i've given MANY of these away because...
Advice is not revolutionary but good definitions
It turns out I had taken most of the steps Suze outlines in this book several years ago so I can't say I found out anything earth shaking.
Overrated
Suze gives some good advice, especially to set up a will and revocable trust to help protect your family members, etc.But, it is a little too emotional and overdone."If you would just save that $2 a week you spend on whatever, you would have X amount of money on 20 years" over and over is a bit ridiculous.I really disagree with her dislike of professional money managers (I am not one) and the "follow your heart" approach.Most people who manage their own investments do not do as well as they would with a professional. In fact, many fail miserably. If you need medical advice, ask a doctor, if you need your kitchen redone, hire a contractor, and if you need advice on how to invest your money, given your situation and goals, ask a financial planner for help.Many people are in crummy dog stocks and worthless no-load mutual funds because they "followed their heart" and chased last years winners.Not a bad audio book, but my copy was really outdated (1997)--almost 10 years old.Buy something less emotional and more recent. ... A great inspiration for any coach
I am a first year basketball coach and found this book very inspirational.It makes me want to work even harder than I have and set higher standards for myself.Pat Riley is an excellent motivator and role model.I like any coach who is willing to write about his major losses in his career as well as greatest triumphs.A must read for any coach.However, he needs to write a sequel since he won his new title this summer.Go Heat!

Doesn't make the playoffs.
Of the over fifty books on leadership/coaching that I've read, this is by far the least useful.There are anecdotes for basketball fans, but as far as useful ideas on success and leadership there are few.It is the most useless book I've read in the coaching/leadership field (even worse than Coach K's or Dean Smith's).

The canon of Sales Lit goes back only a couple of decades.In that canon, Neil Rackham's first "Spin Selling" takes a special place as one of the classics or founding texts.So, if you need help preparing a meeting with one of your largest accounts, take the time to re-read this classic text.
Revealing selling process
SPIN Selling illustrates the validaty of the method by showing how real Fortune 500 sales forces have improved by asking the right questions to uncover customer pain.This book will enlighten sales managers and any representatives who manage large sales transactions. Also, executives can benefit from the insights about large sales. I have personally improved my sales numbers greatly after utilizing the ideas in SPIN Selling.This book deserves a place in all-time sales manual classics.

Great book on asking the right questions
A very good and interesting book and very easy to read. For me this book was very convincing for 2 important reasons: 1. SPIN selling is based upon scientific research of many sales calls for many years. 2. The idea of SPIN selling is about the fact that customers decide whether they buy somehting (or advance the sales call) upon their own ideas, their own beliefs, their own assumptions.

No nonsense is colorful and interesting
This is the first "rogue warrior" book that I have read and I was instantly hooked.The principles that the author puts forward are simple and effective, driving home the overall messages very well.This book has helped me to think differently about what I do, where I work, and how I allow people to impact my day-to-day activities.In short, the book has pointed out that YOU are the only one who is in control of your career...that through proper training and preparation, you can be ready for anything...and that true leaders disregard the political ramifications and take decisive and definative stances - in spite of the trials that they will face. This is the good one.....
Even if you are not the leader of your team/group/posse, whatever, this is a great book to help you to BECOME that leader.This is a straightahead, no nonsense book which makes you look at yourself and where you want to be, and what you want to do and best of all, makes you think.It is not an answer book, that is for sure, so be ready to think fast.

Dick is not a businessman
Sorry, but I know Mr. Marcinko (on a casual basis) and I know many of his former TEAM warriors on a more professional basis.Dick is an EXCEPTIONAL conflict commander, but this skillset does not transfer to a business environment.Read more

History from newspapers
Buyers beware!!! This book is huge... Amazon should give its dimensions, but I am guessing more than a foot long and 3/4 foot wide.Great reading about history -- if you have strong arms and a sturdy table.

a great motivator for any IT person out there
After buying the book I was a little scaptic about this book keeping me intrested but rather than being too technical and 'professional' the book is more like a drama with alot of winners and losers.It was a greatinspiring experience-reading stories like the ones about bill gates,stevejobs and his body 'woz'.The book floats along the evolution of the computerindustry,the IBM empire,the Microsoft phenomenen throght the stories of thepeople who made it and those who couldn't stay in the top.A must read forevery person who has some computer background who wants to know how it allstarted and also for the not-yet computer fan who just wants a good read.

