This is probably the best and the most complete of the 3 books written by Geoffrey A. Moore. It is also one of the best business books that I have read in the past 5 years (I read a lot) . This is one of the few books that clearly states how that strategies that companies follow while crossing the Chasm differ from those while they are in the tornado or a mass adoption. It takes an indepth look at the general principles that an entrepreneurial venture should focus at during the inception stage including strategies for product design and deciding which verticals to target. It also describes how start up companies made their first sale and how they moved on from one vertical to another. And then how the very same companies adopted their products when the tornado arrived. In essence, it tells why and how companies like Oracle and Lotus could hold their ground and live under the radar in the presence of bigger rivals and how they outdid them.

Thankfully, this is NOT littered with platitudes and meaningless anaologies, the hallmarks of 99% of the latest-and-greatest business books. Especially since it was written in 1999, Moore's is an incredibly insightful and prophetic book on strategy for the high-tech industry. He was predicting cutting edge changes then that are coming into reality today in 2005. The book is much more descriptive than prescriptive though, and is best used as a tool to instigate discussions about corporate strategy, rather than as a checklist for strategic implementation.

I can't tell you how many times I have read this book and though it is ten years old, the insights still ring true and offer insights into how the technology markets continue to evolve.

This material is very valuable for someone who is just learning about how to network-- especially for young adults, new college graduates, etc.We use this material as a standard part of a curriculum on networking we do for college women.It's true that we don't use or recommend his exact tools but a large part of learning about how to network is adopting the mentality of recognizing the opportunities, and of recognizing reciprocity.I think his material is inspiring and fun to listen to, and I highly recommend it for "beginners".His examples of networking success and networking blunders are eye opening.I like this material, and I recommend it!

I've been in Real Estate sales for just over a year. This is my first "sales" job so I was looking for something to help me with my closing skills. After reading the first 10 chapters of this book, I picked up several techniques and ideas from Tom's strategies that helped me. They helped me so much in fact, that I got two listings in one week! The commission on those two listings totaled $20,610! If I could recommend any sales book for a beginning sales person, or an experienced sales person that just needs some new ideas, this would be it!!!

I read in one of the Harvard Business Review Journal series how people learn best by reading or listening. Most are a combination of both but we all tend to one side or the other. If your a listener and your ready for a life change then you owe it to yourself to listen to these disks. They are mesmerizing and refreshing.So much of career books and tapes today are all about setting goals, listing accomplishments, competeing, negotiating, conquering.I think a reflection of our culture in America.The success oriented approach may get you a great paying job but will it make you happy?When I first started listening to Rick I tried to understand what his main point was.And this is what I came up with - success does not equal happiness.Not writing down goals, wandering, following a whim, getting lost in a project that has no apparent meaning or rational may be the beginning of something magnificent. That is not a quote just some added thoughts about the audio book.Thanks Rick.

Rick Jarow provides a much-needed alternative to the conventional "write a winning resume" and "knock 'em dead in your job interview" approach to finding a livelihood.Most career seekers are told to HUNT for a job -- i.e., use the hunter-gatherer model to find a position that just happens to be open at the specific time you are looking for a job.Once you've bagged yourself a job, then you are expected to mold yourself to fit the parameters your new employer wants you to fit into.Jarow advocates an more organic approach where finding a job is an outgrowth of creating a life that is right for you.As you associate with people/organizations whose values resonate with you, you will eventually connect with people who can steer you towards work that fits YOU.It is the difference between showing off a series of stuffed, mounted trophies on a wall as opposed to a lush, colorful garden you've cultivated yourself to represent your life's work.

I bought "Creating the Work You Love" about a year ago. It clicked with me. He's writing for people who come to life from a spiritual perspective, and have grown fairly skillful at that side of life, but are awkwardly deficient in the nitty gritty of reality. Jarow understands that the nitty gritty is also spiritual, and so he approaches the good old question of jobs and career from a wise and spiritual place, plucking examples inspirations from both Eastern and Western ancient traditions (although he organizes the process through the system of the chakras), but also from history and popular culture and his own life and counseling practice.Read more

I am ambivalent about this product. On one hand, what Brian Tracy is saying is some really powerful stuff and I believe all of it works, if only I had the tenacity to implement all that he's suggesting in my own life. But only 2 hours? I hope these CDs have a high replay value, or I'm going to be bitter about my "investment".

This is one of a series of books that covers highly successful, highly visible individuals and how they got that way. These books are targeted at school age teens to inspire them to follow their paths for success. The author seems to cover the life stories of Bill Gates and adds quotes where appropriate to boost the storyline. There are occasional segments on subjects related to Gates as shown in the Amazon's "Look in" review. It's an easy read with only 230 pages. If you read any of the other books such as "Gates" or "Hard Drive" you'll get the feeling of reading this book before. Since the work isn't original and seems to heavily reference other books I give it 3 stars. The only question I have is whether the author actual sat down with Bill Gates and talked to him or did she really just go to the library, the Internet, etc. to get info on the book. As a first book on Bill Gates life, it's still a good read for young adults looking to be inspired.

It's an easy to read story of Gates, but there's nothing new here.In fact, the whole book is made up of quotes from other books and articles.You can't really tell if they are taken out of context or not.There's just not much original stuff here.

I like to be told a story. Although the book starts with a good story on how Bill Gates got started, it quickly digresses. This book is an accumulation of facts and boring accounts about Bill Gates and Microsoft. It never gets into the meat of things. I would have liked to have read more about the litigations against Microsoft. Maybe some more about Nescape's lawsuit. It mentions very little about the Antitrust lawsuit that I was looking forward to learning about. Instead we get quotes from Bill Gates that do not enhance the book, but instead interrupt it. The author references websites about Microsoft's and the government's claims about the lawsuit. It's like the author got lazy. Don't waste your money on this book. A very big dissapointment! ... He's literally the World's Greatest Salesman, who has actually been in the field and achieved great accomplishments in sales himself, vs other gurus who simply do great at selling their books & audiobooks. He's the best, period, and he shares his knowledge with you in this book.

This book helped me understand other methods of closing sales. I was able to relate because I was in auto sales in the past. I think this book should be in every auto salesmans possession. Im no longer in auto sales but in takeaway sales. This book doesn't touch base on that type of sale. I still recommend to anyone in general sales.

Joe Girard has an impressive record as a salesman, a fact to which the reader is treated at regular and frequent intervals throughout the book.Self-aggrandizement notwithstanding, this book left me quite convinced that car salesmen have earned every bit of their sleazy reputations.

This is a powerful book about the principles and philosophy of success. This is very much applicable to all people from all walks of life worldwide. However, the authors were largely focusing on the black audience. I found the book to be well written, stimulating and uplifting. Numerous examples of successful black people are used to show what it takes to be successful. I could clearly see that my fate is in my hands. The "Acres of Diamonds" are all around me. It is only left to me to open my eyes and see them. For example, I had always wanted to write o book on African airlines but never got started on the project. However, after reading this inspiring book, I immediately embarked on my book writing project and I am now proud that thebook of my dreams on African airlines entitled "African Airlines in the Era of Liberalisation" is now complete and on the market.
