Pretty mediocre
This book wobbles between weak attempts at humor, brief examples of Idiot Bosses which aren't used to demonstrate any points, and inane advice on how to get along with "idiot" bosses.The author doesn't succeed in any of these areas.

It keeps hitting the nail on the head; so much written is so true and on top of you constantly nodding your head in agreement, you'll be laughing out loud; you'll enjoy it--whether you are an idiot or not!

More common than you think ... when the adrenaline of chasing success stops working
There are countless examples of people who have worked and slaved for years in a tunnel vision quest to be top dog ... only to get there and after a while just walk out of a life they once desired like nothing else. Sometimes they say a change of heart did it ... but the psychology of success and the constant demand and expectations of others over time tips the scales to a real fear of failure. Many people prefer to go out with a bang than to fade away a has-been. An intriguing look that begs the question if success really does make one happy.

When I thought I just had it
When I started reading the first few chapters, it was like the author was speaking directly to me, knowing what goes on inside my head. Actually, he even made me realize some things I never did myself. The only thing that hurt about this book is the author's writing style and his habit of using superfluous words. I mean when you have to run to a dictionary and back ten times in one chapter, it takes your mind off from the topic. The book is good if you want to understand the problem, but there aren't any real remedies inside this book. Until the very end, we were still discussing the problem and not the cure. Even in the last two chapters there are just more details about the problem yet no actual remedies.
An exceptional read - insightful, clear, and well-written
Dr. Berglas has written an exceptional book that I would recommend to those who are facing workplace issues such as burnout and "Isn't there more than this?" questioning.While I believe his research is relevant for all audiences - I would highly recommend it for people in large corporate settings -as well as those in supervisory roles.Personally, I picked up the book hoping to find some answers regarding the "dead ends" and the boredom I was starting to feel at my corporate job - and I found Dr. Berglas' book to be insightful and solutions-oriented for people like me...While the book is well-researched and deals with complex issues, it is clear and concise and should be easily understandable for all audiences to grasp...If this book is calling out to you for some reason, I highly recommend you read it. ... Absolutely fantastic

This is destined to be a classic management text
This is destined to become one of the classic management texts. I found the authors treatement of the subject matter to be insightful and well thought out. This is a must for any person of color who is wondering whyit's taking them so long to move into the executive level.As a trainer Iwill be using this as one of my texts, and I plan on sending a number ofcopies to my friends.

Enjoyed it
I just finished reading Breaking Through and learned quite a bit. Recommend it to you. I wish the subject of leadership, and how to properly use it to get results on the job, was addressed more.I recommend you alsoget a copy of another book that addresses this issue and is very applicableto the subject of minorities as leaders:"The Leader's Guide: 15Essential Skills." Great book!!!

The Rodney King guide to the Workplace
This book is really great;I call it the Rodney King guide to the workplace because it really is about "Can't we all just get along?"And, if we can't....then it gives you the guidelines to follow to see heads roll, or sometimes, how to choose to lose your own head on the chopping block.

The best book on the market for how to dress in 2006.
The book is probably the best book on the market for how to dress in 2006.I purchased this book to compete with the younger business crowd in interviews.I find it exceptional on style representation of how men dress.It does not emphasis the uniform of an office.It lacks empahsis on the male tendancey to expect everyone to show involvement by dressing alike.I call this the socially conditioning of men to follow a uniform dress code.I suspect this comes from all the socializing in sports acitivites.It is both a signals of member of your team and the oposing team.How you dress in work especially corporate America has major implications on how you are viewed in your work place.I suggest adjusting your style to each circumstance:work, play, social life to give the best impression

I liked this book because it gave a good strategy for identifying what elements you already own, prior to buying new clothes.

Very basic advice
If you know nothing about dressing yourself, this book is targeted at you. There's some good advice here, but some questionable advice as well, and some of the advice is already dated -- the monochrome tie/shirt combo went out with Regis' millionaire show. A much better book is Flusser's "Dressing the Man." And if you want a really good book on elegant living, try Bernhard Roetzel's "Gentleman's Guide to Grooming and Style." ... Read more

Practical and Useful
I'm the Training Coordinator at a manufacturing facility with 200 hourly employees whom we are trying to get more involved in a team-based work system. This book has given me so much PRACTICAL information on the how's and why's of doing this! I'm actually able to relate this information to our employees in a way that it clearly shows the benefits TO THEM of working in teams. Too many of these so-called "Team Building" books are filled with silly exercises that do nothing in the long run. If you want something practical and useful, I recomment this book!

Crystal Reports: A Beginner's Guide Review
I am coming from a VBA background learning about this new software. This book is a great resource tool for making such a transition. Mr. McAmis stepped me through the learning process in a clear and concise manner. The information was learned in progressive manner, in that, the further through the book I read, the more complex issues were handled. At the end each chapter the author challenged me with key questions to help me remember the most important issues.

Not What I Wanted or Expected
I'm afraid I have to agree with the review from "A reader from Cupertino, CA" - I, too, am on Chapter 4 and am frustrated beyond belief because my reports look very little like the examples in the book so far.In the case of the second tutorial in chapter 4, again the other reviewer is correct - it's not even the same report! The most detailed 'change management' book yet.
Change management as a concept is relatively new, for these reasons it has been relatively tough finding a complete guide. This book by esther cameron is that guide. Overflowing with information on organisational change, public relations techniques and issues and crisis management. It is the only book you will ever need to manage change.

Big book of Lousy Ideas
This was a complete waste of money!The ideas were stale and elementary.Do not waste your money or your time flipping through it.

A few nuggets
I ordered this one with Brian Miller's Quick Teambuilding Activities for busy Managers (which is excellent).I was disappointed by this one.So many of the activities were overly simplistic.Several werent what I would even call activities, but rather "facilitated discussions."I only found a few worth trying.I rely on the other book much more.
