5-0 out of 5 stars Highly RecommendedLifetime Guide on How to Prepare, Preserve and Protect Your Estate Matters
Patti Spencer, Esquire, is widely recognized as an authority on estate planning matters. She has written a weekly column in the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal, "Taxing Matters" since 1999.Her book, "YOUR ESTATE MATTERS" grew out of those weekly columns.Patti is known for her "down to earth" conversational style and for using humor in presenting what most times is a dry and dull subject.Patti presents very valuable information and advice which will enable the reader to greatly incerease their knowledge on the subject. The book is easy to read and helps debunk many myths about estate planning, including the one about:if you don't have a will, the state gets everything."This book is the one resource I have found that provides practical and understandable advice and reasonings regarding estate matters.Patti has really hit a home run with this book.It is a must read for anyone, from an individual, a retiree, a business person or anyone who is getting prepared to address their estate matters. In 35 years of professional life, this is one of those valuable resources that has the potential to have a profound impact on changing the way people think about the subject of estate planning.I highly recommennd this book and will be sure that my business clients, especially those with family owned businesses, get this book and read it cover to cover. It should become a part of every business owner's business survival kit and everyone's personal library.
5-0 out of 5 stars good organization of estate planning topics
The columns are interesting in themselves, but are much more searchable with an index and grouping by subject, starting from planning early in life, then progressing through changing needds at marraige, parenthood, retirment, and estate settlement. This is a great guide for learning about transfer of wealth and how the government is a party to it.The quotations at the beginning of some topics are a nice opeing statement to get you thinking philosophically about a subject, or just to give you a chuckle while reading an otherwise dry subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful and Humorous
I was thrilled to find that someone finally wrote a resouce book that I can understand that answers my financial and estate planning questions! The author's sense of humor actually turned dull topics into fun reading.I recommend this book for anyone planning to see an attorney for a will or estate settlement. You'll be well prepared. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Especially the Advice on Dealing with the IRS
Easy-to-read, well organized, and thoroughly helpful. I recommend "Taxes 2005 for Dummies" to people who want to prepare their own taxes, either by hand or by computer. Excellent advice and strategies for dealing with the IRS.
5-0 out of 5 stars Readable and Helpful
I purchased this book because I was using TaxCut Standard, which is not very helpful at times, and I got stuck on a particular form. This book helped me to understand the Individual 1040, using language that is more clear and personable than the official IRS instructions. 4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, but sometimes vague
I like this book a lot, because it gave me great ideas about how to structure my finances to take advantage of the tax deductions the government provides.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for every real estate investor
This Third Edition is a great book for all real estate investors, whether yoa are an agent or not.In fact I think that is more valuable for the knowledgeable investor. The author is a CPA and real estate broker, who has written a marvelous book relating the Federal Tax code to real estate applications. There are chapters on Personal Residence Exclusion of $250,000/$500,000, Capital Gains, and Installment Sales.you will find detail in this book that is not present in any other tax book for real estate investors.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent details
This book is not meant to be read cover-to-cover.It would take a very patient and determined reader to go through every example and exception and tax detail. However, it is in these details that this book stands out.The language used is straightforward, the examples are well thought-out and realistic.Use the book more like a reference - go directly to the chapter related to your intended transaction; the chapters are quite self-contained.5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and Understandable Tax Advice About Real Estate
This 3rd edition of Vern Hoven's book is an excellent reference for realestate brokers and agents.I have given it as a Christmas present to allmy agents.I have also alerted a client to a potential tax problem his CPAoverlooked, but I recognized as a result of reading this book.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars outdated information
This edition date from 1995!! It is becoming seriously outdated, for instance page 28 "federal state treatment of one-member LLCs remains uncertain", this is not true anymore, a quick search on the IRS website will give you the answer (you can elect to be treated as sole proprietorship or as corporation). And since this book was published, Vermont and Massachussets have enected LLC laws. Don't buy outdated information, especially in the legal field.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Rip Off
You can get more more accurate information from your secretary of state for free. The author has taken generalized information from each state, compiled it into a book, and given it a title. The author is a lawyer.Think about it.What do you think you will get from a lawyer for 15 bucks? Not much! I returned the book for a refund.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best on the subject
I checked out about 10 books on the subject of creating an LLC from my local library and this is one of (if not the) best.Read more

Before you read Wade Cook's book, be sure to read about his bankruptcy in 2004. Just enter his name on Google and you will see more news articles about it than you could find time to read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Book by a brilliant businessman
I found a wealth of information in this book. Some, needs to be updated but at least 98% of the book is current and accurate for 2004. I no longer brag about how much I am worth nor am I going to let anyone know where they can find out how much I am worth! Too many reptiles out there looking for easy money. Think I am kidding? Just move up in the financial world and you automatically become a target.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for a beginner
I own a company and needed to learn about the basics of tax reduction.I found this book to be useful in just the basics.Because it concentrated on many topics, I believe it wasn't able to focus on many items that would have been useful to me.However, it was well written and easy to read, and I give it five stars because it gave me many broad questions to ask my tax consultant.

3-0 out of 5 stars Less than what I expected
I thought that this book would have tons of lists of tips and give lots of legal, but perhaps edgey advice, but it fell short.I didn't find it easy to read through, I didn't find lots of lists and tips, I like books like this to make it easier.3-0 out of 5 stars Where are the S-Corps?
I found this book a bit loose, and am looking for a more thorough description of financial management practices unique to an S-Corp.I have been looking for a definitive description of S-Corp accounting practices and concrete tax saving advice. My S-Corp. started last April, from a 3-month old sole proprietorship with all the requisite Federal and State designations. If anyone knows of a book particular to S-Corps, it would be much appreciated. In conclusion, I have found this book helpful, yet not as specific or thorough as I had hoped. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Buy another book!
This book was ok, however, I was hoping more detail and less basic information. It provides good info for a new real estate player, but seasoned players who want more information on what and how can do better by contacting their CPA. I was hoping to get more and in the end I found -0- ideas that I was not aware off. Rename the book-real estate tax relief for newbies! Seasoned players do not BUY!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waist your money - Go to the Library
There is nothing special about this book that makes it worth so much more than other similar books that cost a lot less.
