5-0 out of 5 stars Best comprehensive personal finance book around
Everyone's Money Book is the most comprehensive, useful book on the market if you want to improve your personal finances. The book not only tells you how to invest, cut your taxes, get the best deal on insurance, etc, but gives specific resources like websites, associations, publications, government agencies that can help you put the advice into action. If you want even more detail on all these topics, check out Goodman's Everyone's Money Book Series by the same publisher on Credit, College, Retirement Planning, Financial Planning, Investing and Real Estate.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book For Everyone!
If you have this book on your shelf, you have no excuses. You may not read it cover to cover -- but any question you may have about managing your finances is answered somewhere in the 970 pages!Jordan gets you started and then provides you comprehensive bibliographies and webographies to explore your topic in depth.Every household needs an up-to-date reference guide and this is the best one out there right now.Unfortunately, it missed the latest changes to the tax code, but I'm sure the soon to be released Everyone's Money Book: Retirement Planning will catch them.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very clear account on personal finance management

4-0 out of 5 stars A tried-and-true money making compendium
If you liked Chicken Soup for the Soul, you'll love this book, and some of its tips may even help you make some extra money and maximize the money you have. It is an unusual collaboration between Mark Victor Hansen, Chicken Soup's co-author, and Robert G. Allen, author of several books on getting rich in real estate. The book is half novel (on the right-hand pages) and half collection of self-help and investing advice (on the left-hand pages). Both the motivational fiction and the guidance are clear, though often familiar and a bit simplistic. The self-help and money-making tips evolve from standard get-rich books, spiritual manuals, real estate investment guides, management literature and pop psychology, but they are well-compiled and linked with supportive commentary. The most compelling tips involve giving, not getting, which is a nice twist. The book has a little of everything, from poetry to great quotations, so it resembles a deluxe pizza with many scattered toppings more than a nourishing bowl of mom's chicken soup. We say dig in, if that's your dish.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
Their books seem to focus on making money in real estate. Why don't they come out and say so. How many people do you know that have boought a house with no moeny down? This book is not reality but it sure is making them rich.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
The way this book is written engages both sides of your brain, and the information included is inspirational, motivational and practical. Do yourself a favor and read it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Prepare For Your Elder Years, To Feel Secure.
This is an interactive how-to book fulled with relevant comic strips and cartoons -- a very graphic publication. In it, he promotes reverse psychology to get what you want; my sister mastered in this type of child rearing which I could never learn.
1-0 out of 5 stars complete waste of YOUR money
this book is contrarian to a fault.i think the author purposely incites controversy.the bottom line is this: every individual's financial circumstances vary and no one answer is correct for everybody.if you have student loans at 8% and a mortgage at 9%, it makes more sense obviously to pay down the higher debt, deductions be damned.many people make stupid mistakes such as making buying decisions based on tax deductionswithout thinking about the consequences to their budgets.they leave out property taxes, maintanence, etc. that adds up.for most people, paying down other debts first may make sense, but to keep your mortgage unpaid in the hopes of making double-digit returns in the market is foolish...it is much more complicated than that.there is your tax bracket, fees and expenses, time frame, investment risk, etc.such blanket statements are foolish for edelman to make.also, roth IRA's can make alot of sense to those people who qualify for them; his argument to not invest in it is weak at best and is based on loose assumptions.also, in many parts of the country, buying a starter home/townhome can make alot of sense.you can sell it for a decent profit in many cases, at least if you stay more than a couple of years.this beats renting anyday, and in his arguments he never addresses the real losses of renting, including the increase in the annual rent which in some markets can be exorbitant.anyway, read it and draw your own conclusions.there is never a substitute for common sense.

2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but self-promoting
As a young, beginning investor, I have been educating myself about investments, savings, etc. With that in mind, I have been avariciously reading almost all the investment books I can find.Edelman's book first brought to my mind a concern about index funds, because every other academic book I've read supports them.I think Edelman has an axe to grind, being an personal finance manager and simply put, to Edelman, Index funds are the anti-christ and must be eliminated. However, his logic does not make sense, nor do his facts and figures hold up.The index funds simply mirror the market, and this they have done very well.He neglects to go into their low fees, and also he does not address the issue of survivorship of mutual funds, that is, that the current data that is published includes only those funds that survive so they are naturally better.Poor funds are simply eliminated or absorbed into other funds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tools for Achieving Financial Freedom
Do you know how much money you will have once your retirement age comes around?Do you know how much your social security benefits will be per year?Do you have an IRA AND some kind of work-related account like a 401K?If yes, do you understand how your money is being invested? If you are married, are you taking an equal part in managing your household's finances? If you have kids but you were to die next week, would your kids be able to survive financially? Are you debt-free?Do you have money put away in case you were not able to work for five months?...If you answered, "No" to any of these questions, this is the book for you.It absolutely changed my life and I went from being $4,000 in debt to being debt-free and having $12,000 saved up for my retirement within 5 months of reading this book. Thanks to David Bach, I went from worrying about my financial future to feeling secure knowing that I will have more than enough to retire on.I just wish that I could have read this book sooner. It is a very fast and easy read that can give you the motivation and information on how to take the reins to your financial future and steer yourself toward a life of financial security-- where even someone like me who comes from a poor, debt-ridden family can create the first generation of wealth. This book is amazing; if you can't afford to buy it, check it out from the library, like I did.It is also a great book to give as a gift to young ladies, college students/graduates and anyone else for that matter.Check it out and you'll never regret that you did.

