1-0 out of 5 stars Advice for the fearful!
This book was terrible, maybe the worst book I have read on investing. It was so basic I felt like I was in pre-school learning how to tie my shoes. It's a book for whimps who are full of fear and are too scared to do anything with their live's. There is even a section warning you not to use drugs. Come on.....Don't waste your money..........

2-0 out of 5 stars Time is money. Save both and pass on this one.Really!!
First let me say that I bought the audio tape and not the book. The tape is 3 hours in length so I assume it highlights the most important points of the book. (if there were any).5-0 out of 5 stars Run, don't walk, to buy this book
HI.. I would say most people should run, not walk, to buy this book. It doesn't matter where you are starting from, everyone can benefit from this stuff, and there are a variety of ways to compile wealth that the authors talk about. I found it to be very inspiring and well worth the money. I would recommend it to all my friends, especially those who are befuddled by the markets, because it has simple straightforward advice. good luck to all the savers and investors among us! for socially conscious people, they also tell how to help society (as well as get wealthy.) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars great , helps a lot
This is a great tape set. I have used it for years. It helps me to "re-center" myself. In the hustle and bustle of life a short 15 minutes of meditations helps whole lot. As you practice the tape, you have to add your own goal. Couple this with the LAW OF ATTRACTION by Micheal Losier.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as DeJong's other work
I am a fan of DeJongs's and feel like his work has dramatically influenced my life. His first tape, The Silva Method, was better and had cleaner, more usable exercises.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the read!
Geoffrey Moore's latest book should be required reading for all executives in the age of the Internet. Rather than filling out a theoretically weak book with numerous examples, or building a detailed theory which cannot beapplied, Moore has produced a brilliant work of practical business theory.Drawing on and extending his work in Crossing the Chasm, Inside theTornado, and The Gorilla Game, Moore looks at various stages in thedevelopment of businesses, how to manage for shareholder value, how tocreate and sustain competitive advantage, and how companies with diversecultures can effectively overcome the innovator's dilemma. Any executivefeeling threatened by the Internet, or wishing to take full advantage ofdiscontinuous innovations, should read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strategies for tactical leaders
"Living on the Fault Line" is like a diorama of a new battlefield. Reading this book, like studying the scale model, should give the experienced leader new perspectives on which troops to deploy and wherethey should go. It is a tool to show the terrain, the high points andambush risks that armies face. This market is not lacking in people who canact, and this book shows them where to focus their efforts in a usable, timely and concentrated way. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Robert X. Cringely manages to capture the contradictions and everyday insanity of computer industry empire building, while at the same time chipping away sardonically at the PR campaigns that have built up some very common businesspeople into the household gods of geekdom. Despite some chuckles at the expense of all things nerdy, white, and male in the computer industry, Cringely somehow manages to balance the humor with a genuine appreciation of both the technical and strategic accomplishments of these industry luminaries. Whether you're a hard-boiled Silicon Valley marketing exec fishing for an IPO or just a plain old reader with an interest in business history and anecdotal storytelling, there's something to enjoy here. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cringely was there and part of the epic tale of Silicon Valley
He gets it -- from his first chapter when he says that constant change is the only norm in the PC business and the floppy disk days to Fry's Electronics and Bill Gates mom Mary-- some great insider information. Cringley is a former Stanford professor and foreign correspondent. Great to have on your shelf and look back to what was what back then. In his final chapters he says "surfing is the perfect metaphor for high technology business-- little did he know in 1993 how right he was and would be! Of course on the last page, he says no more phones or TV sets by the middle of this next decade -- like 2005 :))No more computers-- hmm what am I keyboarding on. He talks about the rise of multiple devices and of course we have those too...funny how most of this stuff doesn't replace the earlier stuff-- just more boxes and goodies to cart around or clutter the desk. But oh that productivity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
This is an interesting book. If you ever wanted to know about the companies that have ruled the computer world, just read this book, you'll learn about them in a pretty funny way. If you're an entrepreneur, you'll learn a lot from this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Book
Today, few inventors are turned on by tales about Edison or Tesla, but many are interested in how Microsoft's Bill Gates became a multi-billionaire (yes billions, not millions).

