3-0 out of 5 stars good book, but needs further improvement
It is very clear and accurate in explaining the rules. It is not vey clear in certain chapters like Alternative Minimum Tax, or quantifying, even approximately, who can pass the trading activity test.5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Learning About the Taxation of Investments
5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal for those new to investment portfolio management
Kaye Thomas' Capital Gains, Minimal Taxes: The Essential Guide For Investors And Traders is a "plain language" guide to stocks, mutual funds, options, and tax strategies for maximizing returns and minimizing tax liabilities. Complete, authoritative, practical, "user friendly", this guide is ideal for those new to investment portfolio management and will prove both practical and invaluable in creating a personal financial investment plan with allied strategies. Indeed, Capital Gains, Minimal Taxes has much of value to offer even experienced investors with respect to tax rules for short sales, stock options, and "straddles". Highly recommended reading for sensible small investor strategic financial and investment planning. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't get this book, unless you already understand an IRA!
Sure, I'll concede... he has put some excellent work into the flow chartsin the book. They are so simple that my cat could figure out which IRA isbest for her.Still, neither I nor patches still have a clue as to whatrules govern what we are allowed to do with our money in our IRAs.PerhapsI came to the book expecting too much, but I would think the devotion of achapter on at least explaining IRA basics was meritted.4-0 out of 5 stars Great tables to evaluate whether Roth or Traditional is best
I bought this book to help me prepare for seminars I presented on the Roth IRA.It gave a clear understanding of the rules for Roth contributions, but its greatest strength was the tables that let one compare the futurebenefits of Roth/Traditional IRA based on current and future tax brackets, rates of return,as well as present age.Another feature was dealing withthe future value of what Gary calls "Opportunity Costs" whenconsidering a conversion from traditional IRAs to Roth Conversion. Opportunity costs is the future value of the money that needs to be paid tothe government when the IRA is converted.Again, current and future taxbrackets, age, and rates of return are clearly presented.A must foranyone who really wants to get a grasp on the numbers and not just skimalong the surface.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vey informative and helpful

5-0 out of 5 stars The only book you'll need to manage rental real estate
This book explains all facets of managing rental dwellings or farmland and the tax implications that go along with it.The book is easy to read, easy to index, and includes lots of good examples of things like depreciation schedules or tax return schedules. If you are thinking about buying rental real estate, or already own rental real estate, this book will easily pay for itself with all of the legal tips it provides on minimizing your tax bill. It's a very handy reference for those just starting out with rental properties. Some of the example spreadsheets look a little dated, but are easy to replicate on modern spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Excel for example).

5-0 out of 5 stars Clear and Useful Advice
I purchased this book several years ago after I purchased a 10-unit apartment building which I subsequently managed myself.I also do my own taxes.I found the book to be in invaluable resource guide. The ONLY book of it's kind (I probably have 20 on my shelf).Holmes shares his experience with IRS audits of property owners. He knows the tax code inside and out and the best ways a property owner can utilize it to their advantage (legally and above board, no slick marketing, just examples of what works).Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This excellent offshore book has been updated.
An excellent book on the subject. Anthony has finally updated this book and called it International Tax Havens. Both it and Tax Havens cover the major tax havens but the best part is his discussion of offshore strategies and a number of different uses of offshore structures.

5-0 out of 5 stars From an expert in the field of offshore investments...
Ginsberg is well known for his knowledge on the subject. As someone who has read a number on offshore matters, I found the book interesting and informative, not designed to sell his services like so many books on the subject. I only wish he would write one more up-to-date. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy-To-Understand Language
Many tax books are written over the average American's heads. But that is not the cause with 101 Tax Saving Ideas. The author go to great lengths to make sure each tip is easy to understand and beneficial. Each tip is geared towards helping middle-class families, small home businesses, and retired folks save money on their year-end taxes. I especially liked the examples to better explain the tips.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can you use the internet?
If you can use the internet, you do not need this book. There are no "big secrets" or earth-shaking revelations here. The information presented in this book is free to anyone who can do an internet search on whatever subject they are interested in.The only thing I learned from this book is how to compile readily available information and sell it for a profit.SAVE YOUR MONEY!

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful book
All of those useful little tidbits of information people always end up learning the hard way are in this book. There is almost too much useful consumer information in here.I am sure this book will save me a huge amount of trouble later in life.If you've ever wanted a book that could instill years of knowledge and experience to help you out with all sorts of monetary concerns, this is the book for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dishonest Title
A high priced disappointment. That sums it up for me.If the title had been The Investor's Tax Survival Guide, it would have been worth a rating of three to four. However, as a trader, I found myself wading through pageafter page of irrelevant information.I found much better information freeon the internet specifically aimed at traders.

2-0 out of 5 stars Misleading title
Unfortunately, the title of this book has little to do with its content. If you're looking for nitty gritty details on tax strategies for active stock traders, you'll be disappointed to find only one chapter that comesclose. 3-0 out of 5 stars Too One Track and aggressive in perspective
This book gives a unique point of view so, it does not duplicate what you can get in other tax books. It advocates you try to qualify for 'Trader Status', and there are several Supreme Court tax cases concerning thisdifficult to qualify status. This status means that your TRADE as aserious business, hold postions for generally less than a month. All yourexpenses become fully deductable on Schedule C, HOWEVER you lose CapitalGain treatment AND must pay Social Security and Medicare taxes on your SelfEmployment income but you can set up a pension plan and/or SEP IRA.Ithink there is too great a danger of a nasty IRS audit, and not enoughtaxes saved.A difficult route for a Futures Trader, nearly impossible fora Stock trader except for some SOES traders. ...
