1-0 out of 5 stars Image Matters! First Steps on the Journey to Your Best Self
This book is chock full of material that has been seen by this reader many, many times. I find it to be quite ordinary and it was torturous reading to say the least. There is not a single fragment of original thought to be found here and from a mans' point of view you could learn more by simply flipping through the pages of a GQ magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars As Seen on CNBC, August 7, 2003
The author, Lauren Solomon, was interviewed on CNBC Thursday, August 7, 2003.5-0 out of 5 stars Start Here Now
This is a great book to get your mind thinking about how much your image really does matter. It is clear and concise and provides a foundation for you to do further exploration in any area you find interesting. I praticularly enjoyed the sections on the "closet cleanse" and "your propellers, maintainers, and drainers".It has more than the usual wardrobe advice, it includes life living concepts that you can embrace now.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Return to Basics
Watson's book is needed for much of what ails business today. It returns to the basic premise that good character is important to long-term success in business, which was lost during the shift to behaviorism in the 40's through the 70's.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best fashion book I've found!
This little book is the absolute best fashion book I've found, and I've looked at alot of them. This book helped me, a non-fashion type person, figure out what I look good in and redo my wardrobe. Now, I only see clothes I use and like in my closet, and I have plenty of clothes! Pretty great news for a non-fashion, short and not slim person!:)
3-0 out of 5 stars Simple IS easy, after reading this book.
Since I was curious after reading all the great reviews, I borrowed this book from the library. It is a pretty good book, but not worth the high prices they're asking on the used market unless it's autographed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dying does not devalue your work!
This wonderful book is not likely to be reprinted, unfortunately, after the death in 2004 of co-author Olivia Goldsmith (which was the writer name of Justine Rendal, born Randy Goldfield), who died of a reaction to anesthesia during cosmetic surgery. That doesn't discount her as a fashion consultant, now, does it?She changed her name to suit her purposes, and she reassures us that girls who think their bodies are too big can change their style and look great in their clothes--we've got the power if we've got the nerve! If she wanted surgery and had the means to afford it, I say go for it, and don't let fear stop you.Better dead than afraid to go for what you want, and the people who criticize her for it can hole up in their apartments and tell the rest of us what not to do with our lives, eh?

3-0 out of 5 stars A misleading 'book'
I'd say that readers expecting anything of substance relating to any of the topics discussed in this book should look elsewhere.
4-0 out of 5 stars It's actually 2 books in 1
After I bought this book I learned that it is actually 2 books in 1--"Esquire's Things a Man Should Know About Sex" and "Esquire's Things a Man Should Know About Handshakes, White Lies, and Which Fork Goes Where." You should definitely buy this book instead of the other 2, because it is twice as long for the same price. This book consists almost entirely of 1- or 2-sentence paragraphs with pithy advice about how to behave in the workplace, how to dress, and how to woo women and behave in the bedroom. It also has a few etiquette questions and answers and top ten lists (such as things not to do in a certain situation, etc.) thrown in for good measure. A good humorous reference for men and useful for women as well so they can understand men better (maybe). I recommend it for short-attention-span reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun ride through Gender Studies...

