Generally Good Information In A Dated Book
I have read several books on body language, and find this book in the middle of the pack. The general information in the book is good overall, though rarely surprising. Although body language probably does not change within a culture very rapidly, this book is very dated, and was, in fact, originally published in 1971. The book betrays its age by references to elaborate hair grooming and preening customs among hippies, and an extensive analysis of smoking behavior during business negotiations, which, while still a factor in some predominantly Asian countries, is now a nearly defunct custom in most of the west, certainly in corporate America. While people interested in the history of body language may find the accounts of pipe lighting and cigarette extinguishing practices interesting, it is largely a distraction. The illustrations also reveal the age of the book: they are all black and white pen and ink drawings, and while they are not terrible, there are much better illustrations available now.
To old and outdated!
Actually this books was recommended by another Amazon reader. Has some good reviews but just didn't do it for me. Small book not enough information! I browsed right through it in no time. If I were you I would go with something with more pages and more info. This book did make me realize that I already new most of the body language signs. My mistake.....I recommend a book on face reading.
Interesting book, a little lacking on content
"How to Read a Person Like a Book" is an interesting book about reading a person's body language in order to interpret what they are feeling.This concept is obviously interesting to all of us as beening able to determine when a person is communicating to you non-verbally has a lot of potential uses.

Road map to Living
I have been presenting business & personal development workshops since 1987 focusing primarily on small business women and families. I only found Thomas Leonard because my girlfriend Nancy spoke so highly of him. Looked him up, purchased the book and realized I have used the many strategies he suggested for the workshops I conduct. I believe this book is the ONE that should be on every person list to purchase and apply. He offers step by step proven, simple practices to move your life forward and manage your living. Thomas Leonard is not for everyone, but...
If you can get through the first chapter on "selfishness," this book really does have a lot to offer.Using charged words like "become incredibly selfish" and absolutes like "tolerate nothing" was an integral part of Leonard's in-your-face, we-don't-have-time-for-you-not-to-get-this style.So many of us in the professional coaching industry have been touched by Leonard.We owe him a big debt of gratitude for making the profession of "coaching" the big opportunity it is for us today.This book is a good legacy to the man, as well as to what he thought was important for us to understand in our lives and in the lives of our clients.

If I could buy everyone this tape, I would
The methods used in "Napoleon Hill's Keys to Positive Thinking" are relatively simple at first blush but oh, so powerful. The system works on the proven principle that if you put on a mental smile, soon you will have something to smile about.
Brought the best out of me.

Points Out Some Interesting Facts
The authors point out some intersting facts in the Bible. In answer to one of the rewiewers who gave this book a one for "abusing" Jesus' teachings, there is nothing in the Bible that says it is abusing anything to pull out truisms and helpisms from Scripture to help yourself in life for a purpose other than getting saved. And although the authors' focus may have only been to help a person becoming a good leader or better, regardless, their use of biblical principles still may encourage pagans (non-christians) to see that the Bible is not valueless or teaches only on certain subjects (salvation, sin, and hell, etc.) and that if it is valuable in that way, then it is not simply a book made my "drunks" or simpleminded persons whose only goal was getting money out of people.
Leadership from the Greatest Leader Of All Time!
This book neatly identifies major themes in leadership theory and illustrates their being practiced and taught by Jesus.While it is somewhat thin, I consider this perhaps the single best leadership book ever written nevertheless.In 200 years this book will enjoy just as much applicability as it does today and it did 2000 years ago.Few other volumes can make such claims.Regardless of whether you are (or hope to be) a military, business, political, ministry, athletic or social leader, this is the first book to read.

