4-0 out of 5 stars This Book is Alright
Being an avid reader of Event Planning literature, I must say that this book is alright.

5-0 out of 5 stars Packed with Knowledge!
Details, details, details. That's really what successful event planning is all about, and that's the key to this very successful event-planning manual. Author Judy Allen notes, lists, copes with and gives an example of virtually every detail in planning anything from a sedate corporate event in a major city to a huge celebration on a remote island. She provides examples galore plus tips, questions and answers, sample cost sheets and schedules. How much floor space does a person need to be comfortable in a tent? Answer: 20 square feet. How many bathrooms should be available for a party? Answer: One per 75 guests. And don't forget to ask about the stemware, adequate parking and even the photographer's back-up camera battery. This author seems to have thought every contingency, as the book's ambitious title promises. Her one glaring omission is that she does not include the party planner's fee - our guess is that she'd be worth it. We highly recommend this well-organized, very practical book to all event planners. Don't send out press releases for your party without consulting Judy Allen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wow, what a book!
While I have read other Ken Blanchard books, this one truly got my attention and was wonderful. As a student collegiate athelte myself, Blanchard and Bowle's book was easy reading and very easy for me to connect with based on my own experiences. The book allows one to follow a main character that starts off by being fired from his job, then gets involved coaching a young hockey team and calls on a coach he remembers from his school days to assist and turn the team around. With the assistance of this "coach" the main character begins to understand what it takes to make a successful team. He realizes the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and building team pride. This is a book that you can't put down, it can be read quickly and easily and I do feel everyone would be able to associate with parts of the book.Blanchard and Bowles do a great job at using the hockey team to teach the readers about team building yet simultaneously showing how these same principles can be applied to a work site. One is taken through the steps of team building and given examples time and time again on how these steps can be applied. There are very interesting twist throughout the book that keeps one's attention.I recommend this book to everyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Team work - A neccessity in any workplace
Team Work - Everyone knows the importance but yet more often than not, our own individuality gets in the way. How much more can be achieved if everyone behaves for the collective good of the group rather than for himself?
1-0 out of 5 stars For the simple minded only - and not in a good way
This book is a utopian, unrealistic, poorly thought-out, infantile piece of trash. It's an insult to the intelligence of any adult who reads it. Written at a third grade level with 16-point type, this book's contents would be better suited to a coloring book. The philosophy it presents a real no-brainer, and if you need to read this to learn these principles, you have bigger problems to worry about. The "story" is just that, a "story" - there isn't an ounce of truth or realism to it, so just file this book under "office fairy tales". Believe it or not, I'm not a pessimist, I love books, and I'm totally into "self/professional improvement" topics. But do not waste your time or money on this silly book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Readible, entertaining, key skills for the new economy
Tim Sanders does a great job of compiling some tremendous insights for us from his personal experiences (music, religion, and business) and from those of others he has either read or met personally. The fact that he cites 32 other books supports his premise about building one's core knowledge from the knowledge of others. I found those citations additive in spotlighting some additional reading that I need to add to my list. 3-0 out of 5 stars Unique personal model ownable only by the author
It looks like all our friend does is rehash knowledge of others, repackages it smartly. I found little to no true empowering thoughts. His model only suits him or those that want to enter the speaker circuit. Try implementing it in the REAL world in your work - you'll lose your shirt faster than you can blink.

3-0 out of 5 stars Love Is the Killer App

2-0 out of 5 stars Not written with Emotional Intelligence
The author of this book was obviously not applying "emotional intelligence" principles when writing this book. The points were all there and really proved why emtional intelligence is important, but it was just not done in a good manner.I do not typically shy away from long books, but this one was impossible. It was assigned to me and about 30 other people in my organization (we were to discuss and present ideas found inside the book), and can I tell you that no one finished it because of repetitious and dreadful writing?Just know that to be successful, you HAVE to exhibit emotional intelligence and be a intuitive, kind and generally good person to work with. If you don't believe me, save yourself the time/energy and buy the Cliffs notes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tool of Necessity
A must read for trainers, trainees and people managers. Goleman's work provides a benchmark for training and development professionals. For everyone it provides a template for increasing one's self-awareness and operational effectiveness within for profit, non-profit and familyenvironments. Nothing fancy, just a plain old common sense appproach backed by documented research and experiences. As a mentor to a significant number of students and professionals, I have recommended this text without hesitation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotional + interpersonal skills = Success!
This book simply showed that success is not just dependent on cognitive abilitites but more importantly on emotional competence.

