4-0 out of 5 stars A Timely Cure for Affilate Marketers with TOS
From working with Affiliate Marketers I've found they're particularly prone to Task Overload Syndrome - those non-ending tasks which come with running a gazillion affiliate web sites.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book written by someone who was a poor time manager
Many of the books about managing time seem to be written by systematic organized people who share their techniques, and the assumption is that you too can manage time if you follow their methods.1-0 out of 5 stars This is how to do things the hard way - says author

3-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile reading
This was a very interesting approach to simplifying one's life. There were a few concepts I'll be able to incorporate into my own life, but I found most of it to be good in theory and not very adaptable to my personal situation and lifestyle.
3-0 out of 5 stars Useful tool in time management; not technology management
Winston's plan helps people deal with a growing list of priorities and an inflexible time frame. She does not address the glut of technology- related information that overwhelms people today or fundamental issues regarding directions and use of office and household technology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for the Narrow-Minded
Your ego and identity may well demand that you put this book down for good and denounce it as the smug ramblings of a limousine liberal with the luxury to indulge in all manner of fantasy.Read on anyway. If you pay attention to this book, you'll learn something powerful about yourself and the criticality of your role in creating your organization however you define that - whether it's self, family, business, government unit, or even society at large.

1-0 out of 5 stars I RETURNED this book
This book is terrible. The lists are disappointingly incomplete and inconsequential. For example:

Count me as someone who longs to be efficient and organized, but who hasn't quite got the hang of it.Along came Kirsten Lagatree with roadmaps for dozens of real life events, and now, even though I'm not necessarily more organized, I am more prepared to deal with travel needs, house issues and even disasters.Frankly, I hope I never have to deal with much of what she covers in this book, but I'm thrilled that she has taken the time to share this info with us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't wait more than 30 seconds to buy this book!
This book should be read by everyone!Whether you are a salesperson, a public speaker, or anyone that wants to communicate more effectively, this book will help you do it.Written in a breezy, interesting style, the author gives great suggestions on how to make a presentation effectively. It is a short book, by design. My only regret about this book is that I was unaware of its existence until a month ago.
4-0 out of 5 stars Agood little book about the art of communication
What sort of person do you really hate to engage in conversation? For me, it's somebody who doesn't know when to stop speaking.
1-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes 30 Seconds Is An Eternity
The most interesting thing about this book is that the author feels no pressure to legitimize his assertion that there is something special about 30 seconds. Because his background is in the field of television entertainment, (never to be confused with communications), he finds significance in the length of television commercials, which frequently run 30 seconds. That this is done for financial reasons, not attention-span reasons, has evaded him completely. HTGYPAI3SOL is just another in the endless chain of How To books penned by individuals struggling with delusions of expertise, whose only skill is self-promotion, that package the obvious and resell it to the gullible. Readers who find anything in this slim and overpriced tome even remotely surprising or counter-intuitive are advised to probe deeper into the self-help section of the bookstore for volumes on Shoe-Tying For Beginners, The ABCs Of Writing Your Name, and Gravity - It's Not Just A Good Idea, It's The Law. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars could have been titled "how to be a better leader"
A must read for anyone who wants to get somewhere in life. Are you someone who just goes with the flow and then wonders why you're not getting where you want to be, or not getting there quick enough? Are you unhappy with the deck you are being dealt at work, or the path your career is taking? Are you trying to lead a company and you have nothing but headaches during your working day? If you answer "yes" to any one of these questions, then read this book. It's a very well written book on time management.

5-0 out of 5 stars A word from the author
Dear Frazzled, Time-Pressed, Never-Have-an-Extra-Second Reader,
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally managing my time wisely!
I was pleasantly surprised. At first I thought this was going to be a too light treatment to a topic that's important to me.Even though the author does take a humorous approach, I guess the whole series of idiot's guides takes a humorous approach, nevertheless, I found the tips to be hard hitting and practical. If I had this earlier in my career I might have saved a whole lot of time on stuff that for all practical purposes was a waste of time.