4-0 out of 5 stars Every woman should read it!
Actually, every person should read it. This book provides so much information about how to handle your finances. I just recently graduated college and am also newly engaged, so this book has definitely helped us to plan our lives. 5-0 out of 5 stars An easy-to-understand, well-written parental guide
Jayne Pearl's Kids And Money: Giving Them The Savvy To Succeed Financially is a thoughtful, easy-to-understand, well-written parental guide to a the sticky conundrum of teaching children from age 4 to 18 on how to be responsible with their money. Various money-related milestones, from allowances and first jobs to credit cards and college, are all carefully navigated with frank, friendly wisdom. Tougher issues such as shoplifting, gambling, and overspending are also discussed, with practical advice for the wide gamut of family money situations. In an increasingly modern society where a few clicks of the computer mouse can drain one's credit card account as fast as electrical information can travel, money savvy is more important than ever, making Kids And Money a "must" for any parent whose children aren't already majoring in finance.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read!
Jayne A. Pearl shows you how to give your children financial roots and wings. By roots, she means good financial information, values, and ethics. By wings, she means encouraging kids to be confident, independent financial managers. While Jayne Pearl's information is thorough, some of it is specific to U.S. taxation laws and economic structures, which makes the book less useful to an international audience. We... recommend this book to parents who are concerned about their children's financial well being, and to those who need a refresher on good spending habits.

5-0 out of 5 stars Money sense and family peace!

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprised me
I didn't know until this CD that I didn't think I deserved money. When Glenn talked about being comfortable with money and deserving it, I started getting anxious. This was a real surprise to me.He's really great at what he does.I highly recommend his CDs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective and relaxing way to overcome your abundance issues.
The multilayered therapeutic audible suggestions in Glenn's deep, resonating voice, the post hypnotic subliminal suggestions, and the perfectly timed music all provide a fast, effective means of relaxing you physically and mentally. This allows for the breaking up of any blocks you have centered around the issues of abundance, success, and wealth potential. I could feel an attitude shift and a psychological millstone removal after just one listen to both segments and these feelings only increase with each use. Highly recommended to anyone with similar issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD!
This is one of the best hypontherapy cds I have. The british voice is very relaxing and the music is beautiful. One side guides you through a tour of your dream car and dream home. There are affirmations that pan from one ear to another and slowly fade away. Both side one and two are 24 minutes long. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good for a brief overview, but I wouldn't call it a "Guide"
A book that calls itself a guide should be full of information that the reader can take and use on his/her own. This book has a good overview of finances, but it does a poor job of relating one branch of finance to another. There is no building of knowledge for the reader, so it is as if you are reading a different book on each page. For a book issued by the Wall Street Journal, I was rather disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Guide
Most of us have some gaps in our understanding of personal finances. This approachable guide lays it out briefly and understandably.Since my attention span is short for this topic, this is the kind of guide I needed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beginners Complete Book to Finance
This book is filled with illustrations and is great for beginners or for those who are more visual learners.I personally didn't find this book extremely helpful because I have a background in finance but the illustrations and information is helpful for tutoring and explaining some of the concepts. It is also a good review tool or handy reference guide when you have a quick question about finance matters. In addition the range of material covered is great. You won't find this much investment information in one place so concisely organized. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Reference for Regular Folks
I really appreciate the simple language and the Q&A (question and answer) format of this book. She covers credit, insurance, marraige/partnership, property, wills & trusts, etc.I can tell from the questions and her concise answers that she counsels real people - rich, poor and middle class. Some questions she answers are:
5-0 out of 5 stars use as reference book
There's a lot of practical advice in the book. Some of her recomendations may be controversial to some, but the main focus is to take control of your money and research what you invest in, how you borrow, what insurance to get, etc. This is advice to help us in our day to day decisions, not just try to become a millionaire in 30 days.It certainly made me think about sinking all my money into my home instead of having a diverse portfolio. It also gives a good background so you know what questions you should be asking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy-to-sort-through advice that everyone can use!

