4-0 out of 5 stars Learn to Recognize How You Undermine Yourself
This short (and relatively inexpensive) book will help you recognize where your behavior is getting in the way of your success at work.
3-0 out of 5 stars What your boss doesn't tell you book review
Not a lot new in this book. It focuses most on correcting really dysfunctional behavior, not on subtle defects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide to the Prevention of Self-Sabotage
Watching several people I admire repeatedly sabotage their careers by failing to recognize and fix the same recurring personality problems caused me to take a break from German-Jewish history and read this book. I have been an employer and an employee, both boss and bossed, and believe that we all can use a good (emphasize "good") self-help book now and then. This book enables the reader to pinpoint self-defeating behaviors and correct them, or at least control them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grad Student
This book is an excellent source for research. It is well written and easy to understand. I purchased the book from Amazon as a text for my Masters program. It was about $12 less than other sites. The book doesn't disappoint. Highly recommended for fans of leadership and organizational change. One of the best leadership books I have ever read.

3-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive overview of organizational mindsets and how they affect change
Without a doubt, this book is the authoritative source for applications of psychological motivations and group behavior analyses to how an organization views and reacts to change attempts. It also analyzes different change initiative styles and presents guidelines on how to see them through the eyes of each of the different frames.

Human factor and business5-0 out of 5 stars Finally--clear reasons about what works and what doesn't
When I read this book, I felt that I had been missing the obvious for a long time. The authors provide an explanation about why most of the changes in organizations don't work, whether they are Theory E or Theory O, and how you can combine the two for meaningful and effective results.Their work is based on lots of experience and for me they finally explained what the problem is--and what to do about it.As a change agent, this book gave me great new thinking with which to practice my craft.

5-0 out of 5 stars A thoughtful, no hype, solid content book
I have just finished reading this book and have been rewarded, as a "change" practitioner, this book adds real value in bringing the streams of change together. It is rare when I read a book on the subject and find it rewarding, enhancing what I do at the coal face. No, quick fix recipes but a thoughtful, well constructed set of ideas that do justice to this complex subject. I would reccomend this book to those who want to get beyond "listmania" and into some real thinking of what is involved in the dynamics of change. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an extraordinary resource for family business owners
Jane Hilburt-Davis and Gibb Dyer have made a significant contribution to the emerging field of family business consultation. They deliver good practical advice along with thoughtful insight about the pushes and pulls that families feel as their companies grow and thrive. In the short time I've owned this book I've had to move it closer and closer to the "most used" section on my book shelf.Clearly these authors do hands-on consultation everyday, know what they're doing, but have also thought about how to share their ideas with family business owners and other consultants. 4-0 out of 5 stars Simplistic praticality.
The focus here is on increased performance, follows a clearly defined objective with an equally clear road map on how to accomplish that objective. THE MANAGERIAL MOMENT OF TRUTH begins by explaining just what a managerial moment of truth is, and then introduces the acronym MMOT that is used throughout. MMOT is a process that includes identification that what was asked for of a workforce is not what was delivered and the resulting decision of what to do about it.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Book Which Resonates
Managerial Moment of Truth has made a great contribution to the literature and practice of performance management. I have worked in this field for 20 years and the process suggested by the authors is brilliant in it's simplicity and focus.
5-0 out of 5 stars The competitive advantage of truth telling
This is an excellent book that would benefit any manager or leader to read. It tackles the current hot topic of integrity and honesty in corporate life in a very practical and user-friendly way. The simple 'form' provided by Bodaken and Fritz not only provides a very accessible way for managers and leaders to dramatically improve the performance of their people, but also illustrates how to create a high performance organizational culture and leverage competitive advantage through people. The success of the Managerial Moment of Truth in the Blue Shield organization adds credibility and weight to the approach. I recommend this book to all leaders, managers and coaches. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SPARKS THINKING ON TOPIC OVERLOOKED IN ORGANIZATION CHANGE.
Explores the design of the physical workplace and the role this factor plays in improving productivity and operational effectiveness. Based on a four-year research project conducted by the MIT School of Architecture andPlanning's Space Planning and Organization Research Group, this bookintroduces the concept of Process Architecture, meaning engaging a widearray of stakeholders in rethinking the dynamic relationship between workprocesses and the spatial, technological, financial, and organizationalenvironments with which these processes occur. The authors provide acomprehensive explanation of the approach and framework with cases from thefield. For those concerned with organizational strategy and design, thiswork introduces a key aspect-the workplace-often overlooked in organizationchange initiatives. This is an thoughtful book with original thinking.Highly recommended. 5-0 out of 5 stars Sound advice for delivering speed, simplicity, and solutions
'Work-Out' is the famous organizational process that General Electric, the greatest industrial firm in the world, used to bust bureaucracy - fast.
5-0 out of 5 stars Packed Wiyh Knowledge!
There's no denying the effectiveness of the Work-Out system at General Electric (GE). This book is a straightforward and comprehensive introduction to what Work-Oout means and how it helped GE achieve such astonishing results under Jack Welch, who introduced it. This clear, well-organized book makes it possible for any executive or manager to apply at least some elements of the work-out program in any organizational context. We do caution you, however, that the Work-Out program as portrayed here demands a great deal of commitment and moral fortitude from leaders. Empowerment may be effective, but it is rarely comfortable for the powers that be. Just ask "Neutron Jack."

