5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This books gives great tips and suggestions on how to start conversations. It even give you sample ice breakers.Good book to have and keep around to refresh your small talk skills.

1-0 out of 5 stars Highly Overrated
I consider my self pretty well read in this genre of self-help books. The first thing I would share with anyone reading this review is that the advice offered in this book is pretty obvious and sometimes just plain bizarre.I know this has been shared in other reviews of this book, but after reading some other "independent" reviews of this book I felt compelled to tell you the honest truth about this book. The lines offered in this book on initiating conversation with strangers in social settings made me and my sister laugh while reading them. They are both awkward and bizarre at the same time.If you're looking for a good book on sharpening your social skills keep moving cause this is not the one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not enough information for a book....
The key points of this book would fit nicely into about 15-20 of it's small printed pages... I can summarize the content in this review. First the author gives her history... Next, she explains to not be shy and to approach people in conversation and people standing alone.... She stresses that you must really strive to take an interest and care for the people you are talking with. She tells you to only ask engaging questions (e.g. What have you done today? Instead of How was your day?) She devotes a few pages to body language and tells you to take note to always remember the other persons name and.... then she explains how to gracefully exit a conversation by leading out with "I have to go...". While I don't find myself in disagreement with Ms. Fine on any of her advice, I did feel about 75% of the book is common knowledge.... I read the entire book in a 2 hour period and because I felt like I didn't learn much I don't recommend it without picking up a copy and skimming through it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very funny weasel book
"Weasel is a funny word. You can improve the humor value of almost any situation by injecting a weasel into it."5-0 out of 5 stars Funny and Funnier
Dave Barry really fulfills the position of funniest man in America with this book; he makes every line something to laugh about. When I read this book I had to keep myself from laughing out loud, and scaring those. The book gets funnier and funnier as it goes along, but its not all just booger jokes, its a lot of jokes that make you think and have a meaning behind them.Don't get me wrong there still are plenty of booger jokes that everyone has come to know and love from Mr. Barry. The book covers many interesting topics like; Exploding animals and other assorted things, dogs, and buying cars.I gave Dave 5 stars for his epic novel Dave Barry Talks back, so go buy, rent it, what ever you have to do to get it, just do it.

5-0 out of 5 stars As my introduction to the author, it is the best!
My cousin bought me the audio version of this 7 years ago. I wasn't sure why, but I had heard that Dave Barry was funny. I listened to it on the way back to Sonoma County from San Diego. It was a fantastic 3 hours that took me from Mojave to just north of Fresno. Read more

Covey stands tall above the rest in a world rife with self-improvement seminars. His practical wisdom can be applied to the workplace, marriage and parenting and truly enhance your life! Covey's strong Christian faith and commitment to family are evident in his philosophies and can only enrich every aspect of the whole person - which is what his 7 Habits are all about. 5-0 out of 5 stars The twenty one principles serve as a further extention of the seventeen success principles in Napoleon Hill's 'Law of Success'!
'Forbes has called John Templeton "one of the handful of true investment greats in a field of crowded mediocrity and bloated reputations."
5-0 out of 5 stars A Guidebook for Life
The Templeton Plan is a guidebook for living life. Templeton lays down 21 laws on how to be successful in your personal life and in your occupation. Interwoven with the Templeton Plan is an autobiographical story of how Templeton started from modest means growing up in Tennesse into a multi-billion dollar investor and money manager. It's an incredible and inpiring story. Not every day or in just any book can you get great, proven advice from a billionaire, but this text is a classic treatise on being successful from someone who not only knows as much about the subject as anyone but also has taken the time to formulate it into a teachable package. It is wisdom in the truest form. This book is cheap and more than worth every cent. It's also one that I will read again in the future which is the highest mark that I can give any book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text for career exploration class
I first read this book about 5 years ago, drawn to it because of the appreciation of the investment prowess of the Author.I have long been a shareholder of the Templeton Funds. When I agreed to teach a class of 8thgraders a "Career Exploration" class I knew this would be a 1stratetext.The class read the book over a period of weeks as we reviewedthe book each class period. Each of them was then required to write areview. Each student gleaned different messages from the book. All spokehighly of it.It is my belief that it will continue to speak to them asthey shape their careers and their lives. Personally, I can think of nobetter gift for a young adult, or for a foreward thinking adolescent, thanthis book ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Blink twice if you love it!
I blink twice all day long.I read this book in just one sitting, I could not put it down.To see how success is tied to a subconscience level of thinking is so right on.It is well written, very entertaining, and very eye opening.
2-0 out of 5 stars Apples & Oranges
Gladwell writes well and the book is interesting. I read about half the book before I knew it! But I was jolted when Gladwell suddenly changed the focus of the book. In the first half of the book snap-judgments are good, then theyre suddenly bad. "What's up with that?" I asked myself.
4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining-- a little bit thinly sliced.
The Salon review of this book makes a remark that Gladwell's mission is to be entertaining, and not useful. I think that if you read this book in the spirit of that remark, you will not be disappointed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Should be from bad to worse
Despite trying very hard to deny that this is just another fad management book - there is nothing new in this title.Clueless managers will recite the core principals of this book and treat them as gospel as they try to improve their bottom line.It is also worth noting that at least one of the "great" organizations in the book, Fannie May, has imploded in an accounting scandal. Not the worst fad management book ever written, but that isn't saying much.

