Editorial Review

Personal-finance author and lecturer Robert Kiyosaki developed his unique economic perspective through exposure to a pair of disparate influences: his own highly educated but fiscally unstable father, and the multimillionaire eighth-grade dropout father of his closest friend. The lifelong monetary problems experienced by his "poor dad" (whose weekly paychecks, while respectable, were never quite sufficient to meet family needs) pounded home the counterpoint communicated by his "rich dad" (that "the poor and the middle class work for money," but "the rich have money work for them"). Taking that message to heart, Kiyosaki was able to retire at 47. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not much to learn
I found his advises similar with what I knew since my childhood (save money, invest to bring you more money, don't spend much, real estate is good, etc). It does not give tips on what "rich" people know (at least I suspect they would know more). Like how and where to get valuable information. How to buy stocks, what to look for, nothing of that. May be inspirational book for some, a poor kid who became rich... Tells 100 times the same things, annoying at some point.
2-0 out of 5 stars "Good" Salesman; QuestionableBook
RICH DAD, POOR DAD seems contradictory in more than one way:economically and philosophically.Probably, Kiyosaki's most inviting, yet deceptive, chapters is Eight, "Overcoming obstacles."Here, he is at his most fervent; one can feel he believes what he is writing is true. But it is not necessarily true about life itself.
5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!
This book is very motivational and understandable. It doesnt matter what your background is on investing, this book will help you learn and identify great investments! It reveals the way you think and how to develope the right way of thinking for Wealth!

Editorial Review

The rich are different from the rest of us, if for no other reason than U.S. tax and securities laws allow them to invest in ways that keep us from catching up to them. That's why 90 percent of all corporate shares of stock are owned by 10 percent of the people. Kiyosaki believes it's possible for anyone to move up into that 10 percent, but it takes a different view of investing than most people have: it takes a plan to be a successful investor. And a plan is more than simply buying and selling, or collecting "assets" that bring in no cash and are thus more akin to liabilities. The way most people invest, "they might as well be pushing a wheelbarrow in a circle," he writes. A plan is "mechanical, automatic, and boring," a formula for success that has worked historically for most of those who've used it. Kiyosaki's "rich dad" (actually, the father of his best friend) tells him the simplest analogy is the game Monopoly: buy four green houses, trade them for one red hotel, and repeat until you become rich.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Kiyosaki - Does it Again!
Kiyosaki's third book in his Rich Dad, Poor Dad series delivers again. This book is a logical progression of RDPD and CFQ building on his principals of building wealth for the first half of the book.Afterwards, Kiyosaki unveals what the reader has been waiting for . . . just how the rich invest. He disclaims the book plainly for the reader looking for the next hot stock tip or get rich quick scheme. The book delivers on it's title from a principal information standpoint, which should suit readers that realize that wealth is built up over time and based upon timeless principals and a strong foundation. The last two phases of the book are extremely well-written.Kiyosaki covers financial ratios, IPO offerings, taking companies public, and of course real estate principals. He presents his information to get you thinking not to give you answers for he knows the answers will come if the action is initiated.Another aspect of Kiyosaki that I particularly like is that he discusses his failures, which should let the masses know that riches are often found after many failures (more often it is the norm). So if you want easy answers - don't buy this book.If you want principals, ingredients for success in building wealth, and systematic structure on what you should be thinking in acquiring and KEEPING your wealth - this is your book!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my most picked up books!
I have read this book and keep this as a reference when referring to my questions on money and finance. This book is a definite read and its definitly the type of books that you read several times for reasons of referring back to the ideals of money. Another book I reccommend is THINK LIKE A BILLIONAIRE by Scot Anderson.

This is a unique book, though written to help become financially independent, the principles may be used to help achieve anything you may want to have in life or want to become.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good. But not the best of Napoleon Hill's CDs
This is a good CD. I own it and have listened to it a few times. Earl Nightingale gives a clear summary of Think and Grow Rich. To me, Napoleon Hill is the greatest success author/speaker ever and Think and Grow Rich is the single greatest book I have ever read. However, a part of this particular CD feels like an advertisement and could have been skipped. Also, the editorial reviews and the narrator of this CD talk about 13 principles. This could sometimes be the cause of confusion. Hill organized 13 Steps Toward Riches (in Think and Grow Rich) and 17 Principles of Personal Achievement (in his courses and lectures), also referred to as 17 Keys to Success. This CD talks about the 13 Steps in T&GR.