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Idea - Bad Book
I completely agree with the reader who said that this book could have been written much more effectively. It is nearly 400 pages and should have been no more than 25 to 50.Most issues or thoughts in this book while being solid are explained in far far too painful of detail with a great deal of redundancy. This made reading the book extremely wasteful of my time.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Captures the heart of institutional theory
Sociologists who are trying to understand the basic theoretical principles undergirding the neoinstitutional framework will find this book indispensable. As other reviewers have said, Powell and DiMaggio include some of the foundational pieces of the new institutionalism. In addition, they include several pieces that were seen as groundbreaking (or at least attempting to innovate neoinstitutional thought) at the time this book was published. For instance, papers by Powell and Friedland and Alford attempt to integrate notions of power and political interest into the otherwise top-down, culturally centered theory.5-0 out of 5 stars A useful introduction to neoinstitutional theory
Neoinstitutional theory has been one of the most influential approaches to sociology in the past 30 years. This book, which represents the "social constructionist" as opposed to the "ratoinal-choice" version of neoinstitutionalism, is useful because it pulls together some of the foundational articles in this field and also places them in context.

5-0 out of 5 stars TheRenaissance ofInstitutions
This collection of new and classic articles provides a thorough survey to the new institutionalism in Sociology. The introduction is a very broad ranging and exciting survey of recent writings in the social sciences on institutions. The chapters apply the ideas to a wide range of empirical settings from banks to universities. The book is a must have for researchers in organizational theory and management. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars After ReadingMany Diversity Books I Didn't Expect Much New
After reading so many diversity books, I wasn't expecting to get much more from this one.But I was pleasantly surprised. This book takes a more pragmatic approach to the topic than others. It is less esoteric and more of a how-to book with a very strong conceptual framework borrowed from the change management field.I actually liked reading it and have found it to be very helpful in my work as a diversity council chairperson.

1-0 out of 5 stars Come on!
Lets begin by analyzing the concept that this book is based upon: " Implementing Diversity". Who cares about diversity? Business is about getting the best people to perform. There is no color. No diversity. Nothing but performance! No performance, no business! It's books like this that give reading a bad name. My only question is how publishers can publish this garbage?