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved the book and enjoyed the CD
This is great book on investing and I highly recommend it.The CD is great to listen to in the car and gets all the points across.I suggest that you also get the book. It's way better than the Graham books - which are very dated - they give you the tools to buy stocks selling at below book value - not a lot of those around any more.Besides Buffett got over Graham years ago.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Complete Joke
This book tries to reverse-engineer Warren Buffett's investment strategy and does a horrible job of it. Like all of Mary Buffett's books, this is long on hype and short on credibility.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Analyzing the Communication Skills of the Opposite Sex
I feel that this book was very informational and useful with many instances in my life. It really gave me an insight to the reasons why people act how they do, and it made me comprehend my boyfriend and friends more. I have misunderstood them many times, and after reading parts of this book, I have realized what went wrong. 1-0 out of 5 stars Yakk...
First, it would be nice to explain, that this book is targeted to (a) women, (b) women suffering from the lack fo self-confidence, (c) womensuffering from the lack of self-confidence and comfortable with blaming menfor sexism on a working place. It's just too much time spent on sexesrelations instead of real communications problems. Of course, difference ofmale and female styles of communication is a problem, you have to keep inmind, but this is not the ONLY problem. Reading the review on a boook Iexpected advice on improving my communication skills, not to hear a bunchof regular feministic stream of accusations of the business world. It'sjust misleading, useless and very unpleasant. So if you want feministpropaganda, this book is for you, if you really want improve your skills,go somewhere else.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good explanation of male/female communication differences.
This is a useful, interesting, provocative description of differences between men's and women's speech behaviors.Tannen takes an essentially socio-cultural stance in explaining the reasons for these differences.Notonly does she present coherently her ideas, her speech is crisp andanimated; thus, it is a delight to listen to her. This audio is anexcellent introduction to Tannen's work on this subject.I ask studentsenrolled in my Gender and Communication course to listen to this editedtape in lieu of purchasing the book, as this proves to be an efficientalternative to reading the entire book. For instructors similarlyinclined, I recommend purchasing two or three copies to be placed onreserve in the university library. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Sales Solution!
This is the BIBLE for customer focused consultative selling!
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Get Lost in the Sales Cycle
It would be great if you could develop some new technique for walking into a large corporation and closing a major sale on the first visit, but it rarely, if ever, happens.Chances are, you're in for drawn-out process with lots of players. Most corporate sales professionals meander through this process hoping to "do what it takes" to close the sale.Miller, Heiman finally offer up a way of keeping score -- of knowing where you stand in the process and what you have to do to keep it moving in the right direction. By developing a standard nomenclature to discuss buy types and their relevant position in the sales process, Miller, Heiman allow you to keep track for yourself, but discuss it with your sales management. This is likely the most important book about the strategic side of selling. I can guarantee you this:read this book -- practice the technicques within, and you will never find out you lost a sale after the fact.

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive sales methodology
_Strategic Selling_ is a valuable book, especially for those of us who are not "salesmen" in the classic sense, but have to operate in the Complex Sales environment.Consultants and Client Relationship Managers will find it especially valuable. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best executive roadmaps for a business turnaround
This book represents a solid and actionable roadmap for building and rebuilding a successful business of any size -- whatever the situation or current performance of the business. You can expect to receive important insights that you as an executive can apply toward creating a business that sets clear goals and meets them -- building the right relaitonships with your team, establishing a vision, mission and objectives while executing with leadership and a pragmatic focus on detail. You should also take a look at the companion book - a later re-issue of this edition, re-titled Seize Tomorrow - Start Today ... which is a handy paperback version. Again, this is an executive-level book which many business leaders actually HAVE used to turn businesses around. No other business book offers as much insight, so intelligently packaged and articulated. THis is the essential executive handbook for business and individual renewal.

1-0 out of 5 stars Same of stuff - blah
You've heard this all before, 500 times. I think this book was written after they read other books on the same. Don't be fooled, this really doesn't work, as a matter of fact this is the type of mindless nonesense that actually holds up the work flow of companies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good enough to buy the book

5-0 out of 5 stars Great self-esteem booster
This is a great collection of tips and stories to help alter the way we think of ourselves. These tapes give my self-esteem a boost and make the world a better place. The formula of Experience + Response = Outcome is just one of the great ways this tape influences posative thinking. The only down side is that this product isn't sold as a CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jack Canfield is my motivational role model

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Self-Help Tapes
I first bought this set of tapes several years ago at an education seminar and it was a valuable investment.Jack Canfield is caring, understanding, knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. He comes across as a 'real' person who uses teaching examples from his own life and degrees of self-disclosure that help create a 'trust' atmosphere for the listener. He has a speaking manner that puts you at ease and makes you want to listen to everything he has to say.Self-esteem, self-confidence and relating to other people is who we are every day and he helps improve this with techniques for developing and strengthening our 'inner selves'.I've listened to these tapes every 6 months for the last 7 yrs. and I listen to them whenever I am going through a really stressful time. They are uplifting and healing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Chopra Books! The Core of it all.
Exceptional and brief book that hits the nail on the head with the main ideas and practices that can transform your life and help you to achieve what you want. I believe that Chopra initially did not like the word success for this book because it often registers for people as more materialistic than he means. This is a about life success in a grand and overarching way. Outstanding and HIGHLY Recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book from Deepak!
I have read most all of Deepak Chopra's books - this one has a different presentaton style and makes for an entertaining reading and learning experience! I think everyone else in their book reviews have nailed the importance of this book and what it is about - but for me it was one one of his best books! A great gift buy for someone you love!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not written with Emotional Intelligence
The author of this book was obviously not applying "emotional intelligence" principles when writing this book. The points were all there and really proved why emtional intelligence is important, but it was just not done in a good manner.I do not typically shy away from long books, but this one was impossible. It was assigned to me and about 30 other people in my organization (we were to discuss and present ideas found inside the book), and can I tell you that no one finished it because of repetitious and dreadful writing?Just know that to be successful, you HAVE to exhibit emotional intelligence and be a intuitive, kind and generally good person to work with. If you don't believe me, save yourself the time/energy and buy the Cliffs notes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tool of Necessity
A must read for trainers, trainees and people managers. Goleman's work provides a benchmark for training and development professionals. For everyone it provides a template for increasing one's self-awareness and operational effectiveness within for profit, non-profit and familyenvironments. Nothing fancy, just a plain old common sense appproach backed by documented research and experiences. As a mentor to a significant number of students and professionals, I have recommended this text without hesitation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotional + interpersonal skills = Success!
This book simply showed that success is not just dependent on cognitive abilitites but more importantly on emotional competence.

