4-0 out of 5 stars The relationship advice in this book is worth the price
Sure, this guy is pretty rude and in-your-face, but I can't say that he isn't honest. The part in the book where he talks about relationships is well worth the price of this book.To give you an idea of what he talks about when it comes to relationships, it's basically this:You don't need anybody, and if you do, the relationship is doomed. He talks about how people need their own space and their own friends, not to be too clingy or needy, and how independence attracts others. That chapter is the best advice on relationships I've ever read, and I've read quite a few.

4-0 out of 5 stars Straight Talk
I found Larry's staight forward manner kind of refreshing - considering one rarely finds such straight talk concerning life these days.Anyway, the material is a collage of self-help annecdotes mixed in with Larry's experiences.I would recommend this book as a quick and easy read that has some writing exercises sprinkled in.

5-0 out of 5 stars A cold bucket of water.
I bought this book in an airport, and by the time I got to my destination, I had read it, underlined it, and highlighted the heck out of it. It smacks you around, shakes you up and hangs you out, and it's been the greatest turn-around book I've read in many years. His deal with stress "Stress comes from knowing what's right and doing what's wrong"- or " Do not loan anyone your books"- wish I'd heard that years ago, I'd have a bigger library- are incredibly simple, but since we've all gotten to the point where simple is difficult, it really hits home.

3-0 out of 5 stars CLAD Text
A well written text essential for acquiring CLAD credentialing. Myths are perpetuated which greatly reduces the credibility - there is only one "race", humans or Homo sapiens. Very few of us were born or came from the Caucasus Mountains of eastern Europe, yet 17th century artificial constructs of "race" and "Caucasian" are used. There is no discussion of how skin pigmentation is an ecotype adaptation, not a "race." Science, Scientific American, Discovery and other peer-reviewed journals have corrected "race" misconceptions repeatedly - yet the authors, with education backgrounds, appear to have not completed a review of current literature.5-0 out of 5 stars Golden resource
I almost felt like I was cheating on the CLAD test. This handbook was a wonderful resource and the only one I used to pass the test .... the FIRST time!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Preparing to take the CLAD test.
Chapters 1 & 2 seemed very dry but I'm not big on theory. The remaining chapters were much more interesting. I highly recommend reading it before taking the CLAD test. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but not the best
For the most part, I enjoyed reading this new version of Think and Grow Rich. But it was a little disconcerting to be reading along here and there in a book written during the Great Depression and suddenly come across material about people like Bill Gates, Stephen Speilberg, Ray Kroc, Arnold Schartzenegger, Andy Grove, etc., etc.The information is nice, but I would just as soon have seen Dr. Pell write a separate, new book containing all this other information. It tends to get in the way of what Hill is saying. I have three or four other copies of Think and I compared them with this one.I notice that Pell has cut out a good bit of material from the original and that some material has beeen shifted around. It did not bother me especially, but I am not sure it was a good idea.If you collect Hill books like I do, you'll probably want to get this one, but there are better ones out there. Also, this must be a British book because a lot of the word spellings are not in American English.

5-0 out of 5 stars perfection!
whatever your position may be in the world, you owe it to your self to read this book! there are a few staples, and this is one of them. I am an agent at the top producing real estate office in a southern california area and i was number 69 out of 70 agents. by year end i am now at 40, and this was only my first year!i will read it again and you should do the same! THINK AND GROW RICH! Burt Bakman

5-0 out of 5 stars Setting the record straight -- this edition is great!
After reading the reviews (both postitive and negative), I bought a copy with an open mind, and can now report that this is a faithful, corrected edition of THINK & GROW RICH -- easier to read (better type size) and with nicer paper than some of the other editions. The small amount of added material the other reviewers are writing about by Arthur Pell is minimal, and set off by itself -- so it's not intrusive and if it doesn't enrich your reading, you can skip right over it.On the other hand, from my perspective, it is nice to have a few examples of TGR in action from the 20th century. But again, that added material is extremely short and set off by itself, and either way, this new edition is really terrific.A welcome edition. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Informative Read
This book was ideal for the doctoral class I just completed. The book thoroughly explained the salient points and provided useful information for further doctoral work. Although the book was scholarly, it was an easy and pleasant read. I recommend this book for anyone who wants a keener understanding of the organization as a system

