5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!
Authors Joel Stern and John Shiely advocate a total revolution in the way companies are valued and measured. They make a convincing case for using EVA ("Economic Value Added") as the primary measure of corporate performance. The authors argue that the SEC's yardstick for corporate reporting, the "Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures" (GAAP), was designed to protect lenders by depicting a company's liquidation value. As such, GAAP provides an overly conservative and only marginally accurate picture of financial health. EVA principles - at least according to the consultants who advise companies on using them - evaluate intangible assets more realistically and correspond more closely to stock market performance. We from getAbstract recommend this book to executives who seek improved corporate financial and market performance, and to investors interested in understanding how value is created and maintained.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aligning Shareholder and Manager Interests
One of the most difficult questions to answer is what a company's worth is.Two developments in American Capitalism have contributed to the question's complexity.First, shareholders have divorced themselves from the corporations operation, leaving the task to professional managers.3-0 out of 5 stars EVA from a Senior Management Perspective
EVA Challenge was OK. It is more geared towards senior managers who are thinking about EVA as a model for their companies. In that regard, this books does a fine job.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars prompt delivery
It is important to receive email from seller to confirm the transaction, which he/she did. Prompt delivery. Book arrived in good condition as stated.

1-0 out of 5 stars Far too general to be of value
Read this one a year ago and found it to be very non specific in the elements necessary to gain compliance. Now after three SOX engagements and having to deal with the intricacies of 404, this book stands as a poor introduction to the enormity of the task to follow.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Information value
I am writing a paper about SOA and read different books about it. In comparison to other books the Manager's Guide by Scott Green gives poor information about the SOA itself and talks about risks and controls most of the companies have realized centuries ago. In addition there are absurd comparisons to foreign laws, which maintain uselessness (for example a german law). I guess Scott Green has never been to Germany and doesn't know anything about Corporate Governance in Europe. I have traveled through Europe and found much better quality in leadership there and articles of most famous business magazins affirm my opinion.

Debra knows and applies TOC as well as anyone including Goldratt. This book is still a key part to understanding TOC.

This is a grate book that explains how measurment indicators might confuse management, and make mistakes that really happen in buissness. In states several measurment indicators based on TOC that help in understanding what should be done in the company.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Business at a Glance
This is an excellent book that teaches you to chart: where you would like to go on your business journey; where you are; and what you need to do to adjust your journey towards your profit goals.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the Basics
This is an excellent book for those learning to keep books, or needing to brush up on their bookeeping skills. It is very detailed, and simplified. I found it easy to follow and understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction
This book is a very good introduction to bookkeeping. If you majored in finance and are an erolled agent with the IRS, you probably won't need this book. People with a much more limited knowledge of bookkeeping will benefit greatly. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good on theory
the book is good in price theory, but it needs material about practical cases of how to price porfessional projects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ron Baker shows us how to price on purpose and with purpose.
This is essential reading for any professional service provider.
5-0 out of 5 stars you are what you charge.
Pricing on Purpose by Ron Baker is, quite simply, one of the best books on pricing on the market. It revolves mainly around the subjective theory of value as opposed to the theory of cost-plus pricing.Without encroaching on Baker's territory by going into too much detail (a task I fear I would fail horribly at anyway), the subjective theory of value states that price determines costs, and that costs do not determine price. The fact that this simple statement flies in the face of many classical economic theories and in the face of many companies' pricing strategies is well understood by Baker at the onset. As such, almost the first half of the book is devoted to laying the foundation for both value theories historically as well as on a practical level. The summation of this course of discovery, one which Baker himself had to learn the hard way while working as a CPA, is that cost-plus pricing does not optimize profits. The subjective theory of value, on the other hand, enables companies to "price on purpose," or put the customer at the front end of the value chain. The subjective value chain, as I call it, looks like this:

3-0 out of 5 stars Valuation Approach Overview
This book provides a good overview of how to value a private company in a merger or acquisition. It provides a solid guide on how to do a comprehensive private business valuation but glosses over the details within the various valuation methods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical, accurate, hands-on book
I'm working on acquisitions of small to medium sized private companies. I found this book to be very practical in going through not just the valuation math, but also the considerations. The book gives a great overview of the whole process, with ideas of how to get more precise with things like Monte Carlo and Real options. On the core pieces, there is a careful step through of multiperiod DCF including terminal value which is very helpful. Also there is a lot of talk about discount rates which I found very helpful.5-0 out of 5 stars "How-To" Apply Solid Valuation Theory

3-0 out of 5 stars Where is the rest?
So far I have found two books dedicated to the topic of earned value:this book by Fleming and Koppelman and another book entitled `Using Earned Value' by Alan Webb.Note that I am not listing the earned value `Cliff notes' entitled `Project Management: The Commonsense Approach" by the Lamberts, which will not add to your understanding of earned value management or analysis, and serves, at best, as a memory jogger on the basic concepts.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on Earned Value!
The reader that is familiar with Project Management Institute books will find it extremely useful and connected to real life. Presents Earned Value definition and how is possible to organize your projects based on Earned Value principles. If you're interested to have results oriented projects, or if you're interested in project performance, or project monitoring, this book is really helpful. I highly reccomend you to read and use it. If you like "not so academic" books, you might find it a little bit too condensed, and probably you'll need to search for something else. Microsoft Projects offers very good definitions of Earned Value, Cost Performance Index and Schedule Performance Index that you might learn as first steps.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just Enough
Earned Value Project Management provides project managers with "just enough" to understand and begin using earned value analysis on projects.Koppelman and Fleming have distilled a complex and often intimidating subject and have made it immediately applicable to projects in any industry.I use this book to explain EVM concepts to my students and find it an invaluable tool in my own work as a project manager. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Enterprise Dashboards: Design and Best Practices for IT
I thought it was ok at best. Maybe I just know more than I thought :) But I didn't really get a lot out of this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Dashboard Implementation Primer
This is a book aimed at the experienced business intelligence developer or the C level executive. It provides a sound methodological framework for using enterprise dashboards as a fundamental performance management tool. This is a 'must read' for anyone contemplating dashboard deployment in their organization.

3-0 out of 5 stars This is a Draft... for the next edition.
I guess this is the first book by Shadan Malik. It looks like a manual written for internal use by a company. It is a "methodology" to develop dashboards, with several paragraphs where the author presents rules that he uses in that activity, like the way he estimates project efforts, lists of items to check for and so on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Research book with enormous coverage
Scope of this book is enormous. It is like an encyclopedia - which is why I got the PDF version; cannot imagine carrying it around. It is not like a college book on Internal Audit, where for example, they take you through the business cycles (e.g., revenue cycle), but that be gotten elsewhere. The coverage is excellent on both the Financial and IT side for SOX - and for internal audit departments not following SOX.
