3-0 out of 5 stars The Vol. 2 is not as good as Vol. 1
I received the book recently.Compared with its Vol. 1, this book is not as good.I've just gone over Chapters 14 and 15.The examples are not as clearly presented as the ones in Vol. 1.I have to say this book is not up to my expectations, but the book, of course, can still help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have to accompany the textbook
The title, Survival Guide, is exactly as it means. This workbook, that accompanies `Intermediate Accounting' by Donald Kieso, is necessary to survive and understand intermediate accounting! The key is it gives you many more examples and probable situations to solve than the textbook could handle. I would not have done as well as I did in class without it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Problem-Solving Survival Guide: Int Act. Vol. 2 Ch 15-24
Completing the workbook items really helps reinforce concepts and offers great practice for tests. The book is not perfect. There's an occasional typo, and I wish there was more space to write in the workbook, and I was expecting it to cost a bit less, but in my opinion the book is very worthwhile to use. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A guide to life in an ad agency
Luke Sullivan is a veteran copywriter who provides concrete advice on almost everything related to work in the advertising industry. Though much of the book revolves around his specialty, copywriting, Sullivan offers lots of practical advice on a range of topics like getting into advertising, the realities of working at an agency, developing TV and radio ads and dealing with clients.
5-0 out of 5 stars a creative writing students holy bible.
I'm a senior at FSU, and I read this in order to prepare myself for the creative side of advertising/ portfolio/grad school. It was on the recommended reading for more then one of the top ad schools. Originally, I found it thru the VCU website. I have to say, that as a creative writing student, I barely get any kind of advice on the advertising world. This book, was phenomenal for several reasons. First and foremost,I learned what I consider to be a great deal. Secondly, and most importantly, I laughed the entire time. Luke Sullivan is a fantastic writer, whom I feel lucky to have stumbled upon his book. I believe anyone can benefit from this easy read. It has helped give me a a great overview. On that note, I was wondering if there was a way to contact him? I'd love to pick his brain :).

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have to learn accounting, try this book.
I needed a crash-course in accounting prior to starting my MBA.This book gave me what I needed to know so that I wasn't completely clueless on my first day of class. It was also a valuable reference tool throughout school, and a great way to prepare for final exams.5-0 out of 5 stars Essentials of Accounting - My Review
Having recieved and MBA a few years ago. This workbook was very helpful as a refresher on the key concepts with some very interesting and compeling leads for further study. One should have a some prior knowledge of basic accounting concepts, if not some of the topics may be overwhelming. The workbook reviews topics which can be very helpful to individuals who may be considering P&L responsibilities. The workbook clearly and concisely explains the relationship between the essential financial statements. The book makes the field of Accounting more interesting than my previous opinions. I would definitely recommend this book considering the conditions mentioned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Accounting Tutorial
This guide is an excellent teaching medium.Instead of reading page after page of text, the author engages the reader in answering questions and conducting drills to apply the material.Accounting is one of the subjects that you can learn more about each time you cycle through the material.I'd had an accounting course as part of my MBA program, and have read a couple of traditional accounting textbooks and this book really helped me understand how the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows are interrelated. This is a good book for busy professionals that don't have time to take an accounting course. I spent two hours on each chapter, for a total of 22 hours. The book is expensive, but worth it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I read a number of books in corporate finance and investments; thisbook is one of the best. It is more comprehensive than most other corporate finance books. It explains the concepts of finance in a rigorous, but very intuitive way. The explainations are much better than other books I have read. This book will definitely give the reader a solid background in the subject.
3-0 out of 5 stars Breadth, not depth
My take on this text is a little different. I used it in my undergrad intro to corporate finance class, but I didn't find the book too difficult. In fact, I found it too easy. The examples given are all extremely simple and the practice problems are too easy to be good practice for exams. My professor's lecture notes were a far better overview of corporate finance. I think the book is good for looking up a term you've never heard of before, but it skims over everything so you'll never really master the material.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm slow but it's finally starting to sink in.
I read (books), listened(CDs) and watched(DVD)through the actual program of FPU and didn't follow any of it. I listened carefully but all my bad habits were ingrained inside my behavior. It did cause me to watch my spending habits a lot more carefully and that in-itelf has made me a believer. I was never in debt but I knew that if I didn't change my ways I'd soon be in financial trouble.
5-0 out of 5 stars For rich and poor
Whether you are rich or poor, you have to read this and apply it to your life. After reading this book, you will have a different outlook on every penny in your pocket. The book is so easy to understand and the "Grandma style" of saving money still works today no matter how much money you make! I recommend this book for everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Personal Finances 101

