5-0 out of 5 stars The Power Of Nice:How To Conquer The Business World With Kindness
This is a wise and meaningful book. It's full of examples where niceness makes an active difference in high pressure business envoronments. There's alot to be learned from it and, nicely, they've made it fun to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book , short and sweet
I received this book as part of a [...]. It took me about an hour and a half to read the whole book. It is a great book, very simply and succintly written. The ideas presented are some that we were always taught in school but probably failed to follow somewhere along the way. It teaches us to be good to others , even if they are our enemies, because what goes around , comes around. If you do good to others , it will come back to you. The nice cubes are especially helpful. I have noticed that I do make a conscious effort on my part every day to be good to others at work and at home even if I dont have to. It makes my day go better :)
5-0 out of 5 stars Good book, Poor cover
Stuck in LA . Flight delayed,Desperate for a short but useful book. The last book I wouldnormally pick is one with a smiley face. Glad I did. The book's Big Idea: we are all connected and when we do one nice thing it spreads and rebounds---in often very unexpected ways---to our benefit. Useful examples on howhelping supposed enemies is often good business; insightful ideas on treating today's adversaries like tomorrow's allies; unconvential tactics on moving your frames from "no" to "yes".By the time the flight was ready to board, the book read through---a lot wiser. What they say about books and their covers, so true. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Find out what type of person you are when confronted with change.
This book can identify to all categories of people and how they react to change.I think at some point I have played all roles when someone has moved my cheese.I think I should read this book on an annual basis to remind myself of which mouse I would like to be.

3-0 out of 5 stars Confrontational, enlightening but too simple
This book uses two mice and two little people who look like mice to make a serious point. How do you respond to change? In Who Moved My Cheese?, we see those who immediately seek a new viable option, those who move forward only when a situation is life threatening, and those who refuse to budge.Isn't this what we see in everyday life?My biggest concern about this book is that the question provided to deal with the fear that stops us from moving forward is "What would I do if I wasn't afraid?" This is an example of repressive coping, and does not deal with the reason for the fear, and does not resolve the fear.To learn how to best deal with troublesome feelings that stop us from making the most of our lives,I recommend Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self.I recommend each of these books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good slap in the face!
This book is an excellent quick read for everyone. The analogies utilized remind people how to properly, and improperly deal with change and are superb.

3-0 out of 5 stars Handy, not new.
As a trainer, speaker and coach on the topic of building your business by referral, I have read and own most books written on the topics of networking, virtual networking, working a room, and connecting so of course I had to have this one!
5-0 out of 5 stars Book Builds Budding Banter (or the right way of networking)
I never considered myself a sales person. Yes, I've heard all the talk that we do sell ourselves every day from what we do on the job to meeting people to the offering of Girl Scout cookies every year at the office. But I never really imagined my being able to just go up to folks and getting to know them first.
5-0 out of 5 stars Right On!
As in all of Gitomer's books, they're simple but not simple minded. It is simply about understanding, cultivating and appreciating a connection.Be genuine, and don't short change those who you immediately don't see can "do something" for you. Give first and give again.Love his insights on nonprofits and trade orgs-- he shows where most fail, they join and wait for the networking to begin. You must participate, and I'm a big believer in participation should be at the board level. From years of various board positions, that is where the movers and shakers are. You'll appreciate his great personal life examples. You'll understand what it means to "walk your talk".This is one of the best books on networking.I'm buying several copies for clients and friends. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful method to direct thinking patterns
All of Dr. de Bono's book are full of tips that make you think about thinking, some go into deep technicalities while other repeat variations-on-a-theme. This book is one of the best I've read on a coherent method to adopt as a group and to even impose on others so as to to have every thought and emotion in its proper and valid compartment.
4-0 out of 5 stars De Bono will make you THINK
Every so often you read a book that is so obvious that you are amazed you did not see it before. For me, this is such a book. Yes, I could argue about the slow nature of the book, about the style or choice of phrase. However, the very simple idea (singular) at the core hit me like a billiard ball between the eyes at three paces.
4-0 out of 5 stars Powerful tool - simply explained
Dr. de Bono's method is a simple and powerful one - by concentrating all thinking in one direction and making sure all competing views get attention, a very strong output can be achieved in the minimum timespan. I would recommend it to any team going through a problem solving exercise. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Life is to live...
I think deep thinking people tend to be unhappy because they're not living life. They're idealizing and rationalizing life. Some of the concepts here may be good, but reading this book will leave you feeling empty, even if you agree. It's better to spend the time living your life than reading these kinds of deep books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Give this book as a present for anyone you care about
The more you read this book and go deeper into the principles of Covey the more you discover yourself and others. For many people reading Covey's book or listening to him speak literally changes their lives. This is a powerful and effective recipe for success indeed and highly recommended for people in training.
5-0 out of 5 stars All Time Classic
This book is an exceptionally well thought, intellectual work. I admire Mr. Covey for his in-depth analysis of human relationships and the new concepts he introduced like emotional bank account, paradigm shift, and writing a family mission statement. I truly believe that it is extremely important for everyone to read this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Attitude does make the difference
This book was very informative and easy to read.John Maxwell wrote in a language that is very to easy to understand and kept it very interesting and to the point.I recommend this book to everyone that would like to succeed in their personal and professional life.

