5-0 out of 5 stars I like it!
So many training guides merely compile the same old activities that have been circulating forever.I was glad to see some really unique activities in here (even though it first came out twenty years ago!).I also found the trainer's introduction pertinent and helpful.1-0 out of 5 stars Games Trainers Play
I was really looking forward to getting this book and was so disappointed when I got it.I don't see how anyone could rate it at 5 stars. It was dry and boring. There are better books out there than this one.I even met Ed Scannell last year in Austin.I'm just gled that he is not as boring as the book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Made-to-Order for Social Marketers
This work book is chock-filled with practical help for preparing an effective social marketing plan. I enjoyed the easy-to-use forms. Many great ideas for applying social marketing too. It's so hard to find resources that relate to the unique nature and challenges of this kind of marketing. If you are a non-profit change oriented social marketer you need this book on your shelf!

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific resource for nonprofits
I have used this resource with clients who have few resources and little experience in social marketing. It is a well written guidebook that explains the steps in developing social marketing strategies and provides well constructed worksheets. The bookis extremely enlightening for organizations who are doing this for the first time or who cannot afford high-priced consultants. As a writer without much social marketing background, it helped me help my clients. It might be worth noting that the reference is designed for U.S. use and cites resources only available here, but I still found the basic approach helpful for an overseas client. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Sales Stimulation!
From reading New Sales Speak, I learned the importance of focusing on the "how" (delivery) not just the "what" (product).Enthusiasm and expertise shine though on every page as the author teaches invaluable tools to develop dynamic sales presentation skills.I became aware of the limitless potential within an individual to fulfill their desires and learned how to attune those desires through effective communication, courtesy, and creativity. After applying the sales presentation skills taught in New Sales Speak to my next listing presentation, I walked away with 3 things... a signed contract, a satisfied client, and a smile.

In the last two years my company has been using Mr. Bounstein's advice to develop various management tools. It is a decent one stop reference when you want to review your communication skills.5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Useful Book

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tips, Quick Read, What's Not To Like?
There were some great tips and perspectives in this book. The first third of the book, in particular, was very helpful. The perspectives on breathing, foundation, silence, and consonants were fabulous.
5-0 out of 5 stars Loved This Book! Easy to read, tons of great tips.
I thoroughly enjoyed Voice Power by Grant-Williams. It's informative, entertaining, and well-written. I enjoyed the personal anecdotes, and have found the information and exercises extremely useful. I'm more aware of my sentence structure, intonation and inflection, and it has also helped my listening skills.

5-0 out of 5 stars Questions and More!
This book has 75 short chapters, one for each of the self-described "cage rattling questions."Each chapter opens with the question, provides you 3-5 ways to use the question, shares a "war story" and gives you some tips for using this particular question.
3-0 out of 5 stars You can come up with these
I wouldn't disagree with any of the other reviews, but it's a matter of personal preference where I spend my money.I wouldn't spend it on this book.Once you focus on what you want to accomplish (ie., "shake-em-up"), you could come up with a lot of these challenges."If your company were a car...If your company were a footbal team.." and so on.In a word, analogy. I've found in workshops I've conducted, whether they're on Creativity, Problem-Solving, Leadership, or other topics, I'll use this "provocative" technique maybe once or twice in a full day.Beyond that the novelty has worn off.4-0 out of 5 stars Actually useful
I was surprised at how useful this book is. When I first looked at it, Ithought the questions looked obvious and simplistic, but they work verywell to start off team meeting sessions. The authors provide lots of goodideas about how to use them, and little anecdotes to inspire you to believethat the questions can actually change the way you do business. I've usedthem for meeting kick-offs and to jump-start moribund discussions. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Necessary for any great speech
I had an important ceremony coming up and I didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to wow the crowd. This book gave me enough good ideas to research, write, and deliver a great speech. I had three goals for my speech:Establish myself as a great speaker, make the audience understand that I had written a great speech, and bring the receipient to the point of tears.5-0 out of 5 stars Best Public Speaking Book for analytical & intense reader
In architecture schools considerable time is spent on materials for building. The potential of the materials determines what can be built and how it will look and feel. How is it that other public speaking books spend so little time on choosing the right word. Perlman spends a great deal of effort on teaching how to find and select the right word. He demonstrates how the right word for speaking is different than the right word for written communication. You can be a great writer without being a good speaker, but you can't be a great speaker without being a good writer.Read more

