5 stars relative to others
It's not the perfect urban economics book, but since there is no other better, it deserves a 5. The book is very comprehensive, which is good. There are topics that could be explored better (either simplified or extended) and some times more accurately according to the standard urban economics theory. Some topics are not really urban economic issues, but they can be avoided during the reading. It has a very good survey of empirical evidence, but I'd prefer to have more details on the evidence and on the limitations of the empirical studies. Also, it needs more realistic examples. The questions at the end of the chapter are not creative, and not well adjusted to the material in the book (they sound vague, most of the time).

Best book on the subject I`ve read.
Although Stiglitz makes it extremely readable and more elegant in his Economics of the Public Sector, I found it more effective to learn the subject due to the deeper treatment of the models and theories.

Public Finance
Perhaps slightly lacking on the theoretical side (but I guess this was Prof Rosen's objective), this book offers a broad yet detailed overview of public economics. Many parts are in narrative style making for a pleasantly clear read. Less brilliant, more honest
This book is not as challenging as Stiglitz, and the author does not have Stiglitz's dazzling facility with economic theory. But Rosen is properly less trusting of the political process, gives greater scope to politicaland ethical philosophy, is open to a wider range of ideas and has morereferences than Stiglitz, is less prone to rush to judgement, and is lessbeholden to the Clintonista viewpoint. This is the better book upon whichto ground a sound understanding of public economics. Compare Rosen withStiglitz on the Coase Theorem, the Flat Tax, the economic role of the stockmarket, and Social Security reform. Too bad Rosen's fairness cannot becombined with Stiglitz's brilliance. ... Read more

Blows the Lid Off of Certain Economic Fantasies
Ever wonder just how the rich get richer and the poor get poorer?Well, Susan George goes the distance in explaining both the how and the why of this phenomenon, on a global context.Her book, A Fate Worse Than Debt, outlines just how a few select countries continue to accrue wealth, while a vast majority sink deeper into the abyss of poverty and insecurity.
What Price is Peace?
I agree 100% with the previous reviewer, about this book changing your life. This book, along with others like 'Man Made Famine' show the truth is worse than fiction. And pseudo liberals like Sting with their cheesy 'sponsor a child' stuff is NO GOOD.Makes us first world feels less guilty about the 'third world' (which means, the overexploited Non white world). And this books goes real deep, with the facts and quotes (from Banks, Multinations the power brokers) and leaves us with the question. What Price for Peace, am I prepared to allow say, Ghana develop it's Gold and Diamond mines knowing that if it does it put my Middle Class standard of living at risk? Really what is the price of peace. This book changed my life, shows what REALLY goes on ....
Must read for all students, taxpayers, inhabitants of 1st world countries. Shows how WB is corrupt and devastating down to its CORE! Before you turn on TV one more time, MUST read this. ... Read more
