1-0 out of 5 stars Look somewhere else... quickly!
If you're looking to part ways with your money and left with nothing but a hole in your pocket, then Marshall Sylver is the man for you. This is the same person who has been sued multiple times and even indicted for fraud by the state of Nevada. Buy the book or tapes if you wish, but avoid his seminars and other 'products' like the plague. You can get the same elsewhere from a reputable professional at a fraction of the price, and you won't be defraudedby Sylver, considered a con artist by more than a few people. He even got thrown off of David Letterman for his offensive conduct. Buyer Beware!

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning!Warning!Danger, Will Robinson!
I learned a lot from Marshall - mainly how to spot a VERY smooth con. There may be wisdom in crowds, but put a crowd of people who are looking for someone to tell them how to change their lives in a room with a con who's a hypnotist and you've got trouble, in or out of River City. He's good at working a room, I'll give him that, but there is no there there. What IS there is a bad toup and visible face-lift scars, if you get close enough to see them.Which I did.He took me for several thousand before I wised up - an expensive lesson, but one I've not forgotten in the years since.Save your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good material - the book is better though
I saw Marshall Silver at one of his magic shows in A.C, NJ many years ago and then caught his informercial. Ordinarily, I turn the channel on informercials, but since it was Marshall, I stayed tuned.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Taking Steps Toward High Achievement
Rick Pitino is a coaching legend in basketball. He led the University of Kentucky Wildcats to an NCAA championship in 1996 and he has the distinction of being the only coach in college history to take three different schools to the Final Four in playoff competition: Providence, Kentucky, and Louisville. He has also served as head coach of the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics in the NBA where he helped to rebuild the programs at these two professional basketball franchises.
5-0 out of 5 stars Find your own success, read this book by Rick Pitino
I think there is a tendancy these days to desire a "quick fix", a "magic potion", or even a "trick" that will allow us to take short cuts to obtain the results we desire.
5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book by an Outstanding Coach
I have owned this book since it came out in 1998. I just today pulled it off my bookshelf to read again. I have ready many, many self help and self improvement books over the years as I am a fan of the genre but this book by Coach Pitino is a very good choice. If you could only have one self help, motivational book, other than the Bible of course, this would be it.

5-0 out of 5 stars contentment is the key
Dave is preaching some good lessons about life in this book.Values, vision, intensity, patience, wisdomonics (his word).... but the key to me is contentment.Learn to be happy that you are loved by God, and stop looking at spending money on stuff to make you happy.See yourself as a participant in God's world doing His will, and stop focusing on yourself.I know this is easier said than done, and especially if you have a family to support (you always want to give them the best stuff). This isn't your typical financial planning book, or even your typical how to get out of debt book, but it is filled with good thoughts about life in general, and if you live them, Dave promises other problems (e.g., money) will fade away, or at least get under control.I give this a big thumbs up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read if you don't have MORE THAN ENOUGH
Dave's teaching is practical and common sense. If you follow his plan you will have peace and prosparity. His simple teaching may be scoffed at because it seems common sense, however most people don't follow this and they suffer.I hope you'll read it for your benefit. If you want to have more than enough in your financies and in your life, then read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-read for anyone, great perspective on money and more
In this book Dave really drives it home - it's all about values, integrity, honesty and money is just an indicator of those. It taught me a lot on how it really works and it does, you can have more than enough! Goget it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone could use an "atta boy"
This was the third Blanchard book that I have read and so far it is my favorite. The fact that I was staying in Orlando right next to Sea World when I started reading it was a total coincidence, but it made some of the elements of the story really come alive for me. The ideas expressed here can apply to anyone or everyone, not just a manager of some business firm.Although, I have to admit that like many of Blanchard's books it was a little predictable and felt a little pollyannaish.