4-0 out of 5 stars makes you and breaks you
there is not need to get a rocket science degree to understand the magic of your attitude, keeps it high under all the circumstances no matter what and build necessary skills for the development of your own career, attitude alone cannot help you to reach the top step of a ladder but it would be plus if you have it with other skills, skills are important to take you the place you are dream about. It is a good book if you can pick up one or two good things out of it and implement them in your life, you will see the big difference between the Difference Maker and the Difference Taker. The rest is history.

4-0 out of 5 stars Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude

1-0 out of 5 stars I'd rather be nice.
I would much rather be considered nice and earn my way through this world the way I am.Being myself in the business arena has worked well for me thus far, and I don't care if the trend is to deviate from feminity.I think we should respect everyone, and not propegate the evolution of a sexless society. All in all, I would much rather be a nice person and have people like me than be a b%tch with a nice office.People remember you by how you made them feel, not by how much money or power you had.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ever wonder how you appear to others?
This book was amazing! It really made me see how I appeared to others. Some thing that I have been doing that I thought helped me has most likely been why I haven't been more successful. What an eye opener!

5-0 out of 5 stars Power-packed toilet reading
QBQ is a quick read but is loaded with powerful thoughts to challenge you to grow in your work, home and social life.Essentially QBQ is about personal accountability. The author, John Miller, has built an entire personal development system around the idea that we should focus on what we can do to improve performance at work or relationships with our kids, not on what others should be doing to improve or accomplish any given objective. The concept is incredibly simple and is presented that way in QBQ.Nevertheless, it is very foreign to many of us in post-modern America.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, practical - and deep. This is Miller's QBQ!
Each employee at our manufacturing consulting firm receives a copy of QBQ! to read.We have a short dialogue and its contents are referenced daily. Every time I listen to Miller's "book on tape" CD or re-read QBQ!, something new hits home.I have shared these books as gifts with employees and friends and with my family as well. From my wife to each of the four children ages 22 to 14. It makes a difference at all levels and now Flipping the Switch, Miller's new book, is also wonderful and being read by all!
5-0 out of 5 stars QBQ! works
I love this book and have read it many times.I keep it on my desk for reference and take it with me on my train commute every month or so to refresh my memory.I'm looking forward to having our managers and supervisors read it and see if it will impact them like it did me.I work in government and all our agencies throughout the State are in the process of a slow and painful transition through major change.Low morale, confusion, complaining, poor communication and fingerpointing run rampant. I know that QBQ! will help our office deal with the transition and our challenges in a more positive way. As author John Miller says, "It's all about personal accountability, it's as simple as that!" ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A toolkit for shifting your paradigm
This book is a great combination of theoritical thinking as well as practical business problems. It examines the discussion on paradigms - which the authors prefer to call 'mental models' and how they constrain your perception of reality. So far, so good. Then they start outlining a practical methodology for changing your mental model, which should enable you to 'think impossible thoughts' meaning in this context, thinking thoughts that were impossible in your previous paradigm.I like the depth of research behind the concept and the academic structure given to the book on a subject that has been much discussed, but manages to give it a new perspective and some practical tools to take away with you.
5-0 out of 5 stars The power of viewing and molding your reality...
It's often the case that our vision of reality is a product of our own mental biases. If you can change the way you look at something, the reality of it can undergo a dramatic shift. This whole subject is explored very well in the book The Power of Impossible Thinking: Transform the Business of Your Life and the Life of Your Business by Jerry Wind, Colin Crook, and Robert Gunther.Very powerful stuff...
5-0 out of 5 stars We Should Invest In Our Mind's R & D
"The Power of Impossible Thinking" is labelled as a "business book" and it's very hopeful for those in business, both big and small. But it has tremendous value to everyone, in every aspect of our lives. Our "mental models" determine where we'll go and what we'll do and accomplish, throughout our lives. And, our mental models can limit us in our lives as well. One of the focuses is on the thought process, as it should be.Our thought process is often what hinders us.This book reminded me many times of the perils of stagnation.Mental and attitudinal stagnation. This leads to the oft-times subtle downward spiral of complacency, and just plain getting too comfortable.