This is a great book to have lying around. It is very useful in writing great reviews of others and for using to write appraisals about yourself. This is money well spent and will be a book that will last years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful Reference for Frequent Reviewers
My boss bought this for me as a gag gift when I was dragging behind in submitting my own performance review. While an amuisng gift for that situation, I think the book is a great reference for anyone who has to write reviews frequently. 5-0 out of 5 stars Paradigm-Shifter
Every once in a while a book is published that shifts paradigms and instigates a pervasive buzz around the workplace. As a consultant, I know which books these are because they are on the shelf of every client I visit. I predict this book on trust will become a paradigm shifter. Covey makes the issue of trust a hard science that impacts everything, including the bottom-line. And the book is fun to read....lots of stories, business examples, personal stories, and statistics. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Inside Story of Successful Companies
"Stories play a major therapeutic role in life. As earthly sojourners in the 21st century we experience the outer world in society, organizations and communities as paradoxical, rapidly changing, and becoming more globally inter-dependent. This out world many times is at variance with our own inner world. And this is the therapeutic power of storytelling." ~David Dunning, Corporate Leadership Psychologist

Eveyn Clark has written a wonderful book about corporate storytelling and in the process has told us a wonderful story. She has gathered us around in a corporate, global campfire circle and inspired, entertained, and taught us the value of storytelling. She gives us role models to follow and insights to understand why this is so important in today's business world. She gives guidance as to how to implement storytelling into our own corporate lives. A very important book in this digital world we live in.

"I believe this work is a `must read and understand' for all senior executives. Quite simply, most CEOs tell the world their most important assets are their people.Yet, what they most often discuss are their financials and their markets. This book is a wonderful review of companies relating to their employees through storytelling and becoming more successful as a result."

5-0 out of 5 stars Do You Dread Looking Things Up?
The Elements of Style makes grammatical research so easy, you'll want to look up things you'd always wondered about but thought would take too much time. Recently someone asked me about the use of the serial comma, and, as it was about text we were going to put on the dust jacket of a book, it was sufficiently important to look up. It turned out to be the second item in the Table of Contents. First you get the general rule, in this case "In a series of three or more terms with a single conjunction, use a comma after each term except the last." The example given is "gold, silver, or copper." The sole exception is a series of names in a business: "Brown, Shipley and Co." There! With thirty seconds effort, the issue was adjudicated. I can't recommend it highly enough. Thank God for the Fourth Edition. My Third Edition is dog-eared with use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Important Reading
This little book is important reading for any one who has or is desiring to write. One of the best things that I could say about the book is that it is full of examples that are juxtaposed. Every element is clearly defined in such a way that any one can easily see the difference between the examples given. This book is a "how to" book for proper use of english in written form. It seemingly covers everything you could imagine from the use of commas and omiting needless words to expressing yourself clearly and not overwriting. The five chapters are: 1. Elementary Rules of Usage 2. Elementary Principles of Composition 3. A Few Matters of Form 4. Words and Expressions Commonly Misused 5. An Approach to Style.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Indispensable!

