5-0 out of 5 stars You Can Run But You Cannot Hide...
I find human beings fascinating. We go through life thinking that somehow the world is outside of us, that things just seem to happen to us, that there really is no way to get ahead in life so stop complaining...nobody will listen anyway, right? Most of us just settle for the leftovers...fighting over the scraps like scavenger dogs and yet within the heart and soul of each of us there lives a King...a Queen...that desires to come forth and lay claim to what is rightfully ours to express, extend, and experience. But how do we do this? How do we go from rags to riches? How do we step away from our past and into a glorious present?
3-0 out of 5 stars Real Magic?
I apologize for the off topic nature of this post, but after reading this book I never got the impression that this was witchcraft magic though I did see a mentioning of black and white magic. I thought that was given as an example. None of the techniques in here (visualizations, mirror technique) seemed "magic"/magick/witchcraft to me. Am I wrong here? Is this REALLY witchcraft?

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Practical Reference
This book simply rules the subject area! If you are a practitioner looking for hands-on advice and solid methodology, this is your blueprint. 2-0 out of 5 stars Not for serious consultants
I've spent over 10 years with Big 5 consulting firms and read this book with a great degree of enthusiasm, given the background of the authors. But I was very disappointed! The book is laced with "feel good" examples about what other firms are doing in running their practices without actually formulating any definitive conclusions or suggestions (as one would find in David Maister's work). It appears more like the authors talking about their experiences/adventures with no particular audience in mind.So if you want to read this book, do not expect any serious advice coming out of it.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars You can learn a lot if you don't fall asleep first.
I am currently enrolled in a floral design program using this book as text.Yes, it is a very imformative book, but Ms. Hunter goes into far to much detail and uses far to many words to get her point across.Maybe it's just me and I am a far more visually oriented person, but trying to learn floral design through the use of a text book so far is not my cup of tea...I think it's a good reference book but that's about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Textbook
I have referred to this textbook throughout the five years since I took my first floral design class.I am now a seasoned designer and sometimes refresh my memory by re-reading chapters.Well-written and illustrated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth buying.
This is a great textbook. Not for casual reading. It has so much information about floral design and care and handling of fresh flowers and foliage. It gives good design illustrations that you can copy and make for your home or for friends and family.I'll be referring to this book for information long after my classes are over. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Identifying talent
This ia a worthwile read about people management. The author's take a non-traditional approach to people management and their points are usually sensible and logical. The fundamental point of this book is to identify the talent within the employee and how to harness that talent for the good of both the company & employee.

5-0 out of 5 stars If You're a Manager ... You Need To Read This
I must agree with the Amazon reviewer who said that if you could only read one business book, this should be it.It really should be required reading for all managers and supervisors, and definately a required read of all MBA students.

5-0 out of 5 stars from a teacher
This book has helped me tremendously in redesigning my reading program. As a special education teacher I am always looking for new concepts when it comes to my struggling readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, research-based, trustworthy.
Dr. Richard Allington continues to provide a research-based perspective that goes beyond the quick fixes, commercial-for-profit programs, and the political rhetoric of the day.If you really want to understand reading and learn a variety of research-based strategies that can be used to enhance reading, this is the book for you. There are plenty of practical strategies for teachers as well as parents. However, if you are looking for simplistic fixes (more phonics, more tests, more homework), I would advise you to go to your conservative "think" tanks and listen to politicians who have never read a research study.

5-0 out of 5 stars Explains concepts in an easy to understand manner
How beneficial you will find this book depends on your background. If you are a parent, teacher, or college student trying to learn about basic research on reading, then this book is for you. This book gave me a nice review, but if you are familiar with the original research, you may want to skip this as something you already know.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Write a Proposal That's Accepted Every Time - You Need This Book!
I purchased this book earlier this year. While we don't often submit written proposals, we used the techniques to close over $200,000 in business in the first few months.
5-0 out of 5 stars It worked the FIRST TIME I used it
While I do not often submit many written proposals, since most of my negotiation is done over the phone or in person, the few written proposals I have been required to sumbit were accepted every time! The key was following the advice provided in this book.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not at all worth the price
Thank goodness my company paid for this book.In no way is it worth more than $100.Consideringing that every other page is a notes page, you effectively get a 60-page book.Exclude the related information (ex: sales questions, presentation tips) and maybe 15 pages of this book actually relate to writing a proposal.I have read most of the books out there on developing proposals and any of them are better than this one at helping you develop a proposal. And they cost a tenth as much. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The relationship advice in this book is worth the price
Sure, this guy is pretty rude and in-your-face, but I can't say that he isn't honest. The part in the book where he talks about relationships is well worth the price of this book.To give you an idea of what he talks about when it comes to relationships, it's basically this:You don't need anybody, and if you do, the relationship is doomed. He talks about how people need their own space and their own friends, not to be too clingy or needy, and how independence attracts others. That chapter is the best advice on relationships I've ever read, and I've read quite a few.

4-0 out of 5 stars Straight Talk
I found Larry's staight forward manner kind of refreshing - considering one rarely finds such straight talk concerning life these days.Anyway, the material is a collage of self-help annecdotes mixed in with Larry's experiences.I would recommend this book as a quick and easy read that has some writing exercises sprinkled in.

5-0 out of 5 stars A cold bucket of water.
I bought this book in an airport, and by the time I got to my destination, I had read it, underlined it, and highlighted the heck out of it. It smacks you around, shakes you up and hangs you out, and it's been the greatest turn-around book I've read in many years. His deal with stress "Stress comes from knowing what's right and doing what's wrong"- or " Do not loan anyone your books"- wish I'd heard that years ago, I'd have a bigger library- are incredibly simple, but since we've all gotten to the point where simple is difficult, it really hits home.

