4-0 out of 5 stars This book doesn't try to tell l you what to do, but what had been done before
What does it take to be a successful business leader? This book, edited by Peter Krauss, is filled with classic writings by legendary business leaders. Also in this book, the reader will find, behind the inspirational phrases and classic pieces of advice, the stories and examples that will inspire, and turn advice into action. This book is not so much focused on telling one must be done, but focuses on showing what has and can be done.
5-0 out of 5 stars 51 Invaluable Perspectives
Peter Krass has edited the Wisdom Series series which includes this volume. Each anthologizes brief essays by different "icons of business." A brief bio of each author precedes her or his essay. In the Introduction, Krass asserts that "Among these various characters, in fact, the general consensus is that leaders are made, not born. The mythology of some mystical ability that surrounds these leaders is just that -- myth. As to the question: What makes a leader? The answer is here" in the 51 essays which he organizes within the following framework: 5-0 out of 5 stars An Indispensible Resource for the Perpetual Learner
This should be on every leader's or "wanna-be" leader's desk.Written by some of our past century's most effective leaders and edited to provide "side-bars" for the most important points in each oftheir articles, this book provides a much-needed tool.I have used it todraw on for speeches, research papers, and debate points.I first checkedit out from the library to see if the content was worth buying - and Iimmediately ordered it!This definitely provides food for thought andinspiration. It includes not only the actual articles written by theleaders, but also a one-page profile/background on each. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
A must have , great easy to listen beautifully narrated, excelent tips one of the best, perfect for every level, highly recomended. Defenitely worth every penny.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you are a pro, there is still some value, if you are new it is good stuff
I would not say The Art of Closing Sales has any ground breaking secrets that you cannot find in other sales books or courses. I will say the presentation style worked well for me. The information is not flying by to fast nor does it drag on and on. I would say for a professional seller who has been doing this for years will find a few points that maybe of value. Someone who is getting into selling should find this helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars An appetizer, but not the ful meal
This tape set by Brian Tracy is an abridged version of the program by the same name that Brian did for Nightingale-Conant and his fabulous seminar.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Equivalent Cheaper Deal
I bought this 9 CD set, which is great. I also purchased the one CD version of Napoleon Hill in his own voice [MP3 Audio] [Unabridged] [Audio CD]. This is the same, but in MP3 format, but for $10 less.

Editorial Review

The Western cultures esteem analytical skills measured by IQ tests: but there is clearly more to success and happiness, even in technological societies, than IQ alone. Goleman has written one of the best books on the nature and importance of other kinds of intelligence besides our perhaps overlybeloved IQ. Recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great personal and professional growth tool
As owner of a corporate training consultancy - PICKS Training & Consulting - and 20-year sales manager, I found 'EI' to be extremely beneficial to me in both my personal development and my profession. For anybody who is interested in better understanding their emotions and harnessing them for good instead of trauma, I encourage you to read this book and practice its principles.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking read
You know the feeling--your spouse says something that strikes you the wrong way, and involuntarily you tense up. You can almost feel your blood pressure rise. Without thinking, you respond emotionally, and soon what may have been intended as an innocuous comment has sparked a full-fledged marital battle that may leave as its aftermath lingering feelings of anger and resentment.
4-0 out of 5 stars The importance of emotions
Daniel Goleman has written an interesting book about the physiological and social consequences of emotions and our ability to control them.He makes a convincing case for emotional competence as perhaps a greater prerequisite for success than intellectual brilliance. Many of us can probably corroborate this for ourselves by recalling very intelligent people we have known who have a tendency to sabotage themselves through their inability to deal with other people appropriately.

