Interesting Subject... Boring Book
The subject of this book is quite interesting and the knowledgable authors add many insights into the field of Mergers and Aquisitions.However, the book is poorly written and designed.Simply opening the book will show colorless pages and bland figures that perfectly reflect the tone and content within.There is also a surprising number of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors (something I should not expect if I'm paying over $100 for a book).

Solid text to introduce this topic - readable and helpful
The fourth edition came out in 2003 and I am not familiar with earlier editions.In my view, this is a very good text.In its nearly 700 pages, it provides a solid and comprehensive overview of this interesting and important topic.Obviously, no textbook can be both a survey of the topic and provide complete coverage of every topic.This book goes deep enough that students being introduced to this topic will find plenty to work on and get enough information to develop a feel for all that is involved in changing corporate control and ownership structure for any number of reasons.
I expected more
Considering the reputation of the primary author, I found the book to be ponderous to read and seemingly focused more on what the authors wanted to discuss than what might be really useful to students and those practicing M&A.The authors should have sought a more appropriate balance between theory and practice. This tome is weighted in favor of theory. It seems to spend more time addressing societal issues and issues of government policy than addressing the mechanics of how to plan for and implement transactions. In fact, only the last few pages of the book deal superficially with an approach to doing M&A.Read more

Order delays
The book never showed up. I needed to order it 2nd time and cancel 1st order. It took me almost a month before I got it.

This is an excellent book for those who want to delve into finance. It is equivalent to 2nd year material. Finance, most often offered in 3rd year here in Canada, requires knowledge of statistics (i.e. stats, econometrics...etc Intermediate level; 2nd year) when reviewing certain budgeting options; you won't need this for the book. Don't be dismaid, your not missing key information by using this 2nd year stuff (you get all of the math too at an easier to comprehend level).Read more

Good Intro to Financial Accounting but many Drawbacks
The book "Financial Accounting" gives a very good overview of the technique of financial accounting, but falls short on the analysis port.
Worst textbook I've used..
This textbook is really bad. Not very informative at all comparing it to other financial accounting books. It gives very broad descriptions and definitions that make it feel more like a grammar school book than a college-level. I was very unhappy that my professor assigned my class with this book. If you do not need to buy it, please don't, it's horrible.

A worthless text book...
I purchased this book because its the prescribe text book. The treatment of the content is average. What annoys me is there are little or no answers to the exercises. I later learnt that Prentice Hall supplies the solution manual to the instructors, but they dont make it available to students....huh??Read more

Most confusing, wordy textbook I have ever used
I am in a graduate program and this is the first time in 16 years of education that I have ever come across such a poorly written textbook! As a previous rater stated, "The presentation of the content assumes that the reader has some knowledge of this content area and at times leaves him/her confused as to what was discussed, making it difficult to understand. Examples that are used are often incomplete and do not provide a complete picture of how statements are generated." I second his sentiment, "Too bad I could not give it zero stars." I would love to contact these individuals and their publisher and recommend they never write again. I need a book I can use again and again when my class is finished, not one I would sooner burn.

An excellent guide to technical analysis
For anyone interested in a technical rather than fundamental approach to trading (like we are), this book has to be considered the definitive text.Although oriented around futures trading, all the information presented is equally relevant to any instrument type with a little thought and adaptation.
A great reference
I found other books on TA to be more useful for reading straight through and overcoming the learning curve on TA (e.g. Technical Analysis Explained, Martin Pring *****).

Great deal, but the edition it was listed under was the worng one. I thought I was getting the right edition, but it was an older one. It still works though.

Toolkit That More Than Pays for Itself
One of the unintended consequences of subscribing to a Sarbanes-Oxley Listserv is seeing how many auditors, and companies, are struggling with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. There has been a lot of uncertainty for auditors, and companies, as what is required and how to go about setting up an effective audit plan and making compliancerepeatable, sustainable reality. I have seen more calls of help for toolsets in this Listserv than I wish there were, but that has been the reality. However, there is now an outstanding resource to help external, internal auditors, and companies get their acts together by streamlining the 404 compliance process.

Hands on and rigorous
A very well written book on Risk Budgeting from a modern perspective. VAR methodologies, stress testing and working examples are very well written and a must for anyone wanting to either get into the risk measurement/ management field or an advanced practitioner in the field. I would highly recommend this book for someone wanting to get the both the theoritical and hands on practical approach to risk measurement of equity and fixed income portfolios.

Still great, after all these years
This book was published over six years ago, so some potential buyers might be worried about whether it has exceeded its shelf life.
Good explained yield curve fitting
List different way of yield curve fitting method, and good explain why B-spline
Could have been very good. A new edition could earn 5 stars.
While very ambitious and containing some very good material, I think there are too many errors, typos, and gaps in this book. For example, the derivation of equation (3.20) on page 43, a not insignificant result on swap rates, is embarrasingly wrong. They make 2 fundamental errors in equations (3.15) and (3.16) and appear fortunate to arrive at (3.20) which is correct. These errors are not mere typos. Their examples related to the concept of a filtration on top of page 58 appear to be wrong. Elsewhere in the book notation is often used inconsistently and without adequate definition. There are also gaps. For example, when discussing volatility structures in Section 16.1, they use equation (16.6) (which is correct) in a number of examples, but I could not find where they actually derived that equation. (It should have been in the HJM chapter) but was not there.

Not difficult but detailed.
This is a very advanced begining accounting text used by Harvard University in its accounting courses. It combines both Financial and Management Accounting and it is extremely detailed. Their are no solutions in the tests for their very difficult problems and I have not found a study guide to accompany it thus far. Do not buy it if you are not familiar with accounting. This is a textbook.

Good High Level Overview
I would recommend this text for higher level accounting/financial analysis courses.There are many other books out there to dive into the exact nature of making journal entries etc. so don't think of this as an excellent beginner to intermediate stlye text.

The Ultimate Accounting References
As a Comptroller, I really need a book that covered a major accounting best practice including its related regulation with the IRS, GAAP and SEC. And this books give me more then I need.

Pretty good book
Decent book. It hits the high spots on a lot of issues, but does not go into any great detail. I would be careful about relying on it too much because of the constantly changing accounting and tax laws.
