5-0 out of 5 stars BUSINESS WRITING INSTRUCTION TAKES QUANTUM LEAP!
As a college business communication instructor and corporate writing consultant of 20+ years, I feel my career is about to take a quantum leap forward with my discovery of this magnificent compendium of materials.Mary Ellen Guffey has done ALL the hard work!Juicy, readable text:done.Riveting "inside" information on cool corporations:done.Web-based support?Manuals?PowerPoints?Videos?Done.Fresh writing prompts, some packaged with the research already done?Done. With my old text, I've been drowning in an attempt to supplement and update and enrich the dated material enough to keep it relevant and arresting. Now I'm finding that I have plenty of time to interact with students over their own writing and presentations.I've always felt one-on-one and small-group interaction to be a huge part of my mission as a classroom teacher. Thanks to Mary Ellen Guffey, I'm able to do more of it, while spending less time overall on take-home work.Thank you, Mary Ellen, from the trenches--not just for a marvelous tool, but for a whole toolbox full of them. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars REALLY Lame
It is not worth the paper it is printed on... even at the Amazon price.
4-0 out of 5 stars Read this if you write!
For anyone who writes in a business environment-which is probably most people reading this-The Business Style Handbook is an extremely useful reference. I especially appreciated the introductory material, which provides the basis for great marketing copy for those of us who write and edit for a living. And it's a great relief to have a handy reference for handling all those marketing-speak and tech-speak neologisms and inconsistencies.
5-0 out of 5 stars How the Business Style Handbook Helped Me
I'm glad I had a copy of The Business Style Handbook when a big argument erupted in my department. One group said you have to write "an NYSE stock" while another said you have to write "a NSYE stock." I took out a copy of The Business Style Handbook (which my wife gave me for Christmas to help me improve my e-mail) to settle the dispute. By the way, it should be written "an NYSE stock."It's one of the first times I've been on the right side of a grammar argument. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes Indeed.
Yes indeed this book was/is (I still crack it open)very helpful to me. Before I read this book, or took the class that used this book, I was a very bad speller. My grammer was poor and my writing technique was even worse. If this book helped me I am sure it will help you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for college and your career
Finally, a complete text that is always useful.I have read this book over and over... each time learning something new. It's great if you need a complete and extensive description or a quick overview. This book willgo from your college backpack to the desk of your new exciting job!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Guide to Business Writing
This book is an excellent tool for writing, especially for the non-native English writer. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a study guide with many examples that have been updated for the current business environment. The numerous samples and the grammar review are veryhelpful for studying the fundamentals. This book is extremely relevant in abusiness world crowded with a cornucopia of poor writing, misspelling, andincorrect grammar usage. My heartfelt thanks to Ms. Guffey for writing suchan excellent guide. ... Read more

This book was easy to read and very helpful in communication skills.

5-0 out of 5 stars One the best guides for business writers

5-0 out of 5 stars Warwick is a skillful writer
Warwick's writing style is extremely straightforward and clear. It was a pleasure to learn these tips on writing equally straightforward solicitation letters. What differentiates this book from other ones is that it is up-to-date and remains relevant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Non-Profit Should Have This Book
Fundraising is a very specialized area of copywriting and marketing. Unlike the more common direct mail letter wherein you are selling a product or service, fundraising often offers nothing more to the receipient than a chance to feel good about doing good.5-0 out of 5 stars The best book of its kind ...
There are many many books and courses on how to write a funding proposal but few out there on how to write and develop your organization's annual campaign. Fortunately Mal Warwick's is the only book you'll ever need. Thorough, loaded with examples, not only of solicitation letters but follow up and thank you letters as well -- if you're a development professional this is one book you must have on your shelf. Using Mal Warwick's books and website, along with a great deal of marketing reading, I successfully redesigned my organization's membership campaign - raising our overall donations by 33% the first year and an additional 25% the second year.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for someone in business or already in business
Found that this book covered all the bases of writting a great business plan.As some one who has taken a couple of business courses, this was one of the best sources of information on writting a business plan.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular book
Wonderfully helpful book. I love this series and can't wait to read them all. While writing my business plan, this book as been by my side, every second, for reference. I don't know what I would have done without it!

4-0 out of 5 stars A must read!
This is a must-read book for anyone thinking about starting or expanding a business. Rather than simply another book about writing a business plan, Sutton makes the case early and often about why such a plan is needed - and it isn't always to raise money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helps with more than "blogging"
I've read Ms. Weil's articles and e-newsletter for many years, because she writes in a way that's specific, clear beyond clear, and always answers the question, "why should my reader care...*really*?" (I work in marketing communications and so I'm not surprisingly a stickler for this). In her writing you always feel she's trying to be objective, and so you consider her credible. I was pleased that The Corporate Blogging Book possesses the same characteristics.