4-0 out of 5 stars A woman's stance on Guys
A really honest book for a man to write and strikes a chord for every wife. From a female point of view it is good to know that men recognise their 'guy' habits. It is extremely funny and his observations are 'spot on'.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious to the point of pain

5-0 out of 5 stars A study of conflict
This book is great for anyone interested in personal development. It is a guide in focused self-discipline.It is also a guide to successful navigation of conflict.
5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT 17th CENTURAY SAMURAI SWORDSMAN'S ADVICE ON STRATEGY
Based on my readings, Musashi's motive in writing his Book of Five Rings had been to correct misrepresentations of his views on swordsmanship by his contemporaries. Having become a legend in his own time, Musashi's reputation was being exploited by ambitious rivals claiming to have adopted the master's martial techniques and philosophies. Thus Book of Five Rings was intended by its author to establish his point of view for correcting misconceptions.
4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent treatise on swordsmanship.....and life
Admittedly, I do not own this edition, but I bought it as a Christmas gift for a friend. This Musashi classic explains about the necessary fundamentals of samurai swordsmanship. While written centuries ago, the book also has strategic applications for handling life. This edition is good for simplicity and the lay reader. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Insightful!
Although James J. Mapes's self-help book is stronger than average and includes some colorful stories from the author's life, it offers essentially predictable advice. Mapes uses the physics metaphor of quantum mechanics creatively, to show how you can make major life improvements, freeing yourself from the fear and inertia that may have held you back in the past. An actor, clinical hypnotist and corporate speaker, Mapes also includes a valuable section on how to encourage better teamwork. The material on visualization is strong, and we recommend the volume to both self-help devotees and newcomers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on the subject and may.........
Tony Robbins and Zig Ziglar right behind. This book is intended to improve Your Self -Steem, -Knoledge and -Confidence to its very roots. As you realize that to be true, it will become mandatory as a reading.

1-0 out of 5 stars How Much of an Expert is he Really?
I bought this book and then did some background checking on the author. Seems Mapes's PhD is from a "diploma mill" - a phony and now defunct outfit that purported to be "San Moritz University," but is really just a printing shop. In fact, San Moritz is one of a group of unaccredited "universities," many of which were closed in an ongoing effort by the FTC. Since San Moritz claimed a UK address, it is not a recognised body as described by the UK Education Reform Act either. San Moritz was famous for giving out academic qualifications, transcripts and phoney reference letters to anyone, sight unseen, just for a few bucks. Do a Google search on San Moritz University, and you will see what I mean :-). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Personality Plus
I read this book quite a few years ago but I really enjoyed the updated version. She has so much wisdom about this topic.I teach school and I have my students take this test. It really helps me to understand them and plan accordingly. It has also helped me to understand my kids and husband.I highly recommend it to parents and educators. Very enlightening!

