3-0 out of 5 stars Great public speaking in one easy lesson?
In a single short cassette, containing the bare essence of the book, Roger Ailes distills the advice he has given countless politicians and business people about communicating. His advice is not terribly complex: be yourself, be interesting, be likable. The book title tells it all: you -- the totality of who you are, speech, gestures, tone, persona -- is as important to the mesasge you convey as the words you utter. The book makes perfect sense. But the problem is that speakers often don't know what it is about theiemselves that makes their speech unpersuasive. That's why folks like Ailes are in buisiness, to provide the objective feedback that breaks through the curtain of self-denial that many of us weave around ourselves.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
The book is very well written and the content are absolutely useful. A must-have to strengthen your communication and leadership skills.

3-0 out of 5 stars Read this book before appearing on the O'Reilly Factor
I read this book very carefully, particularly the section on talking to the media, and I took every word to heart.I made sure when I went home to greet the throng of reporters waiting for me at my apartment (after I returned home from my temporary Accountant position) that I would take control of the situation and not let the news media bully me around.I immediately addressed the first reporter, simultaneously addressing the question and taking control of the situation by firmly stating "our performance has been stellar, our revenues have increased markedly and so has our marketshare, making our company an even more attractive target for institutional investors..."

5-0 out of 5 stars Speed takes communication: How fast do you want to go?
Effective execution takes coordinated effort. Why is this seemingly obvious fact so difficult to experience? The authors do an excellent job of illustrating how effective listening provides the starting point for a level of interaction that allows disparate views to be heard and valued.
5-0 out of 5 stars Apply These Principles
I was introduced to this book by a colleague at a former employer. If you feel like you are building consensus, driving decisions or winning arguments - only to learn later that nothing is sticking "because of the other guy" - then you owe it to yourself to read this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars refreshing and effective
The authors have offered a refreshing and effective model for communicating. The search for an intersection of facts, views, and intent makes incredible sense.I am using this model in all of my work and making progress in creating more value and less waste.I love their vocabulary.Buy this book if you want to make a positive and significant difference in the manner in which you communicate to those you want to influence, inspire and transform. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Proper Examination and Explanation of Human Action
If you have found most personality tests insignificant, unhelpful, or unrevealing, then perhaps this book is for you. Human Dynamics goes into much more depth and provides a greater understanding of human communication and actions than any simple personality test. While people can be placed into certain "dynamics," these dynamics are not nearly as restraining or stereotypical as personality tests tend to be. Rather than explaining one's personality, dynamics explain how groups of people tend to process information, not necessarily how aggressive, passive, or "likeable" they are. This book helped me in terms of personal discovery, and has also helped me understand why it always seemed that so many people "just never seemed to think like me."

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Models to describe human personality are presented. Each model has itunique characteristics, its strengths and weaknesses. Each model willrespond most effectively to certain modes of communications. Thisunderstanding of the different models presented will help a manager, ateacher, a student or just about anybody to understand themselves andpeople around them better. This will enable better communication of ideasand thoughts. Students will learn better and managers will be able tocommunicate more effectively with individuals. The models can be taken upto an organizational level. The applications of this book are far and wide.It is also simply and clearly written.

5-0 out of 5 stars improving teamwork in your organisation, family & community
the first time that I have found an approach which looks at humans holistically and systemically. It is not a group of personality characteristics describing superficial behaviours, buta way ofunderstanding and recognising internal processes particular to varioushuman dynamics. It therefore goes much deeper than any other personalityassessment technique I have seen and because of this can not be reduced toa paper and pencil test. However, the gift this approach brings is that itcan be taught to everyday people and can provide access to betterrelationships and a greater understanding of how to release our judgementof others.A truly life changing book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This books gives great tips and suggestions on how to start conversations. It even give you sample ice breakers.Good book to have and keep around to refresh your small talk skills.