5-0 out of 5 stars For those wanting -and not having-financial freedom
Orman presents a holistic way of creating and managing wealth.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Practical, Sincere, and Readers-centric
I am so glad to come across with Suze's The Laws of Money. I wish Icould have read this book at least 15 to 20 years' ago. It is paradigm-shifting in a sense that it helps us to remove the myths and emotional blocks about money, and suggest us to pick up the positive money habits, such as being brutually honest about our financial situations; self-worth precedes net worth; people, money, things as personal priorities.
5-0 out of 5 stars This should be taught in school
Suze explains finances in an easy and enjoyable way.She gives vivid examples to help you remember the lessons she is teaching.Growing up, no one in my family talked about handling their finances because none of them understood the topic.I bought several additional copies of this book-on-CD to help my family become more educated about money and so they were not so dependent on others.I hope that this audio book will spark their interest and encourage them to pick up other books. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Could be 5 Stars, if you're a beginner
John would be proud to know that I picked up his audio book from the local library, costing me nothing.
2-0 out of 5 stars Only if you want to be a Miser
If you want to live like Eboneezer Scrooge, perhaps this is the book for you. However, the author promotes a very miserly approach to creating wealth. Sadly, by the time you have wealth, you'll be too obsessed with not spending 10 cents more for a bag of potato chips in the flavor you really want. The basic financial principles he is teaching are classic Dave Ramsey. While these are great tools to use, I'd recommend buying something by Ramsey or Orman as opposed to this book. Likewise, if you are serious about becoming wealthy, you NEED to read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki. It is a must!
4-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners and risk-averse investors - lacks insight into really BUILDING wealth through real estate
The reviewer Robert Cuenca is in fact completely ignorant. We've all been there - opening our mouths because we got excited after reading our first get out of debt book.So much to learn young padawon. There is such a thing as GOOD DEBT.It's what all savvy investors and biz folks use to grow wealth. My friends and I have made millions of dollars starting out small and buying and renting or buying and flipping real estate or doing our own business (taking on debt as leverage). If you don't understand ROI (return on investment)- that's net after ALL costs including rent and INTEREST that you are so scared of... then you are missing wealth building.

3-0 out of 5 stars Essays and reflections on the process of making money
I bought my copy in an used bookshop in Surfers Paradise, Australia.. decided to take back home because of the honest, down to earth advice that some pages exhibit.
3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre
I don't think I finished reading this book.It seemed like the same ol' same ol' chicken soup stuff.I found nothing new in the half of it that I read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Create abundance with this book!
Let's not kid ourselves: there are perhaps thousands of books dedicated to motivating people, getting them closer to success, and so on. I have read a dozen or so of those books, but this one clearly stands out in my mind.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rachel Capil
When I started at a new job this book was recommended to all new hires so I read it and I thought it was a great book.I really believe anyone that wants to learn more about investing and being finically knowledgeable should read it.I am not an expert by any means, but I thought it was well written and kept me interested in reading it every day.He has helpful suggestions to growing your financial future and that can never hurt anyone who is open to learning.

1-0 out of 5 stars BEWARE this "sage"
You've got to be kidding! Here's the author's main recommendation:Carry a large mortgage and instead of paying it off, invest money in the stock market because "you can easily make 10% returns a year."If that's true, why did so many people lose their life savings recently in stocks and mutual funds?Of course, this guy is a fund manager, which is why he is trying to convince people to invest.BEWARE this sly salesman!!!Edelman encourages people to invest the money they should be using to pay off the mortgage because "mortgage interest is tax-deductable." True, but that does not mean the IRS refunds ALL of your mortgage interest. It is still costing you money, so why gamble on stocks that might lose money when you know you can be paying off your house and having that security? If you are into the idea of "leveraging" then this book might be for you.But most "ordinary Americans" would be better served looking elsewhere. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I loved this book at first, but. . .
When I frst read this book several years ago, I loved it.However, I like to go over my library of personal finance books to get a little shot of encouragement when I need it or just for some info I might have forgotten. After going back to this book, I couldn't get through the silly story again. It just did not go down as well on the second helping. The story and the characters get old very fast.Skip this one and buy the automatic millionaire or the total money makeover instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good advice is buried in this 1950's Educational Film Strip
My dad gave me this book. I'm young (25) but not a novice when it comes to my finances. Some of the things discussed in here I'm already doing but some of it was new to me. If you can get through the annoying and downright stupid conversations (not one "joke" in here is even close to being funny) between the "barber" and his "pupils" you'll leave with some good information. The "story" is written in the fashion of a 1950's film strip on finance...I felt like it was almost talking down to me in some sections as if I wasn't intelligent enough to understand some of the concepts. Read this book, but also check out Suze Orman..especially if you're in your 20's. (and to the publisher: do you really want a review by Arthur Andersen on the back of the book?)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book...
The wealthy barber is a great little book. It explains investing to the layperson, without fancy language, or needlessly complex concepts. The Barber - told in an series of monthly haircuts to his customers - explains how one should undertake the path to financial freedom, regardless of what their income levels are. There is no real trick here, or advice on what to invest in, rather, just the founding principles one must undertake to learn before they start saving for their families future. For example, Roy, [the Barber] explains how important it is to start investing early, and how compound interest works. Also, how anyone can save a nice little nest egg by putting away just a few dollars off their weekly paycheck.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for Fundamental Investors
If you haven't read this book, I am recommending you to get it now. This is one of the three best investment books in my opinion (the other two are Ben Graham's "The Intelligent Ivestors", and Philip Fisher's "Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits").Out if these three, this one is my favorite.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book
Mr. Lynch points out the basic investing principles while recounting events that have helped shape his strategy. He presents the material in an approachable manner that gives a glimpse into the world of investing from his own personal perceptive. It is refreshing to see how he is susceptible to the same emotional highs and lows that the market throws at us all and to learn from his many years of experience.
4-0 out of 5 stars HARD COVER MICROBOOK
