4-0 out of 5 stars Solid and Insightful (as expected)
Didn't get five stars because some of the articles are a little dated.Updates from a time after e-mail was invented would be helpful.Fernando Bartelome's article is worth the price of the book all by itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Comunications Book Ever!
Talk about efficive. This book has increased my comunication effictiveness 110%.The articles are very inciteful. Before I read this book my meetings went terrible.I was rarely a project lead. This book showed me how terribily incompetant I really was.The book Effective Comunications completly undressed me.Then, I let its articals dress me with confidence.People pay attention in my meetings and they are productive in a new way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breadth of articles that help business communication work
Though the collection of articles may at first seem sort of old (the oldest is from 1957), the content is very apropos for today. While building a Training Roadmap for our company, I found articles that I think will be extremely useful for a wide range of positions.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Book
This book is awful. The revisions to it are updated, but to follow the book in order is nearly impossible. This is a text book being used at a college. The information in this book is scattered and makes learning the concepts difficult.I do not recommend this book for use at colleges/universities.There has to be another book out there that allows users to learn the concepts and terminology in an easier fashion.
5-0 out of 5 stars Six Stars!
I've recently completed a course using this textbook.Excellent!!!It has been a long time (if ever) since I have actually enjoyed reading a textbook.I feel it should be mandatory reading for all authors and potential authors who will ever feel the need to publish a textbook for undergraduate level work in a technical field.5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, using in my PSU networking class
This book is great, it starts from the beginning of the networking age and goes through all the newest technologies and ideas about networking.Covers the business aspects of networking, wireless, how TCP/IP works and pretty muct the 802 standars.Book covers everything, this is one book I won't be selling back.A really good reference book for the basics of networking and rules to follow as well when getting into the networking field. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars the marriage of group thinking, reflection and action
This is a book that I wish that I had been able to read 20 years ago.In my work with groups I have always appreciated the art of facilitation. However, the process and the endpoints of group diaglogue have often been less than clear.
5-0 out of 5 stars Review of Dialogue Mapping
I read this book recently and my facilitation and project management efforts have improved as a result.
5-0 out of 5 stars Imagine a world filled with GREAT meetings...
Imagine a world in which most meetings are rich, stimulating, effective gatherings that we actually look forward to attending.... Sure, it sounds far-fetched! But that possibility is already here today, and that's what Dr. Jeff Conklin's book is about.

5-0 out of 5 stars From Adnan Khashoggi to Judith Regan - quite a tale in 122 pages!
Like a previous reviewer, I did the 'Better Together' promotion which paired Patrick Riley's "One-Page Proposal" with Tom Sant's book. How good is Riley's book?Five pages into it, I literally pitched Sant's book.Nothing against Mr. Sant's work.I was just so smitten with Riley's approach and take on things that I didn't want a competing model to diminish the clarity of it.
4-0 out of 5 stars One-page Wonderful!
Crisp, concise and also inspirational without being too salesy. I recommend this book to every business person who wishes to be more effective and compelling with their proposals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learning when best to use a one-page proposal
I did the "Better Together" promotion and I have to say it was worth it. When you partner this book with Sant's book, you really get a nice blend of complexity and simplicity in delivery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Speed takes communication: How fast do you want to go?
Effective execution takes coordinated effort. Why is this seemingly obvious fact so difficult to experience? The authors do an excellent job of illustrating how effective listening provides the starting point for a level of interaction that allows disparate views to be heard and valued.
5-0 out of 5 stars Apply These Principles
I was introduced to this book by a colleague at a former employer. If you feel like you are building consensus, driving decisions or winning arguments - only to learn later that nothing is sticking "because of the other guy" - then you owe it to yourself to read this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars refreshing and effective
The authors have offered a refreshing and effective model for communicating. The search for an intersection of facts, views, and intent makes incredible sense.I am using this model in all of my work and making progress in creating more value and less waste.I love their vocabulary.Buy this book if you want to make a positive and significant difference in the manner in which you communicate to those you want to influence, inspire and transform. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Keep this reference by your side to help your data tell its story
I think anyone who solves serious problems by analyzing data will want to own a copy of this book.Being able to organize data into the right visual image can often make no less a difference than that between seeing the answer to the problem vs. getting lost in the complexity and variation in the data.
5-0 out of 5 stars excellent reference guide for graphs/charts
this is an excellent book if you are working with different types of graphs or charts.we use it as the bible while programming gui tools to create graphs.if you are looking to make meaningful graphs, this book can clue you in to the different types of graphs that will best illustrate your data.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Proper Examination and Explanation of Human Action
If you have found most personality tests insignificant, unhelpful, or unrevealing, then perhaps this book is for you. Human Dynamics goes into much more depth and provides a greater understanding of human communication and actions than any simple personality test. While people can be placed into certain "dynamics," these dynamics are not nearly as restraining or stereotypical as personality tests tend to be. Rather than explaining one's personality, dynamics explain how groups of people tend to process information, not necessarily how aggressive, passive, or "likeable" they are. This book helped me in terms of personal discovery, and has also helped me understand why it always seemed that so many people "just never seemed to think like me."

