3-0 out of 5 stars Tries to make monetary policy interesting
I have always been interested in the secretive world of the Federal Reserve. The goal of the work is to provide an inside look on how it really operates. Despite its importance, writing on the Fed and its long time chairman Alan Greenspan is difficult because the topic is very dry and boring. The author does all he can to make it interesting, but after awhile all of the stories of rate hike and cuts all sound the same.
5-0 out of 5 stars How to feel your way to the correct interest rate
Woodward will give you a feel for how Greenspan feels (this feeling is developed from massive amounts of economic dated and dicussions with other experts) his way along to a decision on interest rates. There is no clear-cut method for getting the interest rates to just the right level. Now that Greenspan is gone and left us with a boom, we have to be concerned that Ben Bernanke will also develop just the right feel. And probably more importantly--may he be just as lucky as Alan Greenspan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fed primer
A great intro to our central banking system that shows us just how tenuously we sway between prosperity and decay, and how guys like Alan Greenspan ride the serpent in the hopes they can get it to go where they want it to, with mixed results. I find it nothing short of existentially frightening that the best economists in the world really don't fully understand how modern macroeconomics works, and that our most important fiscal policies are based on incomplete models.

5-0 out of 5 stars Required reading
Wow, this book should be given to every graduate entering the workforce along with their diploma. Not just about cards, but also contains business etiquette, marketing tips and techniques, and (un)common sense. Wish I had read it 20 years ago. Required reading for pretty much anybody who has to go out into the world and deal with another person.

5-0 out of 5 stars SOME EXCELLENT IDEAS IN AN EASY-TO-READ BOOK!
If you are looking for some good ideas on using your business card to find (or stay in touch with) customers, this is a perfect book for your library. It's a fun read, and you'll probably think over and over "why didn't I think of that?" However, if you know everything there is to know about selling (or think you do), this book probably is not for you. For the small amount of money this book costs, you'll get the price of the book back many times if you just put one or two of the ideas to use.In that respect, it's a real bargain.I saw the positive review the Washington Post gave this book.It certainly lived up to my expectations. I liked it.

2-0 out of 5 stars It was Okay - That's the best I could do...Just Okay
I agree with a previous reviewer who stated "It was too basic...this is stuff any college kid would know."However, that being said, one can't just start in the middle of a topic and write a book.I thought it was more like reading a business cards for dummies edition type book.If you are new and starting out in the business world and never owned a business card, then you should probably read this. Not to say I didn't find a few useful tips, but this book certainly hasn't turned my business upside down or changed my life as the editiorial reviews would lead you to believe. Those reviews were probably written by close friends and family.

4-0 out of 5 stars This was a spectacular book
Brett Gerson, a fifteen year old kid who's disrespectful and extremely wealthy. All of this wealth ends when Brett's father is arrested for insider trading. He loses everything from his house all the way down to his five thousand dollar stereo. Now he has to live with his Aunt Mary who loves kissing him on the forehead. He gets a job at a place called Fast Burger, where the boss is what he thinks a big jerk. He then quits and begins to clean pools with Alfie, the seventy year old guy who use to clean his old pool. You will not want to put this book down, especially at the sad yet joyous ending. Read POOLBOY, it's a great book to make you laugh, be mad, and even emotional.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pool Boy
Pool Boy by Michael Simmons is way on top. This book really kept me going. This is about a boy who goes through alot and then realizes that what he lost wasn't important but his family and friends. His father pulled a stupid move and his 74 year-old friend,Alfie, went on.
4-0 out of 5 stars brett garrison speaks
I picked up this book on a whim at the library, and ended up loving it.The style of writing Michael Simmon's uses for his book is different from the books I usally read becuase it is more of Brett telling the story of the summer he turns 16, after his dad goes to jail and their family looses all their money.

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I knew about this when our children were growing up..
This tape series is great -- not only for working with children, but also adults. Somehow it's easier for us to buy a tape like this when we're considering it helping our children...in the end it helps all of us. I'velistened to this tape series several times, and can apply just about allthe concepts to the adult working environment. I highly recommend it to theparticipants in the Management Skills Seminars I teach. Denis has awonderful, smooth voice to listen to, and he's a great storyteller. The definition of success (at least in America) is outward accomplishment, whether it's amassing a fortune or leaving a legacy of influence. But a personal sense of well-being or fulfillment--finding love and time with family--is often the inward measurement of success. The two need not be mutually exclusive, says Chérie Carter-Scott, an internationally recognized motivational speaker and management consultant who's written several other "rule" books, such as Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Discovering Success Beyond Convention and the Material
"If Success Is a Game, These Are the Rules by Cherie Carter-Scott, Ph.D. provides a thoroughly researched, thoughtful account outlining the ten rules for achieving success alongside fulfillment. Her interview subjects convey compelling life stories with sometimes shockingly unexpected outcomes. Through her insightful research, she reveals the mindset and the heart necessary for achieving a fulfilled life. In the acknowledgements of Kirby Thibeault's book titled Wealth, he highlights how "societies are built on the underlying values they instill in their peoples, which seem to change from time to time. However, what does not ever change is the beauty of the human spirit and all that it can accomplish when realized." Cherie Carter-Scott, Ph.D., like Kirby Thibeault, understands with clarity that success is something beyond mere materialism and common convention. As taught by Kirby Thibeault, the greatest conceivable success is personal achievement for the betterment of all humanity."

