Handy, not new.
As a trainer, speaker and coach on the topic of building your business by referral, I have read and own most books written on the topics of networking, virtual networking, working a room, and connecting so of course I had to have this one!
Book Builds Budding Banter (or the right way of networking)
I never considered myself a sales person. Yes, I've heard all the talk that we do sell ourselves every day from what we do on the job to meeting people to the offering of Girl Scout cookies every year at the office. But I never really imagined my being able to just go up to folks and getting to know them first.

As in all of Gitomer's books, they're simple but not simple minded.It is simply about understanding, cultivating and appreciating a connection.Be genuine, and don't short change those who you immediately don't see can "do something" for you. Creating relationships instead of schmoozing
I found this book quite inspirational. Although I love spending time with people talking and getting to know them better, I've always been leery of the concept of "networking." It brings to mind a picture of an insincere jerk working the room, brown-nosing the people who can help him get ahead and ignoring everyone else.
Great Book. Great Ideas.
Keith Ferrazzi obviously understands the importance of career karma. He practices what he preaches and provides countless examples of ways to be an effective networker, build your personal brand, and expand your success. This book helps destroy many networking myths and teaches us that the one important rule in networking is to 'give' to the members of your network. Keith has built his own personal brand on his unique and innate relationship-building skills and he shares with us so many different ways to network, that every reader will be able to find the ones that are authentic for them.

A must read for anyone!
Crucial Confrontations is written very well, is interesting and is applicational for every aspect of life.The book was so helpful, after reading it in one weekend, I bought 8 more copies to give to my executive team members. Well done and thanks for the years of research that went into the book.I use the communication techniques outlined on a regular basis and they really, REALLY work.

Sounds great, but implementation?
The ideas presented in this book seem to be excellent ways to have critical oonversations, but I found two things lacking.First, reading about conversations and making them happen are two different things.Although it's no fault of the book, I think it will be difficult to put these easily into play without practice.

For making managers remember what really matters
This book is full of information of things that current managers have forgotten. Every new project is wanted done with less money, less time and with higher quality than old projects, putting a lot of pressure to the project team. Managers do things that they believe is good for the project but actually damages the project (and the company) at long term. I have seen many co-workers leave my company for issues like the ones described in this book. Managers and company owners: Please read it!!!

REALLY Lame
It is not worth the paper it is printed on... even at the Amazon price.
Read this if you write!
For anyone who writes in a business environment-which is probably most people reading this-The Business Style Handbook is an extremely useful reference. I especially appreciated the introductory material, which provides the basis for great marketing copy for those of us who write and edit for a living. And it's a great relief to have a handy reference for handling all those marketing-speak and tech-speak neologisms and inconsistencies.
How the Business Style Handbook Helped Me
I'm glad I had a copy of The Business Style Handbook when a big argument erupted in my department. One group said you have to write "an NYSE stock" while another said you have to write "a NSYE stock." I took out a copy of The Business Style Handbook (which my wife gave me for Christmas to help me improve my e-mail) to settle the dispute. Outstanding
I very much wanted to get into this little known science of NLP, brainchild of Richard Bandler and John Grinder, for some time. After careful examination of similar books I chose this one after reading some of the page excerpts.

Very confused, unnecessarily complicated, and above all - dull.
If you're made to buy this book you have every right to hate the professor that makes you do so. This book is a punishment! Not only is it very expensive, but it also offers information that it is not relevant to the real world at all.
horrible service
i never even got this book because apparently its not a book yet amazons web site said it was. it took me 4 phone calls with 4 different customer service reps for some one to figure that out. all they gave me for the inconvenance was a 15 dollar amazon gift card which i tryed to use and doesn't work. i still don't have the book i needed and it is 4 weeks into the semester. i have baought other things from amazon and gotten them but this expeirance makes me never want to use amazon again. i would like to give you a review of the actual book but i never recieved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extraordinarily boring and difficult to read
This is required text for a graduate course I am taking, and I want to pull my hair out while being forced to read it. The political correctness in this book is overdone. One serious problem I had with this textbook was the way in which it seemed to start off on page 100 instead of page 1, because there is no introduction to Organizational Behavior. I don't know what to make of chapter 1...an HR manager's guide to political correctness on the job? The need to promote for diversity rather than for work performance? That is certainly what I got out of it. (Down with all white male CEOs!). It certainly doesn't introduce the diligent student to this subject. Sentences are long, drawn out, wordy. Concept paragraphs take a long time to come to the point.I find myself daydreaming by the time I've read half a page and have to start over, and part of this problem is that every page includes at least one sidebar. On page 40 of this text, the author talks about Feng Shui and it's three C's of design: clean, clear, and comfort, followed by this question: "What about the chi in your work and personal spaces--are you taking best advantage of "good" chi?" I do not recommend this book either for personal growth or for use as a textbook. ... Read more

Excellent book
This is a short and concise book . I used it in one of my graduate courses, and found it very helpful.

Essential Reading
I used a previous edition of Ms. Munter's book as a text in a graduate course in management communications. The latest edition adds some new subjects and is still one of the best books on the subject. If you could only have one book on this subject this would be a good choice. Even though this book covers a broad base of communication skills (strategy, written, verbal and non-verbal, typography, graphical and prepresentation skills), each subject is covered in considerable depth. This book should be on the office shelf of every manager who needs to communicate effectively.

