3-0 out of 5 stars Only just okay
This book has a lot of stuff in it.It's got a good overview of how to look at your supply chain starting with the supplier of your supplier, and going through to the customer of your customer.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best SCM Literature EVER!!
Finally, a book that explains supply chain strategy WITHOUT THE HYPE AND BUZZ WORDS!! The authors were right...this book should've been written years ago coz it will definitely enlighten those trying to unravel the intricacies in crafting a supply chain strategy. This book emphasizes the vital link between business objectives and supply chain strategy. The 5 core principles and its practical applications are discussed opposite real life examples of world class companies like Eli Lilly, Autoliv and the DoD, "the largest supply chain in the world." The frequent reference to the SCOR Model in the book only emphasize the power of the model in crafting and executing the 5 core principles the authors talk about. DON'T LEAVE FOR THE OFFICE WITHOUT THIS!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great advice, poor accent
These best kept secrets aren't very well kept secrets, because I knew most of them already.I heard some of these secrets from other sources before I heard them from Peter Thomson. However, they are great communication skills and they do work.I just didn't like Peter Thomson's low-pitched English accent and voice very much.I found it hard to concentrate on what he was saying even when I was using some of his listening techniques.I had to turn the volume way up and the bass way down on my car stereo in order to digest what he was saying.Maybe his book would be better for me.Overall, it's a very good audio cd if you can stand to listen to it. (4.5 stars)

5-0 out of 5 stars Listen to this to improve your communication skills!
Peter Thompson gives a comprehensive method of improving your communication skills. He gives 9 "secrets" and expounds on them, giving examples, defining them, and tell you how to improve them. These secrets (not in any particular order) include active listening, using body language, asking questions, and others.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars examples
This book does cover all the important topics clearly. Unfortunately, the examples used in the book are 'corny' and distract from the important concepts leading to unneeded text and dreadful thoughts of 'The clip joint' and 'the solar powered cookie oven'. The grammar used in this book is a bit strange; don't, won't, etc appear frequently. This is somewhat odd as bernake was a former Fed governor and abel is also distinguised. I think that, perhaps, the authors attempted to 'dumb down' the book and in the process managed to merely make it corny. I also am a bit appalled at the amount of space given to math - it seems the authors wanted it to be more 'accessible'.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook
This is an excellent textbook as a forerunner to more difficult books such as Branson. It deals with each of the major issues clearly and competently. The text boxes are excellent case studies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely outstanding
I am a graphic design professional and the daily application, negotiation and consideration of 'communication' in all of its forms impacts my work, and this is mostly referring to the communication that occurs between people and societies, over and above that of 'designed communication' through the products of a graphic design project. I commenced a Masters Degree in Organisational and Professional Communication, and found that this text was far superior to everything I was presented in the degree... this book crystalises every pivotal concept, in clear, accessible, and credible language... but most of all bridges the gap between academia and actual practice. I'm so thrilled with this book. It's like a bible to everything that matters... understanding more about the nature of human beings and relationships in all aspects of modern life. I would recommend this book to literally anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Making Org Comm Understandable
I am a communication graduate student, so I've read a lot of organization communication texts and readers. I've read my Weick, my Mumby, my Deetz, my Jablin, my Putnam & my Poole. While I would never suggest that anyone ever forgo reading primary sources, who can argue that sometimes we just lack the time to read everything we would like to? That is where this book comes in.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Strong Media Tips Here
The author gives simple and easy-to-use tips here on exactly how to prepare for an interview. It is an excellent job of de-mystifying the whole interview process.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped Me With An Interview
I am in politics and have done a fair number of media interviews. One thing that set me off in the book was a quote from a journalist that politicians were no good at media. (The actual language is a lot stronger). At first I took offense, but after reading Merlis' book, I realized that most of us in the political arena are being overly formula-driven, canned, artificial and that this only adds to public disillusion with the political system.Read more