Editorial Review

The purpose of this book is to demonstrate in easy, concrete steps that anyone can draw well enough to enhance his or her communication skills. Milly Sonneman takes you through initially simple and then progressively more advanced steps that can teach any person, in spite of self-doubts, how to make compelling drawings that will clarify ideas and make them more interesting. Sonneman stresses that your body already knows how to draw and teaches you how to listen to it and learn. This is a fantastic book for teachers, for people who do business presentations, and for anybody who wants to draw for the fun of it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Old Dog can learn new tricks
All my 50 years I was convinced i could not draw and I was not artistic. This book proved me wrong.Quickly my intuitive mind grasped the concepts and I started drawing.Folks comment all the time how long I have been drawing.Their jaws drop when I tell them for only a year. This book's style was instrumental in making it easy to enjoy drawing.

If you are spending 2 hours to make the perfect PowerPoint, this book gives you the confidence to make your own drawings, pictorals, and basic diagrams on any whiteboard or paper easel.I was a statitican (so you know I can't draw) but often needed to work out ideas of my own and in groups. The simple pictures learned in this book helps everyone understand the discussion that's going on.Connect words, ideas, and your audience with esy to draw colorful pictograms of your ideas.5-0 out of 5 stars Instant Gratification
All these reviewers are right. I opened the book and within 30 seconds i drew the first picture which looked EXACTLY like the one in the book. 5-0 out of 5 stars If you buy one book on Managerial Communication, buy Munter
This is a great book for people working in industry, or teaching business communication. Short. No b.s. Full of good hints, do's and don'ts, and references. News you can use. Buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on business writing
Munter's work clearly and concisely leads you through making your message effective. She gets to the heart of communicating: what form should it take, how to structure it, and how to execute it so that it has the best chance of achieving your purpose. In particular, I was helped immensely from her discussion about how to analyze your audience and choose the best strategy for relaying your message. She not only covers writing, but also presentations and speaking. To top it off, she includes advice about whitespace, word choice, effective sentence structures, outlining, and more.An all-around great book that every purposeful writer should own.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
The theme of this book is to fit every individual to a specific framework that the author claims proven. The result is robotic communicators. I personally believe that good communicators are those who brings out the best in themselves, creative and charismatic. This book advocates the other way around.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic- a great resource
Ultimately, what stays with an audience, is the content of your speech.Richard Dowis, a former journalist and retired senior vice president of Manning, Selvage, and Lee Public Relations provides information to help you effectively collect, organize and shape content into powerful speeches. He urges you to consider first the purpose of your speech, what you really want the audience to walk away with. Then, to fit your purpose into the format and time allotted. You must begin by researching your topic, clarifying your purpose, creating an outline and identifying a strong thesis, or unifying idea. When organizing your speech the most important consideration is that it must be logically organized. He identifies several organizational strategies you can use.For example, Chronological order, the "Big Bang" where a shocking thesis is presented up front, and Cause-and-effect which outlines the causes of a problem, describes its effect and suggests a solution. He also provides the following guidance on writing your speech:

2-0 out of 5 stars Good theory, worth an article than a book
The author has come up with a great thought but this thought isn't profound enough to write a book. This is why the book is full of examples and lacks thought provoking insights.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Interesting and Inspiring Book to Read
This book is very well to dress for the concept Disruption and how does it works. There are many examples, a lot of are from the authors own company BDDP, which are very useful for explain the concepts. Also he attaches the pictures of the related advertisement, which makes it easy to understand. And the author introduces step by step, from the basic knowledge of the real advertising world, background knowledge, and then gets into the Disruption. Even in the practice chapter, he integrates the Management skills (Planner), Knowledge Management (Disruption World Bank) which is very useful and clear for readers to apply the strategy. 5-0 out of 5 stars All Time Must-Read
If you ask me, this book belongs right up there with "Positioning" as one of the all time must-reads, not only for marketers and advertising people, but really for anyone in business. And while it was published in the mid-90s, it couldn't be more relevant today. At heart, what Mr. Dru says (and then supports with many examples) is that the only path to genuine business success is to fly in the face of conventional thinking. Read more