4-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Wisdom
These CD's arrived yesterday and I eagerly listened to the first 2 of the 4 disks. The concepts on these disks are timeless, and especially valuable today when the overwhelming narcissism of our culture/media sends the wrong message to our young people on what it takes to get ahead. His talk about "the boomerang" of self absorption is especially apt, as is the discussion about enthusiasm and gratitude.

While the classic comic strips included in this book (most dating from the early and mid-1990's) continue to be amusing, the rest of this book missed its target.Written as an over-the-top instructional guide for managers, it is takes itself so seriously that little of it remains amusing.Adams is clearly attempting to satirize bad management practices and abuses, but he might be trying too hard to be funny. While there are plenty of bad managers out there, I doubt that many of them are as intentionally bad as suggested here. This book was indeed a light read, and fans of the "Dilbert" comic strip should find familiar material here, but overall, "The Dilbert Principle" is a better book.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOL
As luck would have it, I was reading Dogbert's Top Secret Management Handbook when an old friend showed up at my door with a sad tale.Rich was an IT guy at a bank in Florida that had gone through five buy-outs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste Of Time
This is by far the worst business book I have read in recent years. It is hard to believe that Andy Grove actually thought that this material was worth putting into a book.As other reviews have said, this book at most should have been a short article in Business Week...but even then it would require some actual content to make it worth reading. The best part of the book is the quotes on the cover from Steve Jobs et al.It makes me wonder if they even read the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars save several valuable hours of your life- skip this book
Maybe I haven't read enough "management" books (though I do have an MBA), but if this is considered "great" for this genre- WOW. This entire book could have been summed up in a couple pages without losing any major points, but I guess you can't have a bestseller that way! One reviewer said it was too technical. Are you living in a cave? I found it condescendingly written- absurdly simple and dumbed down. Granted, it's over a decade old, but I doubt everyone was really that much stupider ten years ago.

4-0 out of 5 stars All Fear the Status Quo
Andy Grove has verbalized the mindset that we must all develop to survive in the 21st Century. While his idea of constantly looking over your shoulder has always been applicable, the speed of the Internet economyrequires that we do it much more frequently and penalizes us much morequickly if we do not.Read more

Editorial Review

How can you join the ranks of America's wealthy (defined as people whose net worth is over one million dollars)? It's easy, say doctors Stanley and Danko, who have spent the last 20 years interviewing members of this elite club: you just have to follow seven simple rules. The first rule is, always live well below your means. The last rule is, choose your occupation wisely. You'll have to buy the book to find out the other five. It's only fair. The authors' conclusions are commonsensical. But, as they point out, their prescription often flies in the face of what we think wealthy people should do. There are no pop stars or athletes in this book, but plenty of wall-board manufacturers--particularly ones who take cheap, infrequent vacations! Stanley and Danko mercilessly show how wealth takes sacrifice, discipline, and hard work, qualities that are positively discouraged by our high-consumption society. "You aren't what you drive," admonish the authors. Somewhere, Benjamin Franklin is smiling. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Wow- I had no idea!
I guess that when you think of millionaires, you think of flashy people with nice cars and a lot of bling, but I had no Idea that there were so many BORING millionaires!I guess it's not really pboring to have over a million dollars, but I want to be able to enjoy my monye.THeat's the purpose of this book , though- to show that you have to be boring and then you can get to be a millionaire with all the money you didn't spend on fun stuff!I almost fell asleep a couple times reading this, but when I stayed awake it was really eye-opening.I won't scoff at those people who don't have "big hats" but have a lot of cattle anymore.

3-0 out of 5 stars Common Sense
Nothing really groundbreaking here.Mostly common sense. You can visit a few websites and virtually get the same info presented in this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unrealistic, repetitive, couldn't finish
This book was interesting at first. It shatters what most of us think the typical millionaire looks and acts like, but that only takes a chapter. After that, it just keeps repeating itself over and over."Who do you think bought the $1000 watch and who bought the lower priced watch?"Yeah, yeah, I get it; the millionaire has a lower priced watch than the overspending, no real wealth guy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Praise
It is a very good book , but it has too much praise about Warren Buffet too much introduction stuff and Warren Buffet's praises

3-0 out of 5 stars Agood basic introduction to Warren Buffett Investing
Buy this book if you are looking for a very basic book to start learning Warren Buffett's investing style. You will only get information on the companies he has purchased and their performance and a very basic explanation on why Mr. Buffett thought they were such great values when he bought them. There is no technical explanation here on how to figure book value or how to find your own value stocks. It reads like "The history of Warren Buffett" not "How to invest like Warren Buffett".