5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!
This great book should be on the desk of every stressed out business executive. It brilliantly describes what it takes to be in a peak state of mind when you need to be.There is no question that business people as wellas everyone should train their bodies to get their minds in top shape.Thisbook illustrates that with great information about diet, exercise, and properattitude.A wise investment.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lacking new Insight to an age-old problem
I waited in anticipation for this book to arrive. Much hype had been made about this new research and the 21 day plan.Business men and women stuggle to balance work and home-life, and the foundation of this book isright on. If we loose weight, drink more water and exercise we will havemore energy for both. The problem with this book is that it says verylittle more.I found myself brousing through the book looking for newideas to give me some boost. The book does have some excellent chapters onhow to deal with stress in the work place. In fact, this book is worthbuying just for these two chapters. However, for those of us who read selfhelp books on a daily basis, you might be looking for more.

5-0 out of 5 stars At the Top of Your Game
Finally - a book that delivers on its promise to help you get to the top of your game, to help you achieve maximal performance levels in life - and does so using a common sense approach that integrates experience, study andscience with focus and commitment. The key is training like an athletewhether its following an exercise or nutrition program or developing apositive attitude. What a refreshingly realistic concept in this "apill a day takes the fat away" world!Through Dr. Groppel'sconvincing clarity, it all makes perfect sense. And you don't have to bein the business arena to benefit from the principles of THE CORPORATEATHLETE.Maximizing performance can be a goal that crosses age, gender andoccupational or vocational boundaries. But what makes this book stand outfor me is Dr. Groppel's holistic approach - completing the palate offitness by incorporating the physical, mental and emotional with thespiritual. It takes courage to take spirituality out of its politicallycorrect closet and plop it onto the Board Room table, to make it a keycomponent of performance enhancement.Could it be that the growth ofcourage, confidence, conviction and character is a natural end product ofone's development into the ultimate corporate athlete? I am convinced, after reading the book, that this is the case. ... Read more

Many life coaches and business gurus use most of what Napoleon Hill learned over 50 years ago.Anthony Robbins has built most of his core philosophy on Mr. Hill's teachings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some Useful Information---Worth Reading!
Napoleon Hill devoted 20 years of his life to researching and writing this book. It's about how to "make money" but the ideas seem to me to pertain also to "how to feel successful" even if you don't make millions of dollars.Much of the book is "I already knew that" information. But, it never hurts to be reminded of things you may know but are not putting into practice. And, there are some other ideas that are quite "original" such as the chapter on "The Transmutation of Sexuality".I recommend this book highly.Email: Boland7214@aol.