1-0 out of 5 stars Highly Overrated
I consider my self pretty well read in this genre of self-help books. The first thing I would share with anyone reading this review is that the advice offered in this book is pretty obvious and sometimes just plain bizarre.I know this has been shared in other reviews of this book, but after reading some other "independent" reviews of this book I felt compelled to tell you the honest truth about this book. The lines offered in this book on initiating conversation with strangers in social settings made me and my sister laugh while reading them. They are both awkward and bizarre at the same time.If you're looking for a good book on sharpening your social skills keep moving cause this is not the one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not enough information for a book....
The key points of this book would fit nicely into about 15-20 of it's small printed pages... I can summarize the content in this review. First the author gives her history... Next, she explains to not be shy and to approach people in conversation and people standing alone.... She stresses that you must really strive to take an interest and care for the people you are talking with. She tells you to only ask engaging questions (e.g. What have you done today? Instead of How was your day?) She devotes a few pages to body language and tells you to take note to always remember the other persons name and.... then she explains how to gracefully exit a conversation by leading out with "I have to go...". While I don't find myself in disagreement with Ms. Fine on any of her advice, I did feel about 75% of the book is common knowledge.... I read the entire book in a 2 hour period and because I felt like I didn't learn much I don't recommend it without picking up a copy and skimming through it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Resource for Productive Conversations
I like books that are practical and have real-world application. This book does that. You get 48 pages of enough explanation that you can learn how to use the Focused Conversation model. Then, you get the skeleton of 100 conversations that you can adapt and use. If you want to know more, read on.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Model
Ultimately conversations are the working process of most leadership. This book expands upon the conversation techniques presented in "Winning Through Participation".The model is simple and useful. When distilled down, a focused conversation proceeds through four stages:5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and Powerful Concept
Brian Stanfield and colleagues have written a meaningful book that provides a profound, yet simple method to help groups effectively grapple and address any kind of issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Like It
I found this book to be very effective. It's modular format made it easy to adapt to my classes, one on the Internet . . . no more taking page numbers from here and there. The examples were useful, with more on the Website. The students said it was good, too.I've used the old and the new versions. The new version has updated information and some new examples and assignments.I'm glad the "Polishing your Prose" assignments were kept.I assign these to students for self-study and see improvements in their grammar.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Few business writing texts balance salient instruction with an easy-to-read writing style.Business Communication:Building Critical Skills does just that.None of the textbooks I've used scored as highly with the students for effectiveness and easy use as this book.As anyone who teaches writing knows, students frequently complain about the textbook regardless of how good it is.Usually those students are the ones that do poorly in the class. But this book satisfied just about everybody including me.The authors manage to cut all the unnecessary information books of this kind usually are crammed with and get to the point. The exercises are great and have real world application, and the many grammar refreshers helped improve my students' writing. It's especially good for non-native speakers of English. This book seems well designed for teachers and students, and I would recommend it to both groups. The book is also cheaper than many competing books, which makes it even more attractive for students on a tight budget, which is most students today.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mistakes over Mistakes
Despite the fact that the book focuses on Business Communications, it still will not help students to achieve better communication skills (at least not with this issue). The book is full of logical and typological mistakes. Sorry but this will not work for a book that is trying to improve communication. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Radtke hits the mark
Radtke takes a generally vague term "P.R" and makes specific, detailed entry ways that prove essential in the creation of a public relations framework. The text concentrates on breaking up tasks into manageable units from the creation of the perfect mission statement to completion of an internal audit. The internal audit is a great example of the way Radtke approaches every angle of the P.R. question; Radtke isn't just focused on demographics (or psychographics or geographics--all are explained here) or target audiences but she also encourages readers to investigate the inner workings of their specific organization.By examining the specific organization (from the number of phones to the personality of the staff) Radtke helps you design the most appropriate plan for your non-profit group. The accompanying C.D. helps you utilize the detailed models in the text and it's terribly easy to use, making the learning process much more fun.My only complaint would be that the information presented is a bit dense, making steady reading somewhat difficult. However, I reccomend Lawrence Wallack's straight forward "News for a Change" as an aid to Radtke's detailed vision. However, Wallack doesn't tackle as many issues as Radtke and her text still stands alone. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars But is it worth the price?
This may be a good text for the subject but is outrageously priced at over $68. Even considering that textbooks are always overpriced, this book shouldn't cost more than $40.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tremendous aid for understanding how to turn your new product idea into a successful business
I launched a new product line several years ago - learning a lot along the way.I am getting ready to launch a new line of products and decided to read this book.It was a tremendous resource! So many of the answers that I had to dig for and learn the hard (and expensive) way - are contained here in one easy to read book.I highly endorse it.It is also very motivational (as you read the stories of other people) that decided to take action and turn their idea into a successful business.Well worth the price.Very well written.

This book does it all for anyone wanting to create/invent a product that they hope to bring to market.Tamara shares in a very easy-to-read format her experiences, her expertise and saves the rest of us lots of time, energy and money. Her mistakes made along the way combined with her successes that continue to grow provide the reader with a wealth of knowledge about researching, developing, patenting, protecting, marketing (and more!) an idea/invention.
