions and estimates, the mechanics of analysis, calculating ratios, return on investment, working on capital, knowing the difference between cash and profit, financial literacy and transparency and how to recognize how the two can boost performance. Financial Intelligence is very strongly recommended to all business managers, both the novice and the experienced, as everyone has something to learn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best straight option book out there
Mr. Lucier has written a book with no bullspit or filler material. He simply gets down to the business of educating the reader about straight options and the best way to profit from them.

5-0 out of 5 stars It only takes a Dollar to make more Money!
This book is great. It's concise, educational and to the point. Mr. Lucier provides enough information that Realtor's would never tell you. He also provides forms to guide you in the right direction. I am also reading his book about Pre-Foreclosures and it has a lot of insight with the in's and out's of the housing market.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not for you real estate slackers out there...you know who you are.
I have read Mr. Luciers book from front to book in its entirety and I'm about to re-read it again along with taking notes and contacting the attorneys, combing thru public records, etc to make this strategy work.

2-0 out of 5 stars Technical Analysis De-Mystified - Not
The other review on this date (wentraub) is not a book review but some random thoughts on investing. The Dynamic Asset Level Investing model is not even in the book but a paid service from Dorsey's website!!!!
4-0 out of 5 stars Technical Analysis De-Mystified
Technical analysts are becoming an endangered species on Wall Street. Major firms have long favored a fundamental approach emphasizing a nuts and bolts approach to company revenues, use of capital, and innovation. Scores of fundamental analysts closely follow individual sectors of the economy, scour SEC filings, and comment on daily developments pertaining to individual companies. Meanwhile a smaller cadre of 'technicians' churn out charts, graphs, and statistics that follow the ebb and flow of investor capital. Recently two well known full service brokerage firms decimated their already small contingent of technical analysts and another firm let go their star technician.
2-0 out of 5 stars Bait for online service
The book is too wordy - in fact the same information is more concisely presented and available for free at DWA website. To follow the method described you need to become a paying member of DWA. A free 2 week trail is also available at the site. This allows you to findout that to really understand and apply this method you need to take several of the $150 classes that DWA also provides. Also, the online service is really geared towards stock brokers (investment advisors).

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb!
This is the best book I have read in regards to successful business. If you work in the corporate world, this is a must read.It is based on five years of research, and the author doesn't try to prove anything other than that which the facts prove.I am reading it for the fourth time now and draw more from it each time.Again, a must read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good to Great review from Steven Vornea
Every single person needs to read this book and just buy it! This book can be a life changer for people.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best business books out there
Jim Collins puts forward one of the great concepts in business...and in life...that getting the right people in the right situations is the best staple of great leadership.Collins' message can be applied to any situation (business, sports, education, etc.).He has an engaging writing style and uses a wide variety of companies to illustrate his central theme of leadership as leading to great success.Collins also illustrates the great importance of a humble leader, one who gives of him/herself for the betterment of the system as a whole. This was a fascinating read, and you will close the book with a great deal of insight into how you run both your professional and personal life.A terrific, terrific read.In fact, I have gone back and begun to read Built to Last, which is actually the prequel to Good to Great.I honestly could not recommend this book more than I do. ... I used this book in graduate school while taking the Database Management System course. The book has usefull information. It help me understand and practice normalization. Some unfamiliar concepts also were learnt from the book. I can recommend this book to anyonegetting into the database world.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very practical.
Indeed, a brilliant rendition of practical information. I am currently working as a chief technical designer in a financial data warehouse project for a fortune 100 company. Chapter 11 (Data Warehousing) unfolded some time-critical points.

1-0 out of 5 stars IT'S POORLY ORGANIZED AND DIFFICULT TO FOLLOW; NOT INTRO BK
This is a required textbook for an Intro to DB course. Once again, the University of Texas at Dallas has followed a constant pattern of requiring textbooks that are 1) Poorly organized/written books, 2) expensive and 3)The professor haven't read the book themselves AND are not using/following a required book when teaching their course! This said, my review of this book.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A review on Andragogy and learning theories
The Adult Learner by Malcolm Knowles is a comprehensive and informative book covering various aspects and theories on learning beginning with the roots of andragogy. The reading then progresses through adult learning in human resource development to elaborating how andragogy is applied in practice. Lastly, strategies are introduced to tailor learning to individual differences and to be able to implement adult learning in organizations. I specifically found useful the new perspectives on adragogy that has emerged from research and theory in a variety of disciplines from the learner's need to know working your way through the core principles to motivation to learn. Even though this is definitely a worthy read because of the comprehensiveness of the content it would be more suitable for a reader that already has had some what of a foundation within the adult learning realm.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE ADULT LEARNER, SIXTH EDITION
This book was in excellent shape.I received it sooner than I expected.

2-0 out of 5 stars A classic, but it does not use its own advice.
Malcolm S. Knowles is the founder of the theory of Andragogy (Adult Education), and I agree with him on many of the points he makes.