4-0 out of 5 stars Readible, entertaining, key skills for the new economy
Tim Sanders does a great job of compiling some tremendous insights for us from his personal experiences (music, religion, and business) and from those of others he has either read or met personally. The fact that he cites 32 other books supports his premise about building one's core knowledge from the knowledge of others. I found those citations additive in spotlighting some additional reading that I need to add to my list. 3-0 out of 5 stars Unique personal model ownable only by the author
It looks like all our friend does is rehash knowledge of others, repackages it smartly. I found little to no true empowering thoughts. 2-0 out of 5 stars Not written with Emotional Intelligence
The author of this book was obviously not applying "emotional intelligence" principles when writing this book. The points were all there and really proved why emtional intelligence is important, but it was just not done in a good manner.I do not typically shy away from long books, but this one was impossible. It was assigned to me and about 30 other people in my organization (we were to discuss and present ideas found inside the book), and can I tell you that no one finished it because of repetitious and dreadful writing?Just know that to be successful, you HAVE to exhibit emotional intelligence and be a intuitive, kind and generally good person to work with. If you don't believe me, save yourself the time/energy and buy the Cliffs notes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tool of Necessity
A must read for trainers, trainees and people managers. Goleman's work provides a benchmark for training and development professionals. For everyone it provides a template for increasing one's self-awareness and operational effectiveness within for profit, non-profit and familyenvironments. Nothing fancy, just a plain old common sense appproach backed by documented research and experiences. As a mentor to a significant number of students and professionals, I have recommended this text without hesitation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotional + interpersonal skills = Success!
This book simply showed that success is not just dependent on cognitive abilitites but more importantly on emotional competence.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book I've read in years!
This is a fantastic book. It is as relevant in relationships at home as it is in the work place. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be trusted or who wants to find someone to trust.

5-0 out of 5 stars Paradigm-Shifter
Every once in a while a book is published that shifts paradigms and instigates a pervasive buzz around the workplace. As a consultant, I know which books these are because they are on the shelf of every client I visit. I predict this book on trust will become a paradigm shifter. Covey makes the issue of trust a hard science that impacts everything, including the bottom-line. And the book is fun to read....lots of stories, business examples, personal stories, and statistics. This is a five-star book that I highly recommend. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars An Average read
The Rules of Work provides regular advice to would be managers/bosses however in my opinion it is not a fundamental read. It's basically a "How to" book with simple ideas. The reader will find that most rules are quite obvious.

3-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile Words on the World of Work
If you are looking for some good insights and perspectives from an experienced business manager about how to use the unwritten and unspoken rules of your workplace to your advantage, then you should read this book.Templar's 100 rules cover the gamut from what to wear and how to act to get noticed, to developing a career game plan.If you have never worked in an office environment, this book will help prepare you for what you will likely experience. If you have spent any time in an office environment, you will find many familiar situations to which you can relate.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Mastermind "Bible"
Bill and Joe have done a wonderful job in this book of explaining what a mastermind is and the many types of masterminds that exist or that you can start to help you "Grow Rich". They cover everything from the history of masterminding, you will be surprised to read how far back it goes and how to start your own mastermind. Some of the key points I loved about the book were how to deal with the dynamics of the different personalities that may exist in a group and how to satisfy their needs. I am looking forward to meeting Joe and Bill and their mastermind group in the near future by qualifying for the promotion they had recently.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for remote sales professionals (among others)
As someone who has been home officed for more than 10 years now, I really appreciated this book. Most of us who have worked in corporate America have participated in mastermind groups (of varying value) internal to our companies - yes, I'm referring to staff meetings, weekly tags, etc.We tend to complain about having to attend these meetings (especially if they are not well run), but then once we are home-officed, we often miss the camaraderie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Maxwell rephrases the rules for treating people right
Author John C. Maxwell follows his solid 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork with this book, which provides 25 essential "principles" for fostering interpersonal relationships. Maxwell uses poems, quotations and stories about such varied individuals as Benjamin Franklin, Martin Luther King Jr., Dale Carnegie, Barbara Walters, Pete Rose and Billy Martin to enliven his short chapters about the small, important steps that build better relationships. Unfortunately, the book seems slightly forced, stretching its theme to cover overlapping and somewhat arbitrary principles. Still, its broadly based, motivational stories make it spiritually uplifting. While this entry is not as compelling as Maxwell's work on leadership, we believe it will be very useful to those who want to build stronger friendships and aren't sure how to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Behavior-Changing Read
This is a thought-provoking read.I must admit I had some difficulty accepting that the problem is my fault--:)--but after I got over that hump, I was wide open to receive the teachings in this book.Very practical yet eye opening--you will learn some things about yourself, and you will grow and be better for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable book that can applied to any aspectof life!
