4-0 out of 5 stars It Has Worked So Far....
While I am only a high school Sophmore, and I don't have a *real* job, this book has been very helpful in deciding what to shoot for doing. I've heard people call this book too vague, but they can't tell you exactly what to do; it doesn't work that way. Once you get through the personality quiz portion, the author gives a somewhat detailed description of your specific personality type (I for example am and ENFP) and throws in suggestions in the description and also give a modest list of other possibilities. I'll admit it was a bit vauger than I had hoped but it gives you plenty of room to move around and a great place to start.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This book has helped me choose a drastic career change I was almost afraid to reach for ten years ago.Since then, I've bought the book numerous times as gifts for friends who then share it with others. It's simple to use and relevant each time I go back to it.Whether you are looking for a career change or to better understand how to position yourself where you are, this book is extremely helpful in helping you realize your strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes more clearly and based on that, how to find a fit in almost every situation. The author's other books are insightful too for relationships and advising your children.

2-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps I had overly high expectations...
While I am aware that no career book is going to be a holy grail, this one in particular seemed rather useless. "You are an INFP. You feel fulfilled by helping people, so go find a job where you can do that" was pretty much the extent of the advice it offered. ... Read more

Editorial Review

"Learning the game of power requires a certain way of looking at the world, a shifting of perspective," writes Robert Greene. Mastery of one's emotions and the arts of deception and indirection are, he goes on to assert, essential. The 48 laws outlined in this book "have a simple premise: certain actions always increase one's power ... while others decrease it and even ruin us."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Nuclear Weapon for the Modern Warrior
This book is LOADED with wisdom. The lessons you will learn here can help you to take your life to the next level and then the level beyond that one.Study this book and its Laws, and do not be afraid or too timid to adopt their teachings into your everyday experiences -- they will help you to get ahead, to get what you want, and to reach your goals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific synopsis of the classic historical writings on power.
This book is a no holds barred open discussion of raw power, entertainingly presented. It took me a little while to get over the almost completely amoral tone of the book, but I eventually got the sense that the amoral tone is there for a purpose: to clue you in to the fact that people who practice power at this level can often be completely amoral themselves. In that sense, the book truly gives the reader a sense of the mindset of those who will do anything to stay in power. There is a sense as one reviewer pointed out, that the book could have been written without this amoral tone, but then one would miss out on the opportunity of being immersed in its sense of amorality, which is an education in itself.Experiencing the amorality is a wakeup call that offers insight into how some of the world's ills have come to pass, though you may find yourself wanting to shower afterward. After reading it, you will definitely be more aware of the laws being played out on the world stage, and you will begin to recognize people in government who seem to be using it as a playbook. Some laws are even applicable in personal relationships...a scary thought.
3-0 out of 5 stars Another product of the imagination
If you have wild dreams of pontifical success.Illusions of grandeur and great lusts for power, then this book may feed your ego.It may even make you feel real good about yourself.Knowing all these secrets of power. But alas, it is only a fantasy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good read. Leaves out lots of the details.
I like the overall point of this book. I also agree with a lot of the stuff he teaches in regards to using real estate and owning your own business as the only true way to get superb rates of returns. However, he does make one huge assumption in the real estate section that is not clear: that you can rent a house for the same cost as your expenses. This may work in some cheaper areas, but in the places where houses have skyrocketed in price, expecting to get a high enough rent to cover all the fees is not realistic for some major areas. Also, he makes it sound like getting 150k is easy for a salary. Unfortunately for those of us in stable "normal" fields like engineering, nursing, accounting, etc... asking for a 30% raise would get you a lot of laughs at best. Nonetheless, I would still recommend it to other new grads.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not magical but worth reading in the end
Masterson has written a book that could serve as a practical and seemingly well-intentioned guide to the process of building a fortune for the budding (and even not-so budding) careerist. I am not a financial specialist so I will not pretend to be able to assess the soundness of his financial ideas. I can tell you this however: since buying the book I have become thriftier, less idealistic when it comes to matters of money, and at the same time more financially ambitious - and with a plan. All this has not come at the cost of reducing the quality of my life, but on the contrary, I feel that my life has been enhanced in the last two weeks from reading this book as well as "Richest Man in Babylon". These changes came from small pieces of advice from Masterson's book rather than the larger ideas and plans. I am still sceptical of his views on real estate and stock market investment.Be warned that the book is a bit fluffy and sometimes you will have to read through a lot before getting substantial ideas and during those times you will not have the benefit of reading particularly engaging prose, so be patient, you will likely find that the wait was worthwhile.
2-0 out of 5 stars 60% Filler, 35% Anecdotal, 5% Worthwhile Information
When I first bought it for myself and skimmed the first few pages, I was very excited about the book and thought that it would be a worthwhile read. As I kept reading, though, it became increasingly apparent that this guy was just trying to sell copies of his book, and didn't have much worthwhile information to say.He constantly repeats that he is showing you how to "get rich" without providing any substantive advice. He repeats lists that have little or no value, including things like "Work Hard" over and over again.

