5-0 out of 5 stars A look at leadership from the inside out
If you do a search of available Amazon books on professional and technical leadership you'll find about 60,000 entries. Many of these books will focus on the qualities possessed by great leaders or the characteristics one needs to be successful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very pragmatic, useful book - every manager should read it!
Alpha Male Syndrome is a very well written and very useful book. It breaks down the various types of alpha behavior in ways that make the information actionable - how to deal with an alpha boss or colleague, how to be a more effective alpha executive - and how to apply those lessons to improve your home life.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best book every written about alpha males!
“The Alpha Male Syndrome” is an amazing book! Well-written, insightful, and real contribution to the field! Eddie and Kate have done an incredible job! As an executive and CEO Coach with publishing experience I know first hand just how difficult it is put on paper the important insights about Alpha Males and their issues in today’s corporate environment. The book certainly has the look and feel of a best seller.

This book was good but not terrific. after reading best sellers like Why we want you to be rich by Donald TRump and God Doesn't run a $2 Shop by Sage Saint Francis i found that this book just was not in the same leauge.
5-0 out of 5 stars It ain't changed in the Boardroom
This book, taken with due care, is still the Bible for how to dress for success. There have been some contemporary changes in business dress. But if you are not a rock star or a computer whiz, don't bet your career that dressing like one will get you to the Executive Suite.
1-0 out of 5 stars A dandy is a flash chap
A "dandy" was in the 19th century a man who dressed in the latest styles. For example, he was careful to wear a top hat and thunder and lightning trousers in the 1840s.

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Revelation and Devastating Indictment
This is rare book on the subject of menswear, a book that is intelligent, witty and above all totally revelatory. It is worth having on your shelf to read and read again, for it only gets better with time. This is a book for any man who has ever dismissed elegant dressing for men as a pastime for effeminate fashion fops. Indeed, even if polemic is something Antongiavanni largely eshews, it is the most damning thing written about the state of the current textile industry as has ever been penned. For it reveals a nasty secret that fashion industry fops want to keep a secret from you: that there are two models in the textile industry. The first is the traditional one where quality texiles sell themselves. The second is one based on the realisation that if you invest heavily enough in advertising you can get away with peddling frightfully mediocre rubbish (lower quality fabrics with shoddy construction) in grostequesly affected styles that will be out of date in a season. Sadly. these couture houses such as Armanis, Versaces, Dolce & Gabannas, Cavallis, Hugo Bosses of the world along with countless others base themselves on the second model. The average man understandably prefers to wear slobwear than to become their wretched fashion victim, for he intuitively suspects that the emperor is naked. Here Antongiovanni dares to expose the truth of the matter and becomes a saving grace for those few men willing to be led out of the ridiculous and nightmarish world of catwalk costume back to a world where elegant dressing was as much a masculine imperative of a self respecting man as is today driving a nice car, owning his own house, sporting the fanciest gadget whether that be electronic, or a sports item. Ultimately that leads us to the ancient art of the bespoke tailor, able to dress to flatter even the most unflattering of figures. The exposition in delightful, pointed and witty prose of everything to the difference between the cut of suits from Savile Row to those of Rome and Naples, the difference in different fabrics such as wool, mohair, and cashmere are all given here in exquisite detail. The in depth knowledge of tailoring technique and textiles on display is simply breathtaking. Indeed if you asked any top bespoke artisan making shirts, suits or even shoes, they will tell you that this is truly a book that cuts past advertising hype to get to the heart of what makes up true quality in menswear. Some of the reviewers here on Amazon writing rave reviews of this book are themselves professional tailors, and Antongiovanni has clearly consulted professionals with respect to many of the subtler technical details.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sartorial Splendor tucked in Verbal Wit
This book will either confound or delight, depending upon one's tolerance for highly stylized prose and the literally superficial topic of men's attire.
5-0 out of 5 stars Delicious
I have been sampling 'The Suit' in small doses for the past few months since I first got it, not because it's unpalatable, but because it's delicious and like a fine meal, I don't want to finish this small book too quickly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still Relevant For Today
I was never a fan of Malloy's books when I first read them in the 1980s and 1990s. But I must admit that his basic principles hold true today. Classic attire is best for interviews and companies (such as pharmaceutical sales) that are still traditional suits-only fields. He is also correct when he says that the fashion industry works against professional attire for women, and that if you are excessively stylish in a corporate setting, you will lose credibility. Changing fashion styles are an incredible waste of money. However, you should disregard the outdated suits, rigid hairstyles and hard attache case in favor of more contemporary classic styles. A better book for that is "Dressing Smart" by Chic Simple Author Kim Johnson-Gross. Moreover, if you work in a creative field, you must not follow the navy & white starched formula of dressing--this could get you demoted. Malloy does mention this point, but doesn't really advise for creative jobs.