4-0 out of 5 stars A huge business hit of the early 90s that has aged pretty well
This is one of the business classics in the past twenty years. It has sold a huge number of copies and I am sure many of those purchased copies were actually read!As impressive as its sales numbers have been, the way it has affected the approach to the way business was discussed and talked about for the past dozen years has been even more impressive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best NLP bookfor recommended readings in training
NLP is the study of excellence and the technology of achievement and success. NLP is a wonderful model to enhance communication, personal change and personal development. The way you think affects the internal and external language and the actions you take. This in turn affects the way you behave and the reactions you get. I have used NLP techniques while trainingmeirc participants on all subjects in dubai seminars and it is certainly as defined "The difference that makes the difference". Learn it, use it and develop it, the results keep getting better and better.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Technology for the New World
Neuro Semantics has always been based on what WORKS - as established by timeless trial and error - rather than chasing the latest theory. That is what I liked about this book. It distilled the applications away from the fluff and theory. I've learned in 3 hours of reading enough methodology to give me the edge in the collective bargaining agreements I frequently facilitate.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great NLP technics !
I was totally new to this subject and found the CD to be a great way to learn and try the different proposed techniques. They have in deed helped me and I use them almost everyday. NLP is a powerful way to associate/focus on what I want and disassociate/liberate from what I don't want. I really like it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a tale of two maniacs
Once upon a time in America there was a tabulating company executive who had almost done time for illegal business practices. This executive believed that the only way that he could stay in business was by selling the best tabulating machines on the market, and mercilessly crushing his competitors.Unfortunately for humanity, this maniac was doing business in a country run by another maniac, who had come to power by fomenting ethnic hatred.Even as things went down the drain, and the persecution of the Jews and other minorities reached loathsome heights, the American business executive didn't want to terminate his activities in Germany, and was supportive enough of the Nazis to accept the highest medal the Nazis could give him.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book is chilling, and is a "must read"
Reading this book, and the knowledge that IBM had during WWII and thegenocide of millins of humans puts a face on cooprorate greed and hate unjlike any of the comparisions given to Halliburton today. IBM aided Hitler in his termination of the Jews, and others, and it has never, to my knowledge owned up to this, nor have they done any actions to make changes in the way companies help with genocide. Great book, great writer.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Extraordinary Work
As proud as I am to be an American, this thoroughly documented, utterly revealing book, has for the first time made me look at the extents to which U.S. corporate greed and the amorality of one man, Thomas J. Watson, chairman of IBM, will go to satisfy there lust for money and power.