The book I bought from Eric was in excellent condition, plus it arrived only 3 days after I had purchased it! Great service, perfect product!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
I have never been too crazy about or never been good at economics, but after reading this book, I feel I understand the real-world economics better. For a novice like me, it is relatively easy to follow the contents because it's full of examples from real business world. I assume this book will be satisfactory to more "academic" readers too because the book still doesn't fail to cover real economic materials like graphs and theories.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
This book provides an excellent background for learning applied managerial economics.Mr. Baye uses interesting real-world examples, which is difficult when writing about the entirely hypothetical world ofmicro-economics.I felt that the section on Game Theory was especiallyuseful in explaining real world market paricipant behavior in pricingdecisions.Overall, I would highly recommend this book for both studentsof economics, as well as those non-students seeking a weekend of lightreading in the topic of economics. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Looking for the basics in CR, this is your book!!!
This is a great intro to the skills of a mediator, or just a human being in this day and age.Daniel Dana is a leading teacher in this area.Anyone who is looking to attain this skill will be greatly served by reading this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy book for resolving conflicts.
This book gives the main points in simple language that anyone can understand.Further all the points and key terms a mediator needs to remember are hightlighted and enclosed in boxes on the relevant pages.5-0 out of 5 stars Usable information
I found this book to be of tremendous value. Conflict Resolution is an easy to read resource that is full of practical information that can be applied immediately on the job. It is not only a must-have for managers and supervisors, but also an essential resource for anyone who would like to have more effective relationships and live a conflict free life. Daniel Dana writes with a friendly and often humorus style and it is clear that he has a vast knowledge of this topic. He has a great ability to take a complex subject and make it simple and easy to use with specific "how-to" steps, and that really makes this book valuable to me. I have now successfully used the resolution approaches outlined in this book both in my profession as a consultant and trainer, and in a family conflict situation that was causing a lot of pain. Additionally, the ideas in this book have worked for me in both one-on-one conflicts and group conflicts. The bottom line - this works. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful
I am actually using this book to help me implement a Kaizen program in a Fortune 500 company. It's useful and quite a good book. The author has been very helpful!

5-0 out of 5 stars A profound approach to empowering your employees
The Quick and Easy Kaizen system recognizes that every worker has hidden creative talent locked inside of them. Toyota successfully harnesses employee innovation, with over 1.5 million employee suggestions implemented each year. This represents about $300 million in annual savings that go straight to the bottom line. In his book, Norman Bodek discusses how the Quick and Easy Kaizen system becomes a powerful tool for bringing forth numerous small but significant improvement ideas from all employees.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fundamentals for improvements in operating effectiveness
For quite a long time, I try to figure out a strategy that can support the three generic ones such as low cost, differentiation and focus scope and go beyond for a corporate. Bunji Tozawa and Norman Bodek's The Idea Generator: Quick and Easy Kaizen offers a fundamental solution for my question. It did convince me why small, continuous, and alternative-seeking changes can benefit companies as well as individuals in them. Further, by volumes of examples and how-to information, I found their way matching the core idea in complex adaptive system theory: Creating an impact sensitive and interaction friendly environment in an organization can trigger more effectiveness than simply summing up the individual efforts respectively. They prove that by accumulating quick and easy improvements, the power and profit Kaizen activities result in will go beyond our imagination. I love this book and highly recommend it to the management level and frontline people in an organization together work for their viable future. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This book amazed me with its thorough and readable approach to a process that is at once simple and profound. Read this and you will learn how the cafe process has worked worldwide to bring people together for meaningful conversation. People who host cafes in the style explained in the book are able to create an atmosphere in which everyone can feel heard, can deeply listen to others and then halp weave the ideas together. I plan to use it for my workplace as well with community groups.
3-0 out of 5 stars Your mileage may vary
The theories and philosophical principles of The World Cafe are sound and powerful. What is not explored in this book--and should be--are the inconsistent results of what is promoted.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Talk
Authors David Isaacs and Juanita Brown came up with the idea for the World Caf when they tried to rescue a meeting in their home that was threatening to turn into a disaster. Leaders from the Skandia Corporation were supposed to have a discussion on their northern California home's beautiful patio. Unfortunately, it was pouring. Brown and Isaacs had to squeeze 24 Swedes into their living room. They hastily covered small TV tables with sheets of newsprint anchored with small flower vases. Soon, the place looked like a coffee shop. The delighted guests began conversing immediately, eventually moving among the small groups to hear what others had to say. Thus, the World Caf movement was born. Isaacs and Brown include many stories about ways that organizations have used World Caf conversations. They provide lists, drawings and discussion questions. Brown's commentary on process and principles weaves all this together. She makes grand claims for this approach, believing that conversation is the wave of the future and the best way for people to learn and change. Jargon alert: the authors truly adore New Age gobbledygook. One example suffices: "Optimum learning and development occur in systems in which there is a rich web of interactions, along with an environment of novelty where new opportunities and spaces of possibility can be explored." Despite such warm-hearted mush, we recommend this book to managers who are willing to experiment with an innovative meeting format that lets them synthesize experts' ideas with the experiences of their own people. ...