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide for any Controller
ANy Controller will benefit from this well written, very comprehensive guide.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth that much !
I am disappointed about this book. The book is basically written for students who know little about the business/accounting functions. I found the contents are not deep enough, at least not for veterans oraccountants. Therefore, if you want a thorough knowledge of thecontrollership, this is not the one you should read. Try others.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very shallow
You can google in 10 minutes more relevant information than this book is able to provide. It's OK if you need to pick up some terminology and get a rough idea of what it all means before an interview. Totally useless if you need it for work.

2-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, lack in depth and poor organization
For a starter, this book does offer a broad spectrum of subjects, volatility/variance measurement, PCAs, Factor Models, Time Series analysis, high frequency data modeling, etc, at the expense of rigor and depth.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
If you are looking for detailed rigorous mathematical development then look elsewhere, that is not the reason to purchase this book.It is targeted towards application and there it excels.I have not seen any other book on this topic that so effectively presents a level-headed applied approach that keeps the basic assumptions of the models firmly in sight.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Gibson's Asset Allocation
Among the many books on this subject, this is one of the best. Unlike most of the other authors, Gibson does not limit himself to list the different asset classes and then provide recommended allocations. He goes one step further and describes in very practical terms the different issues that one faces when developing a portfolio and how to resolve them. In my view, Gibson ranks next to Bernstein and Malkiel. A good buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Asset allocation practically eliminates all risk while increasing returns.
This book informs the current political struggle to reform the Social Security program. In the case of a foreign invasion or some other calamity, it's true that one's private investments would be insecure, but so would one's "investments" in government bonds, so such cases are irrelevant.
4-0 out of 5 stars Timeless advice written for the informed
Mr. Gibson hits the nail on the head with Asset Allocation, balancing financial risk. The book is well written and the advice is timeless.I especially like the way he walks through the examples of multiple asset class investing using at first blinded and then un-blinded examples. It is very eye opening. His emphasis on frame-of-reference risk is right on the money.I recommend the book highly.

4-0 out of 5 stars sophisticated maths
Neftci takes us on a mathematically sophisticated tour of financial derivatives. The treatment is on a level akin to a senior-level undergrad text on physics or engineering. Indeed, to a reader who might come from that background, there will be a lot of similarities and familiar ideas.
5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable Introduction to Serious Math, Serious Finance, and Real-World Applications
Neftci's book is easily grouped into a large number of texts that provide graduate level (considerable more rigorous than the MBA version) introductions to mathematical finance. Some are written for MBA with want to be exposed to as little math as possible without short changing the financial and valuation aspects and with considerable attention to a broad range of financial products and applications (Hull's classic comes to mind).Others are extremely implementation driven and are more a hybrid of finance and computer programming (Duffy, London, Wilmont).Still others are math books that speak above the heads of almost all practitioners and cover the finance topics poorly (or not at all).
3-0 out of 5 stars Not a useful book
The author tried to circumvent the difficulty associated with the math behind derivative pricing by explaining the sujbect in a simple way that requires the minimum knowledge of math. Unfortunately it was overdone in this respect and therefore led to non-straightforward overelaboration that made simple things even more complicated. There are both typo and non-typo errors in the book, whick could make a fairly long erratum. For example, on p.281, Eq.(28) missed the last term from the previous equation. As mentioned by other readers, the notations were used inconsistently in this book. Again on p.281, the volatility sigma was switched to the one mupltiplied by the asset price without giving a notice. The subscript t was abused for both partial derivative with respect to time t and the function depending on t. English doesn't seem to be the author's first language. One of evidences of this is on p.336, in the second paragraph after Eq.(112), where "the value in current dollars" obviously should be "the current value in dollars". In addition, the author really needs to change his sloppy writing style. Footnotes were definitely abused, many of which are unnecessary. Many equations were unnecessarily written and numbered again and again. For example, Eq.(4) on p.276 is written and numbered again on p.277, and again on p.280.