5-0 out of 5 stars Elementary foundation usually serves us best
Reviewer Pascal Schoneburg complains, "If you're totally new to personality theories and or psychology as a whole, this book may be for you - if you have aquired a knowledge foundation in psychology this book feels almost like an insult." Well, Pascal, I have a master's degree in clinical psychology and I find Littauer's simple, foundational explanations the easiest to explain, illustrate, and understand one's essential personality. Go ahead and work with other systems that give you a possible fit in 16 categories, or 9, or whatever--and see how easily you remember what you've been taught.
2-0 out of 5 stars Level 1Reading
I have used their personality test sheet which I really liked so I bought the book to deepen my understanding. This book speaks to the reader at an elementary level, like talking to a child. I found it a bit upsetting and discontinued the book after chapter 1. If you're totally new to personality theories and or psychology as a whole, this book may be for you - if you have aquired a knowledge foundation in psychology this book feels almost like an insult. It made me feel like the authors think that the readers are like little dumb children that need stupid 'real life' examples after every single point... This book should in fact be in the children section or maybe young adults. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Generally Good Information In A Dated Book
I have read several books on body language, and find this book in the middle of the pack. The general information in the book is good overall, though rarely surprising. Although body language probably does not change within a culture very rapidly, this book is very dated, and was, in fact, originally published in 1971. The book betrays its age by references to elaborate hair grooming and preening customs among hippies, and an extensive analysis of smoking behavior during business negotiations, which, while still a factor in some predominantly Asian countries, is now a nearly defunct custom in most of the west, certainly in corporate America. While people interested in the history of body language may find the accounts of pipe lighting and cigarette extinguishing practices interesting, it is largely a distraction. The illustrations also reveal the age of the book: they are all black and white pen and ink drawings, and while they are not terrible, there are much better illustrations available now.
3-0 out of 5 stars To old and outdated!
Actually this books was recommended by another Amazon reader. Has some good reviews but just didn't do it for me. Small book not enough information! I browsed right through it in no time. If I were you I would go with something with more pages and more info. This book did make me realize that I already new most of the body language signs. My mistake.....I recommend a book on face reading.
4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting book, a little lacking on content
"How to Read a Person Like a Book" is an interesting book about reading a person's body language in order to interpret what they are feeling. This concept is obviously interesting to all of us as beening able to determine when a person is communicating to you non-verbally has a lot of potential uses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Road map to Living
I have been presenting business & personal development workshops since 1987 focusing primarily on small business women and families. I only found Thomas Leonard because my girlfriend Nancy spoke so highly of him. Looked him up, purchased the book and realized I have used the many strategies he suggested for the workshops I conduct. I believe this book is the ONE that should be on every person list to purchase and apply. He offers step by step proven, simple practices to move your life forward and manage your living. This is the road map to peace, happiness, abundance and more!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thomas Leonard is not for everyone, but...
If you can get through the first chapter on "selfishness," this book really does have a lot to offer.Using charged words like "become incredibly selfish" and absolutes like "tolerate nothing" was an integral part of Leonard's in-your-face, we-don't-have-time-for-you-not-to-get-this style. So many of us in the professional coaching industry have been touched by Leonard. We owe him a big debt of gratitude for making the profession of "coaching" the big opportunity it is for us today. This book is a good legacy to the man, as well as to what he thought was important for us to understand in our lives and in the lives of our clients.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference Tool After First Read Through
I first bought this book three years ago at a Coaching Tour stop in Denver. The late Thomas Leonard signed my copy, making it a treasure in more ways than one.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Only Networking Book You'll Need
We've all heard that Networking is a vital activity of any entrepreneur, but do we believe it? And if we believe it, how do we go about networking? Dig Your Well Before You're Thirsty by Harvey Mackay will tell you just how - and why you do it in case you still haven't figured why. The inside cover reads, "The Only Networking Book You'll Ever Need." Never was a truer statement ever written.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks Harvey
Thanks Harvey for the motivation on why to maintain a better network then I am doing now. I liked hearing your stories and reasons for networking. I got a lot out of this book, even though it was mostly a book on why to network, not how to network.
4-0 out of 5 stars A book with an invaluable message ... Network!!!
First of all let me start with the title ... very interesting title and probably apt title too for what the book is all about i.e. Social Networking. Network of Friends(your Well) is something that you need to dig(make Friends) way before you will ever need them(You're Thirsty).

3-0 out of 5 stars Points Out Some Interesting Facts
The authors point out some intersting facts in the Bible. In answer to one of the rewiewers who gave this book a one for "abusing" Jesus' teachings, there is nothing in the Bible that says it is abusing anything to pull out truisms and helpisms from Scripture to help yourself in life for a purpose other than getting saved. And although the authors' focus may have only been to help a person becoming a good leader or better, regardless, their use of biblical principles still may encourage pagans (non-christians) to see that the Bible is not valueless or teaches only on certain subjects (salvation, sin, and hell, etc.) and that if it is valuable in that way, then it is not simply a book made my "drunks" or simpleminded persons whose only goal was getting money out of people.
5-0 out of 5 stars Leadership from the Greatest Leader Of All Time!
This book neatly identifies major themes in leadership theory and illustrates their being practiced and taught by Jesus. While it is somewhat thin, I consider this perhaps the single best leadership book ever written nevertheless. In 200 years this book will enjoy just as much applicability as it does today and it did 2000 years ago.Few other volumes can make such claims.Regardless of whether you are (or hope to be) a military, business, political, ministry, athletic or social leader, this is the first book to read.
3-0 out of 5 stars Disagree with Pr. Gary Nokleberg from Appleton, WI USA
I have not read the book, so please ignore my rating which I had to fill in because it's a compulsory field. I disagree with Pr. Gary Nokleberg's viewpoint. As a spiritual person, I believe God can meet us anywhere and everywhere (even in the boardroom). If CEOs and senior managers want Jesus to teach them something about leadership and management, I'm sure God is gracious and flexible enough to meet their needs even if these needs appear to be non-religious. Who can tell after having been inspired by Jesus' teachings, these people will not come to a fuller appreciation of Jesus in a later part of their life's journeys? ... Read more
