5-0 out of 5 stars realistic demo experiences
Excellent Book!!!
4-0 out of 5 stars Showware - Showing Them Your Soft Wares
Demonstrating To Win is an exhaustive book on the topic of demonstrating software by experienced hand Robert Riefstahl. The author delves into the subject at hand with precision and detail through chapters like Demonstrating Is Not An Art!, Important Demonstration Concepts, The Demo Crime Files! and Your Demonstration Setting. There can hardly be a better resource than Demonstrating To Win for professionals in the industry. The book covers the obvious, mundane and elementary to the detailed nuances and tricks of the trade and aims to articulate the author's main thrust that in order to win the day the presenter has to build a bridge that the prospect wants to cross in order to reach you (and your software product).
4-0 out of 5 stars Good advice on demos, but methodology is dated
Riefstahl 's book is all about doing demos; what works and what doesn't for doing software demos in front of prospects. You won't find a lot about the overall sales process found in so many other books, just giving good demos and closely related information.

1-0 out of 5 stars English the Easy Way by Schachter & Schneiter Williams
Sorry authors but this book sucks...excuse the grammar.I really couldn't understand what the other reviewer meant by "answers", but now I do.There is no answer key.I looked everywhere for it.The only way you can get one is from the publisher and if you aren't a teacher, forget about it.If this is the case then why isn't it somewhere in bold so you don't waste $40 and precious time. The lady I spoke with at Thomson-SouthWestern said that they do it this way because they don't want school kids to get the answer key.She never could give me a reason why they offer this book to the mass public.Anyway, the book is well written but if you are not a teacher and need it for reviewing basic English don't waste you dough (money). Now I see why the 2nd reviewer gave such a good review...She/He's a TEACHER! DUH!*Happy Hunting*