I have not read the book, so please ignore my rating which I had to fill in because it's a compulsory field. I disagree with Pr. Gary Nokleberg's viewpoint. As a spiritual person, I believe God can meet us anywhere and everywhere (even in the boardroom). If CEOs and senior managers want Jesus to teach them something about leadership and management, I'm sure God is gracious and flexible enough to meet their needs even if these needs appear to be non-religious. Who can tell after having been inspired by Jesus' teachings, these people will not come to a fuller appreciation of Jesus in a later part of their life's journeys? ... Read more

That's Right - Shoot for Billion with a "B"
This book, more than any other book on creating wealth, spells it out. If you want a get rich quick plan - sorry - this book is about the slow and steady! Can you say Tortoise and the Hare? Just like everyone else, I was taught to get a good education, get a job and live happily ever after until reaching retirement - get my gold watch and the company will take care of me. Hah! The truth is, the old ways don't work. The people who are profiled in this book were all successful in their own way.
Great read - well worth your time!
This is a terrific book & I highly recommend it to aspiring business moguls of all ages. Though the title and the coverare a tad "over the top," the substance delivers. This is a thorough analysis of some of the more common strategies used in achieving great riches. Throughout the book, the author introduces us to a dozen or so most accomplished businessmen in history. Specifically, we learn of whatis it that they actually did that helped them achieve great success in - arguably -the most competitive field of human endeavors - accumulating great wealth.The book is well balanced as business strategy descriptions seamlessly intertwine with historical and biographical insights. Martin Frdson, a terrific writer,is one of the very few people who could pull it off. A bit of context here is in order: Martin Fridson is a very accomplished guy. With an undergrad in history and an MBA (both from Harvard), he gives the readera unique vantage point on combining both history and business strategy. Really Empowering!

I've read and listened to MANY "success books", If you are serious about having a great life and being successful, you need to read more than one success book. This book is one of the best.Most important is that there is "to do" lists and blank forms that make it easy TO DO.The only thing more important than reading all these success books is to ACT ON THEIR ADVICE.Rich makes it easy to act, that is paramount on the road to a successful life.

Sweet Success
As a professional personal coach I found Rich Fettke's "Extreme Success" an excellent resource for tips and techniques for use with my clients (not to mention myself!). My favorite is his idea of dealing wtih fears that inhibit us from doing the things we need to do to move forward in our lives. Called "dancing with your protector," it's an imaginative and powerful way to reframe the obstacles in our lives in a way that can actually propel us forward with a greater liklihood of success. Makes it clear why you need to build your own network!
I had thought I had read and/or heard just about everything
Great for "networking beginners"
This material is very valuable for someone who is just learning about how to network-- especially for young adults, new college graduates, etc.We use this material as a standard part of a curriculum on networking we do for college women.It's true that we don't use or recommend his exact tools but a large part of learning about how to network is adopting the mentality of recognizing the opportunities, and of recognizing reciprocity.I think his material is inspiring and fun to listen to, and I highly recommend it for "beginners".His examples of networking success and networking blunders are eye opening.I like this material, and I recommend it!

Good Ideas but Alittle Out-dated
I think this audio cassette gives some good ideas and reasons for keeping in touch with people and learning how to network. I think alot of the ideas talked about are really worthwhile things to put into practice.

Success does not equal happiness.
I read in one of the Harvard Business Review Journal series how people learn best by reading or listening. Most are a combination of both but we all tend to one side or the other. If your a listener and your ready for a life change then you owe it to yourself to listen to these disks. They are mesmerizing and refreshing.So much of career books and tapes today are all about setting goals, listing accomplishments, competeing, negotiating, conquering.I think a reflection of our culture in America.The success oriented approach may get you a great paying job but will it make you happy?When I first started listening to Rick I tried to understand what his main point was.And this is what I came up with - success does not equal happiness.Not writing down goals, wandering, following a whim, getting lost in a project that has no apparent meaning or rational may be the beginning of something magnificent. That is not a quote just some added thoughts about the audio book.Thanks Rick.