1-0 out of 5 stars returned it - preaches deceit; more fluff than substance
The author's target audience seems to be salaried employees working unpaid overtime, who are overweight, out of shape, watch too much TV and get too little sleep. His solution to the unpaid overtime is to lie to your employer and coworkers about how much you work at home, use oversized containers to take work home so it looks like more, schedule outside appointments late in the dy so you can just go home, etc. A lot of the book is aimed at helping people take better care of themselves and get their priorities in order, which I applaud. But that isn't what I was looking for in a time management book. I was looking for practical strategies for organizing my work and time, which it is thin on. It has some, and there are some very good ideas in there, but not really much more than a good magazine article. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Liberate your Heart, Body, Mind, and Soul
If only I could have started my life with the wisdom in this magnificent book!
4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read!
The best and most useful part of this book comes near the end, where author Michael J. Gelb gets down to basics and offers instructions on how to juggle. The first part of the book consists of a series of exhortations and homilies about the advisability of relaxing, letting yourself make mistakes, practicing to be perfect and other personal attitude guidance. Those who thirst for such encouragement will find the first part of this book a godsend. It includes quotations from Lao Tse, Vince Lombardi and Leonardo da Vinci. All of the advice is highly meritorious, even the advice that you ought to take a break or two every day to juggle. That looks like fun whether you favor New Age nostrums or not. We recommend this book to anyone who must multi-task. Even if juggling doesn't smooth out your work life, at least it will help you relax.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Inspired!
Every time I read one of Michael's books, I feel inspired for greatness, and this book is no exception. Michael has a gift of taking things that are familiar and looking at and applying them in unique ways. In this book, Michael talks about the importance of creating mistakes in a safe environment and using them to accelerate learning to become a better leader, coach, parent, or person. He makes it feel safe to venture out into new territory by teaching that success means pursuing your goals and dreams with much childlike passion that success and failure become irrelevant. I especially love how he frames examples throughout the book with expert quotes that provide meaningful and often thought-provoking context. The quote by Dr. Glenn Doman, Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential, provoked a great family discussion about how important it is for a child to view learning as fun and the positive impact a person can have to help inspire that belief. In the last section of the book, Michael takes a unique approach to teaching juggling, in which he applies all the principles in the book. I never would have thought that dropping balls on purpose would help me learn to juggle, but it did. And it gave me a new confidence that I can do anything! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than expected - Fully recommend
I was a little hesitant about purchasing this book.I feared it would be one more fluffy time management book. But Mr Kahle has clearly walked the salesmans walk which lends great crediblity.I found his point of view and suggestions to be refreshingly candid and hands-on.One of my favorite passages in the book reads:
5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful tool for a Sales Manager
I bought the book to gain knowledge to help my sales team be more effective.I was very pleased with the book overall and learned some good tips to help educate my reps.I would recommend this book to any Sale Manager or Salesperson who wants to be more productive with the limited hours we have in each day.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read!
Dave Kahle adapts many now common time management processes for the specific use of salespeople in the field. His underlying assumption is that it is much more difficult for outside salespeople to apply the usual techniques, since their lives are so filled with uncertainty. Plus salespeople tend to be action-oriented, so they don't commonly want to spend time planning or setting up systems. But, Kahle argues, such organization is critical to success in sales. While Kahle claims that most time management principles and tactics "totally miss the unique challenges of the field salesperson," the material he covers in the book sounds very familiar. It echoes many other books about goal setting, problem solving, decision making and effective selling. We find that while this may be a helpful review of fairly common material in the guise of time management, the information is hardly unique - although its focus on salespeople's needs may give it additional value for them. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This is a very insightful book and one that is unlike most others that I've encountered. The author maintains that the typical person in our society today is in a super-rush because of forces that uniformly impact us all. He then proceeds to lay out in a very logical fashion how to counter-act these forces and take control of your day as well as the spaces in your life, like your desk, your car, your closets, and so on, so that you're in control more of the time. I particularly like the sections called "Fresh Air" which are bulleted points offering innovative ideas for getting back in charge of your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Overcome stress
This book is nothing short of a sensational. It is one of the most forward-thinking texts I've encountered in quite a while. Starting with the premise that an over-populated world creates more information and communication than the typical person can keep up with---more media, more paper, and more choices---you begin to gain a sense of why each day feels as if there's too much to do, too much to know, too much to keep on top of. With this book, you gain a perspective that enables you to approach your day, your week, your month and so on in a more common and reasoned fashion. Some of the tips in the middle and latter chapters I have seen in otherbooks, but in this context they seem to work particularly well. I like theauthor's approach in giving out the tips based on hand tools, power tools, and cerebral tools. If you are experiencing increasing time pressure or stress, this is the book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy read, VERY helpful!
