5-0 out of 5 stars Truly a seminal work
Succinct and insightful. Every manager in any business should read it. It demonstrates that every business day is a marketing activity.

Much to my chagrin, I have discovered that the book cover does not match the one that Amazon advertised, but two things bother me immensely:

5-0 out of 5 stars You will learn from this book if you are ready and willing to do the work
There is a basic rule in taking advice:Never take it from someone who has not achieved the thing you want to achieve. That means, if you want to be rich, you must learn to ignore people who are not rich when they spew their opinions at you. This rule has never been more relevant than now, when comparing these two men of great achievement with the envious, entitlement-minded people who are disparaging the book with ignorant, negative reviews.
2-0 out of 5 stars Kiyosaki is a broken record
After reading this book and Rich Dad Poor Dad, I have come to one conclusion...Robert Kiyosaki is a broken record. How many times can I read him write the same sentance and paragraph- over and over again in the same book?Kiyosaki's portion of the book provides some surface information but little depth on how to become wealthy, eventhough he specifically claims that he wants to teach us how to become rich. His writing style is a bit arrogant and provides little value to a person wishing to learn about personal finance.I agree with previous reviews about this book being a cheerleader book.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
I borrowed this from a friend so I didn't bother spending any money so at least I'm not kicking myself. However, like another reviewer stated, this is mainly a cheerleading session. If you really want something logical to read that involves personal finance and building wealth, read something by Dave Ramsey. The only REAL way you can get rich (without winning or inheriting money) is by working hard, paying off debt, learn to use a budget, stop borrowing money, and quit saying "I want it and I want it now."It's called common sense. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Introductory book for Quantitative Finance
Hull is the one stop shop for learning (and using as a reference once you have learnt "it") almost any topic in Quant Finance. This book really has it all - options, interest rate models, volatility modeling, credit derivatives, you name it. However, use it as an introductory book - learn the main concepts from here and then move on to advanced books. As a current student of quant finance, I find Hull's book to be indispensable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book for quants new to finance
I recently entered the field of quantitative finance from physics, and this book has been by far the best resource as both a learning tool and reference. Its bredth of coverage is outstanding, covering topics as simple as bond yields and zero rates, to sophsticated libor market models, weather derivatives, bermudan swaptions, etc. While a bit wordy at times, Hull does present all the mathematics in a tractible manner.Books with more mathematical sophistication, such as Brigo & Mercurio, while interesting, are far less useful on the trading floor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Ideas
If you wanted to be rich why wouldn't you read this book?
5-0 out of 5 stars A must!
There are so many books out there that are really page fillers, but this book has substance!Actual ways to really produce the results you desire! You will not be disappointed! I also highly recommend that you read, "Think Like A Billionaire" by Scot Anderson. This book compares to quality and information on the "how to's" to become a Billionaire!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Some Pie in the Sky Scam, But You Should Be Realistic
Given the title of this book, reader expectations are bound to be high and some will be disappointed, however, I don't think comparisons to the Trump book are fair.Michael Masterson has literally gone from rags to riches in a very short time. The advice that he gives in this book is practical and useful.Using some of the techniques that he had highlighted in his Early To Rise e-letter and his other books, I've increased my income this year by over 100%.If you follow his advice and make wealth-building your primary goal, you will be successful. Will you reach seven figures in seven years? Those of you will uncommon drive and focus will have an excellent chance.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
The writing may not be perfect, but it's still a great textbook, probably the best you can find.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly written
This is a poorly written textbook; rambling and fragmented information is presented on a piecemeal basis rather than in a clear, concise and well-organized manner.Important information belonging to one subject-matter chapter, is often presented as "aside" information in other chapters on wholly different subjects. This textbook appears to have been written by an author who forgot to take his ADHD medication. This "substandard" quality has become common place with this particular publishing company, Prentice Hall, to include its many subsidiaries (Pearson, Thompson, Southwestern, etc.), to the detriment of the education system.

