5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Another book which confirms my own. This book in general shows that the super-rich are (in general of course) evil, but it also shows that the U.S. Government is also very evil.
4-0 out of 5 stars The prize is capital gains.
Blattmair devised a scheme where he would use a charitable trust for MS Bill Gates as a way to avoid paying $56 million in capital gains taxes for $200 million in stock profits.Charitable Trust provided a shelter from taxes for stocks or buildings that appreciated in asset. The asset is transferred to the charitable trust and the charitable trust sells the asset tax-free and invests the proceedings. The trust gives the donating individual a lifetime income typically 6% a year. However, Blattmair plan was to take back 80% per year for two years and Gates would pocket $192 million without paying taxes and the charity would fold, but not before 92% of the funds had been converted into cash. The government would collect nothing.Instead, Bill Gates could claim a tax deduction of $2 million. It became questionable whether the IRS reviewed or challenged the tax shelter devise or even if the device was used. The only fact known is that at one time it existed and provided a shelter against the capital gains tax. The capital gain is the source of of all the income of the super rich. Capital gains tax fell from 28% rate in 1987 to 15% in 2003.
3-0 out of 5 stars interesting, very needed yet a little over the top
This book was incredibly interesting and probably the most useful piece of investigative journalism I have seen on this topic. The tax code is rediculously complex and this book shows how that complexity is exploited by the rich and their friends.

4-0 out of 5 stars Focused on deal making
Do not buy this book if you are looking for an intro to the basics of 1031 exchanges. It is not a "how-to" book. You should buy this book if you want ideas and examples of how to use exchanging in non-standard ways to make deals happen. If you want to expand your thinking on what is flexible when you start talking terms on a deal then this is a good book for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good starting point for investors exploring 1031 Exchanges.
This book offers a basic introduction to tax-deferred exchanges in a simple format. Readers could benefit from more relevant examples; for example focusing far less on barter-for-property and more on resources and likely issues with a delayed exchange.
1-0 out of 5 stars exchange this book for a good one

5-0 out of 5 stars A book you must buy!
I recommend this book to individuals who run a small business or plan to start a small business.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Overview Book
Taxes related to a small business are complex and even a little bewildering if you haven't gotten into them before. But as this book says, they're not rocket science difficult.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Role of Taxes over the Centuries
This book is a "must read" for those who want to understand how taxes have altered the rise and fall of civilizations over the centuries. The author makes the complexites of taxes and economic policies understandable and how they affect modern civilization.

4-0 out of 5 stars Provides a broad overview of taxation in various societies over the centuries
This is a very interesting book that will probably give you a better understanding of the ways in which taxation has been used in the past.As in our time, the purposes have been to raise revenue for the government, but they were also used for other purposes. They were used to keep a given people in servitude to another, to shape social policy, to control markets, and so on. 5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for every citizen
It's unfortunate that so many American citizens are guilty of imposing willful ignorance upon themselves, otherwise our political leaders would be subject to a tighter leash.Charles Adams wrote this most informative book in the early 1990's and it has resonated with me ever since. He covers the history of taxation from the time of the first recording of history.Indeed the Rosetta stone was a tax document, and like the rest of the book it's a follow-the-money theory of history.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Minister Taxation is a whole differentballgame
Aknowledged as one of the more difficult areas of personal taxation, this clearly stated guide offers very relevant information and advice. I found the book so useful since purchasing it two years ago, that I have purchased the latest version.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK as a reference dictionary
The book is useful as a reference dictionary of accounting and tax related terminology.I was expecting instead a listing of deductions as implied by the title.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Layman's Tax Book
No tax code just no non-sense explainations of what is and is not deductible. I am a tax preparer and I give these to all of my small business clients

5-0 out of 5 stars Great addition to your library of books on biz deductions
This is a great book for starters. It shows each deduction with explanation. I still use it as a reference before calling my accountant. There is not much surprises as far as new deductions but this books is a great addition to your reference library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative
I had to read this book for a political science class I was taking over the summer, and I am glad the professor chose this book because I learned a lot about the estate/death tax. This book puts everything into prospective, and explains the pros and cons of the tax. If your interested on how the estate tax works and why we need it read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Original Indigenous Economy has truths to help us grow.
This review is excellent but I believe that those of us who live in Turtle Island will develop unified systematic responses only when we begin to honour the heritage of First Nations. The common wealth of First Nations was brought about through inclusive and comprehensive accounting practices, which valorized the contributions of all community members. This primary accounting including women's and social work took place in the Production Societies of each community. This accounting unified ownership for all members of the Production Societies.Wampum and other string currencies were issued across the 36 Confederacies of Turtle Island.People not only voted with their Wampum but spent it as currency as well.Ownership was progressive from the early status of an apprentice to the weighted Wampum 'share' holdings of the elder. What is missing in our capitalist and socialist worlds is their unity. Both systems hold part of the puzzle. Both developed as institutional fragments of a once integrated whole. The wonderful thing being that First Nations still hold many clues to understand this ancient system from aroung the world. You can imagine the difference between a whole culture of economic justice and merely a complaint department in a crooked department store. While Gates and Collins book is essential, it is through cultural indigenous economic design that we gain the involvement to make a difference.Western authors tend to keep us in critical analysis but still divided.Douglas Jack, eco-montreal@mcgill.ca (514) 695-3845
