Evolution of the dollar...
I'm a professional currency trader, so I bought this book to learn more about the history of the US Dollar going back to its creation.This book does give a lot of the history of the dollar, but unfortunately it is rather boring.Some of the stories are enjoyable and possibly apocryphal, but the book is still a very slow read.90+% of the book is devoted to the history of the US currency prior to the 20th century, so be prepared for some deep history of colonial America.There is a lot of good information in the book, but sadly, the story is boring.

Another entertaining and instructive book by J. Goodwin
Jason Goodwin is a polarizing author, whose books are either hated or loved by his readers.As in his best-known previous book, "Lords of the Horizons", in "Greenback" he uses a lot of wonderful anecdotes to spice up his prose and keep the reader interested.As in that book, his grasp of the essence of the subject is pretty good, although one could disagree in the details. This is a very enjoyable work, well-written and researched, with numerous anecdotes and sidelights. I thought particularly strongthe early chapters on colonial and post-revolution America. One sees in Jefferson an early version of a common type today: the person who is adamantly opposed to debt and credit instruments because he himself is hopelessly swamped in debt. Today's debt paranoiac shuns credit cards and deferred payment schemes of all stripes in favor of cash (paper dollars and checks drawn on bank accounts). But for Jefferson those very paper dollars and banks were suspect. For him, the only "real" money was metallic: gold or silver. The only stores of value in his opinion were coins or bullion or land.Read more

Fantastic Book

Perfect means no splash
Flawless Consulting presents a clean slice of what it is to be a consultant.Just as a heaving boulder might fall into water, a consulting engagement has mass and impact on a client.A flawless consultation produces results without a splash.This book addresses what is necessary to do just that.It does a good job of covering the business aspect of consulting which include contracting, meeting management, identifying core issues and of course providing results.It also covers interesting subjects such as handling politics, strategies, ethics, body language and staying focused.
The Best of the Best
In my role as a Consultant and trainer and coach of other consultants, this is the most important book in my library.Block's original edition of this book, published in 1981 became such a classic that a second edition was created in 2000.

Great public speaking in one easy lesson?
In a single short cassette, containing the bare essence of the book, Roger Ailes distills the advice he has given countless politicians and business people about communicating. His advice is not terribly complex: be yourself, be interesting, be likable. The book title tells it all: you -- the totality of who you are, speech, gestures,tone, persona -- is as important to the mesasge you convey as the words you utter. The book makes perfect sense. But the problem is that speakers often don't know what it is about theiemselves that makes their speech unpersuasive. That's why folks like Ailes are in buisiness, to provide the objective feedback that breaks through the curtain of self-denial that many of us weave around ourselves.
Great Book
The book is very well written and the content are absolutely useful. A must-have to strengthen your communication and leadership skills.

Read this book before appearing on the O'Reilly Factor
I read this book very carefully, particularly the section on talking to the media, and I took every word to heart.I made sure when I went home to greet the throng of reporters waiting for me at my apartment (after I returned home from my temporary Accountant position) that I would take control of the situation and not let the news media bully me around.I immediately addressed the first reporter, simultaneously addressing the question and taking control of the situation by firmly stating "our performance has been stellar, our revenues have increased markedly and so has our marketshare, making our company an even more attractive target for institutional investors..."

The Aladdin factor
A pretty good book.I expected a "how-to" book, but was pleasantly surprised.The book is mostly anecdotes but really helps you focus, and lets you apply the "lessons learned" yourself.A very enjoyable read.

The World, Less Unravelled.
Well, I have yet to read a book by Dr. Peck that did not leave me grateful. This one is no exception. Not like his other books.
I give 4 or 5 stars to the "The Road Less Travelled", "People of the Lie", and "The Different Drum", but after reading 50 pages of fluff, I gave up on this one.

Collection of condescending cliches stressing the obvious
I found this book (I listened to the audio version) to be a major disappointment. The tips offered by Carnegie may have appeared insightful and provocative to assembly line supervisors back in the 1930s, but in the more enlightened 21st century a lot of his "good advice" comes across as irritatingly simplistic and sometimes even downright condescending and offensive. It's so easy and straightforward: Be nice to people, remember their first names, always be positive and you will instantly be liked by everyone. Overly obvious and trite - hardly the kind of stuff that would find its way into today's Harvard Business Review. Adding to the sense of irritation is the voice of the reader who tries to sound upbeat and optimistic, giving the whole performance the hollow feel of amateurish propaganda better suited to "Pleasantville" than to "Wall Street".
Back to Basics
This little book is recommended reading in the company I currently work for and unlike some of the other recommendations, Fish and Moving My Cheese for instance, this has some value.
Great "Beginners Guide"--Well Worth It.
As a 20 year veteran business consultant I strongly recommend this one because it presents the "meat and potatoes" of leadership.I personally am tired of all the "fad" books out there trying to put a spin on leadership when what is important are the essential skills of leadership.This book captures those skills and is great for a new leader.

Being a specialty roaster since 1975 and being part of a local specialty roaster group. I can tell you that starbuck's main accomplishment is their marketing ability. The coffee they distribute is garbage, and this doesn't have to come from my mouth, it comes from people who come to me after tasting their supposed "specialty coffee."Starbucks lost their specialty status the moment you could find them on every street corner and/or supermarket. Where they beat most is their non stop advertising and brainwashing of people. The reason starbucks got big was because there was noone around to fill that demand, or more importantly, due to the nature of the specialty market, noone who wanted to fill that position.The amount of coffee they are forced to produce lead to only one scenario, inferior quality.Concepts of mass production. great , helps a lot
This is a great tape set. I have used it for years. It helps me to "re-center" myself. In the hustle and bustle of life a short 15 minutes of meditations helps whole lot. As you practice the tape, you have to add your own goal. Couple this with the LAW OF ATTRACTION by Micheal Losier.

Not as good as DeJong's other work
I am a fan of DeJongs's and feel like his work has dramatically influenced my life.His first tape, The Silva Method, was better and had cleaner, more usable exercises.Read more

I've read Think and GRow Rich at least 20 times, and now Read this one at least 2times going on Three now..I received Spiritual blessings because of these principles that cannot be measured in money or material things.. only in the eternal. Now I am being prepared for My wealth, My Million dollar ideas to manifest into reality. Cringely was there and part of the epic tale of Silicon Valley
He gets it -- from his first chapter when he says that constant change is the only norm in the PC business and the floppy disk days to Fry's Electronics and Bill Gates mom Mary-- some great insider information. Cringley is a former Stanford professor and foreign correspondent. Great to have on your shelf and look back to what was what back then. In his final chapters he says "surfing is the perfect metaphor for high technology business-- little did he know in 1993 how right he was and would be! Of course on the last page, he says no more phones or TV sets by the middle of this next decade -- like 2005 :))No more computers-- hmm what am I keyboarding on. He talks about the rise of multiple devices and of course we have those too...funny how most of this stuff doesn't replace the earlier stuff-- just more boxes and goodies to cart around or clutter the desk. But oh that productivity.

Interesting
This is an interesting book. If you ever wanted to know about the companies that have ruled the computer world, just read this book, you'll learn about them in a pretty funny way. If you're an entrepreneur, you'll learn a lot from this book.