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT TO BAd~!
This book was good but not terrific. after reading best sellers like Why we want you to be rich by Donald TRump and God Doesn't run a $2 Shop by Sage Saint Francis i found that this book just was not in the same leauge.
3-0 out of 5 stars Buy and Homework
One of Jim's suggestion was to "buy and homework".This definitely stresses upon the time and commitments that have to be devoted into staying updated on the stocks that you own. However, aside from reading the headlines and listening to conference call, Jim does not disect company's income statements as I wish he could have.I guess for this task, I will have to find another book. But overall a very insightful book.Another thing I like about reading his book is that I get to listen to him on his radio, to see him in action. The combination of radio and the book make for a really good re-inforcement.

5-0 out of 5 stars "THE BOOK" is actually quite good
Cramer has done a great job explaining how he analyzes the stock market and offers solid advice on how to put together a portfolio. This is a great book for beginners as well as practitioners interested in Cramer's way of doing things. Still, I wish he would come out with a book that delved into more detail on his advanced strategies in the last chapter, and title it Jim Cramer on Running Money: Winning Strategies for Equity Hedge Funds or something along those lines. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Concise and Easy to Understand
This book is required for MBA Managerial Accounting, and is also used in undergraduate classes. The topic chapters are well organized and use good examples to explain. This is one of the predominate and most popular books to teach this subject. It does go into detail about T accounts more than is required for my class, although the depth is not too esoteric. With that, I close in stating that the international edition is the same and is much cheaper. Even though stores won't by back Intl Editions, you can save more (and on the front end) than will be refunded at buyback at the end of semester.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great text book
Overall, this is actually a very well organized and highlighted textbook, the pages are easy to read and the charts and examples are very straightforward. Emphasis is placed in the right places. The bad thing is that the textbook does not supply answers to any of the exercises or problems which really doesn't help, but hopefully your teacher will compensate for that. I still think it's a little verbose and repetitive in the text at times, but otherwise, the chapters deliver good understanding and are very clear. I highly recommend this edition. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Concise, helpful, and interesting
This chapter turned book, provides some nice insights into the intersection of Collins's business practices and the nonprofit sector.A helpful read for those interested in social enterprise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Challenges for Non-Profits to Achieve Greatness
I have direct experience in the social sector with over twenty-five years as an advisor or board member of several, varied non-profits. "Good to Great and the Social Sectors" resonated with me as it fills a very deep void in social sector leadership guidance.
5-0 out of 5 stars Provides the Missing Link for Nonprofits to Grow from Good to Great
"Good To Great" remains my favorite leadership book, for a variety of reasons. The only shortfall has been in applying some of its tenets to our nonprofit organization. This monograph is very useful in making the book work for an organization that is driven by a different kind of results. The monograph also allows you to get this info without having to buy another copy of Good to Great,so it is well worth the cost for its small size. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Rudimentary
Do not expect much of an wisdom here. The book has enough material for maybe a one page pamphlet. The rest is war stories without beginnings or endings.
2-0 out of 5 stars The authors didn't execute.
Funny that a book about execution doesn't get it accomplish. The authors have a lot of experience and I am sure are good at leading and executing. However, the book does not get to the point. The authors ramble about their managing experience and almost 300 pages to transmit few ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful and insightful reading material
It's an easy to read book, simple and yet insightful. The Fish Philosophy does not only apply to one's workplace but also to how a person chooses to approach life in general.

3-0 out of 5 stars A great place to start
Stories make for wonderful teaching tools. FISH, based on the famed Pikes Fish Market, presents a compelling argument why every company needs to incorporate passion and fun into what it puts out. I would also recommend Get Weird by John Puetz. Good work, as long as you incorporate the ideas and don't abandon them 30 days from now. Otherwise, it becomes another addition to the Flavor of the Month slush pile. ... Read more