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Models to describe human personality are presented. Each model has itunique characteristics, its strengths and weaknesses. Each model willrespond most effectively to certain modes of communications. Thisunderstanding of the different models presented will help a manager, ateacher, a student or just about anybody to understand themselves andpeople around them better. This will enable better communication of ideasand thoughts. Students will learn better and managers will be able tocommunicate more effectively with individuals. The models can be taken upto an organizational level. The applications of this book are far and wide.It is also simply and clearly written.

5-0 out of 5 stars improving teamwork in your organisation, family & community
the first time that I have found an approach which looks at humans holistically and systemically. It is not a group of personality characteristics describing superficial behaviours, buta way ofunderstanding and recognising internal processes particular to varioushuman dynamics. It therefore goes much deeper than any other personalityassessment technique I have seen and because of this can not be reduced toa paper and pencil test. However, the gift this approach brings is that itcan be taught to everyday people and can provide access to betterrelationships and a greater understanding of how to release our judgementof others.A truly life changing book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My Students Love it Too!
The open, inviting and easy-to-read format was the first thing that attracted me to Wilma Davidson's book. Next was the content. She covers all the major areas that most people need to work on to become more effective and efficient writers. Her book provides solid, practical information right up front, with a of easy-to-understand examples. Last but not least is the endorsement given in the forward by Janet Emig, who revolutionized the approach to writing being taught in school systems around the world today.I use Business Writing, What Works What Wont to supplement the principles and techniques I teach in my writing workshop, which is aimed at professionals in technical fields, and they love it too, saying it is a great help and excellent resource.