It provides a framework for using charts to your advantage- and not just within oral presentations. 3-0 out of 5 stars Decent, but rather uneven coverage for an intro text.
One benefit of this book is that it contains articles, commentary, and discussion questions all in one text.It also covers a wide variety of issues, which is good since business ethics is a vast subject. On the negative side, I don't think the organization of the sections is the most effective way to approach the topic. The sections are organized based on a 1991 survey of CEOs in which the participants ranked their most important types of ethical dilemmas. As a result, there isn't the logical flow or progression of ideas from chapter to chapter that one might expect from a philosophy book. Unfortunately, the pragmatic interests of CEOs are not the same as the educational needs of students who are new to business ethics. There is also no discussion of ethical theories and no direct interaction between the articles. On the whole, this book may be beneficial if used in conjunction with a survey of ethical theories and ethical decision-making, but taken by itself it makes for a rather uneven introduction to business ethics. ... For novices to org. culture, this book takes you on a thorough journey into the corners of what constitutes an organization's culture. My favorite take-away is that Schein made an abstract concept much more concrete. He creates a nice framework to view org. culture, gives examples continuously and provides many nuggets of knowledge.Plenty of useful references are given as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Showing Our True Colors
Mary Miscisin's book was outstanding! It was a fun and easy read, yet full of informative and interesting ideas about people and how and why they act the way they do.Having been an educator for many years, this is THE book I could have used long ago to better interact with my students and their parents. The book's content makes easy what Myers-Briggs tries to do.I would recommend it to anyone who has a desire to deal more effectively with children or adults.

5-0 out of 5 stars Color Me Satisfied
Easy to read, full of wisdom.I never could figure out how to use Myers-Briggs.I can use this everyday with everyone I meet.Useful for all ages, both sexes.Entertaining presentation helps emphasize a language of Colors that is non-threatening, non-emotional, and constructively wonderful

5-0 out of 5 stars Life-long Learning!
As an educator with 30 years experience in the classroom and in coaching, I wish I could have read Mary Miscisin's book 30 years ago!I would have been a much better teacher and coach because I would have had a much better understanding of my students and athletes and how to more effectively communicate with them based on their colors.I couldn't put the book down because I kept meeting past students as well as people I know now represented in Miscisin's creative and stimulating examples."Showing Our True Colors" was so challenging and packed with information, yet so simple to understand and implement.Every parent, teacher, and coach ought to read the book.It is a must for couples and anyone who wants to communicate more effectively.Where was this book when I needed it?Oh, yeah, I still do need it today. Thanks Mary! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Mastermind "Bible"
Bill and Joe have done a wonderful job in this book of explaining what a mastermind is and the many types of masterminds that exist or that you can start to help you "Grow Rich". They cover everything from the history of masterminding, you will be surprised to read how far back it goes and how to start your own mastermind. Some of the key points I loved about the book were how to deal with the dynamics of the different personalities that may exist in a group and how to satisfy their needs. I am looking forward to meeting Joe and Bill and their mastermind group in the near future by qualifying for the promotion they had recently.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for remote sales professionals (among others)
As someone who has been home officed for more than 10 years now, I really appreciated this book. Most of us who have worked in corporate America have participated in mastermind groups (of varying value) internal to our companies - yes, I'm referring to staff meetings, weekly tags, etc.We tend to complain about having to attend these meetings (especially if they are not well run), but then once we are home-officed, we often miss the camaraderie.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Only Networking Book You'll Need
We've all heard that Networking is a vital activity of any entrepreneur, but do we believe it? And if we believe it, how do we go about networking? Dig Your Well Before You're Thirsty by Harvey Mackay will tell you just how - and why you do it in case you still haven't figured why. The inside cover reads, "The Only Networking Book You'll Ever Need." Never was a truer statement ever written.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks Harvey
Thanks Harvey for the motivation on why to maintain a better network then I am doing now. I liked hearing your stories and reasons for networking. I got a lot out of this book, even though it was mostly a book on why to network, not how to network.
4-0 out of 5 stars A book with an invaluable message ... Network!!!
First of all let me start with the title ... very interesting title and probably apt title too for what the book is all about i.e. Social Networking. Network of Friends(your Well) is something that you need to dig(make Friends) way before you will ever need them(You're Thirsty).