Silos Politics & Turf Wars
This book was well-written and lays out the problem very clearly. For those interested in finding a solution to the age-old problem of conflicts of interest caused by function-based departments, you may want to check out a book called "Pyramids are Tombs" that details how to design a professional service company to eliminate conflicts of interest and align people towards a common cause.

Huge disappointment and overly simplistic
I was really looking forward to this book as a fan of some of his earlier books, especially five dysfunctions of a team, which is one of the most elegant frameworks i've seen on team dynamics.

I am not sure why the author thought he had something to offer on this subject.There was no original thought or useful lessons on the topic that was promised by the title.I read this book because it was the subject of an on-line book club for public health leaders but will be much more discriminating in the future regarding the purchase of books that are recommended by this group. ... A handbook for world changers
No matter how you identify yourself in the human ecosystem -- worker bee, sheriff, manager, capitalist, entrepreneur, politician, healer, parent, activist or consultant -- this book is going to turn on lights in your brain. It's that multi-layered. It's also that packed with the kind of simply brilliant insights that are totally familiar, and you wonder why you didn't remember that you knew that.
The Starfish and the Spider ... Yes!
I have a childhood memory of building a go-cart. Every kid in the neighborhood was involved. Who was in charge? Whoever had the right answer in the moment of the next right thing to do. Hands, hearts, minds worked together, one idea building on another. It was an emergent experience in every sense of the word. The go-cart was more beautiful and functional than any one of us could have built alone.

Very Helpful in Understanding Globalization
Most discussion of globalization consists of uninformed opinion that is not worth listening to or reading.Not so with "Making Globalization Work" - the author is a Nobel prize-winner in economics and has worked at the IMF and the White House.He provides an excellent summary of the current problems with globalization, and a number of suggestions for improvement.

Good OB text.
I Used this book for the Organizational Theory and Behavior class at Columbia Southern University. Easy to read through, and more valuable information in this book than in my last 6 management texts put together. I haven't read any other OB texts though, so I don't know how this one compares with others.

Overall great book covering all the concepts.....
This book is a very easy read.Used it for a CTUonline.edu master's class on organizational behavior.I think almost all organizational behavior-related books cover mostly the same topics.I mean you either know your people or you don't.It's applied psychology.What made this book somewhat unique is that it often cited real life case studies of companies.It also offered various arguments and counterarguments of the different topics that the book covered, such as "does flextime lead to increased productivity?" and "can you teach leadership?"

Good content, but unprofessional publishing
I can disagree about the ease of understanding and the knowledge of Stephen Robbins, but Prentice Hall, the publisher of this book, has blown it. This book is filled with typos and misspellings.

Much of it you already know but sometimes you need some reminding. This book is easy to read, to the point and not inflated with boring repetition like others of it's kind.

Only Decent, Entire Information contained in last 3 Pages!
I was very excited from the creative title, but was overall disappointed with the end result. His advice is valid, but it is stretched out very thin in order to get enough pages for a book. In general he says write your goals down, start immediately, and to do the most important task first. I doubt his readers in particular really need to pay $14 to be reminded of this. Either way, if you want the advice he condenses it to a list of all 21 steps in the last 3 pages! ... Read more

A particularly easy, menorable read -- I still refer to it in my engineering discussions in the business place.A must read whose applicability goes beyond manufacturing engineering.

Still effective after all these years.
Even though the first edition of this book was 1984, the message is still applicable.The Goal of the business is to make money, and Goldratt tells us how in a very entertaining read.Subsequent books by several authors still mimic his theme of continual process improvement through the reduction of bottlenecks which uncovers still more areas for improvement.This is one book I always buy for new managers when they start their corporate journey.I bought this one for a new CEO friend of mine.He thought it was great! ... Professional Coaching
Our company recently hosted a presentation from David Peterson, one of the authors of Leader as Coach.His audience was a small group of HR managers and Training consultants.He provided us with a no nonsense, credible approach to coaching managers and leaders.The title of his presentation was quite true to that title, providing us with a clear vision of the state of the art and insights into the state of the practice. This book has been my guide for my active research project.
This book has been both inspirational and motivational for me.I love the quotes and have used them when sending memos to people involved in my Masters active research project. The few colorful pictures are beautifuland representative of reaching high for the stars. The texture of the paperused is similar to a magazine's. I almost felt I was reading one, whichfelt more like leisure reading. The book is short, easy to read, and to thepoint. I've taken much of the advise while I've engaged as a leader in myproject.I've made efforts to become a better listener, give positivefeedback, inspire people to take risks, and built a bond of trust. Mind-Expanding
This is one of the best -- and scariest -- business books I've ever read. Christensen clearly illustrates why many of the 'tried and true' formulas really don't work. His research is compelling and is presented clearly enough for non-technical readers. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

Counterintuitive, well-supported, and powerful
This text excels on several levels:It is very readable, and tells a story which is understandable and compelling even at a cursory pace.For the motivated reader, digging deeper, especially spending time on the introduction and each chapter's endnotes, there is a huge amount of data and insight into that data that is well-structured for assimilation.Finally, the theories presented, once understood, become both a lens for interpreting past and current market dynamics, and set the stage for deployable actions in a number of industries.
