5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Marketing and Management Guide for the SOHO Owner
Barbara has really outdone herself again in part 2 of her Homemade Money book series, Bringing in the Bucks. In this follow-up to her Starting Smart! book, Barbara has provided an encyclopedic A-Z "crash course" in home business management that's an incredible resource all by itself, and has devoted the rest of the book to the number one problem with which my clients struggle--marketing their businesses.Barbara literally takes you by the hand and walks you down the marketing path, from helping you devise your marketing strategy to providing insight on how to play the publicity game to giving you ideas on inexpensive marketing techniques.Once you've gotten through these stages, there's a whole chapter devoted to doing business online.I would be hard-pressed to find a more comprehensive resource to help my clients manage and market their businesses.

First of all, if the negative reviewers were such experts in the field, they probably wouldn't be looking for opportunities, so they wouldn't really need this book! I love it when I hear reviewers call something "dated" or "for beginners"...Well if they don't deserve a big pat on the back. 5-0 out of 5 stars I Have a Home Computer Business
As one who makes his living at home using a computer I feel very qualified to make some comments about this book.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not current, although helpful
This is another of Paul and Sarah Edwards'home business books, originally published in 1997. Much of the information here is similar to the computer-related material in their "The Best Home Businesses" book. Unlike the other book, this one has an Index.

5-0 out of 5 stars An American Hero
This is a book about a woman who made a difference. It is also the story of a woman's triumph over Victorian ideas about a woman's place and over personal uncrtainties. Jane Addams became a leading humanitarian and spokesperson for women but she also led struggles which enhanced the notion of democracy in this country and the world. Ms. Addams did not see democracy as neoconservatives seeit today. She was not a fighter for capitalism or Republican values but rather for participation and inclusion. She was also a crusader for world peace.

5-0 out of 5 stars A bumpy ride
If God doesn't exist, one doesn't lose much by belief in God; however, if God does exist and one doesn't believe, the cost can be dramatic. Therefore, one should believe in God, for the odds are then in one's favour. This is sometimes called Pascal's Wager, after the dissident Catholic physicist, mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal. It has been argued that Pascal introduced game theory in order to help prove God's existence, or at least justify a belief in this. This is but one story highlighted in the history of the rocky relationship between science and religion from the late Middle Ages to the beginning of the last century.

I quite like this book and find it very interesting.I am always looking for opportunities and the author has done a good job at keeping my interest
3-0 out of 5 stars Dated
I liked this book 3 years ago but now I find that it is pretty outdated.Check websites and blogs for more up to date information.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful information, but dated.
This is a 1999 edition of a similar book published by the authors in 1994. It is a good basic overview of the scope of possible home businesses that have proven successful for people in the past. It is not an encyclopedia of all possible ways to earn money from home, but rather focuses on what the Edwards' have determined to be the top 100 possibilities.

If You are Laid Off or Redundant you need ideas to Make Money. First negotiate the best package or payoff from work.Second, how to make money from home for your future. This book does not go into a lot of details on how to start a business, probably the most likely options if you are laid off over 40.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Poor History of the Labor Movement
While the book reveals Jacobs knowledge of organized crime, the book does not provide evidence of the real struggles of workers who had benefited through their self-activity.This one sided book shows how the mob infiltrates unions but does not provide significant evidence of worker resistance to criminal activity in unions. The book is therefore more about organized crime and union raccateers rather than organized crime and union organizations. Why are unions singled out as the font of criminal action when so many other organizations are susceptible to mob influence? It is patently false to argue that union members are not interested in the affairs of unions. This argument is the equivalent of saying tht workers don't like unions, when they in fact are the primary forces in forming them.True, some union leaders are corrupt, but today we are finding a resurgence of rank-and-file local leaders who are not corrupt.Though Jacobs contends he is not anti-union, his book is certainly anti-worker.The book provides no adequate prescription for resolving the problem that he sees so endemic to unions. The book suffers from inadequate knowledge of the trajectory of labor history in the U.S. and an obsession with organized crime. Moreover, we cannot equate unions writ large with the broader labor movement that includes organized and unorganized workers.

5-0 out of 5 stars An inside look at who has talken the American worker hostage.
Jacobs' research has been diligent as evidenced by this inspired, spell binding, page turner. He takes the reader inside the American workers' unions and shows how the workers have been taken hostage by the mob. This is a MUST read for anyone who cares about the American worker!

