5-0 out of 5 stars BUSINESS WRITING INSTRUCTION TAKES QUANTUM LEAP!
As a college business communication instructor and corporate writing consultant of 20+ years, I feel my career is about to take a quantum leap forward with my discovery of this magnificent compendium of materials.Mary Ellen Guffey has done ALL the hard work!Juicy, readable text:done.Riveting "inside" information on cool corporations:done.Web-based support?Manuals?PowerPoints?Videos?Done.Fresh writing prompts, some packaged with the research already done?Done. With my old text, I've been drowning in an attempt to supplement and update and enrich the dated material enough to keep it relevant and arresting. Now I'm finding that I have plenty of time to interact with students over their own writing and presentations.I've always felt one-on-one and small-group interaction to be a huge part of my mission as a classroom teacher. Thanks to Mary Ellen Guffey, I'm able to do more of it, while spending less time overall on take-home work.Thank you, Mary Ellen, from the trenches--not just for a marvelous tool, but for a whole toolbox full of them. ... The successful companies are not afraid to confront the problem when it arises and discuss it rationally.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great pairing Amazon!
When I read "Crucial Conversations" I found myself tearing through it in long spurts, driven by an intense interest in the authors' discussion of how we handle those tough circumstances life throws our way. It makes the case that we all need to understand our style for handling the inevitable duress of a difficult conversation, and they complement theories with excellent, actionable strategies that work well in the real world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
Dale Carnegie is one of the authors I have admired for so long. There are numerous reasons why this book is a classic one. He deeply believes that in every person there is good and you can approach it. Of course, there are many negative people who don't like this book because they see everything in black and white. Carnegie on the other side advocates a really delicate, positive and humane approach to everyone around you. It comes very close to "treat the others as you want them to treat you". I am sure that if everyone read and apply the principles in this wonderful book, the world will be a better place. I am sure that you will be pleased as well with his talent to really understand what drives people. Some of the key and basic motivators he discussed are sex and being important. His viewpoint is very close to the one of the bestselling author of scientfically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex. After all genius things are usually simple. Carnegie explores the human nature and common hot buttons together with the reader and gives you tools to manage and push them at your will with the help of numerous examples. I liked that the book is practical, easy and fun to read, and most of all that it delivers great value. I can not say the same for many other books. Definitely get a copy especially if you are a "good" person and prefer to treat people with respect and dignity.

5-0 out of 5 stars If only...
If everyone in the world read this book just once, it would be such a more enjoyable place to live in...

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic of Self Help Genre
This book may be the one that Created the genre. And what was true then is just as true today. One of the loveliest parts about this book are the stories and anecdotes from the time when it was written. It was a simpler time back then. And the people faced such different dilemas than we do today.Yet, the more things change, the more things stay the same. The humanity of this books comes through loud and clear. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Reference Book!
I've used the "Gregg" (as we refer to it in the office) for the past 7 years, and it's the only reference manual for grammar and punctuation that I need.I can find everything in this book!I love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Gregg Reference Manual is a Must Have!
My staff already had a Gregg Reference Manual, but they use it heavily and we obviously needed another copy so that one would always be available. Keeping in mind the manual's value to staff, I ordered two more, rather than one. It's our GO-TO reference. The final word!

3-0 out of 5 stars Handy, not new.
As a trainer, speaker and coach on the topic of building your business by referral, I have read and own most books written on the topics of networking, virtual networking, working a room, and connecting so of course I had to have this one!
5-0 out of 5 stars Book Builds Budding Banter (or the right way of networking)
I never considered myself a sales person. Yes, I've heard all the talk that we do sell ourselves every day from what we do on the job to meeting people to the offering of Girl Scout cookies every year at the office. But I never really imagined my being able to just go up to folks and getting to know them first.
5-0 out of 5 stars Right On!
As in all of Gitomer's books, they're simple but not simple minded. It is simply about understanding, cultivating and appreciating a connection.Be genuine, and don't short change those who you immediately don't see can "do something" for you. Give first and give again.Love his insights on nonprofits and trade orgs-- he shows where most fail, they join and wait for the networking to begin. You must participate, and I'm a big believer in participation should be at the board level. From years of various board positions, that is where the movers and shakers are. You'll appreciate his great personal life examples. You'll understand what it means to "walk your talk".This is one of the best books on networking.I'm buying several copies for clients and friends. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Creating relationships instead of schmoozing
I found this book quite inspirational. Although I love spending time with people talking and getting to know them better, I've always been leery of the concept of "networking." It brings to mind a picture of an insincere jerk working the room, brown-nosing the people who can help him get ahead and ignoring everyone else.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book. Great Ideas.
Keith Ferrazzi obviously understands the importance of career karma. He practices what he preaches and provides countless examples of ways to be an effective networker, build your personal brand, and expand your success. This book helps destroy many networking myths and teaches us that the one important rule in networking is to 'give' to the members of your network. Keith has built his own personal brand on his unique and innate relationship-building skills and he shares with us so many different ways to network, that every reader will be able to find the ones that are authentic for them.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Relationship Approach
I was in the middle of reading Keith's book and took it with me on a recent cruise vacation.I recognized the same book being read by a fellow traveler and introduced myself. We chatted about the book and our businesses and exchanged business cards. The presence of the book itself was the perfect introduction to our conversation!Fun, fabulous, and completely natural is how I would describe Keith Ferrazzi's approach to building a network as wide (and deep) as you want. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone!
Crucial Confrontations is written very well, is interesting and is applicational for every aspect of life. The book was so helpful, after reading it in one weekend, I bought 8 more copies to give to my executive team members. Well done and thanks for the years of research that went into the book.I use the communication techniques outlined on a regular basis and they really, REALLY work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sounds great, but implementation?
The ideas presented in this book seem to be excellent ways to have critical oonversations, but I found two things lacking.First, reading about conversations and making them happen are two different things.Although it's no fault of the book, I think it will be difficult to put these easily into play without practice.
5-0 out of 5 stars Crucial Confrontations, excellent choice
As a continuation of Crucial Conversations this is an excellent book. It gives solutions that can be put into practice in every area of my life. It is a very powerful book. With practice, the choice of responding rather than reacting becomes second nature. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This is a short and concise book . I used it in one of my graduate courses, and found it very helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading
I used a previous edition of Ms. Munter's book as a text in a graduate course in management communications. The latest edition adds some new subjects and is still one of the best books on the subject. If you could only have one book on this subject this would be a good choice. Even though this book covers a broad base of communication skills (strategy, written, verbal and non-verbal, typography, graphical and prepresentation skills), each subject is covered in considerable depth. This book should be on the office shelf of every manager who needs to communicate effectively.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful in Understanding Globalization
Most discussion of globalization consists of uninformed opinion that is not worth listening to or reading. Not so with "Making Globalization Work" - the author is a Nobel prize-winner in economics and has worked at the IMF and the White House. He provides an excellent summary of the current problems with globalization, and a number of suggestions for improvement.
5-0 out of 5 stars Globalization is the greatest reorganization of the world since the Industrial Revolution
Globalization is an irreversable trend, and the current form of it led by transnational corporations that use their lobbies to create unfair trade agreements will drive us to the brink. Many have been misinformed about globalization by reading Thomas Friedman's pean to corporate globalization, a runaway bestseller.
5-0 out of 5 stars A well-informed and thought-provoking work
In this book, Stiglitz gave his advices on how to make globalization work for most of the population on earth:how the world - especially the developing countries - can reap the enormous benefits of globalization while containing the equally enormous problems -- problems well documented in his previous book "Globalization and Its Discontents" - that globalization creates.

