5-0 out of 5 stars BUSINESS WRITING INSTRUCTION TAKES QUANTUM LEAP!
As a college business communication instructor and corporate writing consultant of 20+ years, I feel my career is about to take a quantum leap forward with my discovery of this magnificent compendium of materials.Mary Ellen Guffey has done ALL the hard work!Juicy, readable text:done.Riveting "inside" information on cool corporations:done.Web-based support?Manuals?PowerPoints?Videos?Done.Fresh writing prompts, some packaged with the research already done?Done. With my old text, I've been drowning in an attempt to supplement and update and enrich the dated material enough to keep it relevant and arresting. Now I'm finding that I have plenty of time to interact with students over their own writing and presentations.I've always felt one-on-one and small-group interaction to be a huge part of my mission as a classroom teacher. Thanks to Mary Ellen Guffey, I'm able to do more of it, while spending less time overall on take-home work.Thank you, Mary Ellen, from the trenches--not just for a marvelous tool, but for a whole toolbox full of them. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Reference Book!
I've used the "Gregg" (as we refer to it in the office) for the past 7 years, and it's the only reference manual for grammar and punctuation that I need.I can find everything in this book!I love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Gregg Reference Manual is a Must Have!
My staff already had a Gregg Reference Manual, but they use it heavily and we obviously needed another copy so that one would always be available. Keeping in mind the manual's value to staff, I ordered two more, rather than one. It's our GO-TO reference. The final word!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic reference guide
This is my first book of English grammer and writing since I used Wren and Martin in school.I would recommend it to everyone who is even remotely interested in improving their writing skills. It covers many different aspect of writing and punctuation and the cross referencing is solid.I think this book will occupy prime spot in my library for many years to come. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good but over-rated
Good but it could be much better. The selection of books on this topic is poor to begin with. But this happens to be one of the best in that underserved category.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Refreshing Approach to Presentations
I ran across this book while researching a college workshop on perfecting presentation, dealing with public speaking and effective use of PowerPoint. As one who has suffered through numerous electronic slides that did little or nothing to augment the speaker's efforts, I was delighted to see this fresh and innovative approach. I believe this process works best, however, when one's speech is primarily persuasive in nature. Although these ideas helped me set up a strong introduction and conclusion, in a recent lecture I resorted to bullet points for the material I felt the students had to master. Perhaps as I get more used to Atkinson's technique, I'll better about using it in lecture. However, the business applications seem quite worthwhile. My students' workshop presentations that used his techniques were highly engaging. I highly recommend this book and the supporting web site.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This is a short and concise book . I used it in one of my graduate courses, and found it very helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading
I used a previous edition of Ms. Munter's book as a text in a graduate course in management communications. The latest edition adds some new subjects and is still one of the best books on the subject. If you could only have one book on this subject this would be a good choice. Even though this book covers a broad base of communication skills (strategy, written, verbal and non-verbal, typography, graphical and prepresentation skills), each subject is covered in considerable depth. This book should be on the office shelf of every manager who needs to communicate effectively.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why Re-Invent the Wheel When You Don't Have To?
The most successful companies learn more and more from the best practices of other successful companies. John Baldoni has selected some of the most persuasive people from the twentieth century and has analyzed and revealed their secrets so that you or I or anyone can improve our communication. It saves precious time to learn from others.Don't waste precious time by learning to communicate better by trial and error.Buy this book and learn from some of the best communicators of the twentieth century how they did and do it, so you can do the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars AN INTRIGUING "HOW-TO" OF LEADERSHIP COMMUNICATIONS
Baldoni's "Great Communication Secrets Of Great Leaders" is a well-researched and highly readable "how-to" of leadership communications. This author knows his material, and presents it through the interesting device of linking principles to some of the world's leading communicators. It was refreshing to read a business-centered book that focus specifically on the communication aspects of leadership, which Baldoni obviously understands quite well. As a former professional actor, I also enjoyed how the author links dynamic presentations to effective performance. This book is well worth the modest cover price.A definite "buy!" ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy Something Else
This book is a waste. I read about 95% of this book. A fair price for a new copy of this book would be $12.95, not $112.95. The book is boring and does not provide much useful information. Fortunately, for other students who have not yet taken the course that required it, the MBA program at my school is changing to a different textbook for the summer session. I would recommend looking for a different book to learn about either written or spoken business communication.

This book primarily deals with what the title says. Dashboards. I was not aware ofthe complexity and breadth of this type of interface, but since it is not a forte I usually provide to clients, the book was an interesting read.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I had high hopes when picking up this book.In the end I found little of use.Perhaps I was looking for more than an approach that was business oriented.Information displays for systems monitoring are a topic almost completely missed in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Media Planning: A Pratical Guide
This book is filled with useful information about Media Planning.Every student of the Advertising Industry should have this book to use as a guide when starting out in the Advertising career path.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ouch!
Jim Surmanek may know a great deal about media planning. However, most of the people who attempt to read this book will never discover that. Why? Jim does not know how to communicate effectively. I have not made it too far into this book, and every inch has been a struggle. What I have learned thus far could have been expressed in one, maybe two, paragraphs.1-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth It
Contrary to what the previous reviewers have to say about this book, I was extremely unsatisfied. The author makes what is so simple into something that is confusing and frustrating. Earlier chapters talk about topics that aren't even explained until later in the book. It takes a paragraph of confusing examples to explain what could be easily said in a sentence. Equations are given without proper explanation of how things were achieved. This book shows the 5th step with the assumption that the reader figures out steps 1-4. To someone new to the media planning field, I would recommend you pass this one by. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This Book is Alright
Being an avid reader of Event Planning literature, I must say that this book is alright.