"Breathing Space" is a wonderful concept and is laid out nicely by the author in this easy-to-read book. It's only about 210 pages but mercifully, most pages don't contain a lot of text. So it's easy on the eyes, and easy on the mind. I agree whole-heartedly with the author's premise that the pace of life has sped up because of what he calls "macro-realities," a sort of mega-trends that are here now and continue to impact every element of our lives. Buy this book for yourself and for people you care about. It'll give you insights and perspectives that are unique and vital. More important, you'll have a broad-base understanding as to why we all seem to be in such a hurry all the time, and have a real good chance of getting past this trap. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Now that Elaine St. James has helped readers simplify their homes, closets, and holidays, she shares her expert advice on simplifying the workplace. St. James points out that most of the conveniences Americans rely upon to make work easier--such as fax machines, e-mail, and cell phones--really make it "easier to do more work" at any time of day or night. As a result, the 40-hour workweek is a distant memory. "American workers could learn a lot from the European workplace," she writes. "In most European countries, the 32 hour work week is mandated by law."Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Geared toward executive professions
When the author states she feels "healthy, wealthy, happy and fantastic," it is obvious that the assumption here is that there are plenty of funds to cover the basic necessities -- food, shelter, and medical care at her house.
5-0 out of 5 stars Some New Ideas
This book has enough "new" ideas and presents them in an excellent fashion, so it warrants a five-star rating. It is a quick read and easy to incorporate immediately.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some great ideas, but a little biased
Everyone working in America today should read "Simplify Your Work Life."People in the U.S. work way too much--and for what?Work is important, but it shouldn't be the only thing you do with your life.Elaine St. James offers simple suggestions to eliminate unnecessary work and stress from our lives. It's sad that our culture today thinks that people who work under 40 hours a week are "lazy".St. James tells us this is not true, and we can get as much work done working under 40 hours a week as working 60 hours a week, if only we learned how to manage our time better.People can get overwhelmed with our modern work society (with email, faxes, internet, etc.), but St. James says it doesn't have to be this way.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tiny book with a huge content
This amazing little book talks about some of the most important aspects of a full existence: the awareness of the passing time and methods of utilizing it to one's unique advantage. It lays out a structure to a possible way of filling one's time, and points to the obstacles and dangers lying in this execution.
5-0 out of 5 stars A delight to read, and read again, (and again)
Rare is the book that stands the test of time.Rarer still is the book that can be read multiple times and still be engaging. This is decidedly one of those books. Each time I pull it off the shelf, I find once again how current it is, how useful, and also entertaining.Bennett is a pleasure to read and very insightful.I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. You can find a short write-up on this and other related books of his online at Wikipedia.
5-0 out of 5 stars When it comes to self-help books, quality dilutes with time
With the advent of the Industrial Revolution first in England and then quickly following in America, more and more of the workforce transitioned into what we call white-collar jobs, where the workplace was outside and often far from the home. Because these new jobs more reflected our modern 21st-century jobs, in which the work was tedious, repetitive and the ambiguous results not always readily apparent (as compared to building carriages, homes, and other work in which the fruits of our labor are real and immediately visible), it was harder for workers to take the kind of craftsman pride and ownership in their work as their fathers and grandfathers might have in older trades that were phased out or in the process. Mr. Bennett writes to this new class of salarymen, who are alive and well today and joined by their sisters, mothers and wives. He assumes that MOST employees cannot take much joy in work that is allotted to them during their eight hours of work per day (as opposed to owners who take joy in their work not necessarily because the work engages them, but because they know the profits flow directly into their bank accounts; good motivating force).
