I believe that Chopra initially did not like the word success for this book because it often registers for people as more materialistic than he means. These CD's arrived yesterday and I eagerly listened to the first 2 of the 4 disks.The concepts on these disks are timeless, and especially valuable today when the overwhelming narcissism of our culture/media sends the wrong message to our young people on what it takes to get ahead. His talk about "the boomerang" of self absorption is especially apt, as is the discussion about enthusiasm and gratitude.

This is by far the worst business book I have read in recent years.It is hard to believe that Andy Grove actually thought that this material was worth putting into a book.As other reviews have said, this book at most should have been a short article in Business Week...but even then it would require some actual content to make it worth reading.The best part of the book is the quotes on the cover from Steve Jobs et al.It makes me wonder if they even read the book.

Maybe I haven't read enough "management" books (though I do have an MBA), but if this is considered "great" for this genre- WOW. This entire book could have been summed up in a couple pages without losing any major points, but I guess you can't have a bestseller that way! One reviewer said it was too technical. Are you living in a cave? I found it condescendingly written- absurdly simple and dumbed down. Granted, it's over a decade old, but I doubt everyone was really that much stupider ten years ago.

I am a first year basketball coach and found this book very inspirational.It makes me want to work even harder than I have and set higher standards for myself.Pat Riley is an excellent motivator and role model.I like any coach who is willing to write about his major losses in his career as well as greatest triumphs.A must read for any coach.However, he needs to write a sequel since he won his new title this summer.Go Heat!

Of the over fifty books on leadership/coaching that I've read, this is by far the least useful.There are anecdotes for basketball fans, but as far as useful ideas on success and leadership there are few.It is the most useless book I've read in the coaching/leadership field (even worse than Coach K's or Dean Smith's).

Few books stand up from the crowd when we talk about conflict and negotiation. This book does and it serves companies a great deal to make it a required reading for professionals. When I recommend this book to trainees in all my training seminars people think I am getting paidcommission from the publisher :) hmmmmmmay be I should. I bought this book hoping to learn a tried and true method to win arguments. I found what I was looking for and so much more! This book helped me become a better person because it showed me how to be a good person. The whole world tries to tell you that "good people finish last". Mr. Spence, as a splendid foot soldier, tells us that he has found a fulfilling life in doing the right thing, in the face of oposition and in the full confidence that he would succeed. This book was recommended to me because I was impressed with Ackoff's "The Art of Problem Solving."Enduring all 300 pages of this poorly written, repetitious work is proof that just because the subject matter is interesting, any given coverage of it will not necessarily be so.The book does have some merit and a few original ideas.That's part of the reason it has endured.The other reason is that the author, being so prolific, has kept himself current.Last but not least, the field of "creativity in thought" has so few good, logical authors with descriptive talent.

"Do not limit your mind, don't assume" could be a brief summary of the book. The author has made quite a good start, explanining how new ideas could be formed and how the best looking idea may not be the best to pick up. The book would be useful for people who have been in a stable environment, a place where improvements are seen as threats so you couldn't improve most of the things. The negative side was, that there were to many repeats of the same idea through out the chapter and the book. That was a bit boring. The "PO" word is a good idea, but doesn't need that much explanation. I would recommend it for starters in continuous improvement concept.

I have read several of Edward de Bono's books in recent years and I enjoy his theories. Which is why I recently dished out a lot of monet for the Why So Stupid book that is supposedly his magnum opus and is available only by direct mail. And after reading it, I will report that most of what is there for a very high price is also in this book and in de Bono's Thinking Course, which can be had for around 4% of that cost -- if that isn't worth a 5-star rating, what is?Read more

More "sound advice" from the autor of "Sever Habits of Highly Effective People". Quite a few (at least semi) practical advices in this book - building on the priveate and public victories. I think Covey once more prooved his ability to put this into a leadership perspective. Althoug it may not be absolutely necessary to read The Sever Habits in advance, it undoubtedly would be an advantage .

Dave Barry really fulfills the position of funniest man in America with this book; he makes every line something to laugh about.When I read this book I had to keep myself from laughing out loud, and scaring those.The book gets funnier and funnier as it goes along, but its not all just booger jokes, its a lot of jokes that make you think and have a meaning behind them.Don't get me wrong there still are plenty of booger jokes that everyone has come to know and love from Mr. Barry.The book covers many interesting topics like; Exploding animals and other assorted things, dogs, and buying cars.I gave Dave 5 stars for his epic novel Dave Barry Talks back, so go buy, rent it, what ever you have to do to get it, just do it.

My cousin bought me the audio version of this 7 years ago. I wasn't sure why, but I had heard that Dave Barry was funny. I listened to it on the way back to Sonoma County from San Diego. It was a fantastic 3 hours that took me from Mojave to just north of Fresno. Read more