5-0 out of 5 stars Packed with Knowledge!
Details, details, details. That's really what successful event planning is all about, and that's the key to this very successful event-planning manual. Author Judy Allen notes, lists, copes with and gives an example of virtually every detail in planning anything from a sedate corporate event in a major city to a huge celebration on a remote island. She provides examples galore plus tips, questions and answers, sample cost sheets and schedules. How much floor space does a person need to be comfortable in a tent? Answer: 20 square feet. How many bathrooms should be available for a party? Answer: One per 75 guests. And don't forget to ask about the stemware, adequate parking and even the photographer's back-up camera battery. This author seems to have thought every contingency, as the book's ambitious title promises. Her one glaring omission is that she does not include the party planner's fee - our guess is that she'd be worth it. We highly recommend this well-organized, very practical book to all event planners. Don't send out press releases for your party without consulting Judy Allen.

As an equity analyst, consultant, and communication specialist, I saw - and made - dozens of colorful presentations with the best charts that excel can draw that simply didn't work.
4-0 out of 5 stars Consider it part of a broad business education
When one considers the amount of time/money they spend on improving their job skills, it would seem obvious that a high-value read like'Say it with Charts' would be worth some consideration. It provides a framework for using charts to your advantage- and not just within oral presentations. If anything, this book will increase your willingness to use charts to your advantage when selling an opinion. It forces the user to think about exactly what it is they are trying to say - and then produce a professional looking chart to relay that message.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Inside Story of Successful Companies
"Stories play a major therapeutic role in life. As earthly sojourners in the 21st century we experience the outer world in society, organizations and communities as paradoxical, rapidly changing, and becoming more globally inter-dependent. This out world many times is at variance with our own inner world. And this is the therapeutic power of storytelling." ~David Dunning, Corporate Leadership Psychologist

Eveyn Clark has written a wonderful book about corporate storytelling and in the process has told us a wonderful story. She has gathered us around in a corporate, global campfire circle and inspired, entertained, and taught us the value of storytelling. She gives us role models to follow and insights to understand why this is so important in today's business world. She gives guidance as to how to implement storytelling into our own corporate lives. A very important book in this digital world we live in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rich Barbee, CEO, K/P Corporation, San Ramon CA
"I believe this work is a `must read and understand' for all senior executives. Quite simply, most CEOs tell the world their most important assets are their people.Yet, what they most often discuss are their financials and their markets. This book is a wonderful review of companies relating to their employees through storytelling and becoming more successful as a result."

This book explains the concept of building a network of consumers to build wealth. It clearly demonstrates why no selling is needed and is absolutely essential for anyone that is serious about building a large team. Please note that there are two editions of this book. One is riddled with typos and has been slammed in other reviews. The ISBN for the typo filled edition is 1587217899. The ISBN for the corrected edition is 1887938958. This is the one you want to buy. I agree with another reviewer that giving the wrong edition could undermine your credibility. That's why I've included both numbers so that there is no mistake when ordering. This is an excellent book for marketers to read. I'd even "position" this book as one of the best marketing books out there. Today, when there is so much "fluff" out there and things being repeated and re-sold in books, you come to realize how much you appreciate a fresh thought. This book gives you exactly that.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great book for learning more about positioning on the American markets
It is a great book for learning the basics in positioning. It primarily focus on American companies and I would have prefered more examples from Europe, that is why I only give it 4 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great insights
The book is a real classic, giving great insights into what works in marketing and more importantly what does not work and why it doesn't work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful reference book
I use this book for my primary text in a Business and Professional Communication class that I teach. The students like how the book is organized; I appreciate the examples that we can use in class for discussion.4-0 out of 5 stars Full of It
This book is choc-full of useful techniques for good, solid business communication. The samples are well thought-out and are very true to life. However, the questions, especially the ethics questions do not have any answers provided.Even the instructor copy doesn't have any of the answers, so effectively it boils down to your opinions and whether or not you can defend them.Yee Hah, just like real life.

5-0 out of 5 stars it is a very good bookfor a beginning student of BBA OR MB

4-0 out of 5 stars Good. Helpful. Compelling-ish.
The parable of the software company in crisis was not the most thrilling read in the world, but considering it was means toward teaching me about the exciting world of corporate meetings, it was both effective and not boring.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hit Hard and Straight: A good use of my five hours
When I picked up this book I knew that there were some elements that I liked. It hooked me in the first ten-minutes because it held my attention just like a movie. It kept things going in a readible, conflict-change methodology as if I were watching it unfold like a television drama. It had a taste for talent, gossip, relationships, oh yeah and management tools that I could use too. This was a phenom book and would recommend it to anyone who's meeting did the suck dance like mine did.

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting on the Same Page
Death by Meeting has been an excellent resource for our team.It provided us a common format for discussion and planning that was quick to read and easy to implement. The difference between this book on meetings and most leadership books on anything is that other teammembers actaully READ the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars How Did This Book Make It To The 8th Edition?
If you are a college professor or instructor, please do not use this book.A far more accessible and technically correct book for your students would be Dale Carnegie's The Leader In You (How To Win Friends and Influence People). While Carnegie's book does not have "reading exercises" like a traditional textbook might, your students will get far more out of reading his book than Bovee's.