1-0 out of 5 stars Advice for the fearful!
This book was terrible, maybe the worst book I have read on investing. It was so basic I felt like I was in pre-school learning how to tie my shoes. It's a book for whimps who are full of fear and are too scared to do anything with their live's. There is even a section warning you not to use drugs. Come on.....Don't waste your money..........

2-0 out of 5 stars Time is money. Save both and pass on this one.Really!!
First let me say that I bought the audio tape and not the book. The tape is 3 hours in length so I assume it highlights the most important points of the book. (if there were any).5-0 out of 5 stars Run, don't walk, to buy this book
HI.. I would say most people should run, not walk, to buy this book. It doesn't matter where you are starting from, everyone can benefit from this stuff, and there are a variety of ways to compile wealth that the authors talk about. I found it to be very inspiring and well worth the money. I would recommend it to all my friends, especially those who are befuddled by the markets, because it has simple straightforward advice. good luck to all the savers and investors among us! for socially conscious people, they also tell how to help society (as well as get wealthy.) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I loved the book and enjoyed the CD
This is great book on investing and I highly recommend it.The CD is great to listen to in the car and gets all the points across.I suggest that you also get the book. It's way better than the Graham books - which are very dated - they give you the tools to buy stocks selling at below book value - not a lot of those around any more.Besides Buffett got over Graham years ago.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Complete Joke
This book tries to reverse-engineer Warren Buffett's investment strategy and does a horrible job of it. Like all of Mary Buffett's books, this is long on hype and short on credibility.Read more

Editorial Review

How can you join the ranks of America's wealthy (defined as people whose net worth is over one million dollars)? It's easy, say doctors Stanley and Danko, who have spent the last 20 years interviewing members of this elite club: you just have to follow seven simple rules. The first rule is, always live well below your means. The last rule is, choose your occupation wisely. You'll have to buy the book to find out the other five. It's only fair. The authors' conclusions are commonsensical. But, as they point out, their prescription often flies in the face of what we think wealthy people should do. There are no pop stars or athletes in this book, but plenty of wall-board manufacturers--particularly ones who take cheap, infrequent vacations! Stanley and Danko mercilessly show how wealth takes sacrifice, discipline, and hard work, qualities that are positively discouraged by our high-consumption society. "You aren't what you drive," admonish the authors. Somewhere, Benjamin Franklin is smiling. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Wow- I had no idea!
I guess that when you think of millionaires, you think of flashy people with nice cars and a lot of bling, but I had no Idea that there were so many BORING millionaires!I guess it's not really pboring to have over a million dollars, but I want to be able to enjoy my monye.THeat's the purpose of this book , though- to show that you have to be boring and then you can get to be a millionaire with all the money you didn't spend on fun stuff!I almost fell asleep a couple times reading this, but when I stayed awake it was really eye-opening.I won't scoff at those people who don't have "big hats" but have a lot of cattle anymore.

3-0 out of 5 stars Common Sense
Nothing really groundbreaking here.Mostly common sense. You can visit a few websites and virtually get the same info presented in this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unrealistic, repetitive, couldn't finish
This book was interesting at first. It shatters what most of us think the typical millionaire looks and acts like, but that only takes a chapter. After that, it just keeps repeating itself over and over."Who do you think bought the $1000 watch and who bought the lower priced watch?"Yeah, yeah, I get it; the millionaire has a lower priced watch than the overspending, no real wealth guy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Praise
It is a very good book , but it has too much praise about Warren Buffet too much introduction stuff and Warren Buffet's praises

3-0 out of 5 stars Agood basic introduction to Warren Buffett Investing
Buy this book if you are looking for a very basic book to start learning Warren Buffett's investing style. You will only get information on the companies he has purchased and their performance and a very basic explanation on why Mr. Buffett thought they were such great values when he bought them. There is no technical explanation here on how to figure book value or how to find your own value stocks. It reads like "The history of Warren Buffett" not "How to invest like Warren Buffett".
3-0 out of 5 stars Not much depth, but interesting for a casual reader
Unlike many reviewers of this book, I did not expect an in-depth analysis of Warren Buffett's investment methods when I read this work.In fact I approached it as casual reading-at the time I wasn't really interested in finance and was just reading it more for biographical reasons.I enjoyed the book because of that-I didn't really expect much and therefore wasn't let down. The book is fairly well written and goes into enough detail for the casual reader. There's enough information about Buffett's investment strategy to have a basic understanding of why he's so good at what he does, but not so much information that someone uninterested in finance would find it tedious.

