5-0 out of 5 stars Very good for first exposure to financial markets
This book is not an advanced book on financial markets, but it is a good introductory book. I use this book for my undergraduate teaching. Both I and students are happy about the coverage of the book. It is well organized and well written. Improvements will be valuable in the derivatives markets and risk management areas.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good start
I've used some version of this book for many years now, and I've seen it evolve.I think, as other reviewers have said, that there are some simplified portions of the book, especially those parts dealing with monetary economics. There are other portions which lay out the principles as only these authors can, and those parts are extremely helpful and valuable. This book allows me to teach my notes and thoughts with a textbook serving as a reference and an introduction -- it doesn't get in my way, in other words.I use it along with several other texts, and I think it gets the job done.Students seem to like it as well, mainly for its clarity. For someone wanting to learn the basics, this is an excellent choice.

2-0 out of 5 stars This book insults the intelligence of all but newcomers
Although this might be a perfect book for those looking for simplicity, I would not advise it to anybody with previous exposure to finance.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is absolutely awesome
I hesitated writing a review for this book because I didn't want people to be drawn to it and therefore increase their understanding of options trading. However it looks like alot of other people already have written there review so I'll add my two cents worth.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Options Bible
This is the essential book for aspiring options traders. It is written in easy to understand language from a practitioner's perspective, as opposed to an academic's perspective. Nevertheless, a run down of the mathematics for the theoretical models is provided in the appendix.

3-0 out of 5 stars A mediocre followup to Trading for a Living
I should probably begin by stating that I've read Elder's first book, Trading for a Living, and found it interesting but not groundbreaking. While it had some interesting concepts and had some great technical advice, the book did not revolutionize me as a trader. This book is more of the same with a little more added toward the end.In it Elder essentially restates what he taught in his first book, tweaks it a little (but not enough to justify buying another book), and then shows a few handpicked trades of his and attempts to demonstrate his theory in action.

