5-0 out of 5 stars The inflation myth.If you see inflation today plan on massive growth tommorow.
The Inflation myth is that it results from rapid growth.Inflation is the result of radical new technologies and the entrance of the young new generations that bring them to the workforce.Other than the war periods, the greatest periods of inflation have coincided with major periods of technology innovation:Inflation wave following the crusades, another massive wave following the capitalism revolution; and the biggest wave emerging caused from the information revolution.

The "It's the 2000's and everything is going to be great because nothing can go wrong" theme was the opposite of what I was looking for.
1-0 out of 5 stars Pandering to the "greed" in all of us...
Readers would be better served by reading "The Intelligent Asset Allocator", which has the same core recommendations with regard to saving and investing, but much harder data on asset allocation (which provides >85% of the explanatory variable in overall portfolio returns according to most academic studies), following those recommendations instead, and then going out and just living their lives instead of vainly seeking some "new life around the corner, if only I had another $(fill in the blanks) million" by spending their hard-earned money on these investment book du jours. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars In largely jargon-free and accessible terms
The expert collaboration of David Croteau (Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richard, Virginia) and William Hoynes (Associate Professor and Chair of Sociology at Vasser College, Poughkeepsie, New York), The Business Of Media: Corporate Media And The Public Interest is a candid revealing and detailed study of the rapidly evolving media industry, especially in an increasingly media-saturated society. A thoroughly scholarly work which deftly presents its in-depth study in largely jargon-free and accessible terms ideal for the non-specialist general reader, The Business Of Media offers insights and a close scrutiny into what really goes on behind newspaper and broadcast journalism headlines. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The previous review
The review below ("Lacking enough depth and details") was written by a disgruntled student of mine soon after he finished my course, presumably because he was dissatisfied with his grade. Take it for what you will. My view is that Persson and Tabellini's book is nicely complementary with mine (it covers different things and has a different focus). I use both in teaching, as well as a number of other books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lacking enough depth and details
The book covers several topics on political economics and macroeconomics including (but not limited to) inconsistency in government policies, voting, election and political cycles. The coverage of book from each topic or model is brief, leaving the reader to seek the related paper in journals to understand the topic in depth. The models presented are noramlly simple and easy which is not what one would see in an advanced graduate field.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must in any economist's library
Numerous issues concerning conflict of interest and strategic behavior are involved in political matters and economic policy decisions in particular, and in macroeconomic outcomes in general.Allan Drazen presents the most complete analysis of the literature concerning these issues, both from a theoretical and an empirical perspective.I think this book is the Blanchard and Fischer's of Political Economy.Superb. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Monetary revolutionary or nutball?
He makes some interesting points. And then repeats them over and over and over. He also gives no suggestion for implementing his solution, other than everyone with a loan suing the bank for loaning them illegitimate money. I believe he is currently incarcerated in a federal prison for tax fraud (claimed Texas was not really a state and therefore didn't have to file tax returns).

5-0 out of 5 stars Debt Virus, a short synopsis
This book is written at a high school level but it is more5-0 out of 5 stars Wealth, Virtual Wealth and Debt
Frederick Soddy wrote a book in the 1920's with the same title as my review. Dr. Soddy was writing about the monetary system in England and he reached the same conclusions as Dr. Jaikaran. Dr. Soddy also won the Nobel Prize in Physics for work involving the discovery of Isotopes. Dr Soddy was clearly a very bright man, but after reading his book I must tell you he was obviously better with numbers and physics than he was with the English language. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Givens Review is Superb, This Amplifies
Anthony Gibbens' review is superb, and I endorse it and amplify on it.THis book loses one star to two flaws: it begs too many key issues (such as health care, and corporate accountability), and it has no budget and no section on tax reform and increasing government revenue by eliminating fraud, waste, loopholes, and bribery-induced subsidies. That is always my litmus test for serious books about economic policy. One can use the National Budget Simulation, for example, and actually test all these ideas.I, for example, have taken the trouble to identify $550 billion a year in readily available increases in federal tax revenue, and another $300 billion a year in defense and intelligence spending that could be redirected toward soft power and open source intelligence/revitalization of education and national research. It's not real until it's in the budget. This book is platitudinous, worthy of consideration, but not legislatively enactable.
4-0 out of 5 stars Avision for Decmocratic Party domestic policy
The Pro-Growth Progressive is an outline that promotes the agenda of the liberal movement (now self re-named as Progressive). This outline contains both strategy (to link policy ideas to American values of work, self reliance, fairness, equality of opportunites, etc.) and substance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Economic Growth and Development: Reveiw
This is an excellent economic development book for the undergraduate and masters level audience. The focus of this book as compared to other development books (i.e. Todaro) is that it emphasizes the importance of economic growth rather than equity issues.I find this approach refreshing.Van den Berg uses historical and current case studies to bring the theory out of the book and into the real world.Overall, Economic Growth and Development is an informative and stimulating read for professors, students, and anyone else who is interested in understanding why some countries are developed while others are still developing.Five stars! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Full of information, light on fluff
This has to be the most efficient text book that I have ever read. Most books assigned to college courses are padded with useless pages to text.As a graduate student who also works, I don't have the time to shuffle through these pages looking for the information I need.In "Public Budgeting" David Nice is able to make every page count.Looks can be deceiving as this book looks to be a short and quick read, though that is not the case.Everything included within these pages is relevant information.Immediately getting to the point, this makes the learning experience much less tedious."Public Budgeting" is a book I would recommend to any public administration student.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of David Nice's Public Budgeting
This book was very concise and coherent. It was right to the point with no long excessive unnecessary information. The theme of the book stuck directly to the main point which is budgeting in the public sector.
4-0 out of 5 stars Public Budgeting made easy
The textbook titled "Public Budgeting" was written by the author David Nice and published by Wadsworth Group Publishing. The purpose of the book is to combine the focus of budget literature and public administration in a simplistic format for a wide range audience. One does not have to have a career in budgeting or finance to understand the concepts of the book. It is presented in a clear and concise format. The text is divided into 11 chapters. The topics of the text range from a brief introduction, overview of the various phases in the budget process, anayltical techniques, the adoption and implementation phases, and the complex relationships between the economy and public budgeting. "Public Budgeting" is an appropirate text for all levels especially for those being introduced to budgeting concepts.