5-0 out of 5 stars read it and do what it says
All women should read it and do what it says.As a manager, I know what high importance is placed on presentation. In the workplace today, people have become too casual. Why not do all you can to earn more money, gain more respect and be percieved optimally as a professional? It is very easy for women to make wardrobe mistakes at the office today because of the sexy and casual fashions we see in all the stores. This is a bible for the working woman!

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic, Timeless Advice
This new edition of "Women's Dress for Success" covers a lot more than clothes and accessories, and is a treasure trove of advice for any woman interested in self improvement. For most of us, there is usually room for "image enhancement," in how we present ourselves to the world, as our way of dressing and speaking, etc. all sends a message. John Molloy's recommendations are also helpful if you are on a budget. His "fabric test," color combinations, and style tips will save you a lot of money, and you can even do well using his guidelines shopping in a thrift store! You will no longer buy without planning, the things in your closet will mix and match properly, and you will not buy something "just because it's on sale," and find later that it doesn't really look good with anything else you own.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good buy
If you're fresh out of college and are looking for a guide to how to dress in the workplace, this book is pretty useful. If you've been in the workforce a while then it can be used to enhance your wardrobe. The tips are abundant, the language clear with lots of illustrations. It's a good gift for any college graduate and the male version is good too. Of course job culture is always evolving and sometimes the book can appear dated. In conclusion, this book is a good place to start a professional looking wardrobe but common sense is also needed to fit the adivce to the specific character of your workplace.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent book about fashion
This book is a very good primer into the area of formal dress.
3-0 out of 5 stars Better, but not great
Much better than the same authors' "Dress Smart Men" in the Chic Simple series. Presents a variety of clothing combinations, many actually useful. Would have been better if it had been seperated into one book for men and one for women -- half the book is useless.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fashion Advice for Beginners
This is the sort of book one gives to new grads, people re-entering the workforce, people starting a new job in a different company/region/field/etc.Lots of visuals, which is always a good thing in fashion advice books. Some of the printed info could have been better arranged.(The creators need to sit down with all three of Edward Tufte's books.)The type face of some pages was waaaaaay too small!Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars idealizations of the classic
The headless, bodiless photos with waists unrealically nipped are less offensive than the usual fashion pages in the newspapers and magazines. The photos provide an idea on proportions, classic, expensive looks, what to approximate, not emulate.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fashion Is a Lifestyle
I really enjoyed this book even though I first hesitated at the price. Building and maintaining an up-to-date wardrobe is really a lifestyle that needs regular fine tuning. In this book, you are looking at your personal needs, understanding the elements of your own style and learning to choose what is right for you. You spend a alot of money on your clothes so choosing wisely is important. I also bought "Men's Wardrobe" as a gift.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great photos, need more ideas...
I thought that the photos were great. I thought the text was very odd. The font sizes jumped all around and seemed to consume a page that could have been half used to illustrate the point instead of +20 font size. Artsy is fine. But if I want to get the simple idea, I want it simple -- not 'dressed' up. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Could be better
I agree with the other reviewer....Elsa is definitely no nonsense ..to the point. 4-0 out of 5 stars nice photographs, useful tips
This is a very, very easy, quick read with lots of quotes, photographs, drawings, and checklists.Klensch is very no-nonsense, with advice on how to build a simple, bare-bones wardrobe. The chapters are broken down into career, business travel, evening, leisure, accessories, and cosmetics. The only humor or lightness I found in the entire book was that "good-luck charm" made this list of "long-flight must-haves."THis is one of those books that is useful and practical, but more as a reference guide than as a read-through.Although the advice is geared to women of all shapes and sizes, the photographs are all of rail-thin runway models.