The hype and market valuations surrounding certain Internet stocks may lead one to conclude that the e-commerce race is over--or nearly so. Clearly, the Internet has caught traditional companies off guard, giving the more nimble dot coms a huge head start. The next few years, will be extremely important for deciding the loyalties of Internet consumers.Companies that don't transition to the Internet when their customers do, will be left behind. The first step is to when your customers will transition to the Internet. To this end, the author outlines a method called Technographics, developed by Forrester Research, that categorizes customers based on their attitudes towards technology. This method allows you to know how many of your customers are online, how many will be online soon, and how many may never be online.Technographics classifies consumers based on three factors that influence buying behavior:

Internet is disturbing the "old economy", but we do not always understand what and where are the changes and how we can move to get a chance to compete in this new environment. Another question is about the urgency to take action.5-0 out of 5 stars A fast-track guide to predicting web success!

4-0 out of 5 stars It Helps
This is helpful. This can be useful for those that are new to sales. Some of the information should already be intuitively known by people that have common sense.Tom Hopkins is just as good as many of the other sales masters.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just awful
This audio tape was embarrassingly useless.Hot tips like "don't wear too much jewelry", "where to sit at a conference table", and "use a cell phone and fax machine" don't get thelistener anywhere close to understanding how to close a sale, how toovercome buyer hesitation, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sales Tips That Really Work
Tom has a very easy approach to selling--one that works. He focuses on the words that make all the difference in a sales presentation and puts forward very clear solutions that can gently push the prospect into buying. I love his non-agressive manner which is so different from the pushy salestypes that tend to dominate in the market-place today.Use his principlesand it could pay for the cost of this cassette many times over. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Read
Having read and enjoyed "In Search for Excellence", I decided to also read "A Passion for Excellence". This book proposes that it is unnecessary to go through the traditional data-based doctrine of management. Instead the book advocates championing an innovative, customer and people oriented spirit. The authors give hundreds of actual, real-world examples, focusing on the key areas of competence that add up to excellence, offering scores of anecdotes and practical insights to help all business people on their road to leadership, success, and more importantly, excellence.
5-0 out of 5 stars SUPERB CASE HISTORIES OF WHAT PRACTICAL PASSION CAN DO
Many people have written that they like Tom Peters, but do not think that he has much to say that is new or different.Others criticize Peters for being changeable in his views. What these people miss is that Tom Petersis passionate about using passion for customers, employees, and everyoneelse to create great results for all of us.By awakening our passion, wewill do more, we will try more, and we will succeed more often. In manyways, this book is much more important than IN SEARCH OF EXCELLENCE.APASSION FOR EXCELLENCE clearly shows that passionate leadership about theright things sets a good example and the right tone for the organization. This book is helpful in that each section is meant to be read as astand-alone, so you can go to the places that you did not feel verypassionate about when you read IN SEARCH OF EXCELLENCE and get some goodreinforcement about the value of passion in that area.A good companionpiece if you need more passion and self-direction is Tony Robbins' AWAKENTHE GIANT WITHIN.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped get me out of my shell.
This is a good book for someone who can act on things. I was shy most of my life and worked hard to earn a degree from a good school only to fear talking to people so
2-0 out of 5 stars would make a good magazine article, but not a very good book.
There are many pages that are just completely wasted.

2-0 out of 5 stars People who love people
Who would want to "work a room"?Someone trying to sell something, maybe? If you're not selling anything overtly, this book will not be of interest.I say overtly because, as someone once pointed out, we're all selling something, but we need not do so overtly or manifestly. But by our behavior.Actions and words and all. This book, and others like it, all have us looking outward for gratification, basically from other people, people "in the room.""In the room" can be a metaphor for the "in crowd."Do you want in with the in crowd?Maybe you'll learn some tools from this book. Then again, you might do better looking inward at yourself.Listen to one of the great modern inward-seekers, Vernon Howard (excuse the gender specificity, it's an old book): "A man owes nothing to any other human being on earth except to be himself, but since few see this, most men stagger under the burdensome debt of artificial behavior. It is a tragic illusion that we can do anything for others before we have done something for ourselves."The writer of "How to work a room" is essentially focusing on how to improve your artificial behavior.Diximus. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I'm 42 and I Loved It!
My daughter has a list of books to read for a type of competition in her school.I order them for her at the library and she reads them.Every once in awhile I pick one up and read it to be sure they have decent content, etc. This one just looked good to me from reading the back cover and also the illustration.I read it and laughed and laughed. It was very enjoyable. It had serious moments in the book that helped round out what was happening in the story. It was well written.I would have to say that the author, although writing this for children, put in things that adults would chuckle over and enjoy; things you would understand if you watch old black and white movies. It's so enjoyable that I ordered a copy for our family to own.We have 8 children and I think all of them will enjoy this one!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Beloved Dearly
The Beloved Dearly is about 4 kids that start funerals for pets.Pet owners give them money and their dead pet for a funeral. The best part about this book is that one of the kid's names is Swimming Pool and she is very emotional during the funerals. This story is very humorous and is great to read.It will make you laugh. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars DIANAS WOES
I really liked this book but it talked more about Diana and Charles Marriage and Diana's childhood than the boys. It was good but I think that it should have talked more about the boys than their marital woes and about members of the royal family. If it didn't emphasize so much on the royal family and the maritial woes, and talked more about the boys, it would have been a better book. Certain parts of this book was similiar to Diana by Andrew Morton

2-0 out of 5 stars To Much Re-hashing; Not Enough About the Boys
Frankly, I'm tired of the re-play concerning Diana's alleged antics. If I read one more time about her alleged comments to Tiggy or her alleged harassment phone calls to Oliver Hoare's house, I think I'll scream.
2-0 out of 5 stars Princess Di and the Younger Men in Her Life
Anderson's book is 342 pages in length and it's a decent primer for those who know very little about the sons of the world's most famous princess. Anderson stays focused on the boys, for the duration of the book, talking about the relationship between William and Harry and the important people who influence them.