5-0 out of 5 stars [billionaire] Oprah Winfrey's favorite money guru - 'nuff said!
i've given MANY of these away because...
3-0 out of 5 stars Advice is not revolutionary but good definitions
It turns out I had taken most of the steps Suze outlines in this book several years ago so I can't say I found out anything earth shaking.
3-0 out of 5 stars Overrated
Suze gives some good advice, especially to set up a will and revocable trust to help protect your family members, etc. But, it is a little too emotional and overdone."If you would just save that $2 a week you spend on whatever, you would have X amount of money on 20 years" over and over is a bit ridiculous.I really disagree with her dislike of professional money managers (I am not one) and the "follow your heart" approach. Most people who manage their own investments do not do as well as they would with a professional. In fact, many fail miserably. If you need medical advice, ask a doctor, if you need your kitchen redone, hire a contractor, and if you need advice on how to invest your money, given your situation and goals, ask a financial planner for help. Many people are in crummy dog stocks and worthless no-load mutual funds because they "followed their heart" and chased last years winners. Not a bad audio book, but my copy was really outdated (1997)--almost 10 years old.Buy something less emotional and more recent. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great book - plus a recommendation
This was a helpful book as I am striving to find a beneficial perspective on finances. It is motivating, filled with good advice, and helpful when you're looking for steps to take in your financial portfolio. I also found another book, more from a philosophical perspective, very enlightening as well - The Financial Pilgrimage, by Sean Mitchell. Together, both have given me just what I need to feel good about God, life, and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get it, know it, breathe it, believe it
I'm not a big fan of those self-help books that litter today's bookshelves, but I wanted to get something that would help us with our finances, preferably something that wouldn't put me to sleep. Mr. Ramsey will keep you awake, especially if you get this in the audio book format. The guy runs his own radio show so you know he'll keep it interesting. His smart, witty, and humorous tone makes for a great listen.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Book Worth Saving For
I first read this book in 1993. (I was out jogging one day and overheard two people discussing how it had changed their lives.I immediately bought it.) I especially like how it helps you to develop a healthy disregard for unsecured debt. Too often, we buy things on credit because we believe that we can't wait until we have the money. This book will help you to develop the proper mindset toward debt. With that essential foundation, you then address the problem of your specific debt. I especially appreciated his frequent reminder that you're not a bad person just because you owe money. I've recommended the book many times through the years.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Debt Bible!
I bought this book at least 10 years ago, when I was a single mom and deeply in debt. It completely changed the way I thought about debt and financial freedom. I titled it my Debt Bible because 10 years later, I still refer to it when I need a reminder or some inspiration. It's not about deprivation, it's about living a good life without having to go into debt. This book is awesome. I've recommended it to all my friends.

4-0 out of 5 stars The sequel to The millionaire next door
If you read and enjoyed the Millionaire next door this book is a great follow up for more of how the real millionaires think. I is basically the same and the before mentioned book however in this book the author makes a successful attempt to get inside a millionaires head by studying their behavior.
1-0 out of 5 stars I Couldn'tWake Up
Having read "The Millionaire Next Door," as well as most if not all of the classics in this category, I expected life-altering experiences with this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars HOW MILLIONAIRES GOT THAT WAY - PRACTICAL AND INSIGHTFUL INSIDER-INFO
Productivity...attack, working in conjunction with frugality...defense - many coaches and success writers tend to focus more on the former tactics than the latter. Interesting to learn that you may earn lots of money - millions even - and be "Income-affluent", but still not be a champion player, as Dr. Thomas Stanley sees it. The real goal, he says, is to be "Balance sheet-affluent". Welcome to the real meaning of millionaire.