Mind-Expanding
This is one of the best -- and scariest -- business books I've ever read. Christensen clearly illustrates why many of the 'tried and true' formulas really don't work. His research is compelling and is presented clearly enough for non-technical readers. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

Counterintuitive, well-supported, and powerful
This text excels on several levels:It is very readable, and tells a story which is understandable and compelling even at a cursory pace.For the motivated reader, digging deeper, especially spending time on the introduction and each chapter's endnotes, there is a huge amount of data and insight into that data that is well-structured for assimilation.Finally, the theories presented, once understood, become both a lens for interpreting past and current market dynamics, and set the stage for deployable actions in a number of industries.

During fourth of july vacation, I had a chsance to see an old college friend, who is a vice president for a large computer hard drive firm... he was showing offf his new Toyota hybrid when we began talking about the market forces, which interfered with large companies responding to the emerging needs and changes in the marketplace.

Great book - plus a recommendation
This was a helpful book as I am striving to find a beneficial perspective on finances.It is motivating, filled with good advice, and helpful when you're looking for steps to take in your financial portfolio. I also found another book, more from a philosophical perspective, very enlightening as well - The Financial Pilgrimage, by Sean Mitchell. Together, both have given me just what I need to feel good about God, life, and money.

Get it, know it, breathe it, believe it
I'm not a big fan of those self-help books that litter today's bookshelves, but I wanted to get something that would help us with our finances, preferably something that wouldn't put me to sleep. Mr. Ramsey will keep you awake, especially if you get this in the audio book format. The guy runs his own radio show so you know he'll keep it interesting. His smart, witty, and humorous tone makes for a great listen.

A Book Worth Saving For
I first read this book in 1993. (I was out jogging one day and overheard two people discussing how it had changed their lives.I immediately bought it.) I especially like how it helps you to develop a healthy disregard for unsecured debt. Too often, we buy things on credit because we believe that we can't wait until we have the money. This book will help you to develop the proper mindset toward debt. With that essential foundation, you then address the problem of your specific debt. I especially appreciated his frequent reminder that you're not a bad person just because you owe money. I've recommended the book many times through the years.

My Debt Bible!
I bought this book at least 10 years ago, when I was a single mom and deeply in debt. It completely changed the way I thought about debt and financial freedom. I titled it my Debt Bible because 10 years later, I still refer to it when I need a reminder or some inspiration. It's not about deprivation, it's about living a good life without having to go into debt. This book is awesome. I've recommended it to all my friends.

Not argue as much as position
While I was expecting something along the lines of debate tactics, rebuttals, counterpoints etc. this is more of a book that deals with pre-positioning in an argument to get you where you need to be.
Great Book! Emphasizes the importance of Integrity!
I bought this book hoping to learn a tried and true method to win arguments. I found what I was looking for and so much more! This book helped me become a better person because it showed me how to be a good person. The whole world tries to tell you that "good people finish last". Mr. Spence, as a splendid foot soldier, tells us that he has found a fulfilling life in doing the right thing, in the face of oposition and in the full confidence that he would succeed. Lucky for us he did! Read this book and welcome yourself to your own future!

The sequel to The millionaire next door
If you read and enjoyed the Millionaire next door this book is a great follow up for more of how the real millionaires think. I is basically the same and the before mentioned book however in this book the author makes a successful attempt to get inside a millionaires head by studying their behavior.
I Couldn'tWake Up
Having read "The Millionaire Next Door," as well as most if not all of the classics in this category, I expected life-altering experiences with this book.

A latter day film noir protagonist on Wall Street
Reading this great book reminded me of the movie Night and the City. The central character Lou Pasciuto is very much in the mold of the famous noir protagonist in Night, "Harry Fabian." Always hustling, always scheming, but with a 21st century twist, and all true.