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but nothing new here...
It seems that in our ever-increasingly casual society, we have lost some of our common sense when dressing for the office. This book has no surprises - there are no hidden secrets for compiling a work wardrobe - if we put a bit of thought into it, I'm sure most people could determine on their own that belly tops, sandals, frayed jeans, see-through blouses and poor grooming are potentially career-limiting moves.5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate guide to looking your best...
If you are looking for a comprehensive guide to making a positive impact through appearance, this is your book.I am a recruiter with a Fortune 100 company in the US, and a professional image consultant recommended this book to me when I originally began my position. As a person who was looking for solid guidelines around professional dressing, as well as a reference for others who are looking to improve their appearance, I have found no other book to be comparable.5-0 out of 5 stars An essential part of a working wardrobe.
This book is an excellent guide to dressing for the workplace regardless of where you work. I especially liked the sections on business casual (for both men and women). This section helped me to see that, though I am a manager in my firm, I was dressing like the delivery man. There are so many options for dressing these days and dress has become so casual that we lose sight of the impact that our clothing has on others and the subtle signals we send. The authors do an excellent job of demonstrating how important dress is, especially for women. And, it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg to dress well, it just takes conscious buying and this book as your guide. If you feel like you are not making the impact at work and maybe in your life that you would like to make, get this book. Perhaps your appearance is sending a different message. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars not enough information to make it worth it
Luckily this book can be read in a sitting...big text and few pages.Too bad there isn't enough information to make it worth sitting long enough to read. This book commits the single biggest mistake that any fashion book can commit: it doesn't have pictures (especially color pictures) of the things it is talking about.Wonder what worsted wool gabardine is?I sure do!They give a definition but no picture is present for me to understand how this is different from some other kind of lightweight wool.4-0 out of 5 stars Decent job on an obscure subject.
The first third or half of the book is a waste of time. But the rest makes it worth buying.4-0 out of 5 stars a good solid book

3-0 out of 5 stars Dressing for Work
Smart womem dress to get better jobs and better pay. Mr. Molloy tells you what to wear and why.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a catchy title, "Woman's dress for success"...
Well, fellow book lovers, if your loved one has terrible fashion sense in the workplace or is just bothered by the way she looks when she goes out. "The New Woman's Dress for Success" is a perfect "How to Dress" book for the new wave. It carefully depicts situation by situation which apparel is acceptable for the work place. I feel that this book should be read by every woman. However, the tips in this book are quite self-explantory. Take some time and read up on this book ladies...3-0 out of 5 stars A time capsule
Molloy's original Woman's Dress for Success Book is well written and full of information for women entering the work force in the 1970's and early 80's. It shows what the first professional working women had to go thru toestablish themselves in a man's world. But not much of the book is relevantto the year 2000. I hope Molloy pulls up a chair to his computer soon andgives us an edition for the new millenium ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read!
Self-help books tend to be either insightful or dumb. Author Ann Marie Sabath manages to accomplish both results in the same book. At times, the book provides useful examples on topics that are truly unclear, but other times it tells you to wear your goulashes in the snow. If you are willing to shift through some incredible obviousness, then you will find enough pearls. The lists of common mistakes that start each chapter are particularly helpful. If you do nothing else, read these lists and find out if you are committing a dressing gaff. If you can honestly say that you have not or never will commit any of the mistakes on the lists then you are ready to navigate the business casual workplace confidently.

3-0 out of 5 stars A decent overview
This book is certainly easy to read and presents some very solid advice. It covers a wide variety of topics from heel heights to skirt lengths, fromthe rules about wearing cologne to protocol for wearing nose rings atwork(don't!).However, I was disappointed that it contained not a singleillustration, as I would think that a book purporting to help people learnhow to dress for work might include a few sketches or photos...a picturebeing worth a thousand words, you know. In addition, several topics (theskirt length issue, for example) were repeated numerous times, which wasannoying to say the least. Finally, I found the pagination system to bedeceptive at best. The text STARTS on page 15 and the last few pages of thebook are devoted to things like "about the author" and an index. By my count, you really only get 185 pages of text.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for today's professional
Sabath has done an excellent job of condensing a potentially huge body ofadvice into a readable book that's not at all pretentious or sermon-like. She covers the gamut of issues from how NOT to dress in a business casualenvironment to how TO dress in an environment that's not business casual. She also spends some useful time on what to wear on casual Friday's in anotherwise professionally-dressed work environment.I highly recommend thisbook to both corporate and government professionals, and definitely toanyone preparing for interviews in either environment. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Good tips but outdated photos
The author gives some good tips on color, basic items to buy and styles but the photos are terrible. They are extremely outdated - who wears denim jeans with animal print and belts printed on them?Or jeans splattered with paint that look like a bad spinart project. The few photos that are in the book are very outdated. The author also trys to pair a scarf with everything.Maybe I'm too young for this book but I was trying to find something that would show me how to put together a professional look.I'm still looking.
