1-0 out of 5 stars Do not use!
It is full of errors. The explanations are difficult to follow. There are few highlights in the text which makes scanning for a quick review impossible. There is no chapter summary. The book presumes a thourough knowledge of Excel which many students do not have. Stay away!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as described
Previous reviews inspired me for the purchase. This book is NOT MBA material. I would rate it at Business 101 book. Most spreadsheet models are basically the same using the SOLVER function in excel. There are better tutorials online.

5-0 out of 5 stars Management Science made understandable
By incorporating Microsoft Excel spreadsheet examples of the problems, the authors have managed to make self-study management science possible. I'm absolutely convinced this is the best way to learn MS.

4-0 out of 5 stars This was the econometrics bible but they never updated it
Judge, et al. was the standard reference in econometrics in the late 80s and early 90s.It's a terrific text because it has both theory and applications (with emphasis on the former, though). The best thing about it at the time of its publication was it was very complete, covering almost everything that was known in econometrics at the time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Precise and concise
Another review stated that Green was a clearer book than Judge et al.No way. This book starts and concludes thoughts without the constant refer to section blah blah blah found in Green. Also Judge et al. is accurate; something sorely missing in Green.Hamilton on the other hand focuses strictly on time series, and forecasting. If you want a solid reference for econometrics this is the most complete and well thought out book available.

3-0 out of 5 stars outdated
I don't want to say too much about this book.I use it a lot.But I think what is in this book has been said so much more clearly elsewhere.I would rather attack econometrics using Greene's clarity or if I were interested in time-series, I would much rather have Hamilton. It is okay.It was a warhorse for its time. But unless you need it for a class, I think there are better references out there. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A book that gives a good feel of the period.
Written in the context of the Cold War, the author emphasizes the need for free markets and an open society for a society to property function. It stresses the importance of the individual and the needs of the individual against the backdrop of an "ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country" era and the basic economic honesty of selfishness in general. There are several ideas in the book that probably need to be revisited (which is why you should read it) since they are becoming issues again in today's world.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Liberalism at its best
An all-time favorite of mine, Capitalism & Freedom creates a framework of classic liberalism and argues forcefully in favor of free-markets and decentralization over the expansion of government involvement in economic and social affairs.Friedman builds his argument from the ground up by identifying coercion as the State's distinguishing feature over all other societal organizations. From the (classic) liberal's perspective, this aspect shapes the relationship between citizen and government, and strictly limits the appropriateness of State involvement in society, particularly with regard to well-intentioned programs and policy.
4-0 out of 5 stars Outdated. Can better be understood as polemics with Galbraith
This book probably should not be treated as "capitalist manifesto" a la Marx but more like an attempt to present a position opposite to famous Galbraith "The Affluent Society" (1958). Reading the book without reading Galbraith first creates an impression of cheap advocacy of capitalism and unrestricted market almost in best libertarian (anarcho-capitalist) style. But as a polemic with Galbraith vision of post-capitalism (post-industrial society) the book looks like an interesting historical document.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful text
I actually very much liked this textbook. The examples are both interesting and enlightening, and the explanations clear and easy to follow. As the title suggests, it is tailored to a course with a heavy math component, and the appendix, in particular, provides a good guide to equations, derivations, etc. I have also found it to be extremely useful in later econometrics applications, as its logical organization makes it very easy to find exactly the information you need.

2-0 out of 5 stars good examples, complicated explanations, too many typos
As a student who never has taken econometrics class, I suffered the weakness of this book (which was used as the textbook) more than I benefited from the strengths. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars At the Forefront of Modern Mathematical Finance
This advanced text provides an excellent account of the current state-of-the art of options pricing/hedging models and interest rate term structure models. The book is accessible to both advanced practitioners of mathematical finance as well as to pure researchers in the field.
4-0 out of 5 stars Martingales & Finance
I have used this book for two courses in my MSc degree in Financial Maths...well this book is hard to understand at first glance, but, once you are introduced with a good course on stochastic analysis and applied probability, this is an illuminating book...I particularly enjoyed the part on foreing equity derivatives and exotic derivatives.....Harmed with patience this is definitely the book by which you can effectively gain a sound a knowledge on modern mathematical finance theory....reading in conjunction with Bingham-Kiesel book, could help understanding the foundation of the subject.