Editorial Review

If all business meetings could happen as concisely and productively asthis nifty little book dispenses advice, we wouldn't need a pocket-sized meetingplanner like this in the first place. But, because most of us do, be glad thatthis 72-pager offers what it does--namely, smart secrets and strategies forgetting twice as much accomplished in meetings, and in half the time--includinghow to decide if you need to call a meeting in the first place, and, if so, ifyou can make it a quick and informal one; prepare a meeting, from theparticipants and location to the agenda; get the most out of your attendance ata meeting, from making sure that you're seen and heard to practicing "activelistening" and taking good minutes; chair a meeting effectively by maintainingpace and order, problem-solving, and evaluating your own skill as a chairperson. On every page, boxed tips, handy checklists, and mini case studies bring all ofthe advice to life. Granted, if you're looking for very specific or in-depthguidance, you might find this book too cursory and general in its approach. But,if you're looking for a thumbnail guide to the basics, it'll do just fine.Read more

Always so fond of 'Weekly Kids & Parental Meets', what I ever thought after attending meetings in person or groups elsewhere is, that most of the chairpersons and leaders lag somewhere when it came to 'Effective Managing Meetings' for Constructive results. I make a point to gift this book of Tim Hindle to the chiefs with a purpose to enhance their potentialities with better Managing Committees or groups. Most of the places, a meeting begins with a 'Cause', meet, dine and be merry to end up with time running short. This Book is a 'Perfect Gift' as it has detailed power tips to hand real life situations and develop first-class meeting skills to improve efficiency and decisiveness. Right from Defining Meetings whether Formal or Informal, knowing aims, selecting attendees, preparing agenda, site, passing the message, handling problems, checking those pitfalls and lot more reflects how to deal with situations. The book has small tabled 'Things to do' and analysis, charts too handy. I recommend this book for every newbie and existing top persons whether in Business or conducting Groups, Ladies wings, etc. A must read.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Primer
This book is fairly basic, and its layout of short chapters, lots of headings, photos, lists, and tables make it a quick and easy book for browsing. This is a good book for those with little experience, orconfidence, in handling or attending meetings. It also serves as a quickrefresher, because of its format. You will not find anything profound orinnovative, and some of it is a little too simplistic or irrelevant.Attimes it seems a little exploitive in its approach to human relations; itis not long on how to overcome differences or conflicts.Still, Irecommended it in the leadership development course which I teach. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Severely Lacking to be labeled as "COMPLETE"
Being new to Crystal Reports and finding the company's website and software tutorials very inadequate, I put forth the money to get this book with the aspirations that it would help my ability to utilize this software better.Unfortunately, that was not accomplished.I found the book to be difficult to follow, screen shots were haphazardly inserted onto the pages, and, as another reviewer pointed out, the index was a complete disappointment. The book does a pretty good job describing parts and pieces of Crystal Reports 9 but did very little to actually "teach" me how to use them.I was able to get through parts but re-reading and repeated trouble-shooting mostly taught me what I needed to know.Unfortunately, because this was my first "Complete Reference" books that I've purchased I doubt that I will purchase another. The bad news is that when I purchased this book, there were not many books on CRv9 that were available so I had little choice.Thankfully my company reimbursed me for the cost of the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Has some good reference material, hard to locate.
I was fairly new to Crystal when I bought this book and I found it to have some good material for the intermediate user of Crystal, but the index is the most incomplete I have ever seen in a reference book.Every time I try to look up something that I KNOW I have previously read in the darn thing, it inevitably is not listed in the index and I have to go thumbing through the book to try to locate it.Sometimes I succeed, sometimes the help screens are much much better.

2-0 out of 5 stars No questions answered by this book
As a developer you better check the knowledge base of Business Objects, post in their news groups and/or if you are a registered user ask/email their consultants.

5-0 out of 5 stars review - Steve Vornea
It is indisputable that the key to success in business lies not only in attracting business, but maintaining relationships through repeat business as well as referrals. The book does an excellent job of detailing some of the more complex principles that guide not only the creation but the growth of a successful business.
5-0 out of 5 stars Even bought copies for my co-workers!
Great book, I'm a Realtor and this is what I have been teaching my team members in a nutshell so I bought copies of this book for them to show them how to live their life to earn referrals.I think it's a great read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Refer this to a friend
For a professional, consultant or entrepreneur trying to build a business, referrals are too important to leave to chance. You need a proactive process that will encourage referrals on a continuing basis. As a marketing consultant and teacher, I recommend this book to all the independent professionals and small business owners that I teach. I 've taped some of the best tips to my computer so I am reminded of them everyday. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Podcasting - The Future of Publishing
The Business Podcasting Bible is one of those pivotal books that points towards the future of publishing, by synergizing the on-line and off-line publishing world. I have no doubt in saying it shall be a seminal marketing model and book in years to come, that many of us will point to as an inspiration to fusing on-line and off-line marketing to our income streams.