Goodfellas meets Boiler Room
If you can imagine a book written that blended these two movies together, bada-bing, there's your book. There's your review.

Interesting Subject and Approach
This book was recommended to me because I was impressed with Ackoff's "The Art of Problem Solving."Enduring all 300 pages of this poorly written, repetitious work is proof that just because the subject matter is interesting, any given coverage of it will not necessarily be so.The book does have some merit and a few original ideas.That's part of the reason it has endured.The other reason is that the author, being so prolific, has kept himself current.Last but not least, the field of "creativity in thought" has so few good, logical authors with descriptive talent.

A start for continous improvement
"Do not limit your mind, don't assume" could be a brief summary of the book. The author has made quite a good start, explanining how new ideas could be formed and how the best looking idea may not be the best to pick up. The book would be useful for people who have been in a stable environment, a place where improvements are seen as threats so you couldn't improve most of the things. The negative side was, that there were to many repeats of the same idea through out the chapter and the book. That was a bit boring. The "PO" word is a good idea, but doesn't need that much explanation. I would recommend it for starters in continuous improvement concept.

Why Why So Stupid?
I have read several of Edward de Bono's books in recent years and I enjoy his theories. Which is why I recently dished out a lot of monet for the Why So Stupid book that is supposedly his magnum opus and is available only by direct mail. And after reading it, I will report that most of what is there for a very high price is also in this book and in de Bono's Thinking Course, which can be had for around 4% of that cost -- if that isn't worth a 5-star rating, what is?Read more

Not an average Joe
I've only heard audio portions of this book so far and I've enjoyed it immensely. I'm a huge Yankee fan and I love the way Joe manages them - and George Steinbrenner for that matter; calm, clear, focused, patient. However, I just wanted to respond to Bill from NY, who said that Joe Torre can not write andthat the book wasn't very "inciteful". Good Advice
This book offers good advice for managers of most professions. It may be simplistic to say that the baseball industry strategies will apply to all areas, but one of the first things you learn IS that it will apply to most areas -- because it deals with one long-time commonality -- people. Joe Torre shows that his insight and respect for others really does work and that it is NOT just money.

If you own a business, you need to listen to this CD - Several times,
Period.

Empathy inLeadership and Management
More "sound advice" from the autor of "Sever Habits of Highly Effective People". Quite a few (at least semi) practical advices in this book - building on the priveate and public victories. I think Covey once more prooved his ability to put this into a leadership perspective. Althoug it may not be absolutely necessary to read The Sever Habits in advance, it undoubtedly would be an advantage .
Excellent, but redundant on many points
This follow up book to the SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE (Covey), repeats a lot of the same ideas in this title.However, it applies the ideas in a slightly different way and is a useful read who want to enforce the difficult to develop seven habits and apply them on an organizational level.

A book for everybody.
This book is pitched at managers who are either new to the position or managers who feel they might have people problems they need to resolve - in other words: everybody. A lot of the philosophy is common sense to me, and I say this to emphasize that I agree with it wholeheartedly.
It Just Takes A Second
The original One Minute Manager was the very first management book that I read.I am happy to read this sequel and see in detail the implementation of its principles in this short book by authors Kenneth Blanchard Ph.D. and Robert Lorber Ph. D. as they stress the importance of praising (as well as reprimanding) employees which often times gets lost in today's very busied, hurried, bottom-line scrutinizing Corporateculture.Remember to be successful managing employees we must all pay the pay the PRICE:(Pinpoint, Record, Involve, Coach and Evaluate.)

Decent Primer for Beginners
This is an excellent introduction to analyzing financial statements, at least for those who have never done so before or who have no background in business. It even is of benefit to seasoned financial people who don't necessarily spend a lot of time reviewing financial statements. make it easily

On being a Drucker completist.
It is difficult to know how much value it is possible to get from reading a book that examines future trends nearly 15 years after it was published. The earliest essay in this book was written in 1986. There is a nearly inevitable dated feel to this kind of selection that would kill the work entirely for lesser thinkers.