5-0 out of 5 stars Very clear and well-organized
I'm using this book to teach an English grammar class, and it has been very helpful. It's easy to follow and logically laid out.I've found it better than a few other English grammar books I've seen. There are plenty of exercises.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is worth its weight in gold!
Lilly and Dottie Walters have contributed volumes to the world of professional speaking. All of their books provide veteran and upcoming speakers alike with the resources, tips, and guidelines needed to be successful.Thisbook is another example of the quality and care the Walters provide in all aspects of their speaking enterprise.I found this book to be most helpful in planning and writing my public speaking presentations as well as in my daily lesson preparations as a secondary school teacher.Lilly Walters presents page after page of straight forward approaches to capturing and keeping any audiences attention as well as numerous methods of achieving and reinforcing the exact message you were aiming at delivering. This is a must have on every public speaker's and educator's book shelf. My name is Kelly Croy. You can learn more about me and how I use this excellent book by Lilly Walters on my website at www.kellycroy.com.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book, if you are not a professional presenter.
I'm not a professional presenter, but as a manager I'm constantly faced with this challenge. The book is the first one I purchase on the subject and I'm quite pleased with what I red. His tips are well presented and structured with useful real world examples. The reading is easy, logical and builds up. Overall I definitely think is worth the money. Again, it may not be material for a professional, but if you want to improve your daily presentations (very interesting point of view that this book introduces) and sail a little easier in life, definitely worth your money.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good read....great advice...a keeper!
I'm a pretty experienced presenter (to groups and one-on-one) and I found this book quite helpful. For anyone whose success depends on their ability to influence, you'll want to read this book. Many, many good points--especially the emphasis on preparation. Most people give lip-service to preparation, Tony lives it! The stories are great and teach a lot. It's an easy read...and was definitely worth my time.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was expecting a book on presentations and was disappointed. The book had some anecdotes about the author's life that were okay but I was left uninspired. Of course, every encounter you have in business can be judged just as if you were doing a presentation, but this needs to be the subject of a whole book? I don't think so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not business as usual
I've always been perplexed by the fact that we run our meetings according to rules dreamed up by a military engineer more than 100 years ago.Maybe Roberts' arcane procedures about what can be discussed by whom and when worked once upon a time, but they don't make sense either in the modern business world or for making important policy decisions today.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for developing effective communication
This book has great value whether you are a business owner, politician or public agency staffer, an environmentalist, a facilitator, mediator or any other interested party. It provides a simple, concise and easy-to-understand review of the consensus building process. From a communication perspective, consensus building lends itself towards helping any party in a negotiation develop a greater understanding and wider range of solutions that may be available on any given issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!
Writing a response to a Request for Proposal (RFP) may seem just like any other writing project, unless you know how technical and demanding the process can be. Successful proposals require a deliberate focused effort, especially when winning or losing a bid can mean corporate success or financial doom. Authors David G. Pugh and Terry R. Bacon do a solid job of presenting the challenges and processes involved in drafting winning proposals. They explain what happens before and after a proposal is submitted and even provide excerpts from winning proposals, timetables, review questions and team task assignments. The material is so solid that you'll wish for more war stories, but that omission does not detract from this valuable book. We highly recommend it and find it very useful for people and teams who want to write proposals that bring home the Bacon (and Pugh). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars On a Scale of 1-5, This Book is a 10
You don't generally think of books like this as "page-turners", but I could not put it down.In Extreme Facilitation, Suzanne Ghais has moved away from the cookbook (techniques-based) view of facilitation found in many other books and training materials, and has captured the core principles that underlie successful facilitation in extreme situations. For example -- there are no "difficult" people in a group; rather "difficult" behaviors reflect needs or interests that have not yet been identified or adequately addressed.Once these needs or interests are understood by the group and dealt with, the "difficulty" usually passes.
5-0 out of 5 stars A WEALTH OF GOOD IDEAS, ILLUSTRATIVE STORIES, & USEFUL INSIGHTS!
The author has produced an extremely comprehensive and well written book on facilitating in the most challenging situations. Such situations call for more depth, adaptability and strategy than is addressed in other books on facilitation; this book's aim is to provide powerful, highly focused guidelines for the toughest facilitation challenges.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good if you'd like a quick read
This book is a quick read. It glosses over concepts that are covered in greater detail in "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. If you are looking for the fast read, this is your book. If you are serious about improving work relationships, I'd have to recommend Carnegie's book instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceedingly Thorough and Strong
Though not as current as some other texts dealing with corporate communication, Argenti's book is still the best.It combines both theory and practice, never letting one dominate the other; instead, it combines them, letting their merged strengths shine. It's similar to Guerrilla PR: Wired by Michael Levine, which also utilizes the practice of public relations to great effect in examining how to attain the objective.5-0 out of 5 stars Paul Argenti's Corporate Communication: A new perspective
I have been using Paul Argenti's Corporate Communication for my Management and Corporate Communication class and find the book very systematic and comprehensive. It provides students with a new perspective of professional external and internal communication that a company needs to build its image and identity. Especially, the down-to-earth cases for discussions such as, the Adolph Coors Company and the 60 minutes CBS program, and the case of United Technologies, are perfect application of knowledge to practice. More significant is that those problems are universal and might occur to any organization. And this is credited to Paul Argenti's long experience of teaching management and corporate communication. I really enjoy using this book. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Icebreakers Only
If I had the opportunity to flip through this book in a bricks-and-mortar bookstore, I wouldn't have bought it.I was looking for ways to communicate business and organizational lessons through the use of games and activities. This book is just a list of icebreaker activities without providing any of the "meat" of the lesson the activity should have delivered.Providing references for those of us seeking said content would have helped to fill that gap.

Your abundance message rings true with the dramatic increase in my personal network within my community and business organization. As a recruiter and President of my district's Netwroking Association, your book has inspired me to 'work my pond' with ever increasing success.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's Just Common Sense!!!
This book was a disappointement for me, yes, I does give some useful insights into networking and what it is all about. However, most of the chapters are based on common sense that you would do anyway (I hope!!) such as being polite and striking up conservations with people and being nice to everybody regardless of class.
5-0 out of 5 stars Give yourself"Permission to Network"
I loved this book - I see so many people either not giving themselves permission to network and/or not allowing others permission to network at events everyday.Coming to events without business cards and not being ready to introduce yourself is such a loss for all involved - Top it off with showing up but only wanting to speak with the party you came with is so limiting - I love this book and the concept of "Permission to Network" as a focal point was fantastic to see.Everyone needs to read this and then apply the practice at every networking function they attend as well as apply this in general life skills.Good things can only come to those open to recieve them!;) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent communication skills tool!
I've been doing reception work for a long time and was recently promoted to because of my excellent phone and office skills. Not to brag, just to illustrate that I know something about customer service on the phone. I love reference material and I have purchased other books on the same subject. I read this book, nearly cover-to-cover (left out the sales calls chapter as it does not apply to me), and I found it interesting, informative, easy-to-read, and applicable to my work. Very useful tips on how to handle all kinds of situations. Written for anyone from the 20-year professional secretary/assistant to a total beginner. I would definitely choose this book over The Phone Book: Telephone Skills for Business Success Student Text by Fisher.