4-0 out of 5 stars Maximizing You're Group's Potential
When searching online for a book on leadership, this book's title,"Getting It Done. How to Lead When You're Not in Charge", immediately grabbed my attention. It seemed perfect for what I needed a little help on. I am sure I am not alone. Everyone at one point in their life is forced into a group situation, whether it is in school, work or everyday life, where they are assigned a problem in which the group needs to accomplish together. However, before a group can solve the problem assigned, it needs to conquer the problems within the group. One of the problems that I have found to exist within every group I have been in is how to reach solutions and successfully work with others when no one knows exactly who is in charge. Everyone needs to individually take on responsibility and contribute, but it works best when you know exactly what you should focus on and the right questions to ask your group members to obtain the best results. This book does an excellent job in first of all, mapping out the problems that groups face and then going into detail by explaining the route group members should take to maximize success. Fisher and Sharp have five basic elements that groups can follow to get things done. By following these five easy steps it will give you a clear focus of how to put it all together and create a successful way to complete the tasks assigned within your group. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a little extra help to maximize their group's potential. It is very easy to read and the information and suggestions that the authors provide will be remembered and used every time I am placed in a group situation again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why do people not listen to good ideas?
Somebody told me once: "Never talk about a problem without giving a solution". After reading this book, I think it should be: "without inviting others to improve a solution you have drafted".Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Rubbish for sadsack yuppies.
I came to this book with an open mind, wanting to find these other reviewers were wrong about it. No such luck.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disingenuous title. Should be called "Cute Little Stories of How Some Rich Overachievers Followed Their Dreams"
I listened to this book on tape during a long car trip. Instead of offering real vocational advice, as the title seemed to promise, all it presented was a series of biographical sketches and interviews with high-powered people who changed careers. That's inspirational as far as that goes, but it doesn't really provide any useful information that the individual reader could apply to his own life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Unusual but worthwhile
This book is categorized under self-help/careers, but I thought it had little to do with either, and was more of a psychological probing, a study of what's important, a cross-section of people who (mostly) are past concerning themselves with how to feed their stomach and are instead focused on trying to feed their souls.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Listen To This While Driving
Have common sense? If so, no need to buy this waste of money and time. I borrowed these tapes from a friend and listened to them while driving (nearly put me to sleep). While Van Fleet's suggestions are often valid, they are not particularly inspirational. For instance, the first tape boiled down to "be nice to people" and you will be able to "control them." The examples he used were also very poor. If I used any of his suggestions, I think that people would find me to be extremely superficial (or worse). One of the most amusing suggestions was to tell a waitress that her perfume "makes me feel like a little boy again." Can you say, "Check please?"If you want to have conversation power as Van Fleet suggests, just consult your common sense and the golden rule. Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself. And save your money by not buying this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Never say "Hello"?
There was a time in the 80s-early-90s when the market didn't seem to get enough from the self-help wave. So hungry was it that some publishers would release anything without care for quality of content. Look no further, these tapes are a shameless plagiarizing of Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People, at times verbatim! Only more manipulative, if you can imagine such a thing.
2-0 out of 5 stars Want to Sound Cliched?Buy this Book
I just don't know about this book.I admire the fact that it offers specific things to say when encountered with situations, but at the same time, that's its Achilles' heel. For example, people who constantly ask me what I do make me feel important, but at the same time can get on my nerves. That is the thrust of the book: learn as much as you can about the person with whom you are talking. The problem is I just don't feel the suggestions for making first-time conversation will impress anyone. And telling someone to never, ever say "hello" when answering the phone?Maybe it's me, but folks who answer the phone "Top of the mornin'" sound really silly if they are not a close friend. And then you laugh.Imagine it coming from a stranger? You would think he is off his rocker. In my opinion, this subject matter is better covered in a workshop so that one can see the effectiveness. It's a case of "works for some but not for others."The author appears to have hastily thrown something together as if the publisher said, "Write us something...or else!"I'll take the "or else." ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not a lot of NLP material.
I thought this book would have more information on how to use NLP for enhancing leadership qualities. Most of what I found was just practical tips on what makes a leader and different leadership styles.2-0 out of 5 stars Not really NLP
I bought the cassette version of this book and found it very light in NLP content - almost none at all.I did not get a lot out of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Growing into a leader
The author applies his lucid thinking and writing, evident in his popular Introducing NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), to leadership in this book.He considers leadership as a journey and I like his analogy of a flock of birds. There is no one leader issuing orders all the time.Yet there is a larger intelligence that keeps the group together in very fluid formation."The more the individuals use their own intelligence to the full for themselves, the smarter the group becomes." p.xi.O'Connor uses not only NLP, but also systems and complexity thinking in a very integrated way without technical jargons. You are invited to join this journey of growth as a leader.Start with reflections on your own goals and vision. The questions and exercises, "thought experiments"... throughout the book are excellent maps for readers to explore their own mind and values.Basic distinctions between leadership and authority, managing and leading, Roman law and common law, leaders or winners and losers' mentality, the use of values in contrast to extrinsic rewards in motivation... are illuminating. We are also helped to have a good understanding of trust and values, beliefs and assumptions. The extention of NLP's perceptual positions of self, other and objective view into a fourth perspective of context of a wider system and a fifth perspective of change through time shows the richness of systems thinking.Overall, this is an execllent guide for those willing to embark on this transforming journey and work through the exercises in acquiring both understanding and skills as a leader. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
Follow the finely crafted journey of the politician, turned CEO, turned politician. Learn how the no-nonsense Secretary of Defense applied his standards of excellence to the floundering G.D. Searle Corporation and turned it into a stockholders dream. And you'll be able to recognize how Rummy is applying those same principles as he works as the CEO to the war on terror.
1-0 out of 5 stars You gotta be kidding me
Leadership lessons of Donald "Rummy" Rumsfeld? The man who doesn't let little things like world events, force capability, or the experience level of his senior commanders get in the way of his version of reality? Ok, I decided to keep an open mind. After all, as a military officer, he is my in my chain of command. But after reading this, I have to agree with the reviewer from the UK - rubbish. The only lessons you will learn here are those that show you what not to do. Rumsfeld has single handedly alienated most of the senior officer corps, not to mention most of the military too. The anger within the military towards Rumsfeld is growing. I wouldn't be surprised if, push come to shove, at some point the military refuses to do this man's bidding. If it keeps up much longer, a coup seems certain. This book, if followed, will lead to the same situation in your company - divisiveness, anger, and ultimately implosion. Don't waste your money on this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and clean biography
You don't have to be a great admirer of Rumsfeld to appreciate this book. Its written in a neutral way. Along with the positives the negatives are also stated. Although I must say that sometimes the negatives have been written in a twisted way.

Editorial Review

No single person has influenced the course of business in the 20th century as much as Peter Drucker. He practically invented management as a discipline in the 1950s, elevating it from an ignored, even despised, profession into a necessary institution that "reflects the basic spirit of the modern age." Now, in