5-0 out of 5 stars A guide to developing value-centered leadership.
Donnithorne has provided a practical and concise work on developingvalue-centered leadership in any organization. He addresses the issues ofleadership within a moral and ethical context by: 1. Reviewing West Point'sapproach to teaching value-centered leadership (which is enjoyable to readabout in-and-of-itself). 2. Providing anecdotal examples from his own lifeas a military engineer who has worked in combat. 3. Providing examples in avariety of practical business settings, many which will be recognized bythe reader. 4. And, providing the reader with a summary of key questionswhich lead to the core of value-driven leadership. Throughout the book,Donnithorne references a wide array of current and past literaturevalidating and providing substance and context for the methods developed byWest Point.4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Overview of Military Leadership & Management Style

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!!
Very informative and well written. This book definately had some good tips and advice on how to improve your public speaking. I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good to lay a strong foundation....
I do a fair amount of public speaking and have found this book very helpful in many respects. It does an excellent job of covering the basics, includes some great tips that you might not think of on your own and also introduces some advanced topics without overwhelming you with lots of detail.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Dummies and Non-Dummies Alike
While I am not a huge fan of buying a book advertised as being for "dummies," I find the "...for Dummies" series to be very helpful for those of us unfamiliar with a certain topic. Needless to say, I am very unfamiliar with public speaking, unless you count the class I had in high school ten years ago, which I barely remember.

1-0 out of 5 stars Textbook of mindless gobbeldygook
John Tuccillo makes it painfully clear that he has a Ph.D. in economics through this book.It reads like a textbook, and contains about as many relevent facts. He endlessy cites economic figures and studies, then continuously asserts that realtors need to change their business model, rarely giving specific advice - except for the moronic suggestion to sell your clients' financial information as a way to produce income (never mind your fiduciary resposibility, I guess).Don't waste your time with this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT for the young & lively!
After reading [a very different] lively book with real-life stories, I found this book to be dry & slow-reading. 5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for surviving/thriving in real estate
Simply, "on target", unbiased, straight forward, clear and absolutely compelling. The real estate industry has been experiencing massive change over the past couple of years. And yet, most real estateprofessionals (60%+) have remained on the sidelines - waiting to see howthese changes will impact there small business."We do businessdifferently here", "this market is different", "I don'tneed that stuff", "I'll wait to see what my compeition doesfirst", etc, etc;If you have heard yourself saying these or similarthings and you are not heeding the messages Tuccillo sets forth in thisbook, then you either don't have a business plan or your business plan isabout to expire. Some will remain in denial and some will recognize theopportunity and take action. The question every agent and broker needs toask themselves is whether they are willing to let their competition"get there first".Unless you are considering an exit strategyin the very near term, read John Tuccillo's book, then answer thatquestion. ... Actually, his point is that you have the answer to everything, if only you can achieve clarity - knowing exactly what you want and how to get there - while disciplining yourself to work toward your objective. Can it really be that easy? Well one thing's for sure, reading this book will make it a lot easier. This volume offers 21 short chapters of clearly presented, easy to absorb (if not always strictly grammatical) material. We from getAbstract recommend it to anyone in any field who aspires to be promoted. After all, would you turn down more money? We didn't think so.

4-0 out of 5 stars An great case study on what makes effective leadership
The Leadership Engine, by Noel Tichy, is devoted to describing how great leaders push and lead their corporations toward success. Using case studies and research, this book shows that leader driven organizations are more successful, rather than mere manager led. In so doing, the author shows how leader led organizations have traits that lead them towards achievement of their goals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Among my first batch of books...greatest influence on attaining personal achievement in life!
The first batch of significant books that had the greatest influence on me in terms of attaining personal achievement includes mostly Napoleon Hill's books:
5-0 out of 5 stars The Distilled Power Of Thinking And Growing Rich...
Sure, this is a wonderful starter kit (yes, I do have this book...) in addition to Hill's other books like "Think and Grow Rich", "The Master Key To Riches", et al. But more than that, it is a primer that makes you hungry for the mental nourishment of his full "Law Of Success" which I have just ordered through Amazon. And why am I giving this distillation five stars? C'mon, isn't it obvious, through these *distilled* principles you get a pretty good taste of the "spirit-voice" of Napoleon Hill. And when he says in later versions of "Think and Grow Rich" - 'through these pages we have met'. You know what he means here, even though it is shortened and edited. So, I've said enough, get started, happy reading.
