5-0 out of 5 stars If you only buy one book on personality type, this should be it
I took the Myers Briggs personality test and learned a bit about personality type in communication and psych classes in college. But I wanted to know more. I wondered how I could figure out the personality types of others and use this information to help understand and communicate with others. I came across this book on Amazon and I think I purchased it because of all the great reviews. So I thought I should contribute a great review too. If you only buy one book on personality type I recommend this one. It's a great intro to type and it's very easy to understand. I refer back to it all the time. I also recommend "Just Your Type : Create the Relationship You've Always Wanted Using the Secrets of Personality Type" by the same authors, which matches all 16 personality types with each other, explains how type affects couple's interactions and suggests potential sources of conflict. Also very interesting. I would definitely purchase other books by these authors.
5-0 out of 5 stars Changed my way of seeing people!
This book has changed my life. It is amazing how much I learned about myself. Now I understand my wife and other people, and I don't judge them anymore. My relations to others is now easear and less stressfull. Thanks!

1-0 out of 5 stars This Book is a WASTE
I found the book to be a waste of time, energy, ink, and trees. It is nothing more then common sense re-emphasized. It gives a little bit of understanding the basic personality types, but does not give one the ability to "speed read". It basically says stuff like 'if a person is shy and doesnt socialize well, they are an introvert', well duhhh. DO NOT waste your money on piece-o-crap book. It is useless. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Full of mistakes
It appears that some fool edited the cautionary examples for correctness. (p. 34) The grammar is poor ("verboten" as a noun? (p. 85)), and the usage is non-standard (Commas are "trundled out"?(p.37)). Some passages are self-contradictory ("With Adjectives, p. 37).
4-0 out of 5 stars Efficient and entertaining, but slim for my personal taste
Written with lively and direct prose, Rene J. Cappon's guide to punctuation succeeds in being a useful resourse for the busy journalist. No reader need fear about getting bogged down in the finer points of periods. If such a situation threatens to occur, Capon is quick to suggest a workaround. This leaves the stickiest questions even stickier, a real prickle for someone as persnickety as me.But for the journalist, or journalism student, I heartily recommend it.5-0 out of 5 stars A Graceful, Witty Guide to Punctuation
As a professional editor for nearly two decades, I heartily recommend this book.Cappon's writing is clear, funny, and creative, and he makes the nuances of punctuation memorable. His reasoning is logical, and his explanations and examples are very helpful.Interestingly, though this is an Associated Press publication, some of the style differs from the official A.P. Stylebook. So if A.P. is your background, be aware of this.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars this book isn't the best
My professor loves this book.I don't know why; makes me wonder if she ever read it the way a student would. This book makes its point early on, and the rest of the paragraphs you will read are nothing more than tedious example after tedious example.I found that I could get by without reading much more than the first few sentences of each section, stopping every so often to take note of a vocabulary word or a concept that has a better word to describe it. Even worse is I'm doubtful that I will get a single penny at buyback for this thing as McGraw-Hill decided to screw me over by publishing the 9th edition of this very tedious book.I'm betting that there won't really be any differences, save for the cover. This book is tedious at best. That's all there is to it.It tries to make communicating at work seem hard and tedious and at times it would seem it doubts the intelligence of the reader by having sappy quotes from people like Sam Walton and Donald Trump.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellant condition
I received my book right away. It was in excellant condition, just as it was described. I would definitely buy from this seller again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Major impact to your career success...
Negotiating is a critical skill in just about all areas of life, but especially when you're supposed to be a leader at work.Michael Watkins' book Shaping the Game: The New Leader's Guide to Effective Negotiating does a very nice job in laying out the necessary skills, as well as giving you the strategic tools you need to be successful at it.
5-0 out of 5 stars The New "Getting to Yes"
For years "Getting to Yes" has been the standard introduction to negotiation.Frankly, the one-size-fits-all approach and win-win optimism of the book has gotten tired.Mike Watkin's "Shaping the Game" is the antidote.

2-0 out of 5 stars Geez...
Right away in the introduction the author states that people - actually, "Little Leaguers" - who complain of an "old boy" network or "glass ceiling" or other discrimination are actually just babies who don't have the skills as the Big Boys have to get them to the top.So I guess only white men have the gift of gab!Who would have thunkit! After reading that introduction alone I'm leery of reading the rest of the book; she sounds either terribly ignorant or is one of those motivational authors who honestly believe that we create everything in our realities and only a few magic mantras will do the trick.Possibly both.