Having been through many authors/gurus this is very simply the
2-0 out of 5 stars Not for Short-Term Trading
I am glad that Elder recognizes that applying his concepts to short-term trading, such as daytrading, is much harder than applying them to a longer time horizon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, Realistic, Sarcastic
If you want to get a peek at the investment banking world, then this book is the one.I found the book to be entertaining and insightful. It is difficult to find detailed, objective accounts of Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, and Jonathan provides that here.
4-0 out of 5 stars Stay on Story
As an I-Banker at a regional firm I always enjoy reading books such as this. This is a mixed bag.Knee starts the book discussing his internship in London, what a "rookie" does, what he did well, what he did not do well, and why he didn't want to do this forever. But, after an MBA and a short career with an airline, he's back at it again, and with success. He "accidentally" fell into a role and used his wit to carve out a successful niche. This is where this book is at its best and an excellent, fast read.
5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Insightful
The Accidental Investment Banker is an excellent and entertaining history of investment banking.Mr. Knee uses his experience and knowledge to accurately describe both the intricacies of the job and the role investment bankers actually play. Most importantly, he provides thoughtful insight on trends in the industry over the past ten years witnessing firsthand the decline of relationship banking and the impact of the internet bubble.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Introduction to Financial Planning
I bought this book for a non-credit Financial Planning class at Florida State.I didn't stick with the class, but I'm keeping the book.It seems to cover just about everything anyone except a financial professional could ever need to know about the financial planning process. If there's a downside to the book, it's that it reads like a textbook; HOWEVER, that's what it is.AND, being a GOOD textbook, the writing is clear and understandable.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for taking financial control
I had to purchase this book for a university course I once took (several editions earlier). This book is a great resource for taking you through the personal financial planning process. This book may seem a bitintimidating but if you want personal financial success, it is worth goingthrough the book.It will take you step by step on how to achieve yourfinancial success. This is the best textbook I have ever purchased. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Self Study
The text is very easy to read and simple to follow along. The self study guide that comes with it is very handy to get a full understanding of the mathematical equations.I was disappointed that the weblink provided in the book to get more up to date information from Standard & Poor's was not working.I had to order the 11th edition for my second finance class but that was by order of the university. When the 11th edition arrived the weblink in that book worked.I really enjoy reading the book on my commute to and from work.I recommend this book to even the curious person who wants a better understanding of retirement and pension plans.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life and our business model
Effort-Less Marketing walks you through 5 steps to a super profitable business and a wonderful life. This book has changed my life in many ways.I really did not have a vision of where our company was headed until I read Steve's book. Everyday I now work on the vision of my future life along with our companys. There are many great tools in this book to help anyone that is just getting started in the industry or someone who has been in the business for years. The tools help organize you so that implementation is very easy.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Marvelous Cook Book on How to Succeed!
I have been a practicing securities attorney for over 30 years. My clients are faced with daunting challenges in raising their capital. Over my career I have met most of the experts in capital formation.I met Steve Moeller 20 years ago when I heard him present to a room full of financial wholesalers. Steve knew more about the business than anyone I had ever met. When I found out about his book - Effortless Marketing - I immediately secured my copy and poured through it. I do not know how Steve does it, but he is the master at communicating to professionals strategies and tactics in easy-to-understand ways. More importantly, I think Effortless Marketingexplores deeply the ins and outs of the secrets of great financial advisors. The professional advisor studying this book should be confident that he/she is getting the best there is. Steve has not left anything out of this book. It is so rare to find such sophisticated material made so easy. This is a cookbook of how to succeed. It is full of checklists to real life stories that validate Steve's advice. As a writer myself, I know how hard it is sometimes to provide both the easy-to-use and sophisticated material. Steve knows how to do it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book for Advisors Available
I have been in the investment industry for 28 years. I have had the best training available through three major brokerage firms. Steve and his book have ideas and concepts way ahead of where the industry is today. Steve's techniques are truly effortless and have transformed my business and my life. Effortless Marketing is a must read for anyone interested in staying on the cutting edge of the financial services industry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Explained Option Strategies
This is an excellent book.It has a logical progression and thoroughly describes option strategies from the conservative to the aggressive. My only suggestion to enhance the book's practicality would be to have an appendix showing profit and loss worksheets for each strategy. His website, The Option Strategist, has some useful option market commentary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nitty-gritty street smarts for options traders
"McMillan on Options" is a rare kind of book, and one of the very best.Especially revealing are the discussions in Chapter 4, "The Predictive Power of Options", on how certain patterns of option trading volume and implied volatility can be tip-offs to insider activity and sharp moves in the underlying stock, and on how to take practical advantage of such patterns. The chapters on trading systems and on how to trade volatility and the volatility skew were also well written and useful to the active options trader. All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone seriously contemplating getting involved in the options game.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exercise your option and buy this book!
As a ROP (registered Options principal) I feel I am uniquely qualified to review this book. First, understand that Larry McMillan is considered by many to be the best options mind on Wall Street (sorry Bernie Schaeffer). His knowledge of this less-than-logical derivative investment is the equivalent of Alan Greenspan’s knowledge of the economy.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent readibility and examples, did well in class
I purchased this book for a class where it was required, but saved $ by purchasing through amazon.I paid about $120 and see that the price has gone up in the last 2 months. This book seems long but is filled with examples of calculations and process.I found that reading the book gave me a clearer and more thorough explanation than even my teacher could give.I have learned a lot and would highly recommend this book to anyone trying to learn finance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
It is most refreshing to find a book that discloses the less than glamorous side of Forex trading. The percentage of people who consistently win is very small but this is the case with all businesses, not just trading. The information discussed in this book is precisely the kind of information that makes the difference between those seeking fast wealth who then drop out a few months later, and those who persevere and are able to stack the odds in their favor. Forex trading is indeed a matter of learning to beat the odds by trading based on a combination of factors that add up to high percentage odds which create consistent wins over time. Igor has earned my respect as one of the few legitimate traders who is not in the business to be a broker's employee selling glamour to the masses who have no intention of undergoing the discipline and work it takes to become a successful trader. Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars A light at the end if the tunnel
Being exposed to Forex for a little more than 13 years now, I have to honestly say that having read numerous volumes on the subject this book stands out both by it's simplicity and complexity combined. It is a well known fact that a majority of really great things are simple. Here is where this book comes in. Even though it might lool a bit comlex after reading it carefully and grasping the idea, or better put, the strategy that Igor describes you will get the sense of safe heaven. Forex markets are driven both internally and externally by such an abundance of information that it is difficult and sometimes very tiresome to make sense of it all. This book gives a clear cut picture of what needs to be done at a a very specific points in time. It doesn't just give you the tools to trade but also, and that's extremelly important, teaches you the right attitude to forex. It gives the trader the peace of mind with clear cut money management and trading techniques to be applied when the market presents it's opportunities. This strategy can be used by both seasones traders as well as novices. You can work and still manage 20 to 40 min a day to do your analyses and enter the orders for the trades. Or you can watch the market constantly and identify and react to the situations that present itself. I highly recomend this book as a unique approach to trading and consistently making money with a very limited stress that most people experience in this bussiness. For a person with an opened mind this could be a breakthrough that they need to develop their own profitable trading routine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands-on trading guide
I view this book as the best possible instruction manual and survival guide in a cold and merciless trading world.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality
This book has serious manufacturing defects.First books pages were not in align, same problem with replacement book.Amazon must have no quality control, because I do not known how they could miss this.Amazon was great in replacing book, but sent me another defective book.Had no other problems with Amazon books in past.If you order this book expect defects.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the true classics
This book is a true classic, and most investors would be well-advised to start with this book as they seek to learn more about the process of making their money work for them.In particular, Graham's book is useful because it recognizes that the universe of potential investments is greater than just stocks - he covers warrants, bonds, etc.
4-0 out of 5 stars I Like This One The Best
Out of all the editions of this book commonly available I have to admit liking this one the best.It is the original Graham unfiltered by Warren Buffett or anyone else. There is some great advice in the book but much of it is available elsewhere these days and much of it many experienced investors understand only too well after recent adventures in the stock market. It is worth noting, however, that despite all the hype about Graham's being a buy and hold kind of guy, the book contains a Dow Jones timing strategy that the author thought the public might find useful in timing their sales and purchases of stocks.