Economics is not widely considered to be one of the sexier sciences. The annual Nobel Prize winner in that field never receives as much publicity as his or her compatriots in peace, literature, or physics. But if such slights are based on the notion that economics is dull, or that economists are concerned only with finance itself, Steven D. Levitt will change some minds. In Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Fluff and Nonsense
The underlying theme of this book seems to be that if one can come up with enough provocative theses and find some support, however tenuous, for them, perhaps one can write a thin, light weight book which will attract attention and thereby gain one's 15 minutes of fame.
3-0 out of 5 stars Compelling, but superficial arguments
The storytelling and economic science are the backbone of this compelling book and the scattered topics aren't enough to minimize Levitt's or Dubner's effort. The superficiality of the ideas is, however, and the wild concepts that the self-proclaimed freakonomist advances are easily put to question by simple thought experiments. For instance, the most controversial proposition that Levitt makes is that the legalization of abortion in the '70s was the single most important factor in the steep decline of crime in the US in the '90s, and that can be scrutinized easily.Levitt says that the people who would have been born to those mothers in the '70s would have gone on to live lives of the unwanted and been more likely to commit crimes in their late teens and early twenties (the '90s).Since millions were aborted, they weren't there to commit those crimes later. This eerie idea may be hard to stomach, but that's not the reason it should be doubted. If the aborted children would have a higher chance of becoming criminals, they would, no doubt, also have a higher chance of becoming poor, but the poverty rates for people above 18 remained relatively stable through the '80s and since.

This is the best book I have read in regards to successful business. If you work in the corporate world, this is a must read.It is based on five years of research, and the author doesn't try to prove anything other than that which the facts prove.I am reading it for the fourth time now and draw more from it each time.Again, a must read.

Every single person needs to read this book and just buy it! This book can be a life changer for people.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best business books out there
Jim Collins puts forward one of the great concepts in business...and in life...that getting the right people in the right situations is the best staple of great leadership.Collins' message can be applied to any situation (business, sports, education, etc.).He has an engaging writing style and uses a wide variety of companies to illustrate his central theme of leadership as leading to great success.Collins also illustrates the great importance of a humble leader, one who gives of him/herself for the betterment of the system as a whole. This was a fascinating read, and you will close the book with a great deal of insight into how you run both your professional and personal life.A terrific, terrific read.In fact, I have gone back and begun to read Built to Last, which is actually the prequel to Good to Great.I honestly could not recommend this book more than I do. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Re-reading the Classics
The canon of Sales Lit goes back only a couple of decades. In that canon, Neil Rackham's first "Spin Selling" takes a special place as one of the classics or founding texts. So, if you need help preparing a meeting with one of your largest accounts, take the time to re-read this classic text.
4-0 out of 5 stars Revealing selling process
SPIN Selling illustrates the validaty of the method by showing how real Fortune 500 sales forces have improved by asking the right questions to uncover customer pain. This book will enlighten sales managers and any representatives who manage large sales transactions. Also, executives can benefit from the insights about large sales. I have personally improved my sales numbers greatly after utilizing the ideas in SPIN Selling. This book deserves a place in all-time sales manual classics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book on asking the right questions
A very good and interesting book and very easy to read. For me this book was very convincing for 2 important reasons: 1. SPIN selling is based upon scientific research of many sales calls for many years. 2. The idea of SPIN selling is about the fact that customers decide whether they buy somehting (or advance the sales call) upon their own ideas, their own beliefs, their own assumptions.

I had the great pleasure of working for Danny Meyer briefly in 2002 as a hostess at the acclaimed Tabla, and he is just an exceptional individual. You can tell that first and foremost he cares about his customers and the well-being of his staff.I feel completely honored and blessed to have worked for such a visionary and I am glad to see that he has written a bookto let us all in on his great secret of success.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smart about restaurants, brilliant about life