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing piece of work
Like the cliff notes to racketeering, this book submerses the reader in the core aspects of organized crime, how if has afflicated the United States and the history of labor and government's moves to resist it. A truly splendid piece of work by the Warren E Berger professor. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Clueless in the Capitol
For those fascinated by the political process, Labored Relations may become the top comedy pick of the year.Prof. Gould, a fine labor law professor who has dedicated his life to showing unions, companies and workers what he believes to be a better way, consistently rejected the sincere attempts by all those around him who tried to show him a better way to move past the traps that bedevil anyone who decides to play Washington's political game. The book begins with a musing by Professor Gould as to why, as Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board, he was being taken to task yet again by both liberals and conservatives during one of his many troubled appropriations hearings on Capitol Hill. But after 475 pages of labored musings, the reader will be even more amused to discover that the professor never does figure out the proper role of a member of the NLRB in our society. At one point he even asks himself what he likes least about being a professor and an NLRB member.Grading papers and dealing with his fellow NLRB members, he writes. Both tasks require a willingness to genuinely consider a point of view other than one's own, something the professor seldom does in his labored days in Washington. If you are interested in obtaining a political appointment in the next administration and want advice on how to make nearly every mistake possible during your tenure (including meticulously documenting your foibles in a memoir), be sure to buy this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars mr. smith goes to washington
it seems to me that chairman Gould didn't get as much adulation and power as he thought he deserved. Perhaps the reason that he didn't get along with anyone, including his democratic friends in congress, the white house and the Board itself, says more about his style than theirs. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars a non-book
As the reviewer from mexico notes, most of the chapters of this book are reprints of previously published articles. This make the presentation disappointingly repetitive.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK but still not practical enough
The author makes a great contribution creating the awareness that KM is much more that IT, and that it is about creating new knowledge and organizational learning. Although the idea is not new, he presents it through an interesting framework called the Knowledge Life Cycle. Thats great.5-0 out of 5 stars The "next generation" of Knowledge Management is here!
In this wonderful little book, Mark McElroy begins to do for Knowledge Management what Peter Senge did for Organizational Learning:He connects deep theory with cogent practice, bringing the entire discipline to a new level. The book is a carefully designed compendium of Mark's leading-edge thinking over the past several years. In it he lays out the foundations for the next generation - "demand-side" - Knowledge Management, which enhances individuals capacity to produce knowledge, rather than simply use what's already there. By integrating a unique approach to complexity science with insights from organizational learning, he develops a model of "sustainable innovation" which is based on a broader theoretical framework of Social Innovation Capital (SIC). His SIC framework generates a core insight - the Policy Synchronization Method - a theory-based yet practical method for creating the conditions that support innovation in the long term. His writing is as useful as his modeling, for he constantly grounds his thinking into concrete and highly applicable suggestions that can be utilized in a wide range of contexts.Near the end of the book he shows the economic returns on investment from his second-generation KM, and concludes with a "presentation" that can be used to help make the case for these ideas in formal and informal settings. As a professor of entrepreneurship and management at a business school, and a 20-year student of complexity science, I am a true fan of Mark McElroy, and I am excited by this book and the ones soon to follow. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Seminal Book on Blue Collar Work
This book forces you to look at things in a new light. When you hire someone to do some work around the house, cut your hair, or bring food to you in a restaurant; you really don't want someone that's too dumb. Otherwise you house, your hair, or your food isn't right. But we have been conditioned to think that these kinds of workers do not need any brainpower.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational feminine intuition and intellect
A great inner workbook to get the prosperity consciousness going. Very affirmative in tone and lots of anecdotes. A list of other resources is included to continue learning about blending soul with capitalism. Best to use the Suze Orman books in conjunction with one such as this. Franks offers the inner wealth techniques, Orman outlines actually action strategies to bring money and abundance into physical existence.

3-0 out of 5 stars There are better books on the market
Although I believe Lynne Franks has good insight for people who want to start their own business, I found it annoying the way that she would name drop and take credit for the success of others. If you are looking for an uplifting book that will help you take the next step toward running your own business, I would recommend, "Building a Business the Buddhist Way : A Practitioner's Guidebook" by Geri Larkin. This book provides the inspiration to take the next step and more practical advise on how to write a business plan and get started.