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Work
This is an excellent book. The author does a fantastic job of explaining organizational theory from a conceptual perspective. The book does not spend a lot of time discussing research methodology. The book does a great job of presenting information in a form that a manager can use in evaluating various approaches to organizational behavior issues. This volume will certainly remain an important part of my toolkit!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!!
As a novice to organization theory, I am reading Hal Rainey's book on public organizations and this book. This book is well written and gives balanced points of view over various theories and perspectives in the organization studies. This book is adopted as required readings in many PhD courses on organization theory. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Greate Read and Interesting New Perspective on How things work in this Jungle
I got registered onto a few networking sites like Linkedin, Orkut and Hi5 in March and suddenly started thinking about term Network in social context. Being a computer engineer by profession and having worked on communication networks for last 5 years it was quite obvious to find parallels. And then I stuck upon this book. I must say i wasn't disapponted. Each Ideas has been built with convincing examples and is well supported by results from ongoing research being done by author. I would wait for him to write something on dissemination of information through social networks and network dynamics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended for the Technical Practitioner
In an informal survey held in a recent webinar, over 50% of the (several hundred) participants ranked "Word-of-Mouth" as the most typical source for leads that convert to paying customers. Interesting...!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read at the 1 year mark after Fish! 1
As a manager in a government agency, I utilized the first Fish! book with our team as a part of our Manager's meeting last year this time. It was widely regarded as the best meeting we've ever had. Everyone loved it. Everything that the first book indicated would happen did. It was really pretty awesome. We are now widely regarded as the the best shops in the state, largely because of the practices we put in place with the first book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Make Change Stick
The well known FISH! philosophy can be applied to the health care setting. In this series, the 6th floor of a local hospital is transformed by the FISH! philosophy started by a nurse manager. After she leaves, the health care administrators are concerned that the FISH! philosophy was just a gimick. They plan to ensure a lasting change. This is achieved by helping employees make an internal change of heart rather than only an external or pep rally type of change. The application to health care is very timely and may be very helpful to nurse managers and nursing staff, especially those who work on units with low morale.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Fish STINKS!
Chirpy ideas, bad writing.I feel sorry for the poor saps who get stuck being slaves under this motivational trash. In your job, to "make their day" is best made by giving them a paycheck, or better yet a raise. That's why people work. You have to "be there" otherwise you get fired. As for "play"?Heh.Who feels like "playing" when they feel like they're going to puke when they are force-fed this garbage at the office?

5-0 out of 5 stars Bible of Open Space
This is a very good hand-book for open space newcomers.Easy to understand and easy to read.I strongly suggest this book for anybody who want to start learning open space technology

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most valuable books in the world
As Brookings revealed in 2000, most of the world's 10000 biggest organisations don't yet have the measures to govern the vast majority of value now produced in services and knowledge businesses because as our networking age blossoms value dynamics are mainly intangible, deeply woven into the human relationships we self-organise, not for precise planning and overpowering command and control from the top. Value multiplication is a core gravity which should be embedded in everyone's right to work, learn , behave openly. 4-0 out of 5 stars a "How to" book
I recommend using open space tehcnology and/or other large scale intervention techniques to mine the collective emotional intelligence of a group of people (this may be your company, or people from an acadamic field you belong to). Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good. Helpful. Compelling-ish.
The parable of the software company in crisis was not the most thrilling read in the world, but considering it was means toward teaching me about the exciting world of corporate meetings, it was both effective and not boring.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hit Hard and Straight: A good use of my five hours
When I picked up this book I knew that there were some elements that I liked. It hooked me in the first ten-minutes because it held my attention just like a movie. It kept things going in a readible, conflict-change methodology as if I were watching it unfold like a television drama. It had a taste for talent, gossip, relationships, oh yeah and management tools that I could use too. This was a phenom book and would recommend it to anyone who's meeting did the suck dance like mine did.