3-0 out of 5 stars My complaints for local hairstylists
For what the book taught hairstylists about cuts for round, and squared faces are totally wrong. If thte hair has to be styled to lift off the forehead, and come forward: All the hairstylists would do is leave bangs to the side of the client's face.Round faces should not have hair on top of hteir head. That is to crop up a spiky hairdo. To place some hair over the ears and cheeks is to make bangs on the side of the client's face.I have no idea what the editor meant by "keep the hair up on one side."I don't think round, and squared faces should have bangs at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have to take state boards this is the book you will need
This book makes certain that you have a good understanding of the material before you take your state boards and this is very important. You probably will not have the same questions on the test, or they may be phrased differently: but the book definatly covers each chapter well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Detailed
When I was taking Cosmetology back in the 2000-01 school year, they recommended to purchase this version of Milady's Standard Textbook of Cosmetology. They were only available new in Canada and cost [money], and came with the theory book as well. Our teacher also had the old 1996 version of this textbook for sale, used. However, this is a better purchase. There are more pictures and colors, its not as drab as the previous version. I have to disagree with reviewers who said this is not a detailed book, I found it to be quite detailed and informative in its information. The book meant to be used in a classroom setting, where an instructor teachers and elaborates from this book. You cannot read this book and automatically cut hair, that is where the practical aspect of cosmetology comes in, when you are doing it hands on instead of reading. But this is a helpful tool for aspiring apprentices or students in cosmetology, whether you want to learn about Coloring, Perms, whatever the case, this is definately a worthwhile tool to have. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for teens, adults and parents!
Dr. Grandin has taken her knowledge, expertise and sensitivity one step further in Developing Talents: Careers for Individuals with Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism. She offers many ideas for those affected by or those working with these individuals. This area is filled with people of talent who are underemployed. An example of one of the suggestions offered - an individual who is interested in cartoons and spends their days drawing - all day - being encouraged to go to a museum of cartooning, learning about different kinds of cartoons, the history of cartoons which expands their interest - meeting others with the same interest. It is not enough to have a talent or the intellectual ability to understand complex things. Without work, Dr. Grandin explains, her life would not have had order, content or meaning. She covers many different kinds of jobs that people on the autism spectrum can accommodate to and ones that would be more difficult for them. The book is well thought out and because Dr. Grandin is herself on the spectrum and spends so much of her time speaking to others at her many presentations she has analyzed a great deal of what works and what does not. This book is an absolute must read! I run a large group for parents, professionals and individuals and it is one of my first recommendations. This book gives concrete suggestions and hope.