5-0 out of 5 stars A tough read that is well worth the effort
If you wonder why smart people with education and experience keep making the same old mistakes you will want to read this book. Let me hasten to add, however, that reading Argyris is often arduous. He is a scholar and writes like one. Having said that, he does have the answers and it is worth the effort to slog through his prose and get them.
5-0 out of 5 stars *ESSENTIAL* for Managers & those considering 360 feedback
Chris Argyris' work is essential reading for the executive who truly wants to leverage his/her organization's culture and workforce capability into the ultimate long-term competitive advantage.4-0 out of 5 stars A classic in the field of organizational learning
Chris Argyris presents a classic in organizational learning. Some of the concepts explored and researched here form the basis for some of the priciples of the Learning Organization. Argyris discussion of theories-in-use, social virtues and skilled incompetence is a fascinating and eye-opening exercise.

I actually returned this book after leafing through it.It was a little disappointing and did not have much information other than common sense kind of info.Where was the meat?

4-0 out of 5 stars Review of Chapter Nine
As a class assignment, I closely studied chapter nine of 5-0 out of 5 stars Brief on Practices of Looking(with emphasis on Chapter 8)
In Practices of Looking, imagery in culture is shown to play on the way we perceive, initiate, and direct ourselves in our daily life. This book, indicates that we rely on imagery to guide us daily. This book explains how imagery is the most relied upon role model of today; basically, due to the fact that it is the most direct measure for a humans consumption of information. It provides input on how imagery sells goods through advertising, how images evoke personal memories, and how images can provide us with scientific data. In Society, Imagery can be found in all areas of the social arena. Influence of imagery is never counted alone in any arena. It is quoted in Practices of Looking "That images are never singular, discrete events, but are informed by a broader set of conditions and factors. The identity of science in correlation with imagery is explained in a wide spectrum of social engagements. Anything in the fine arts, film, television, and advertising, to visual data, can provide insight into the way we see things. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very useful and practical textbook!
I used an earlier edition while in graduate school and found it very helpful.Griffin has boiled down and concisely described about 30 or so communication theories. What's more, he does so in practical terms and concepts that college students can easily grasp and apply. While I believe that this text is more applicable to the undergrad than grad student, it is an excellent reference andtext. As a professor of communication, I now use it in my undergrad courses on communication theory.2-0 out of 5 stars terribly overpriced

5-0 out of 5 stars Right on the mark!Where have you guys been?
"The Customer Delight Principle" by Keiningham and Vavra is the missing link to the mystery of why customer satisfaction, which seems like a sound principle, has failed with so many companies.Customer satisfaction has been perceived as a sound principle (and quite frankly - a way of life) for many corporate research and marketing departments for many years.Anyone in the field would have to admit that, while the principle sounds solid, the end results have almost always been less than satisfactory. Perhaps down right poor.5-0 out of 5 stars The Customer Delight Principle

Peter Rost drops a bomb on the pharmaceutical industry in this fast-paced expose.I wish I had kept as detailed notes and records of my pharma career - my own book would have been a lot better.Dr. Rost doesn't just crack open the door to the drug industry; he kicks the damn thing down like The Terminator. The author, however, doesn't limit his criticism to only the drug companies; he is amazingly candid with his own mistakes, a refreshing and welcome addition that serves to increase his credibility.Readers will appreciate Rost's keen eye, as well as his ability to explain potentially tedious material in an interesting way. It's hard to believe post-Enron that companies can still be dumb enough to ignore the concerns of well-intentioned employees, concerns that have huge moral, legal and financial implications. This book will be eye opening for the uninitiated and sobering for industry veterans. For all, it should be required reading before your next trip to the doctor's office!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book-bad binding
I enjoyed the author's style and found several useful tips on improving my presentations. Given the accepted wisdom that an audience learns more from a speaker's visual presentation then his/her verbal presentation, his advice concerning acting out a presentation was very helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars A practical guide to excellence in communication
For most occasional speakers, help offered by a book used to be very limited. I have read a lot of communication books talking about smoke and spirits but, Granville N. Toogood offer us a comprehensive guide, plenty of examples, techniques and rules to apply. Do you think this book can improve communication in our business? My answer is clearlyaffirmative after reading the book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Great Title, not much for the Executive though
Similar to most of the reviews of the book the strong points include helping a person form effective communication with others. It has a nice foundation for people who are new to public speaking, and a reminder for those who have been doing it for a while.
5-0 out of 5 stars Granville is on point, correct and powerful.
We gave the book to all of our field management and had Granville come and share with them.A few comments from our people were;I wish i knew about this before, it will really help me get my point across quickly", another stated "I will order this book for the rest of my staff" and our President and CEO said Granville is on point, correct and powerful. ...