1-0 out of 5 stars REALLY Lame
It is not worth the paper it is printed on... even at the Amazon price.
4-0 out of 5 stars Read this if you write!
For anyone who writes in a business environment-which is probably most people reading this-The Business Style Handbook is an extremely useful reference. I especially appreciated the introductory material, which provides the basis for great marketing copy for those of us who write and edit for a living. And it's a great relief to have a handy reference for handling all those marketing-speak and tech-speak neologisms and inconsistencies.
5-0 out of 5 stars How the Business Style Handbook Helped Me
I'm glad I had a copy of The Business Style Handbook when a big argument erupted in my department. One group said you have to write "an NYSE stock" while another said you have to write "a NSYE stock." I took out a copy of The Business Style Handbook (which my wife gave me for Christmas to help me improve my e-mail) to settle the dispute. By the way, it should be written "an NYSE stock."It's one of the first times I've been on the right side of a grammar argument. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A handbook for world changers
No matter how you identify yourself in the human ecosystem -- worker bee, sheriff, manager, capitalist, entrepreneur, politician, healer, parent, activist or consultant -- this book is going to turn on lights in your brain. It's that multi-layered. It's also that packed with the kind of simply brilliant insights that are totally familiar, and you wonder why you didn't remember that you knew that.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Starfish and the Spider ... Yes!
I have a childhood memory of building a go-cart. Every kid in the neighborhood was involved. Who was in charge? Whoever had the right answer in the moment of the next right thing to do. Hands, hearts, minds worked together, one idea building on another. It was an emergent experience in every sense of the word. The go-cart was more beautiful and functional than any one of us could have built alone.
3-0 out of 5 stars Logical Flaw
I must preface by saying I know nothing about starfish, and I have not read this book.I have read several positive reviews of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars AN INTRIGUING "HOW-TO" OF LEADERSHIP COMMUNICATIONS
Baldoni's "Great Communication Secrets Of Great Leaders" is a well-researched and highly readable "how-to" of leadership communications. This author knows his material, and presents it through the interesting device of linking principles to some of the world's leading communicators. It was refreshing to read a business-centered book that focus specifically on the communication aspects of leadership, which Baldoni obviously understands quite well. As a former professional actor, I also enjoyed how the author links dynamic presentations to effective performance. This book is well worth the modest cover price.A definite "buy!" ... Read more

These products did not come about as the result of successful companies carrying out sound business practices in established markets. In Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mind-Expanding
This is one of the best -- and scariest -- business books I've ever read. Christensen clearly illustrates why many of the 'tried and true' formulas really don't work. His research is compelling and is presented clearly enough for non-technical readers. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

5-0 out of 5 stars Counterintuitive, well-supported, and powerful
This text excels on several levels:It is very readable, and tells a story which is understandable and compelling even at a cursory pace. For the motivated reader, digging deeper, especially spending time on the introduction and each chapter's endnotes, there is a huge amount of data and insight into that data that is well-structured for assimilation. Finally, the theories presented, once understood, become both a lens for interpreting past and current market dynamics, and set the stage for deployable actions in a number of industries.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clear directions on creating trust
Being trusted by their clients separates successful advisors and consultants from the corporate consigliores. But how does a qualified advisor become trusted? Authors David H. Maister, Charles H. Green and Robert M. Galford provide methods you can use to reach the inner circle. They break trust into its component parts and reassemble those pieces into a viable, practical model, complete with suggested conversations. That may sound a little robotic, but with practice, an advisor can make the transition from outside technician to habitu of the inner sanctum. This readable book includes a useful appendix and a list of quick references. We recommend it to consultants and professional service providers. We trust you'll know what to do with it.