Alternative to Conventional "Job Hunting"
Rick Jarow provides a much-needed alternative to the conventional "write a winning resume" and "knock 'em dead in your job interview" approach to finding a livelihood.Most career seekers are told to HUNT for a job -- i.e., use the hunter-gatherer model to find a position that just happens to be open at the specific time you are looking for a job.Once you've bagged yourself a job, then you are expected to mold yourself to fit the parameters your new employer wants you to fit into.Jarow advocates an more organic approach where finding a job is an outgrowth of creating a life that is right for you.As you associate with people/organizations whose values resonate with you, you will eventually connect with people who can steer you towards work that fits YOU.It is the difference between showing off a series of stuffed, mounted trophies on a wall as opposed to a lush, colorful garden you've cultivated yourself to represent your life's work.

I recommend the audio tapes over the paperback...
I bought "Creating the Work You Love" about a year ago. It clicked with me. He's writing for people who come to life from a spiritual perspective, and have grown fairly skillful at that side of life, but are awkwardly deficient in the nitty gritty of reality. Jarow understands that the nitty gritty is also spiritual, and so he approaches the good old question of jobs and career from a wise and spiritual place, plucking examples inspirations from both Eastern and Western ancient traditions (although he organizes the process through the system of the chakras), but also from history and popular culture and his own life and counseling practice.Read more

Too short
I am ambivalent about this product. On one hand, what Brian Tracy is saying is some really powerful stuff and I believe all of it works, if only I had the tenacity to implement all that he's suggesting in my own life. But only 2 hours? I hope these CDs have a high replay value, or I'm going to be bitter about my "investment".

Lacks Soul
Yawn...another self-help book (this one is geared towards the would be business leaders of the future.)I had to read this for a graduate class and if it were not required reading I would have certainly quit reading it after the first few pages.
Not the regular "Let me show you how to lead"
If you are looking for a book with a recipe that tells you how to lead, forget this one. Bolman and Deal really get to the core of leading, the soul. No management technics, just pure leadership from the heart. If you don't like to feel humble first before learning how to get to the top, then this is surely not your choice. The best book about leadership, believe me, I know about this.

Don't wait more than 30 seconds to buy this book!

There was a consistent pattern of the italic matter in which Lewis* kept to his focus "business" and businessman (and bussiness women) and just a brief mention of activity with his wife and children(the book opens with a lengthy discussion of his "humble beginnings" andhowhis older relatives,especially his grandmother were his greatest strength as a boy, although he does mention his great love for his mother and respect for his step-father and siblings)...His thrill for being accepted at "Harvard" never left him and there is a bldg for law students named after him on Harvard's campus.He gives insight into the wars within in the brokerage world(and how one should be careful what one sells,even with biggies like "McCall Patterns" since if the company should falter in any wayshortly after you've sold it,you might be legally held responsible to the buyers) and how "other values" matter more when he gets in swiftly fading health... his biographer ,Blair(co-author of the book published posthumously) does a marvelous insert between the Lewis's italics and also includes : an epilogue(others were left to mourn for him on01/19/1993); an index ; &a list of all who contributed to "his* story).It was a book worth reading.

Bio/autobiography of a superstrong personality
I've been reading more business related stuff as of late, and I picked up "Why Should White Guys..." a while back. Reginald Lewis earns tremendous respect in my eyes for his intense energy and willingness to take risks to achieve. Reading this book, you can see what a trailblazer he actually was as he pulled off a seemingly impossible buyout of Beatrice Foods and then drove them to strong economic performance.
Marvelous, instructive, educational

Just in time
I'm going through a difficult time at work. All the people in my department who were here when I started a year ago have left and I'm the last one left. The new hires are gossips and backstabbers and I found myself stooping to their level. We have evaluations and our first staff meeting meant to blame and accuse others coming up. I found this book just in time. Alot of this is positive reenforcement of concepts most people know but its great to have the reminder to me about how people behave and when to just let the small stuff go and its a great pick me up. I keep my copy in my purse and read it on breaks when co workers are getting me down.