4-0 out of 5 stars As a parent of an Asperger teen, this book was confirming and enlightening
As a parent of a teenager with Aspergers, alot of Ms. Gradin's recommendations confirmed what I already thought: sell the skills not the personality, go into areas where your interests/fixations lie and consider working as a consultant in your area of expertise.Finding recommendations I already thought of didn't make me feel like those parts of the book were a waste. On the contrary, it is nice to have affirmation from an outside source, particularly one intimately knowledgable of autism.
4-0 out of 5 stars Ways to use special interests for people with ASD/AS!
I have read all three of Temple Grandin's books. Each offers a different look at what it is like to experience Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). In "Developing Talents" Grandin provides the readers with insight into how parents and educators can assist people with High Functioning Autism/Asperger Syndrome (HFA/AS)achieve success. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!
This great book should be on the desk of every stressed out business executive. It brilliantly describes what it takes to be in a peak state of mind when you need to be.There is no question that business people as wellas everyone should train their bodies to get their minds in top shape.Thisbook illustrates that with great information about diet, exercise, and properattitude.A wise investment.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lacking new Insight to an age-old problem
I waited in anticipation for this book to arrive. Much hype had been made about this new research and the 21 day plan.Business men and women stuggle to balance work and home-life, and the foundation of this book isright on. If we loose weight, drink more water and exercise we will havemore energy for both. The problem with this book is that it says verylittle more.I found myself brousing through the book looking for newideas to give me some boost. The book does have some excellent chapters onhow to deal with stress in the work place. In fact, this book is worthbuying just for these two chapters. However, for those of us who read selfhelp books on a daily basis, you might be looking for more.

5-0 out of 5 stars At the Top of Your Game
Finally - a book that delivers on its promise to help you get to the top of your game, to help you achieve maximal performance levels in life - and does so using a common sense approach that integrates experience, study andscience with focus and commitment. The key is training like an athletewhether its following an exercise or nutrition program or developing apositive attitude. What a refreshingly realistic concept in this "apill a day takes the fat away" world!Through Dr. Groppel'sconvincing clarity, it all makes perfect sense. And you don't have to bein the business arena to benefit from the principles of THE CORPORATEATHLETE.Maximizing performance can be a goal that crosses age, gender andoccupational or vocational boundaries. But what makes this book stand outfor me is Dr. Groppel's holistic approach - completing the palate offitness by incorporating the physical, mental and emotional with thespiritual. It takes courage to take spirituality out of its politicallycorrect closet and plop it onto the Board Room table, to make it a keycomponent of performance enhancement.Could it be that the growth ofcourage, confidence, conviction and character is a natural end product ofone's development into the ultimate corporate athlete? I am convinced, after reading the book, that this is the case. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Overview, technique and implementation
An outstandingly well written book that decribes the balanced scorecard and provides excellent examples. An effective, practical guide for C-level executives and mid-level managers for implementing strategic scorcarding. I recommned this book for the breadth and depth of the explanation of the subject matter and concise implmentation examples.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you can measure it, you can manage it
The Balanced Scorecard was initially designed as a financial and non-financial corporate performance measurement tool.Organizations focused on strategy have taken the Balanced Scorecard and transformed it into a strategic tool for measurement. These 5 key principles transform the Balanced Scorecard:
5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!
The fact that executives keep trying new strategic initiatives despite their abysmal rate of failure is, like second marriages, a triumph of hope over experience. Or, it may indicate just how much pressure top managers face to improve their profits. By one estimate, nine out of ten companies fail to execute their strategic visions. Yet, CEOs - who witness a world in constant flux - continue to introduce change initiatives. Are they trapped in the operational definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? Or, are they just ready for this book? Authors Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton offer wise counsel to help executives break the cycle of strategic flops. They advise executives to transform their companies into "Strategy-Focused Organizations" using the "Balanced Scorecard" and "strategic mapping" tools. With these initiatives, CEOs can ensure that every employee pays attention to strategy implementation. Kaplan and Norton, the all-star co-author team who wrote "The Balanced Scorecard" and "Strategy Maps", have done it again, in this well-organized but somewhat dry volume. We strongly recommend this book to any manager who is responsible for designing or implementing a strategic change initiative. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the EFFORT!
I purchased this book a few years ago and browsed through it thinking, "Wow, great stuff!" But I never bothered to do the exercises at the end of each chapter (too much effort) and never finished more than a few chapters. Unpacking boxes after a recent move, I rediscovered the book and decided to give it another 'go'.