3-0 out of 5 stars This book is mediocre.
It would help a lot if a color matching guide (palette) was included in the book. There are a variety of color interpretations made by clothing manufacturers, it is at times difficult to find the exact color match the author is suggesting. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good on professional image info, not so good on color and body line info
I am a fan of Doris Pooser and her "Always in Style" concepts of color and body line.I already own a copy of Always in Style and Secrets of Style. So I was very excited to see she had a new book out.I expected it to build upon her previously written books.I got it the other day and immediately began to read it and I was disappointed.
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent strategy guide
People form an initial impression of you within the first thirty seconds with half based on how your look, and only 38% on voice and body language: that's why A Woman's Guide To Success Perfecting Your Professional Image is so important to an achiever's plans. Doris Pooser is an expert in fashion and beauty and has written several other books on personal style for men and women, reaching millions through TV broadcasts as well as her writings. A Woman's Guide To Success tells how to blend clothing, style and body language to achieve business objectives. An excellent strategy guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars A primer for the choirmasters
We have all been witness to the lionisation, and thereafter, the demonisation of CEOs.5-0 out of 5 stars Build your CEO Capital
In CEO Capital, Leslie Gaines-Ross has written an insightful and enlightening book for those who want to increase the positive visibility and reputation of their CEO. It is a surprise to this reviewer that more books have not been written on the subject of how to master the art of building your reputation when both your own personal future and corporate future may be resting on it. 5-0 out of 5 stars CEO Capital by Leslie-Gaines-Ross
Immense credit must be given to Dr. Gaines-Ross who bravely and successfully takes on, notwithstanding the post Enron anti-CEO environment, the hypersensitive issue of CEO reputation. Yes, agrees Gaines-Ross, being a high profile, ego obsessed CEO is asking for trouble and is to be avoided like the plague. She refuses, however, to engage in the now fashionable tendency toward unrestrained CEO bashing, preferring instead a reasoned, astute and carefully researched analysis of the CEO's role.

5-0 out of 5 stars Things my mother tried to tell me.
As a former clothing buyer spending all of my work time selecting, presenting, and advertising the latest fashions I now wish I had Sherry's book to impress upon me personally how very important MY dress was to my success. She has impressed me with her convincing argument that although what you say is important, how you say it via dress is about 55% of that impression.I loved her real life, before and after stories which has left me paying much more attention to my new leisure image. Thanks Sherry!

I re-read this book again and realized how lazy I had gotten on my dress.I went through my closet again and anything that did not wow me, I through out.The last couple of months I have followed the guidelines of this book and have been amazed the way I am treated differently at work.My boss now includes me on meetings, that I never attended before and has given me a lot more responsibility.I went from sundresses and sandals to a much more professional dress and the results have been amazing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Feel comfortable in your own skin
I find it fascinating that the Library Journal review on this page should contrast "Personal Style" with Alan Flusser's great book, "Clothes and the Man," because I acquired both these titles at about the same time. And while Flusser's book was very influential on my then-developing sense of dress and style, the impact of Wagenvoord's book was much more limited and fleeting.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is pure "crap"
I should of paid more attention to the other reviews of this book before making my buying decision. My copy as well ended up in the garbage, where it belongs. Not only is the author inaccurate, most of the chapters are redundant; cut and paste statements. The individual that wrote this book should consider a new profession, and stop writing books. Needless to say, it deserves less than a 1 star. I am so mad at myself for wastingmy time and money on this piece of garbage.

3-0 out of 5 stars Would have been better with photos
There are some good pointers in this book but I would have liked to seen photos and more visual examples.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lacking depth
I am a firm believer in ongoing personal development, so I have continued to read and grow my perspective.Your Executive Image looked interesting because of attention given to clothing, space, gestures, etc...Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Redo your business card & stationary the right way!
I would have given this book 5 stars, however, it takes some time for the information to set in properly in ones mind before getting around to making a good business card that stands out.To many business cards today are too information heavy and need more white space.I saw several examples of good quality business cards (Moonstruck Choclatiers just being one of them) and other ok models.Digesting all the information presented takes time, however, if you are needing to make your own business card and stationary because you cannot afford a professional designer, this book is for you.Making your business card work for you should be your number one focus.

5-0 out of 5 stars An indispensible resource!
Anyone who has a business card of any kind can profit enormously from this book. Its a thick volume, but don't let that decieve you -- its actually a very quick read. Ms. Grant makes every page fly by with well-reasoned suggestions and literally hundreds of illustrated examples. Considering what an effective business card can mean to you, you'd be crazy to miss the information here.If you think your current business card is beyond improvement, read this book anyway -- for the price of a paperback, you can turn your business card into a better sales tool.