3-0 out of 5 stars WHY MARRIAGES SUCCEED OR FAIL: AND HOW YOU CAN MAKE YOURS LAST
Not as useful as his later work

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as well written as the companion book by the author
This book is very similar to "The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work : A Practical Guide from the Country's Foremost Relationship Expert".It almost seems like a first draft of the other book. Not as well organized or clearly written. It is a very good book, but I would recommend "The Seven Principles" over this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites
This is one of my favorite relationship books. It really focuses on communication, and gives you real guidance on what to do, and what to watch out for, in your communication with your spouse.I asked my husband to read it after I had, and he very grudgingly accepted.Once he started reading it, however, he was quite impressed, and had many highlighters and sticky notes on his favorite parts.I highly recommend. Also, I suggest this over his "Seven Principles" book which I have also read. This seems more to be the real deal, and the "Seven Principles" more of a spin off. ... A true introductory book on Control Engineering
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This book helped me a lot while I was studing Control Theory at college. It has very clear examples and it is well written.

4-0 out of 5 stars For whom want to master the subject!
This text is not just thorough in its covered material. It covers more material than all other undergrad. level control texts I've ever seen. It treats thoroughly both state-space and the transform approaches which makes this text somehow unique. The text opens your eyes to the P,PI,PD and PID controllers in the very beginning which is thrilling for first time control students. As a matter of fact, the text is more focused on mechanical engineers interests than those of the electrical engineers. I consider the concept itself neutral :) which ECS/EE majors might share with ME(s).

My husband came home with this book last week.I am considering buying a business of great interest to me, but I have next to no experience with retail. He has his doubts about the whole "dummies" series, but thought maybe it would help me.We both found the text to be vague, as I was looking for concrete definitions to some of the unfamiliar business terms which the book did not provide. At the same time, the suggestions for running a small business were ridiculously obvious and downright condescending. The book went back to the store, and I ordered a copy of Specialty Shop Retailing (How To Run Your Own Store) by Carol L Schroeder from my local library.I would HIGHLY recommend this book, and once I finish reading entirely I'll take the time to provide a thorough review. But really, the book has a great layout and it's enjoyable reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Small Biz Bible
This book has been very useful. The author gives practical tips, advice, checklists and forms - all in an easy to read format. He makes things that seem overwhelming at first suddenly seem manageable. The CD ROM saved me a bundle in legal fees.He seems to know what it is like to have been in the trenches.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent book but not for my cause
I was toying with the idea of creating an online based business selling educational material and decided to buy this book because I wanted to learn the specifics of running a homebased business.I was searching for facts about taxation, how to get a business liscense, and a directory to web resources. These were in here but with such little detail. Also the book does not tackle small business management like I thought. It explained how to set up a larger business with a board of directors and examples of balance sheets working with millions of dollars in transactions.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a book!
I think this book is a must have for people who find themselves thinking about the future too much or may be 'lost' in their past. It helps give a better understanding of why it is important to live in the present and appreciate life on a day-to-day basis! I recommend this book as a great read and plan to give it as a gift to most of my friends!
5-0 out of 5 stars "Get" the precious present Chad
I completely disagree with Chad, I understand where you are coming from but I think you completely missed the point.I like this book because it tells you to move forward, to focus on what you are doing today because if you live today to the fullest then tomorrow when you look at your past you'll have no regrets. It says to enjoy the things that you have today rather than to ponder on the things that you do not have or may have had in the past. It also says not to live in the future because the future is not here yet, this should not be taken as a call to living on a whim but rather to live your today and take care of all that you need to today because that will make your tomorrow.Give it another try Chad, the person that spent 18.00 on it really cares about you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn about the here and now
As a parent, I read this book to my children from grade school through high school. The Precious Present and Hope for the Flowers by Trina Paulus ranked highest in my rituals of reading what I thoght was important. The Precious Present states simply that which many seem to lose sight of in the midst of a time which is wrought with demands and distractions. As a consultant, I read or referenced this book to clients to aid them in understanding the importance of being where they are at instead of worrying about the future or regretting the past. The book was always received well.Albeit the range could be wide - from just stopping to ponder the idea to big aha's of getting how powerful the here and now can be and therefore making whatever the best decision with the resources available. It's all we have, this present moment. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must-understand" for leaders concerned with long-term prosperity
Many thanks to Vijay Govindarajan (VG) and Chris Trimble for this grand exposition of ideas first shared in the Spring 2005 California Management Review and the May 2005 Harvard Business Review.VG and Trimble's "Forget, Borrow, Learn" framework is the most powerful recipe for corporate reinvention that I have encountered.
5-0 out of 5 stars Raising Tigers
In Nature it is rare for one species to successfully rear the young of another species. The difficulties, for example, of a tiger cub being raised by a herd of elephants are easy to imagine. If the tiger isn't accidentally trampled underfoot while it is still too immature to look after itself, it is only a matter of time before some astute members of the elephant herd recognize they are raising a natural enemy, and trample it underfoot on purpose.
5-0 out of 5 stars How to start a new business structure inside an established success
Even the most successful business eventually hits a growth ceiling which can lead to stagnation and new industry emergence: but most businesses can use their profitable platform to make changes with a little extra innovation, which is explored in Vijay Govindarajan & Chris Trimble's TEN RULES FOR STRATEGIC INNOVATORS: FROM IDEA TO EXECUTION. Start a new business structure inside a large, established company structure with the rules here: they are accompanied by industry profiles of companies which have successful made such changes, and pro