5-0 out of 5 stars BUSINESS WRITING INSTRUCTION TAKES QUANTUM LEAP!
As a college business communication instructor and corporate writing consultant of 20+ years, I feel my career is about to take a quantum leap forward with my discovery of this magnificent compendium of materials.Mary Ellen Guffey has done ALL the hard work!Juicy, readable text:done.Riveting "inside" information on cool corporations:done.Web-based support?Manuals?PowerPoints?Videos?Done.Fresh writing prompts, some packaged with the research already done?Done. With my old text, I've been drowning in an attempt to supplement and update and enrich the dated material enough to keep it relevant and arresting. Now I'm finding that I have plenty of time to interact with students over their own writing and presentations.I've always felt one-on-one and small-group interaction to be a huge part of my mission as a classroom teacher. Thanks to Mary Ellen Guffey, I'm able to do more of it, while spending less time overall on take-home work.Thank you, Mary Ellen, from the trenches--not just for a marvelous tool, but for a whole toolbox full of them. ... The successful companies are not afraid to confront the problem when it arises and discuss it rationally.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great pairing Amazon!
When I read "Crucial Conversations" I found myself tearing through it in long spurts, driven by an intense interest in the authors' discussion of how we handle those tough circumstances life throws our way. It makes the case that we all need to understand our style for handling the inevitable duress of a difficult conversation, and they complement theories with excellent, actionable strategies that work well in the real world.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent roadmap
This book is not your everyday self help book.It provides a fail-safe roadmap for tough communications.

5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable Knowledge
This book was used in our MBA finance course. Many parts of financial management in this book are useful for a financial leader. This book has easy, logical, and coherent valuation formulas related to WACC and other financial measurements. Certainly speaks real life application - I intend to keep this book beyond my MBA program.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Explanations
Overall, this text is well put together. It has good explanations and examples in each chapter. If you choose to take the time and do the self test questions at the end of each section, the answers are in the back. Also, the end of the chapter problems have answers that you can check your work.I haven't used the supporting web material yet, but there are tools and supporting material to download.

5-0 out of 5 stars good enough for undergrads + serious MBAs
Terrific intro-level book to corporate finance -- those thinking the book is too basic could not be more wrong: top MBA programs around the country are adopting this book back into their cirricula. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Very Good
I have read a lot of personal development books. This book is very poorly written, has bad arguments which loop around to create reason, and I could not imagine giving this book to some poor kid in South America, southeast Asia, or Africa and telling them, "here read this book, you are starving but it is a holographic illusion, your Consciousness or the Hologram Illusion did this, it is not real." The author of this is born too well off, is lost in his Rich middle class American world filled with Western Philosophy that isn't applying to the rest of the world, and needs to strike a reality check. I do believe thought creates action but this is a little sick behavior from the author.

2-0 out of 5 stars Despite obvious problems, still willing to use ideas
I want to believe. If it's true, it will work regardless of my "belief."In fact, I even used the author's "Process" on my discomfort with his system. 2-0 out of 5 stars NOT TO BAd~!
This book was good but not terrific. after reading best sellers like Why we want you to be rich by Donald TRump and God Doesn't run a $2 Shop by Sage Saint Francis i found that this book just was not in the same leauge.

Effectively managing personnel--as well as one's own behavior--is an extraordinarily complex task that, not surprisingly, has been the subject of countless books touting what each claims is the true path to success. That said, Marcus Buckingham and Donald O. Clifton's Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Take work from your strengths
A fantastic book of weekness and strength, a human being is a mixture of weekness and strength equally and those among us who take work with thier strength come out successful regardless of the profession they are involve in, they can focus on thier strength rather than weakness, positive attitude regardless all the adversaries of a life. I learned a great deal out of this Marcus Buckingham book and I strongly recommend to the book lovers don't miss this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Novel Concept
By:Jeffrey W. Bennett, Founder of LayMentor and author of Under the Lontar Palm.
2-0 out of 5 stars Ok~ but I think the Keirsey Temperment Test is more accurate - and cheaper.
This book has its good points. If anything, it helps you put into words what you wantfrom a supervisor, but it is not very accurate. The online test does not account for a difference between when 2 of their options are both exactly like you, or if they don't describe you at all. This messes up the results, and it did not describe me very well. I am not just in denial. I have taken a lot of personality type tests, like the Keirsey Temperment sorter and have a pretty good idea of my strengths. So, although this book is pretty good in making you understand the importance of incouraging your strengths, it still leaves you wondering about how you fit in to their terminology.