To achieve great financial success, you must dream big. Big dream bring big money. Small dream big small money. As simple as that. Are you dreaming big everyday?
4-0 out of 5 stars Author Strikes Familiar Cord
Dreaming the impossible dream is a favorite American pastime. Most of us never get any farther than merely dreaming. With the help of this book, we can discover what the author calls the "keys" to turning dreams into reality. He says these come from studying successful people. They seem simple enough, but taking the steps is always the difficult part. Steven Scott doesn't just give the reader the steps to take, he shows them how to do it. That's the hard part. Anybody can tell you what to do, it's making you do them that takes real motivation.

Editorial Review

Ever since his first book was published some six decades ago, Peter Drucker has been essential to everyone serious about the "management of an enterprise (and) the self-management of the individual, whether executive or professional, within an enterprise and altogether in our society of managed organizations." This distinguished 30-year Claremont University professor has continuously identified critical principles in management, economics, politics, and the world in general. 3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite timeless
Good book, contains a lot of useful advice, which is "timeless".
5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT SOURCE FOR ENTREPRENUERS
This book is by far one of those that should be on the 'must read' list for any future entrepreneurs. The compiliation of the management concepts summarizes the major points of his more popular books in one single volume.
5-0 out of 5 stars A good condensed Drucker reader
Peter Drucker has written a whole lot of books and a whole many articles onbusiness management. For the past 60+ years, his writings have helped managers understand how to operate and run a business "effectively" for the short and long term. But, it would be impossible for most practicing managers to read all of these books and articles to understand Peter Drucker's advice. This book tries to condense his essential advice into digestible bits that can be quickly read when and where you have time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Think and Become Great
Many life coaches and business gurus use most of what Napoleon Hill learned over 50 years ago.Anthony Robbins has built most of his core philosophy on Mr. Hill's teachings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some Useful Information---Worth Reading!
Napoleon Hill devoted 20 years of his life to researching and writing this book. It's about how to "make money" but the ideas seem to me to pertain also to "how to feel successful" even if you don't make millions of dollars.Much of the book is "I already knew that" information. But, it never hurts to be reminded of things you may know but are not putting into practice. And, there are some other ideas that are quite "original" such as the chapter on "The Transmutation of Sexuality".I recommend this book highly.Email: Boland7214@aol.

5-0 out of 5 stars Among my first batch of books...greatest influence on attaining personal achievement in life!
The first batch of significant books that had the greatest influence on me in terms of attaining personal achievement includes mostly Napoleon Hill's books:
5-0 out of 5 stars The Distilled Power Of Thinking And Growing Rich...
Sure, this is a wonderful starter kit (yes, I do have this book...) in addition to Hill's other books like "Think and Grow Rich", "The Master Key To Riches", et al. But more than that, it is a primer that makes you hungry for the mental nourishment of his full "Law Of Success" which I have just ordered through Amazon. And why am I giving this distillation five stars? C'mon, isn't it obvious, through these *distilled* principles you get a pretty good taste of the "spirit-voice" of Napoleon Hill. And when he says in later versions of "Think and Grow Rich" - 'through these pages we have met'. You know what he means here, even though it is shortened and edited. So, I've said enough, get started, happy reading.

3-0 out of 5 stars Both Honest, and Dishonest, Just Like the Magic Kingdom
I can't give this book a one because it does summarize Disney's business morals well, BUT, it leaves out what is obvious, it's lack of respect for God. Disney, as this book shows, relies on pleasing the customer, not God. It's also helpful in that it does give business advice, although not totally.
4-0 out of 5 stars Seven Keys to Success
This is a fun book, easy to read, great ideas to make your business more successful and customer friendly.I would recommend it highly and it is a great tool for a staff training or retreat.