4-0 out of 5 stars yes, but ...
I've been using this book on and off over the last year. At first I was very impressed with the level of detail in the mathematics, especially as it was the only book at the time focussing on risk-neutral methods andcovering BGM. But I've become increasing disillusioned with it of late. It's difficult to explain, but although the whole book is written intraditional theorem-proof style, there are no real proofs! (I have a PhD inmath and have done research for 10 years so I should know a little aboutproofs.) The only "proofs" provided are basically symbolshifting, but the heart of the math is strangely absent. This is especiallystrange given the Springer series in which it appears. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A deeply insightful anti-Economics economics book
Fischer Black was among the most brilliant economists of the 20th century, with an eccentric style. This book is a masterpiece that goes back to Von Neumann-Morgenstern first principles to reconstruct macroeconomics, stripping away errors due to oversimplified models and overaggregated data. The argument is short and easy to understand, although its subtleties repay many rereadings. The bulk of the book consists of short refutations of other views, organized alphabetically by economist last name (Fischer was an eccentric guy). These contain many important insights, although they require familiarity with economics terminology to understand, and the random topical order is annoying.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good resource but not for learning macroeconomics
This is an excellent resource for a graduate student in economics to have (or for a professor). It has good summaries of many articles and clear information on a wide variety of issues relating to macroeconomics. However, it would be extremely difficult to learn macroeconomics from this book.It assumes that you already have a wide knowledge. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good introductory book !
Full of real-life examples that provide some intuitive insight about the issues that may arise when modelling time series and forecasting. Requires some initial knowledge in statistics and algebra but if you're involved in time series modelling, it should be your first book. All the data thats used is available in the authors webbsite for downloading, very nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars nice book on time series for statisticians and economists
To make this review short, I will say that I agree with all seven points made by the reviewer from New York, NY, whomever he or she may be. Franses is clear, concise, authoritative and up-to-date on all the advances.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introductory book on economic time series modeling
Recently, I reread Franses book and expanded my review, which now includes 10 benefits.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Collection of Nash Writings!
I only rate books that I really enjoy reading. While this one has some techy chapters, readers without a strong math background can still enjoy it.5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
Personally, I found this book to be very interestring. The proofs and ideas are presented in clear and non-rigomorphic fashion. One is able to read the works of Nash in the way he himself presented them, and hopefully appropriate some mental strategies used by this genius. There is much that goes on behind the scene of creation of proofs.I think mathematicians of today would greatly benefit from availability of larger number of books which would contain the mathematical works in the way they were originally presented. This is certainly a major step in that direction.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Most Welcome Mathematical Banquet
I can't begin to express how deeply satisfying it was to peruse these papers by John Nash. You almost felt you were right there at his side, as he penned them.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent - practical and insightful- introduction
If you are looking for a book that expands on financial econometrics beyond "The Econometrics of Financial Markets", the dated but otherwise excellent book of Campbell, Lo, and MacKinlay this is an excellent choice.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book.
Just as in his other books, Franses demonstrates that he is a good communicator. Good structure (follows a logic path), well written and good examples.
5-0 out of 5 stars nice coverage if non-linear time series
Like his other books, Franses provides an nice applied treatment of non-linear time series models that are in this case applicable to finance. It includes extensive coverage of regime switching models. It includes data drawn from several financial markets including Tokyo, London and Frankfurt. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Unclear
I used this book a semester ago in my probability class and I must say this is one of the worst textbooks I've come across with. There are plenty of exercises in the book and like the reviewer above said, it covers a lot. However, my friends and I all find the explanations are unclear and unhelpful.

3-0 out of 5 stars Above average, but that's not saying much for b-stat texts
I have taught MBA Stats using this book for 3 semesters. I have looked carefully at many others, and taught with some of them. Here are some thoughts about Keller/Warrack:

5-0 out of 5 stars Another dimension
The fact that Prof. Baltagi goes in deep detail through his own (an extensive) work must be seen as a plus to those interested in becoming involved in research (specially in hypothesis testing). It is unfrequent that an author provides a guided tour through the backstage of his research papers, and Baltagi should be congratulated for this honest effort, it help me considerably with my own research. Whether it serves the purposes of casual readers looking for a broad introduction, is debatable (there were no book around when I learned this), in my opinion it does it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Basically flawed
I have not read the second edition of this book, but my experience of the first edition when reading for my economics doctorate was that it was not an easy book to use. In particular, it had a rather ideosyncratic view of the literature. Certainly, it is curious that there are two pages of references to the Author's work and less that one of Maddala, Arrelano, Bond, Pesaran and Smith combined.
2-0 out of 5 stars Mistake
The first sentence of the first comment apparently confuses"mere" with "slight". Also, his judgement is too harsh. The book definitely deserves two stars. ... Read more