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite reference
I really like this book. it not only helps answer thing but makes suggestion and gives real world scenerios at end of a chapter. I use it mostly for a reference tool as chapters 1-11 pertain to CR XI report creation part, which is what I need refresh on the most. I do wish there was a good tool book that gave more on crystal syntax if anyone knows please email me, but this book helps get me thinking on the right track.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Solid Reference - But Poorly Organized
This is a solid book and a worthwhile reference.Unfortunately, the content organization is somewhat confusing--and the sheer size of the book makes it fairly difficult to find what you're looking for.
3-0 out of 5 stars Did not answer my question.
I purchased this book with the hope of figuring out how to produce a table of contents. Since database publishing tools are no longer produced I was trying reproduce the effect in Crystal Reports. I have 18 years experience using the Oracle Reporting tools and know how to produce what I need, however Oracle will no longer be supporting it's report toolset. There is an article on the Business Objects knowledge base on how to do this but it is written for SQL Sever and not Oracle. I was hoping that this book would go into this real world situation, it does not. I have also gone to the book's web site and asked for help, but no reply after 2 weeks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential for every marketer and sales pro
This book jumpstarts the creative juices in your head and gets you unstuck fast. I highly recommend it to you and attendees at my creative marketing and copywriting conferences.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic resource - bigger and better than ever!
I've owned this classic reference book for probably 15 years and used it continually at my desk. I recently bought the new edition to replace my tattered copy. Well worth it - the book has already repaid its cost, and then some, in a few weeks. It's much more comprehensive than the original while still easy to use. The language has a more up-to-date feel, yet the author seems to have kept the classic response-getting words and phrases that still pack a punch. Definitely worth the small investment even if you already own the old edition! Look into More Words That Sell, too - its emphasis on niche markets works nicely in conjunction with the all-purpose nature of Words That Sell.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes cliche's help
As someone who's spent more years writing copy than anyone should, I assure you these books can't make you creative, so they aren't much help with high-profile advertising. What they can do is help jump-start sentences for more prosaic marcom needs such as brochures, websites and DM letters. For that, they're handy tools...like a good wrench set for word mechanics. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome books!
I bought and used all four of Stephen Page's policy and procedure books. From the very first day, I was able to get up and running on a project that was very demanding and challenging. Not only did he provide examples, but he was always there for advice when I hit a rough spot.5-0 out of 5 stars Processes, Procedures, and Quality
I was impressed with the amount of useful information included in this book; everything seems to have been well thought out. It would appear that the author has "lived" his words and this is what makes this make book so useful to me. Because I know that when I implement his ideas that they will probably work. His case study is also very meaningful as he very carefully explains how to go from a labor-intensive procedure and go through process improvement, metrics, and arrive at a streamlined, high cost saving, new procedure.4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for quality professionals

It was alright for the course but it really should have been alot better. The book can be pretty condesending sometimes in the lessons and some of the names used in sentences are over used like Twileen, what a silly name indeed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for Beginning and Intermediate (3.5)
THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE ELECTRONIC EDITIONS OF "ESTABLISHING A SYSTEM OF POLICIES AND PROCEDURES" ... AND ... "7 STEPS TO BETTER WRITTEN POLICIES AND PROCEDURES".
5-0 out of 5 stars Precise and concise policy & procedure style guide
The format that Stephen Page lays out is concise and allows for "precision writing" by giving the author of any policy and procedure the appropriate building blocks that such a document should have. Now in the Sarbanes Oxley era the need to document internal controls- and the policies and procedures that frame those - can be documented in an easy to use, standardized format that reduces wordiness and makes the writer, reader and user focus on what is really important - the content.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Book for Writing Well Written Policies and Procedu
This book is just what is advertised, how to write better policies and procedures. It advocates the use of a writing format that makes for easy-to-read policies and procedures, a format that I know from conferences is used worldwide by many companies. This book is for procedure writers, not technical writers. And this book is not high-level, it is very detailed to the extent that my company has bought more than 25 of these books to hand out to each person who writes policies and procedures. While the book is very simple, it is still by far the best book I have read on the subject. I find the competition too convulted and they don't stay on the point. Not so with this author's books.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Resume for Dummies, Fourth Edition
I highly recommend that every job seeker, no matter what your status, read this book.No others will hold a candle to it.I would not be able to describe how much I would be struggling, if it were not for this book.Just take the time to relax, put your feet up and read it from cover to cover.Building my resume came next (I had never done one due to years of service at my previous employer) and I used so many tips in that book while writing it.It actually does a wonderful job of preparingyou for all aspects of yourjob search.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Writing Resumes
This was very helpful in writing my resume. The book is well written and very easy to follow. It brought to my attention things I had not thought to put in my resume so now I feel I covered all my bases. Recommend to anyone who wants to update their resume or anyone going out into the job market.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Resource for Anyone Seeking a Job!
This book is a great reference book to have if you're looking for a job. An engaging writing style, comprehensive information for every type of job seeker, and the usual "dummies" approach make this a must-have for your career reference library. I especially liked how much attention was given to "special situations," such as being an aging baby boomer, coming back to work after a gap, etc. I couldn't think of a situation that wasn't covered. I loved the 10-Point Resume Checklist at the end of the book. If you haven't got a killer resume after reading this book, then you're just not trying very hard! ... Read more