4-0 out of 5 stars What Works "Works"!
With business people today spending an average of 30% of their work time writing, this book offers simple techniques (along with practice situations) to make your message more clear and powerful. This book washelpful to me because most writing skills taught in business schools todayare not comparable to the writing demands faced by these same students inthe business world. This book also helped me discard my academic view thatwriting features lengthy paragraphs and big words and taught me to useconcise paragraphs to get the job done. Look at me now! This review wasoriginally five pages! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Resource for Productive Conversations
I like books that are practical and have real-world application. This book does that. You get 48 pages of enough explanation that you can learn how to use the Focused Conversation model. Then, you get the skeleton of 100 conversations that you can adapt and use. If you want to know more, read on.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Model
Ultimately conversations are the working process of most leadership. This book expands upon the conversation techniques presented in "Winning Through Participation".The model is simple and useful. When distilled down, a focused conversation proceeds through four stages:5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and Powerful Concept
Brian Stanfield and colleagues have written a meaningful book that provides a profound, yet simple method to help groups effectively grapple and address any kind of issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Like It
I found this book to be very effective. It's modular format made it easy to adapt to my classes, one on the Internet . . . no more taking page numbers from here and there. The examples were useful, with more on the Website. The students said it was good, too.I've used the old and the new versions. The new version has updated information and some new examples and assignments.I'm glad the "Polishing your Prose" assignments were kept.I assign these to students for self-study and see improvements in their grammar.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Few business writing texts balance salient instruction with an easy-to-read writing style.Business Communication:Building Critical Skills does just that.None of the textbooks I've used scored as highly with the students for effectiveness and easy use as this book.As anyone who teaches writing knows, students frequently complain about the textbook regardless of how good it is.Usually those students are the ones that do poorly in the class. But this book satisfied just about everybody including me.The authors manage to cut all the unnecessary information books of this kind usually are crammed with and get to the point. The exercises are great and have real world application, and the many grammar refreshers helped improve my students' writing. It's especially good for non-native speakers of English. This book seems well designed for teachers and students, and I would recommend it to both groups. The book is also cheaper than many competing books, which makes it even more attractive for students on a tight budget, which is most students today.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mistakes over Mistakes
Despite the fact that the book focuses on Business Communications, it still will not help students to achieve better communication skills (at least not with this issue). The book is full of logical and typological mistakes. Sorry but this will not work for a book that is trying to improve communication. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Radtke hits the mark
Radtke takes a generally vague term "P.R" and makes specific, detailed entry ways that prove essential in the creation of a public relations framework. The text concentrates on breaking up tasks into manageable units from the creation of the perfect mission statement to completion of an internal audit. The internal audit is a great example of the way Radtke approaches every angle of the P.R. question; Radtke isn't just focused on demographics (or psychographics or geographics--all are explained here) or target audiences but she also encourages readers to investigate the inner workings of their specific organization.By examining the specific organization (from the number of phones to the personality of the staff) Radtke helps you design the most appropriate plan for your non-profit group. The accompanying C.D. helps you utilize the detailed models in the text and it's terribly easy to use, making the learning process much more fun.My only complaint would be that the information presented is a bit dense, making steady reading somewhat difficult. However, I reccomend Lawrence Wallack's straight forward "News for a Change" as an aid to Radtke's detailed vision. However, Wallack doesn't tackle as many issues as Radtke and her text still stands alone. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Tremendous aid for understanding how to turn your new product idea into a successful business
I launched a new product line several years ago - learning a lot along the way.I am getting ready to launch a new line of products and decided to read this book.It was a tremendous resource! So many of the answers that I had to dig for and learn the hard (and expensive) way - are contained here in one easy to read book.I highly endorse it.It is also very motivational (as you read the stories of other people) that decided to take action and turn their idea into a successful business.Well worth the price.Very well written.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and inspiring
Mom inventors wanting more info on what's involved in bringing a product to market will want to read this book. The book offers practical advice on researching your market, creating your product prototype, protecting your idea, manufacturing your product, and bringing your product to market.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing, Informational & A Must Have

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on facilitation I've read
This is a wonderful, practical, well-written book, with 60 facilitation secrets that are worth far, far more than the price of the pages. In fact, I learned more from this book than I did from a nationally recognized Advanced Facilitation course for $1700.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For The Executive Suite
The Secrets of Facilitation is a great book for facilitators, from those about to facilitate their first session to those of us who have been practicing for over 25 years.I counted over 200 Post-Its and notes in my copy.Beyond what we facilitators gain, the "secret" of The Secrets is the value this book will have to those in Executive Suites and serving on Boards.
5-0 out of 5 stars Facilitating Success
The Secrets of Facilitation delivered success for me at a recent series of conferences. My primary role on the day was to open the conference and engage delegates in thinking about the future and formulating questions, and observations to put to various speakers throughout the day. Thereafter my role was to facilitate the question and answer sessions and generally keep the conference moving along. Getting the opening right was crucial to the success of the day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Avoiding the cultural faux pas...
Today's business world is such that you are very likely to have working relationships with global business partners. And you *should* know that "when in Rome, do as the Romans do".But what exactly is that?Terry Morrison and Wayne A Conaway bridge some of that information gap with the book Kiss, Bow, or Shake Hands. This is one of those books that could help you close a big deal (or avoid killing one).
4-0 out of 5 stars A resource for me
Written for the international business traveler, this book was a great resource for me as characters in the Marketplace novels came from around the world. For my fans who keep asking me for "the protocol:" hey, start here and you tell me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing!
60 countries, and the only country in the entire continent of Africa the authors wrote about was Egypt? C'mon. While the authors do, in a similar compilation published after this one, include South Africa (the only other country in Africa included) and a few other countries, it is still a disgrace that books and compilations such as this one ignore the importance of proper business ettiqute in countries such as Kenya, Senegal, Ghana, and Tanzinia and do nothing more than perpetuate falsehoods, myths and fears about doing business in the aforementioned African countries and many others. ...