5-0 out of 5 stars A latter day film noir protagonist on Wall Street
Reading this great book reminded me of the movie Night and the City. The central character Lou Pasciuto is very much in the mold of the famous noir protagonist in Night, "Harry Fabian." Always hustling, always scheming, but with a 21st century twist, and all true.

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodfellas meets Boiler Room
If you can imagine a book written that blended these two movies together, bada-bing, there's your book. There's your review.

5-0 out of 5 stars very disturbing
It nevers ceases to amaze me that people could be so gullible as to send a check for a large sum of money because some guy with a great line of BS says he can make you rich and he represents an official sounding brokerage house.Wow.

5-0 out of 5 stars The twenty one principles serve as a further extention of the seventeen success principles in Napoleon Hill's 'Law of Success'!
'Forbes has called John Templeton "one of the handful of true investment greats in a field of crowded mediocrity and bloated reputations."
5-0 out of 5 stars A Guidebook for Life
The Templeton Plan is a guidebook for living life. Templeton lays down 21 laws on how to be successful in your personal life and in your occupation. Interwoven with the Templeton Plan is an autobiographical story of how Templeton started from modest means growing up in Tennesse into a multi-billion dollar investor and money manager. It's an incredible and inpiring story. Not every day or in just any book can you get great, proven advice from a billionaire, but this text is a classic treatise on being successful from someone who not only knows as much about the subject as anyone but also has taken the time to formulate it into a teachable package. It is wisdom in the truest form. This book is cheap and more than worth every cent. It's also one that I will read again in the future which is the highest mark that I can give any book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text for career exploration class
I first read this book about 5 years ago, drawn to it because of the appreciation of the investment prowess of the Author.I have long been a shareholder of the Templeton Funds. When I agreed to teach a class of 8thgraders a "Career Exploration" class I knew this would be a 1stratetext.The class read the book over a period of weeks as we reviewedthe book each class period. Each of them was then required to write areview. Each student gleaned different messages from the book. All spokehighly of it.It is my belief that it will continue to speak to them asthey shape their careers and their lives. Personally, I can think of nobetter gift for a young adult, or for a foreward thinking adolescent, thanthis book ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Stay away from the abridged book on tape -- it's badly dated
The abridged book on tape version (ISBN 0-694-51801-8) mostly covers market conditions in the early 1970s. (It's apparently an abridgement done in 1986 of a book Graham wrote in the early 1970s before his death in 1976). Yes, there is some historic interest here, but not enough of Benjamin Graham's timeless advice on investing. I recommend finding another version of Graham's work, unless you're an economic historian researching the early 1970s.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on investing ever written
This is a must read for any person serious about investing (ie not gambling) in the stock market. The book is rather easy to read. Graham was an investor but also a teacher (at Columbia). He has a good balance between technical yet simple explanation. If you know absolutely nothing about the stock market and financials, you may still find it a bit obscure at time, but you should probably not invest directly anyway (at least not right away). For everyone else, read it.5-0 out of 5 stars Intelligent Investor
Intelligent Investor is the single greatest book ever written on investing.Look at Ben Graham's track record, all of several of his students (including Warren Buffett) have also built foutunes using his advice. ... Read more

Editorial Review

It's no secret that most mutual funds fail to beat the performance of the S&P 500. And if the pros can't beat the averages, it's not unreasonable to assume that most individual investors can't, either. Why? According to Robert Hagstrom, author of Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Read Buffett, don't waste time with Hagstrom
I bought it, by the title mentioning W.B.
1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time
Go right to the heart of the matter with Graham and Dodd's "Security Analysis" if you want to know how Buffett started.Hagstrom's book is a poorly executed fifth grader's book report on the primary investing philosophy of Buffett.Don't waste your money here. You'll regret it.This doesn't even scratch the surface of relevant information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Light, enjoyable and enlightening
This book presents Buffet's and Hagstrom's portfolio allocation methods.I say Hagstrom's because I think that much of Buffet's allocation methodology remains between Buffet's ears -- and not that of Hagstrom the author. Also, I believe Buffet is more opportunistic; he acts decisively when opportunities present themselves.