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting on the Same Page
Death by Meeting has been an excellent resource for our team.It provided us a common format for discussion and planning that was quick to read and easy to implement. The difference between this book on meetings and most leadership books on anything is that other teammembers actaully READ the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just in time
I'm going through a difficult time at work. All the people in my department who were here when I started a year ago have left and I'm the last one left. The new hires are gossips and backstabbers and I found myself stooping to their level. We have evaluations and our first staff meeting meant to blame and accuse others coming up. I found this book just in time. Alot of this is positive reenforcement of concepts most people know but its great to have the reminder to me about how people behave and when to just let the small stuff go and its a great pick me up. I keep my copy in my purse and read it on breaks when co workers are getting me down.

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding addition to my library
An outstanding addition to my library, Edward systematically explores the presentation of data showing the value of data rich content when it is properly displayed. After reading half the book, I couldn't sit through a presentation without coming up with at least 3 ways to improve it.The illustrations in the book are beautifully rendered and cover a diverse set of subject matter each as interesting as the next. The only topic concerning this book that I struggled with is whether or not to mark it up.In the end, as I do with all of my books I intend to refer back to, I did.

I recieved this book along with the most excellent (almost a companion book) Visual Display of Quantitative Information, from my CEO. Since I work a lot with numbers and he had been stressing the importance of presenting data clearly and concisely.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fleshes out and expands the work Tufte has done on presenting information
"Envisioning Information" by Edward Tufte further fleshes out and expands the work he has done on presenting information. This volume is best suited for designers of complex information such as maps or schedules. As with his other books, it is richly illustrated with many colorful examples of well and poorly designed information displays.

5-0 out of 5 stars I am very pleased
The service I received was excellent. The delivery was speedy as promised.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lean Six Sigma
Having worked for a company that really made Six Sigma work, I was very interested in an extension of the processes. The process described has a lot of potential but the whole thing still revolves around a management cadre that are interested in the people and business output (business of business) of the company before profits.I recommend the book: it's an easy read and if you are interested in improving the performance of a business has some good ideas.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lean Six Sigma
The book is a small but effective book for people who want to know what Lean Six Sigma is.It covers the basic concepts of the methodology and is very good at it.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Old Favorite Brought Up to Date
This book has two real aspects.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Economics Book.
I just finished a Managerial Economics MBA course that used this text.I found it to be very well written compared to textbooks I've read for other classes.I think it does a good job explaining supply and demand, intro to pricing, and intro to strategy and game theory.Examples are used to improve the reader's "economic" intuition.I talked to a friend who just finished a differnt MBA program who used this book.He recommended the book and especially liked the strategy segments and the prisoner's dilema.

1-0 out of 5 stars overview only
It seems like a glorified table of contents. It tries to cover too much and absolutely no detailed in-depth explanations, and absolutely no rigorouse mathematical explinations. It's good only as an table of contents with some details. If you are interested in a specific topic, you are better off finding information on the web or go elsewhere. The cases are fun to read, and provide some insight into the real life problems.Recommend it for night time leisure reading, but not for seriouse students who wants to learn a solid fundation to the subject. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars If You Ever Find Yourself In the Line of Fire...
In the Line of Fire focuses on the process and dynamics of answering questions in front of important audiences. It provides excellent mechanics to prepare for formal Q&A sessions as well as ad hoc situations. The book is rich in anecdotes - although it may go a bit too far analyzing U.S. Presidential election debates over the past 30 years.
5-0 out of 5 stars In the line offire
As and educator and someone who deals with the public at Board of Education meetings, PTA/PTSO meetings, and in other similar formats, a book that describes a process for effective communication is valuable. This book helps the reader to answer difficult questions and communicate effectively. The book should be required reading foradministrators as answering a question effectively is important for success.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple communication techniques expertly explained in an entertaining package
This book describes a few simple techniques for dealing with difficult questions from the audience after a formal business presentation, or from journalists after a press conference. In particular, the author explains how to control the interaction with the questioners, formulate answers that are less likely be perceived by the audience as contentious or evasive, and how to forcefully get one's message across as part of the answer.