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Addition to My Loden Library!
Every five years it seems Marilynn Loden has a new book with something original and important to say in it.I loved Feminine Leadership (book #1) and am amazed at how relevant it remains today.Work Force America (#2)was also ahead of its time. And now Implementing Diversity (#3). 4-0 out of 5 stars A slick list of rules for ruling at the office
New or struggling managers will enjoy this practical, easy-to-read book of management tips, but experienced managers should take a look, too. Richard Templar writes in a "straight-from-the-cuff" style (no dry textbook terminology or dusty case studies here). He packs his manual with great, even if a bit obvious, lists of advice. We recommend this breezy, practical rulebook. To be a better manager, read it and ask yourself if you are still following the best practices. If you know what to do, are you doing it? If you don't know what to do, start reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone who has to manage people
Management is 50%.The other 50% is hard work and getting people to do what you need them to do.This bookd helped me to become a good manager even after 5 years of managing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical Guide to Successful Managment Behaviors
"The Rules of Management" is a practical guide to successful management behaviors. This would be a great book to use in conjunction with management text books at any business school or college. It goes beyond the typical description of management processes text book usually dish out and dispenses some logical, proven strategies to help managers succeed. This book does a good job of bridging "Leadership vs. Management" issues without actually making any discernment between the two. In fact, "The Rules of Leadership" would be a logical sequel to this series of books by Richard Templar. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Material, Could Have Been Better Written
The material here presented by Laurie Beth Jones is excellent and provides tremendous insight for personality studies.Unlike other personality profile models which possess types difficult to grasp and to inter-relate, this model provides the user with common elements which are easy to understand and simple to intertwine. For example, we all understand the nature of fire, and we all understand the result of fire and water being mixed together.Other personality profiles models fall far short of this one.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Four Elements
I have found this book to be life-changing in the sense of gaining an understanding of not only my personality traits and needs but also of those on my team. As a result, I have been better able to meet their needs and they in turn have been better able to meet the needs of our business. Having read and worked through Laurie Beth Jones book, "The Path", this book, "The Four Elements of Sucess", became a natural and necessary extension to our continuing growth and progress. I strongly recommend this book to anyone whether for business or personal life. If all it does is give you a better understanding or yourself or of those around you, that in itself can be priceless.

4-0 out of 5 stars Earth, Wind, Water, Fire
Laurie Beth Jones, author of Jesus, CEO and a successful business consultant has written an interesting book on personality profiling, The Four Elements of Success (2005, Thomas Nelson). Personality profiling is not new. Many of us are familiar with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicators and DISC relational profiling tools. Others will remember Tim Lahaye's books on transforming our personal temperament such as Spirit-Controlled Temperament and Transformed Temperaments. Another useful personality profiling tool is the enneagram. All these are time tested personality profiling tools.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and practical
I wasn't sure I would like this book. The topic of workplace psychology can be done wrong in so many ways. You can present it too clinically and thus lack any practicality. And you can slide the other way and shower the user with pop psychology check-lists and acronyms.
5-0 out of 5 stars Cultural organization managers, note!
Lubit's volume, "Coping with Toxic Managers and Subordinates," should be considered a standard reference for veteran and new professional staff, experienced and beginning managers, and leaders of all non-profit organizations, especially cultural ones. Colleagues have said that these conclusions apply to all organizations.5-0 out of 5 stars Practical guide for getting results

5-0 out of 5 stars TACKLES THE CHALLENGE OF UNDERSTANDING AND ADDRESSING HIDDEN ORGANIZATIONAL DYNAMICS!
Explores the unseen, unspoken and unacknowledged processes and psychodynamics of organization behavior at the individual and group levels, including hidden agendas, blind spots, politics, mindsets, values, and individual reasoning and motivation, both conscious and unconscious, that account for behaviors, particularly regarding organizational change. 5-0 out of 5 stars A stunning book that will transform the field of organizational consulting
For the first time, we have a road map to help consultants and managers make discussable anything and everything that has long been considered undiscussable. Move over Chris Argyris. In deceptively simple prose, grounded in the best academic thinking on change management, Marshak presents a brilliant yet amazingly practical model of covert processes at work. No organizational change initiative can afford to ignore the power ofunconscious dynamics among executives, managers, and employees. With this book in hand, your chances of success have just shot up a hundred fold.

4-0 out of 5 stars I have been using the 5th ed for ten years!
I took a bachelors course on Organizational Behavior from Dr. Shani at Cal Poly in 1996. Since then, I have used the book as a resource in graduate studies and in my team and leadership development work. The experiential learning method is a fantastic method that works especially well with teams.I highly recommend this paperback.I would rate this edition higher but have yet to see the updates. If it is anything like the fifth edition, you will not be disappointed. ... Read more
